Hello and welcome to the DSR Daily.

Riley Fessler thinks it's like a five day weekend. What do you feel about that? How

do you feel about your colleague out there living it up? Well, you've got to put your

nose to the grind stuff. I think he has a better understanding of how to celebrate the

fourth of July than I do. Well, you probably were down on the mall hiding from the lightning boats or did you celebrate the fourth of July? I did and I celebrated with my friends and we did what I think is the most American thing that you can do to celebrate America's 250th birthday, which was watch through some immigrants out of the country. No, it was, you watched something that was happening down the street on TV. We watched the fireworks on my TV. On this

so you sat in your house instead of walking down the street. I don't blame you. I don't want to be part of it, but I wanted to, you know, it was a spectacle. I wanted to see the spectacle so we threw on C-SPAN and my artworks there. If somebody had told me that a lightning boat would actually hit the

never mind, why don't we go into our story? It's because there's really so much news from this

weekend. You know, you might think, uh, slow summer weekend, but it's not a slow summer weekend, because a lot of stuff's going on. In fact, this week there's a NATO summit, there's the world cup,

everything, Trump touches, turns to shit. There's lots to talk about, right?

And we're going to cover every single one of the topics. Okay. But we're going to start with what we have started talking about, a little recap of the Fourth of July. Trump announced yesterday that he personally overruled recommendations from White House and event officials to cancel the Fourth of July salute to America celebration after severe storms and extreme heat forced a chaotic evacuation of the national mall. Although the weather and intense national special security events screening

delayed the programming by over three hours, Trump insisted on moving forward, eventually taking stage at 11 p.m. to a rescreen crowd that was less than half its original size. Which was small to begin with. Let's be honest. It was not. Trump said it was 150,000 people. You know, it may have been 150 p.m. it was, it was a small crowd. Anyway, sorry. Despite the logistical challenges, crowd confusion, and nearly 100 heat-related medical incidents,

administration and security officials maintain that their longstanding emergency contingency and sheltering plans were executed successfully. What a guy. You know, it's all about you, Mr. President. It's not the 250th birthday of the United States. It's not the July 4th holiday weekend. It's not the well-being of the people who showed up on the mall in the rain, in the lightning. Who, by the way, Mr. President, were only your supporters, because nobody, with half of rain,

or half a sense of values, would show up to participate in your ridiculous display of self-reference, and yet, who do you put it risk? Well, as you put it risk when you get rid of rural hospitals, as you put it risk when you get rid of education programs for those with special needs. As you put it risk when you cut back on health care, as you put it risk when you start wars that make gas prices go up, or tariff wars that start farm sales. It's your own supporters.

Nobody has ever gotten screwed as badly as mega-world, and they are slowly starting to get it.

Which I think is possibly the only speed they work at, but they are slowly starting to get it.

It was a shit show of the first order. There are pictures of lightning bolts hitting things down to have,

but here's an interesting thing, you know, the president decided to make it all about a speech, which he delivered it midnight, by the way, the fireworks started on July 5th. He didn't even get to the mental life for it, but tell me, what are you having the newest bit of speech? Nothing, because it was a snooze vest, and even the parts that were cool or interesting, like having 170-year-old veterans come out on stage and see the flags from the battles that they were in, which I did think was touching.

He made it all about himself, so you couldn't even be excited about that, bec...

okay, well, this isn't even honorable or enjoyable to watch, even in the slightest. He couldn't even make

a special moment about somebody all had to up. How many veterans were there? Like you just said, it's made of steel, but you just said it sounded like you said there were 170-year-old veterans. No, no, there was like five veterans right, and one was 170-7, and one was 104.

Oh, I say, I bet 170-year-old could kick Trump's ass, but here's the thing. The speech was just

garbage. It was full of accrimations against, it was just standard Trump, and the interesting thing was that this was the high point of the 250th birthday celebration of the United States of America, and if anything, captured, what it means to be in the United States right now with this man, as president, it was this act of vain disregard for the well-being of the American people. Well, moving on to our upcoming NATO summit, Kiev came under a deadly Russian ballistic missile

and drone attack early this morning, killing at least seven people and trapping residents in burning,

high-rise buildings on the eve of a critical NATO summit in Turkey. The assault follows a devastating

strike last Thursday that killed 30 people, highlighting Ukraine's increasing struggle to

intercept Russia's new jet-powered drones without additional western aid. In response to the

escalation, Ukrainian President Vladimir Hzolensky renewed his urgently to US and European allies for patriot air defense missiles, all US President Trump, who is attending the summit, continues to seek a peace path following separate weekend phone calls with Bolshellensky and Russian President Putin. Yeah, this is the longest 24 hours in foreign policy history, because I know he said he was going to solve this in 24 hours, and now we're sort of a year and a half into this presidency,

hasn't done it. But we also know, he's essentially supporting the Russians, and there were a number of reports over the weekend emphasizing this, the non-provision of the aid that they need withdrawal of other kinds of support for Ukraine, the undercutting of NATO, and the argument, which is essentially the Russian argument that, you know, NATO, the Ukraine should go to the negotiating table on Russian terms. Meanwhile, Ukraine, despite the pullback of the United States,

with the support of some key Europeans, but primarily driven by their own incredible resourcefulness

and courage, is making gains against the Russians over 2 million Russians have died in this war. There, you can't get gasoline in parts of Russia right now. The countries in dire, dire, straits. The reason Trump is pushing again. The reason Putin is pushing, is Ukraine is winning. This NATO summit is not going to be fun for Donald Trump. It's not going to be fun for a few reasons.

One, none of these people actually like Trump, and frankly, the essential, you know,

sort of characterization of the NATO summit would be if you sort of saw a room with Trump, blathering on and on, all the other people in the room looking at their watches going, how long till he's gone? Because they're just marking time until Trump is gone. But this is going to be a little worse than that. One of the reasons is, of course, Trump's pro-Russian view and Ukraine. Another, and there were stories over the weekend about this,

is that Trump and those closest to Trump really do want to blow up NATO. And apparently, Pete Heggseth put forth a plan to really pull all the U.S. troops out of Europe, because he knew that that would meet with Trump's approval. And others in the administration in the military, you know, killed it. There are several reasons. They killed it. One of which is it's a horrible idea. Another is, it's against the law. Congress actually passed the law

that said Trump can't, you know, laterally pull out a NATO, because they were so afraid to do it. But Trump will do whatever he can to damage the relationship, and he will do it in very Trumpian ways. And I will leave you with this. Did you see his true social post about Prime Minister Maloney of Italy? Well, you know, he had a problem with Prime Minister Maloney of Italy. And he said, she just wanted to be in a picture with him, and then she came out and said,

He was lying, and he was saying, he hates to be gone like, well, he made a li...

in true social that he may have to get a restraining order against Maloney to keep her away from him,

like she's a fan girl who just wants to be near him. I don't know if I'd piss her off that way. You see, it seems to me fully capable of expressing yourself and turning this into something that's bad news for Trump. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump goes to this summit, leaves early. I certainly would be unsurprised if the outcomes of this summit are good for Trump. They are likely to be all about a NATO that is less US-centric, more independent,

because that's, you know, that's the NATO that Donald Trump is making, and that's the NATO,

by the way, that Vladimir Putin has wanted all along. So Putin may lose in Ukraine, but he may win with

NATO, and he may not mind that trade-offs so much. What else he got?

Florida, Republican congressman. Florida, you're all, you're all state. We should get like, is there a Florida and, you know, like, anthem that we should play? No, but ever, now there's no. Like, even if there is, we should not be playing it. Some, like, Jimmy Buffet, welcome to Margaritaville. So yeah, we can, Margaritaville is fine. That's okay. We can do that. All right. So here we are. If there's a Florida story, I have to cover it. Florida,

Republican congressman, Carlos, Gamena, is broke with the Trump administration on Sunday urging the

White House to reconsider its push to end temporary protective status for roughly 350,000 Haitian migrants,

and are going that deporting them to a quote unquote fail. The state would be a grave error.

Maybe maybe better for them than staying in a failed state here, but let's get to you. Hey, it's David, and I hate to interrupt the podcast, but I want to tell you some exciting news. Representing a Miami-Dade County district with a large Haitian ancestry population, Jimenez also advocated for reinstating temporary protected statuses for Venezuela's following

a devastating recent earthquake. His pushback aligns with other prominent Republicans, including Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, and New York Congressman Mike Lara, who warned that immediately ending the program with devastating local work forces, particularly in manufacturing and health care, and plunged the U.S. into an economic crisis. Yeah, it's a terrible idea. It's an inhumane idea. You may not know this, but once upon a time, before you were born, I can't believe I'm saying

these words. But the United States actually invaded Haiti, because a dictator had left, and there was fighting in the US sense of troops in. And I went to a meeting, I was in the government,

This is the 90s.

doing in the troops leave? And all these different agencies said, "We could talk about this,

we could talk about that." And so I raised my hand, and I said, "Why don't we coordinate

all of our activities for Haitian recovery?" Like two days later, I get a phone call from the Secretary of Commerce, the time was acting under Secretary of Commerce, and the Secretary was like, "What is this?" And I was like, "I don't know what are you talking about?" I said, "I'm reading here in the Washington Post. The White House is just appointed you Haiti Economic Coordinator, or Haiti Recovery Zarr." That was an Haiti Recovery Zone. And I was like, "Well, I don't know." And indeed,

what had happened was I brought it up at the meeting. The White House decided it was a good idea. They created the program. They decided I would be the main coordinator, and no one had ever called me, this is how the US government works. So I would go to Haiti, but I would also go to the Haitian people who are lovely and people, the conditions of the country are pretty awful. The United States intervention was pretty awful. We intervened on behalf of a guy,

President Aristide, who was pretty bad guy, actually. But I went to a lot of events about Haiti. And for example, a lot of them were in date counting, where there's this gigantic Haitian population. Wonderful people, wonderful citizens of date counting, deeply engaged. And that's true and in

Ohio, it's true in New York, it's true throughout the country. And the problem is that in the midst of

their pervasive racism, Trump and Stephen Miller, they can't see this. They've missed the key thing

about immigrants, which is we have welcomed immigrants to the United States because they make America stronger, because they contribute to our society, because they work hard, because they become Americans, because that's the American story. And he's tried to undo this with little exceptions for, you know, white South Africans, because Peter, T.L. and Elon Musk said there's genocide against white South Africans, which is laughable. Because he thinks only white people should be coming to the

United States. And you know, a guarantee is there was same situation with an island full of white people in the Caribbean. Trump wouldn't embrace it. Well, one more, a fourth of July,

related story for today. U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Bergam defended the federal decision to

allow a white supremacist group, Patriot Front, to march through Washington on Independence Day, stating that their rally was protected by free speech laws, despite their controversial anti-immigrant ideology. During his television appearance, Bergam downplayed the march as an Arboration during the country's 250th anniversary. And instead, focused on the Trump administration's ongoing efforts to renovate and secure the nation's capital. Additionally, Bergam repeatedly

repeated unsubstantial claims by President Trump that Vandals used boxcutters to damage a newly

completed $14.7 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, defending the decision

to award the repair work to the same contractor. Bergam is such a tool. The fact that he was successful in business, but I just I don't understand. It's, you know, is one of those people is like signed onto the Trump train just because it's making him money. And he doesn't care about literally anything else in the world other than money. You know, he's right. The first amendment does allow those people the right to protest. At the same time, they're not allowing protesters

in Lafayette Park. They're not allowing protesters by the reflecting pool. They're not even allowing people to linger by the reflecting pool. They arrested a Air Force officer for saying the president should be impeached and they dragged them away. They have not allowed people in the country because of things they've expressed on social media. They have campaign conducted by their FCC chairman to kick people off the air for saying things that they don't like. No administration

in modern history. And in fact, I would amend that. No administration in American history has

Undertaken a more concerted or devastating campaign against the first amendme...

The only time they think the first amendment protects anybody is if they are pro-Trump. And in

the case of this group of small brain racists, that's the kind of they feel that's Trump's

base. And so they allow these people within flammatory chance and flags to march all through DC and to debase the ceremonies. They feel that the January 6 riot was an expression of free speech. Free speech in their view is pro-magous speech. An anti-magous speech is a threat to national security. That's a fascist operation. And you know that because these guys are fascists and it's

how they're operating. Well, we have one more story for today. We're going to talk about something

that we actually haven't talked about on this podcast yet, but that has been going on for quite

some time. And that is the World Cup. And an unprecedented move of FIFA utilized article 27 of

its disciplinary code. Does a spend-striker, fuller-in, ballagons, automatic red card ban. Clearing him to play in the United States World Cup last 16 match against Belgium. The decision followed a personal phone call from President Trump to the FIFA President urging a review of the spending off a move Trump later celebrated on social media. While the U.S. coach welcomed the decision as fair, the Royal Belgian Football Association expressed astonishment arguing the ruling

directly contradicts tournament regulations, mandating automatic match suspensions for red cards. Everything Trump touched, touches, turns to shit, is slime to the World Cup. The World Cup has been incredibly moving. I for one have watched almost every match, almost beginning to end, at least added on in the background. I've loved it. I've been incredibly moved, moved by Cabo Verde almost beating Argentina over the weekend, moved by, you know, great comebacks and dramatic

stories and so forth. It's been beautiful until Trump gets involved. And now no matter what happens with this, the U.S. team is tainted because if they win and this guy played, they will cheat it. If they don't let this guy play, controversy will ensue. And by the way, the European football

Federation, which is the most powerful regional one, has spoken out against this recently said this

should be reviewed and FIFA is saying that maybe there's some appeal process and so forth. FIFA

is an incredibly corrupt organization. You'll remember they're the ones that gave Trump a FIFA,

a piece prize, but they've been corrupt for a long time before that. In fact, they're prior incredibly corrupt head of FIFA set bladder. Put a social media post at saying, "This cross is a red line." And if you are too corrupt for set bladder, you're off there and some kind of crazy mafia territory. But Trump's got this hot line into FIFA and he's done this thing and he's taken what has been this beautiful, fantastic, inspiring event and he's tainted it.

He's slimmed it. He's taken the slime out of the reflecting pool or the slime out of the big slime machine and the basement of the White House. And he's just applied some of that Trump slime, Trump plant branded slime to the World Cup. It's disgusting. Well, we'll see by tomorrow because that matches tonight, we're recording this on Monday, how this all turns out, we'll be here right here. We'll rightly be with this, Minna. He will be back tomorrow. Yeah, I don't care. We're doing fine with

that. You know, we'll be back here and we'll be doing all regular podcasts this week. So we'll talk about all this stuff more. For now, have a great week, everybody. Thank you, Minna. Bye, bye.
