Written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, Star and Will Ferrell, produced by Judd Appetail. Made a bunch of money. Everybody loved it. What a time to be alive. God damn, take it back seriously.

>> America really did used to be built on hot badass nasty speed. And we're not anymore. >> Eleanor knew what she was talking about. >> Eleanor knew what she was talking about. I guess we can start here when this movie came out.

Did you see it in theaters? Telled are you, and where did it kind of fall in the Will Ferrell ranking at the time? And now. >> I was 26, so I feel like I got to experience this the most. 'Cause it was, sorry, not 26.

I was 24 in 2006. Just I graduated college. And yeah, it was awesome. I feel like in that era, it was just every year or even like a couple times a year. They were coming out with these, get your butt to the freaking theaters and watch this because

it's gonna be the best thing you've ever seen, type movies every year.

And I'd say this is like that, near the height of Will Ferrell's powers, maybe not. >> That's an absolute height. >> It was right there. But yes, I remember just being so excited to go to theater, see these movies. It felt like every movie was simultaneously more ridiculous and had longer titles.

Like the subtitles of these movies are always just crazy.

>> The ballad of the body. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, I think Stepbrothers was gonna have the title, something about the Catalina line mix. So it was gonna be in it.

>> Oh my God. >> And they decided to pull it. >> Yeah. >> Well, the funny thing about these types of movies I feel like is you and I were like 12. Like I didn't see this in theaters, I'm assuming you didn't either, or did you?

>> I think I did see it in theaters, but I was not allowed to see anchor man in theaters. So I saw this movie before anchor man because I think there's a big difference between being nine and being 12 or 13 or whatever for Will Ferrell movie. This is the defining comedy of my childhood. >> This is number one.

>> This is the number one. It's the best comedy made in the 21st century, but it's my favorite. And probably it's the one I've seen the most. >> Funny. It's I was shocked at how quotable it was going back and rewatching it.

I've seen this movie live 20, 30 times because I didn't see this in a theater, but it was just a movie that was on all the time. I've had the DVD and you can just throw it on whenever. Every scene in this movie is funny.

Like I think there are some comedies where it dips and there's like 20 minutes where

it's like oh, they're building the character, there's an art coming or there's the action scene at the end of the movie, literally every scene of this movie is funny and has iconic quotes. Pretty remarkable. >> With haste's unbelievable, totally in this movie.

They literally just were like all right, you were talking with this like make movie shorter, but there's no filler, there's no backstory, they just are like kid, weird dad. He's a NASCAR, he's a driver and he has everything and it just absolutely rips and then

I was also amazed how many of the funny stuff is like the first 50 minutes and also the

back night is way funnier than I ever remember and that's like the hardest thing to do in a comedy, usually the last third is the least funny. I don't really feel like this movie drops off a whole lot. >> Not like pancakes. >> It's not what do you mean?

>> Not like all exciting at first but by the end you're fucking sick of them, and I will note like, so Hivenji, you said this is your favorite will for a movie? It is my favorite will for a movie. >> Is that a movie? >> Would you say that for you, Craig?

It's really hard. I know anchorman and stepbrothers are probably more beloved and more quoted overall, but

I think of comedies, I think of Will Farrell, but when I think of Will Farrell, I think

of Talladegnex. >> Yeah, I think when this movie came out, I think it's grown more now. I don't know if people, when you ask them name the best Will Farrell comedy, I don't know how many people say Talladegnex, I think they would say anchorman or stepbrothers or maybe old school.

He's like a side, yeah. >> But I would probably say to anchorman or stepbrothers, but I agree with you, this movie

Sticks with you, it's aged beautifully.

All of the jokes still play. The acting is great. The supporting cast is phenomenal. >> Oh my god, yeah.

>> Like the awards that all of the supporting cast is won over the years is like crazy.

>> When they pitch this movie, it's funny, there used to be a category on the rewatchemals and flex category that's not there anymore, called, what is the five-word pitch of this movie? McCay and Farrell actually did pitch this movie without a script on six words. The pitch was Will Farrell as a NASCAR driver, and Sony was like, they're like, sign up.

Come on, cut the check, this is from Farrell's agent, there was a great piece in the ringer written by Jake Krings Schreifels about an oral history of kind of like Will Farrell as a sports movie icon and Talladegnex, and from Will's agent, he said there was no movie, there was no script, there was nothing, and Sony Greenlit the movie, I don't know if anyone's ever done that in history.

>> Yeah. >> Is it like a ringer pot, equivalent of that? It's like Chris Ryan smoking cigarettes, ranking zero, yeah. >> So far, I'm in, what pitch would it have to be? Let's talk about Farrell and McCay, who kind of one of the all-time comedy duose, who, I

think in my head made more movies together than I thought, but it's really only four. >> I also was surprised going back. >> I want to say eight or ten. >> So it's what? Anchorman?

>> It's Anchorman one and two, so if you combine those, it's the Anchorman franchise, it's all-dega, stepbrothers and the other guys. Those are the only movies that McCay directed and Farrell acted in. McCay also did the story for the campaign and get hard, which start with Farrell, which are two movies I've not seen actually.

>> I think it's hard, I think it's hard, I think it's hard, I think it's hard. >> Yeah, hard, it's Kevin Hart, and the campaign is with Zach Alphanakis, right?

Never seen the campaign actually, I don't think it's a political satire, but McCay didn't

direct those. So it's really only four movies, it's Anchorman, Talladega, stepbrothers and the other guys. In the two of them, they were hired at SNL and the exact same day, they became great friends, they started Funny Your Die, which, I don't know if you're one of the first

videos I remember seeing growing up was the Pearl video, the landlord role, the landlord role, the landlord role, the landlord role, the landlord role, she saw me, which was McCay's daughter. >> Right, oh really? >> Yes. >> Oh my god.

>> Which was like one of the funniest, that was like the very beginning of the video. >> You need to settle down.

>> You need to settle down in that video.

>> The funny or die one, I always remember, is the Batman one, for Batman. It's Sleepy Time. Oh, yeah, P-Homes. >> In an order that would surprise you. >> Ass melt that.

>> And they started Gary Sanchez, their production company. So yeah, I don't know, they split up in the late 2010s, which is a lot of interesting history about why they split up.

It's been written about that it was basically McCay, wrote and created Winning Time, the

show about Jerry Buster Lakers, and Ferrell wanted to play a bus. >> Right, I've heard about it. >> McCay didn't want Ferrell and picked John C. Riley. >> Oh, shit, yeah. Which is crazy, and McCay has spoken about this in interviews and is like, yeah, I didn't

tell will, I should have, and I kind of like fucked up the whole thing, and I get why he's upset, and I get why he's upset. That's pretty crazy. >> Did they ever make up? >> I mean, I don't think they've really worked together, again, maybe they've been like

producers on things, but I don't really think so. >> Why don't you not want Will Ferrell is Jerry Buster, he's basically Ron Burgundy, but just older and wealthy, also like if you, like, some of the more people would have watched that, if Will Ferrell was playing Jerry Buster, you know? >> Yeah.

>> So, yeah, it never ends well, you know, you always, you have like a 10, 15-year stretch,

and then it, it's hard to keep these things going. In general with comedy, I feel like we can talk about Will Ferrell now. I think he's the most influential comedy figure of the 21st century, probably not a hot take.

I think he's also the last great American comedy star, probably comedy movie star?

>> I mean, that's kind of what I was saying. For like, if he's in a movie I'm going to it, that's why they were able to sell this movie without, like, with no script or whatever. >> Yes, for like, 10, 12 years, it was like whatever Will Ferrell's doing, I'm in. >> Yes.

>> Because since, since he kind of entered a different part of his career, no one's really taken the mantle. It was like, Melissa McCarthy in the 2010s, I think, had a couple of big movies, obviously Bridesmaids, and like, Spide, he, what about Seth Rogan? >> Yeah, I always felt like Seth Rogan himself was not the, like, the Will Ferrell style

draw. It was more about, like, the ensemble, the concept, like the Appetal Gang, what brought you in? When I was, like, 14, it was like, I, I want to go see Will Ferrell, he can do any character. Rogan is not really doing characters, like Will Ferrell.

>> Shameless pandering to you, hosting this episode. But Will Ferrell, actually, to me, is like the Steph Curry of comedy, and that he somehow has the highest 3 point percentage, even though he's also taking the most threes. He just made a lot of movies, and you're right, and there's like a way of the same way actually the Steph Curry misses, you kind of just forget about, and you'll, like, we literally

forgot about the campaign to get hard all those kind of get, like, it doesn't get punished for it.

It's kind of like the way his style is just actually making jokes, where it's...

many jokes that you end up with, like, gems, but that was kind of the style with just you just cranking out movies.

>> I, I don't know who, like, right now, you could say Tim Robinson's trying, I think he's

really funny, and I think he's kind of even trying to do the same character style of like the cocky idiot, the under qualified overconfident guy, you know, but his style is just more niche. >> Yeah, he also just doesn't have the commanding presence. Do you think this is maybe just like too simple, but Will Ferrell is huge, he's like

a big man, and also, I think he, like you can tell, he played sports, the way he moved, like he can pull off an athlete, he did so many sports movies, he can pull off an athlete, even though he's obviously not super athletic anymore, he can move like it, like he's done it before kind of deal, I don't know if anyone had sort of the actual physical gravitas that he had, maybe Vince Vaughan, who is I think one of it, like maybe one of

his rivals in terms of, like, biggest comedy stars that era, Ben Stiller was quite a bit smaller. >> But still, it is a comedy, too. >> Yeah, I do think athleticism and, like, frame body control is like one of the more underrated parts of being good at comedy, you look at guys like Balushi and candy and

all these guys who you look at them and you wouldn't think anything of them, but they're also, they're, like, secretly very athletic and coordinated dudes. >> Even the big guys have the, like, the Trent Williams athleticism, where, so you would know what their shuttle time is, great footwork, and it matters, even Jim Carrey, like, they all know how to move their body because comedy is half physical.

>> Dude, then I was reading about Will Ferrell was, like, closely connected to USC during the P Carol era. >> Yeah. >> And he, like, went to one of their practices one time and put on, you know, like, full, full, like, pads and how and everything was, like, running routes, they're like, who the fuck is this guy? And then he took it and said, "Oh my God, it's Will Ferrell."

>> That's the other thing that Will Ferrell is, like, the ubiquity is, it's almost hard

to explain now how much he was always put in a movie, but he's always doing weird stuff.

He was an usher at a Laker's game, and he was doing stuff like that. I forgot to write that Jake Carrey article on the ringer that he did the, I want to play nine positions at a baseball game, or 10, I guess, technically. >> All right. >> And then I was like, I forgot that he went to 10 different, or five different teams

to play, because he was like, only going to do two positions, but he's always doing some kind of viral stunt. >> Yeah. >> So he was just always around doing stuff. >> And it never feels forced with him, like, it's all of the game stuff.

You know, there's kind of, like, the Bill Murray lore, it's like, Bill Murray showed up at my dinner party in blah, blah, blah, blah. Ferrell's the same way, but it doesn't feel performative, he truly just does it because he thinks it's funny. He'll just show up and do that, yeah, the Lakers game where he dresses as a security guard,

what he's like, not trying to go viral, I feel like he just, he just, he just loves jokes. >> Yeah. >> It's a good bit. >> Yeah. He talked about Will Ferrell Planksports, though.

He might be the comedy sports star ever. I mean, he rattles off kicking and screaming, Talladeganites, blades of glory, and semi-pro, in four years, and it's kind of like, after die hard, when they just started ripping off die hards, and it was like, die hard on a boat, under siege. It was kind of like, Will Ferrell Planksports.

>> What? >> Will Ferrell Planksports. >> Can you just get away with that for five years? >> I mean, after they did NASCAR, which is, they were like, trying to be careful not to be making fun of it, but NASCAR is very like, has a spot in an American culture.

And then they're like, what, how could we top that so we're going to do figure skating?

Like, what, I mean, what would be like the next sport that you'd want to see him do? That's even like more ridiculous than this. >> I was looking at his IMDB and his upcoming projects, it says, and this was part of the

interview on the on the ringer piece that, they've like bounced around, they basically

gone through every sport, and they're like, what would be the funniest? Yeah. It says he has an upcoming e-sports comedy in the works. >> Okay. >> But then the log line is like exactly what you think, it's like, Will Ferrell Planks

video games. >> It's like, washed up, it's former athlete thinks he can get back into the game with e-sports. It's like every other story. >> Yeah.

>> But sure I'm in. >> What is doing golf right now? >> He's doing the hawk on Netflix. I do want to read. I just want to read Ferrell's run from O1 to 2010, and just how unassailable and ridiculous

it is, and we'll probably never see this again in comedy.

This is what he does. Some of these are supporting roles and some of these are lead, but still it's worth mentioning all of them. From 2001 to 2010, he goes, Zulander, Old School, Elf, Anchorman, Starsky and Hutch, kicking and screaming, wedding crashes, Talladeganites, blades of glory, semi-pro, step

brothers, and the other guys. >> All of those are actually incredible and still funny. >> I would say five of those among the most iconic comedies ever made, at least for the 20th or century, or people in our generation.

>> I think it's craziest about that list is the fifth funniest movie on that list is probably

the other guys, which has some of the best jokes I've ever seen in any movie I've ever underrated. >> It has to be the most underrated Ferrell movie. I don't know if people were just like getting sick of it by then, but that movie, I just watched it the other week on a plane.

It was amazing. And in the movies, you mentioned that he is a minor character or extended cameo.

He is arguably the funniest person in that movie, and some of those, like the...

Zulander. >> Good toss in Austin Powers, too. He makes a brief. >> Yeah, and he's the guy who's like, I'm very mad, very madly, I'm glad you're here. Hold on.

I'm very madly. >> Very madly. >> Yeah, that's the thing. It's not only can he lead a movie and dominate it, he's a deal on waiters every time he shows up for time.

>> 100%. >> What's his name in wedding crushers, he's chas. >> What is the most part of wedding crushers, he's best part of he's bounded down. >> Yeah. >> When he's just basically just showed up and wanted to make the anyone ride last.

>> That's the boy. >> The boy. >> And the boy. >> Welcome to Renee. >> I blew a shoe.

>> I said, no, let the boy, we're actually shaped. >> Also underrated, the names in all these movies, elite. >> I haven't written down. >> Maybe I'll just spent so much time. >> Ferrell and McCay, they know how to name a fucking movie character.

>> And like all these are just off the top of the head, you know it, Ricky Bobby, Ron Burgundy. >> Yeah. >> What do the elf, Frank the tank, chas Michael Michaels, you have Dale and Brennan and Jackie Moon. >> Yeah.

>> I am glad you brought that up because there are so many times where I neither know

I just never know the character's name and I just call them by the actor's name.

>> Yes. >> And they somehow will feral be really famous, but we call him Ricky Bobby. >> It's something, whenever we do watchables and I'm watching Bill Christian Sean, I'm always

so impressed at how well they're able to remember the character's names and they can

speak about them as the characters. I'm always like, oh yeah, when Goentith Poutro does this, yeah, yeah. But you don't have to do that with Will Ferrell movie. >> Frank the tank. >> Yeah.

>> Frank record. >> Yeah. >> It's perfect. >> Blue. >> Just everything.

>> Blue, blue. >> Also they just almost make yellowable names. >> Ricky. >> Yeah. >> Like it's Rick.

>> Rick. >> And he was supposed to break. >> Rick. >> This is the name. >> Rick.

>> So you should put on the category. We'll get to that later. I do want to talk about though.

This always happens with the comedy.

It's hard to sustain. >> Yeah. >> It just is. After the other guys in 2010, here are the next movie she did from 2010 to basically 2020.

So he does step rather than no way, he does the other guys in 2010. And then he goes on the office in 2011. >> All right. >> Remember that? >> He replaced the angel of Vickers.

>> Totally. >> Remember that about that. >> Which I loved the office. I never loved seeing Will Ferrell though. >> I really want to be out there.

>> I like Robert California more than most people. I didn't like the office to be honest. >> It was a class that gets like every time they do it when Charlie Sheen Leafs two and a half minutes like to send the show. But he does the office in 2011.

He was 44 years old. And then he does the campaign. He does anchor man 2. Get hard. Daddy's home.

Zoolander 2. The house. Daddy's home 2. And homes in Watson in 2018. Which was officially, I remember when that came out.

And I was like, oh wow. Ferrell and Riley are back. >> Yeah. >> It didn't work. And I remember thinking if they just didn't do British accents,

the movie might have worked. >> I remember in Texas taking out the whole movie. >> It was a great take. I'm like if they just didn't have the accents it probably would work. >> The list, you reading that list reminds me I just saw an interview with like 50

sent the other day where they're like, are you making new music?

And he's like, no, I got a lot of money. He's like, I thought able to make rap at any voice. Like what am I going to talk about doing the laundry and like filing my taxes? >> It's just hard to keep going. I think, you know, it was around his mid 40s when it started to taper off and really

when he got into his 50s. The list is very short of comedy movie stars in their 50s still crushing it. >> So he was 38 when he filmed this. I looked it up because I was like, I can't. I can't actually figure out how old he was.

>> He was an age list. >> He plays like a 20, he plays like someone a little bit younger I think in the movie.

But he's always kind of doing that.

>> I never, Ferrell always just seems like 40 to me. >> Yes. >> He has been, he turned out to be 40. >> He does have the Bill Murray thing. We're Bill Murray looked, he looked old young.

>> 40, 48 years old from the 30 to 60. >> Yes. >> Also, I always like that Ferrell like never cared about taking a shirt off. He was never super-insured, didn't care. I would always like poke fun at it.

He's huge, hairy, super tall. >> He has that weird, like, crease in his belly. >> He just doesn't get you. >> I don't know what, where that's coming from. >> Which is also a huge part of comedy just leading into it.

Ferrell's great just because I think he had the, in at least felt as though he was comfortable with other people being funny with him in movies. He didn't, he'd to overpower every movie. >> Yeah. >> He really surrounded himself with other people who were super funny.

He came having like a counterpart and most of the movies he did, whether it's like John C. Riley or, you know, the crew and anchor man, I kind of respect that it's like you said stuff.

It's like stuff was okay with having clay and I think Will was fine with like being

up at a playoff other. >> You need needs clay, like you need someone to actually reach that level. Actually, I mean, I think he needs a John C. Riley, totally. >> You can see it in all the bits too, like Craig said, he's not trying to overpower everyone.

He's like, as they're going through scenes, there's so many scenes in this movie. Where you can see them just on the verge of cracking up. >> Oh my God. >> Every time, like the nice and the leg scene, I mean, just, there's not how you get enough.

>> Oh my god. >> Put around the meat. >> Put around the meat. >> Put it in the hospital. >> Put around the meat.

>> Put around the meat. >> There's like nobody, I don't know why there's no helping.

>> Put around the meat.

>> Don't you put that knife in your leg? >> It really is a no skip movie. >> Yeah. >> Every single scene. >> I was trying to find the weak link.

And I was like, I can't. >> I don't have one. >> I don't think there's a scene you can cut, because like, if you could say, oh, maybe, like, you know, the grandma teaching the kids how to, but I'm like, that's great. All the Gary Colossus is great.

>> Can we do it a week or a week right now? >> No, no, just to your point though, about the fall off is, I, I, I, I rocked, we'll throw a went on the shop with, it was, it was LeBron and Maverick Carter and our co-worker here, Rich Paul. >> Right. >> And they were talking to Rich Paul and I call it.

>> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, same level. He literally just, it's like, Will Ferrell says, I don't make films. >> I make movies. >> Yeah. >> He's like, films are nuanced and planned.

And we kind of just show up and we're like, yeah, I want to rehearse. >> Ma, let's just go. >> Yeah.

>> And I think that over time you run out of ideas, and I think the perfect example of that,

is Anchorman too, which I think everyone wanted to be good. There's that stupid thing where they like, are in a lighthouse with a shark, the shark. And he's like pretending to be blind, but he can see. And like, that's just a talladega paralyzed scene.

And it's like, he just, he did 15 years of uninterrupted incredible ideas.

And then he kind of just did them again in the next movies. >> Yeah. >> I know, it's interesting. Like my brothers and learn their 20s. And one's 25, one's 28.

And the 25 year old, his relationship to Will Ferrell is not as strong as I thought. Like there are movies that could pull up. I'm like, oh, if you've seen talladega nights and he's like, oh, maybe. I don't know. And he's just so shocking to me that that I don't know.

We're just such a weird place now. I don't know what it's been. I mean, here and there, there are good movies popped up. Like, game nights great. That was in 2018 and books smarts good.

And I remember when Blockers came out at the end of the 2010s. >> John Cena. >> Yeah, we, and I, if have Blockers was okay, but we've been in such a weird spot. And no one's been able to replace Will Ferrell. And I think it's made me appreciate him even more.

And I think it's made this movie end this run.

Age even better because there's just, you, it almost seems unfathomable now that there could be a star that could be doing this. Where every year they're in a new movie and all of America's going to see it. >> That's what I want to ask you about. Who else could do this?

Like, is it Shane Gillis? Like, Shane Gillis, do this again? I think it Shane Gillis, although, I don't know why. I think what Ferrell is able to do is like, he can really play characters.

I know he's kind of always doing the same thing.

But Ferrell's ability on SNL. As somebody who could just, like, morph into anyone really works. I don't know if Gillis has that. Sometimes the stand-up becoming a huge movie star. It obviously works sometimes.

But I don't know if I can see anything. >> He plays himself in everything. >> Yeah. I think I think it would have to be him though. Like, even he's making a TV show right now.

And Netflix tires just really funny. But he's just basically being himself. >> Right. >> And I don't know if it's like, Shane Gillis is a ping pong player. Shane Gillis is a cook.

>> I kind of think people would go see that though. I kind of think it would work. >> Well, he's the most famous comedian in the world. And it would have to be him. I don't really know who else would be doing it.

Like I said, Tim Robinson, I think he's too niche. And outside of that, there's no crew. Like the Ferrell, McKay crew, still or no one will send in all of them. And then you move to Appetown, Seth Rogan, which became even more improv heavy. And it was just like, stoneers in a room improvising.

And then after that, once we got to, like, this is the end. Whatever. Just a painted, no group has replaced them. And now we're just in no mensland. >> I do think the Tim Robinson parallel with Ferrell though is, and maybe there's probably a bunch of examples of this. But in that era, in the 2000s, 2010s even,

we communicate, like, my friends and I communicated through movie quotes. Like we could do an entire conversation. It's just, just movie quotes from Will Ferrell. >> Yeah. >> Like all different, like anchor man was huge.

And I think Tim Robinson is kind of similar to that. So many Tim Robinson quotes. The memes, he is really, really memeable. And that's like become part of, you know, there's, I guess or whatever. Like we just talk a little bit.

I haven't even seen, I think, like, all of I think you should leave.

And I still quote scenes I haven't seen. >> I got to figure out how to make money on this. There's a more of a movie out that's supposed to be nuts. >> I'd like to agree. >> Right.

To that point, I actually think if you deleted all the Will Ferrell lines from my brain. I don't think I could have a conversation with my friends. I don't know how to communicate with other men without this without Will Ferrell. >> Yeah. >> It is weird.

>> Do we just become best friends? >> Yeah. >> Like memes are becoming bigger than the source material. You know? >> Yeah.

>> I have not seen that many episodes of I think you should leave. And yet I know like 50 quotes. >> Yeah. The hot dog, the 55 burgers 50, like all that stuff. You don't even have to have seen those episodes.

>> And you get it. >> I think you're here for the zip line. >> It's just so odd. Now that's where we are. It's like almost like now how they say how many followers you have is less relevant.

It's just like how many views the video gets. >> Yes. It's like in TikTok. It's like it doesn't even matter necessarily.

If you have a million followers or 10,000.

But you're right. You can get the quotes in the cultural water without actually having digested it.

>> Yes.

Like I think you should leave. I don't know how popular it is. I think it's relatively popular. Maybe more cult following. >> Yeah.

>> Like this memes are ginormous. And everybody knows the memes even though people may be didn't see the show. >> We're all trying to figure out who did this. >> Yeah. >> You know like the hot dog.

I haven't even seen that scene. I don't think I've seen the Ziplite there. >> Yeah. >> Oh my god. I've seen the 40 seconds.

I've seen the full thing. >> Yeah. Ronnie.

I think you're just here for the Zipline.

He's like what? And then it's like man. >> Like man. He's like he broke it. He's like shut up.

>> Anyway. >> Yeah. >> This movie is John C. Riley. Who. One of the best characters ever.

>> Yeah. >> Can do drama. Do comedy. Has worked with like PTA. Martin Scorsese.

And then just slipped in and became Will Ferrells. Number two. Kind of like Jeff Daniels with Jim Carrey. >> Yeah. >> And honestly, he's kind of like Cal Notting to Ricky Bobby in real life.

Will Ferrell. He's the number two. I mean basically. >> Clearly the real life thing. Like what you're saying about the winning time thing,

where John C. Riley gets to be Jerry Boston. Will Ferrell freaks out. That's literally the. Will of you win. >> Yeah.

>> How come I don't. >> And he's like. >> Yeah. >> He's like Adam McKay.

Like thought that through like I wanted to try this in real life.

And he's like a magic man. Now you see him. >> Now you don't. >> That's actually awesome. >> Yeah.

>> Yeah. >> And Riley got his shot. I mean after Talladega he gets. He gets walk art. Which I know you.

>> I really feel. >> I mean that. It didn't. >> Walk art is hilarious. >> It didn't.

It kind of pause all those music movies being made for like 10 years. The way Austin Powers changed James Bond. >> I never. Yeah.

I never had a strong relationship to walk art.

It didn't do very well. And I think it's why. John C. Riley didn't really get another like lead comedy roll shot. I think that was it. It didn't really work.

And then they kind of like he went back and did step rather. >> Just a little bit too much full frontal penis in walk art for people's taste. Maybe I don't know. I think it's a classic. I actually watched rewatch it like a month ago.

And it still holds up in my opinion. I'm cutting back. I'm cutting half pretty back. >> It's like the weed scene is great. >> The weed scene is good.

>> You don't want any of this shit. We'll still be expensive. >> It's the cheapest drug there is. The movie also has Sasha Baron Cohen, Jane Lynch, Gary Cole, Amy Adams, Michael Clark Duncan and Molly Shannon, elite supporting cast again.

No misses across the board. Check my prayer, David Keckner. It's just like everyone in it's great. The movie made $163 million. I'm a $72 million budget, not bad.

>> Yeah. >> But this was in the DVD era where it's like the budget. You can't look at the Wikipedia budget. That's probably half of what it actually did.

It made like 90 million in DVD sales.

And then I'm sure a ton more beyond that. It was the largest opening of Wolfrails career at the time.

I think it still might be the most profitable Adam and Kay movie.

No Roger Ebert review. But we will take a quick break. And then we'll get into most rewatchable scene where there's like 15. >> The whole movie. >> This episode is brought to you by Zipper Criter.

Here in the rewatchables we talk a lot about strange things or crazy things or committed things that actors did to prepare for a role. I think a recent one is the Odyssey Matt Damon who is my age, by the way, getting an absolutely crazy shape, gave up gluten, worked out every day, had to get, you know,

looking fit and buff and skinny for Odysseus. Because he was away for eight to ten years, committed to it. Now he's going to get a best actor nomination. When you're hiring,

Meet your match on Zipper Criter. On Zipper Criter. Today's most rewatchable scene is presented by Mazda. There's driving and then there's driving with peace of mind. Knowing you're behind the wheel of consumer reports is safest new car brand.

Mazda. But more on that later. Alright, most rewatchable scene. You guys know the drill, right? I'll go through all the scenes.

And then you pick your favorite one at the end. Sometimes people don't know. Sometimes people are like, that's, that's mine. Hold it. And then we'll get to it.

Alright. Um, opening title card not a scene, but Ellen a Roosevelt quote. Fucking sets the tone. Yeah. I know exactly what I'm getting into.

Honestly, that's the quickest tone, I've ever seen. I'm not going to really get the entire ethos of the movie with just a title card. Yeah. Um, three little vignettes to start the movie.

The, the, the birth in the car. The kid stealing the car in class. Alright, at the grocery store. And then Reese Bobby at career day is like, he's like, he's three tight little vignettes you get.

If you're, if you're not first your last.

Um, and then we get the Ricky as an adult.

I don't know what to do with my hands. And then he starts winning montage. Um, we get I piss excellence. [laughs] Cut, cut.

Car, I don't really need it. [laughs] Just put it. Just put it. Just put it.

Just put it. Just put it. Just put it. Just put it. Just put it.

Just put it. Cut, cut. I don't really know. I just love it. [laughs]

It's so good. [laughs]

Uh, that's just stuff that like, you just,

that's not in the script. I just love that. [laughs] [laughs] Car in real nice.

You get the Ricky Bobby's got two first names.

[laughs] The owner, the denits. Yeah. I want you to, what's the football comp there? What's the NFL owner comp with the owner of denit

and then the son taking over? And he's got to be Jerry and Steven Jones. Is that? Yeah, he might be right. But then who is Ricky Bobby to Steve Jones?

[laughs] Who do you got? Good question. Romo's the layup, but I mean. Do we have, is there an al Davis market?

Oh, there we are. That's pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. Microwave, John Gritton.

[laughs] It's not bad. Um, we have the dinner scene. Yeah. Where we, we meet Walker in Texas Ranger.

My beautiful star as we call him. [laughs] [laughs] Uh, I don't know. There's a,

the, "Suppers been ready for hours.

I've been sleeping over this for hours."

[laughs] Well, that's perfect. They're lower, baby Jesus. Leslie Bibb is great. Yeah.

Um, I love the way he's talking to you, Chip. You brought this on yourself, Chip? That's what happened. When I see Kai speak up to Hippus. I said, I know.

I'm going to love the way he's talking to you. I have it. You brought the heat. She said, "I have a lumpy butt." And then I said, "Fuck you."

And she yelled at me and I pissed him up. That's what he pissed me. Thanks. There's so many, this scene is one of the more iconic moments of the movie. Frank, you're Lord, baby Jesus.

Eight pounds, six ounces. Newborn infant Jesus. Don't even know where he is yet. [laughs] [laughs]

I like to think of Jesus in a Tuxedo t-shirt. Hey, count, why don't you shut the hell up? Yes, ma'am. [laughs] That, that relationship's great.

Uh, I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew. I'm coming out you like a spider monkey. It's, there's just a remarkable amount of quotes in this book. I threw grandpa's warm metals off the bridge. Sounds like a good day.

[laughs] Dude, you know that the meat of like, I'll put it in the Louvre. Yeah. Literally this scene made Apeshita thing. Oh, I like Apeshita.

On the way, shit on your ass. You know what happens a few years later? JZ makes a song with Beyonce called Apeshita. And then you film the music video in the fucking Louvre with the Mona Lisa.

You think, saying Apeshita in this movie inspired JZ?

Yeah, I mean, think about, uh, watch the throne. Literally starts by clipping blades of glory. Yeah. One song only. Like, as the known as the beat is provocative.

That was a chef's Apeshita, JZ crying his song. And then we're starting with a Will Ferrell movie. And then two years later, they make a song called Apeshita. Is that a half-ass internet researcher? Is that just your opinion?

Like, did you strong of a movie? Strong theory. I do not think that Beyonce and JZ make a song called Apeshita without this movie. And they literally film the shut down the Louvre at night to film there. Hi, if it's invented the piano key neck tie.

I did. Um, I don't think that's true, but I like to think. I like to think it's true. He has really good happiness. I'll ask Rich to ask JZ.

And then maybe we can get an answer. Honestly, we might be closer to him than we think. Great. The degrees of separation aren't that many. Um, many scene.

I love Ricky Bobby winning the race in reverse. Which would just be like the biggest story of all that. I don't know. I don't know. That was just fucking cool.

Do they go that fast backwards? I was wondering that. I want to step up the Vincent Shea. Can they go as fast backwards as they can go forwards? Just like I don't know.

I don't want to step up the Vincent Shea so they could at the job. But all the other race car drivers in this movie suck. Oh, what? You get it. Really?

I mean, imagine losing new guys going backwards. I'm just saying. Sus here. Apeshita was invented in the 1950s. But I think he saw that.

What the fuck did you Google it? What are you talking about? I was curious. You think it inspired Jason? You were alive.

Did any of you think it was like 90s? It was like 90s. Absolutely. Yeah. I feel like it exploded after this movie.

It's like I never heard it.

This says no gas powered cars cannot drive as fast in reverse. Although. No one gear.

I think the electric cars have the physical capability to do so.

Oh wow. Eat that. You'll fucking chance. Okay. I like that many scenes.

Then we get the bar scene where we meet John Girard. Right. I love them when the music's playing. And what's his name's like. Oh, no.

He's like that's brains about it. What? Making him short circuit. Keep it out for profile. Jazz.

Oh. Oh. Uh, John. We meet John. He breaks Ricky's arm.

We get the, the crepes. Really thin pancakes. Him drinking the beer sideways. What is like? You are disrespecting me.

Don't, don't, don't do it.

These colors don't run. I don't hold mess of craps this morning. Oh, oh, man. That's another quote that we used to say. I don't hold mess. I'll praise this morning. Why is it? Very thin bank. This could come because they're compromised. No. He compromises immediately. I feel like John was reasonable in that scene. Super reasonable. He really breaks his arm. He gave him a compromise. I did really compound fracture. I mean, he just if he had just said really thin bank eggs at what have it but then we have the montage of John winning.

We have Ricky's crash. Yeah. And then we have the hospital scene, which I feel like is the next kind of keystone scene of this movie where we have. I hope you both have sons. Can't some beautiful art. Articulate. Articulate. And they have to let them away from them.

I can't believe he chose that word. Yeah. You know, it's improvised too. How many times have you? I feel like for me it's 10,000. I'm like, don't you put that evil on me? Oh my god. Yeah, it's one of them. I taught five quotes from the movie I would say.

Even the brief scene where he's in the wheelchair playing basketball and he's kicking people. I think he gets up and takes the ball.

Like random line that stays with you. Like the first time you watch it, it's like, you know, first or last.

But the line that I actually cackle every time. He's like cows like psychosomatic. So you mean he can start a fire with his thoughts. He's like, no, it's just on his head. Yeah. You get the using the second knife to pry out the first knife. Cut it round. Maybe one of the funnier things. The second knife makes what it goes to like the squish. When he like bangs the second knife in, we're like a hammer.

It's crazy. I think I had to watch that 70 times until I realized that they're in awe. It's really good. I'm paralyzed. You are not paralyzed. Don't you think that knife in your leg?

Oh. Like he does the noise it makes. It tears for a minute. Like a squelch noise. So then we have kind of Ricky's fall. And then we have the wife swap scene or like the family swap scene. Oh, God.

He's like kissing his like this locker and Texas Ranger on the head as he comes there playing a game together. That's like me coming home week eight after Luther Bern is officially a flop. And Liz is just with hyphids. And I'm like, what's going on? She's like sorry Kristen Watson was a better person. I was gone for three hours.

Luther Bern was hurt for one game. Ricky, your marriage was a hollow shell. He's like, what? His whole house. They're playing Jinga.

Everybody got his arms around the kid. Dude, she's like, this marriage has been over a long time.

He's like, no, I honestly did not know that.

It did not know that. You're wrecking my life. We get magic, man. You see me. Now you don't.

Many scene that I love is when cow calls Ricky at night, from Ricky's old house. So great. And he's like, when you have the stereo turned on and TV, how do you handle the volume?

And he's like, why do you want to listen to the stereo? And TV. Because I like to party. So he's like, obviously. Why am I talking to you, man?

It's okay. Monch is like, all right. I'll call you tomorrow. All right.

I feel like I've never been noticed until like this time.

Is these, I think your house is haunted. He's not haunted. Isn't he? Yeah. It's not haunted.

Isn't he? But that kind of been like a whole part of the movie. Yes, seriously. Probably was. That I do always watch these appetite movies.

And I'm like, man, they're actually somehow three amazing. They have three hours of being in your role that they just do. Yeah. I mean, like, there was like an increment.

They had enough for a second movie. Right. All these movies.

I feel like the first cuts are super long.

Anchorman, I'm convinced that it was supposed to end with the bear smelling the menstruation, which they had like literally set up perfectly. But then the bear almost killed somebody. And they were like, we're done. I can't do that anymore.

That was jelly. The bear. Um, three more Applebees. Hmm. And you get the kind of the first or last realization, which is,

which is sad, which actually hits when Reese is on the street.

He's like, hey, Rick, guys, how are you going to set that?

How do you be second, third, fourth, even fifth? He beat me fifth. He kind of hits. I like how the dad just gets it. She anytime.

It's like even close to harmony in the family. I got to start fighting. I got to start being mean to somebody. I thought I feel like my family's playing the board game and everything's going fine. Like, I'd rather this work.

Yeah, he's just like, you know what, fuck it. You guys are cheating. And then it's like, no, we're not. And then it's in a fight. He's Reese literally the most outlandish character I've ever seen.

But then he just has that one line. I was like, I don't know what bone people have to make some act right. But I wasn't born with it. I'm like, that actually is a ugly cutting. That's a thing.

That's a thing.

Apologies, I missed a scene.

One of the best. The other of the pantheon scenes is the cougar. Reese Bobby getting Rick down. Where'd you get a cougar? I trapped it.

We'll feed it. We'll feed it. We'll feed it. We'll feed it. Comps are coming.

There's a kilo of Colombian band bands in the car. What do you mean? Time to be a man. Harry, on your page. Is there what?

I love real simple son. Harry Cole is great. Okay. We have the Amy Adam speech. Okay.

Which I have to imagine would be Harrison Bucker's favorite speech or woman could ever get in a film. It includes, it includes the lines. I'll read it for you. Harrison Bucker would love this. You need to rev your engine.

You need to fire it up and you need to grab a hold of that line between speed and chaos.

And you need to wrestle it to the ground like a demon cobra. And then when the fear rises up in your belly, you use it. And you know that the fear is powerful because it's been there for billions of years. And it is good. And you use it.

And you ride it. You ride it like a skeleton horse in the gates of hell. And then you win Ricky you win. And you don't win for anyone else. You win for you.

And you know why? Because a man takes what he wants. He takes it all. And you're a man. Aren't you Ricky?

Aren't you? Ricky Bobby is not a thinker. He said you're a driver. Yeah. Bucker's just isn't.

I've never talked about this.

Flex category. The Harrison Bucker word for. Speeds out. Yeah. Speeds that would make Harrison Bucker sit.

Um, kind of an amazing moment. Amy Adams just comes out of nowhere. She. I didn't realize now that like she wasn't really famous when this movie came out. Is that right?

No, because I'm like, why is she in this movie? It's an incredibly small role. She did catch me if you can. She was like the breeze love interest three years before that. And then she did a movie called June bug that she that she wrapped on.

When she booked Talladega nights. So she she ended up getting an Oscar nomination for June bug. But she that all happened while Talladega nights was happening. So I'm not saying she wouldn't have taken the role. At she had been an Oscar nominated actress.

But it was like right as Amy Adams was about to take off. Um, you always joke about the glasses ponytail. It's funny to literally just see her glasses and take off for the glasses on. Let's her hair down. Fantastic scene in the bar.

Amazing. We better get it on right now. Everybody turn around. Look away. Or we make an animal sounds.

And then we have the final scene. The final race, the foot race, which I have to say I got chills. When they started running on foot to the finish line. I would you to me. Good chills.

You're just a sports fan. It's a. It is moving. Stairs the soul. Uh, so what do you got?

What's what's most for watchable decay? Well, can we add more? Oh, sure. The. Commercials and commercial bloopers.

Yeah. I have that. Some of the other things I just enjoy. Yes. Butter my ass things I just enjoy.

Fake ads and commercials.

I mean, fake ads and movies are just they always work.

Yeah. Yeah. I literally have the same thing for that category. It always works. Just these.

Nothing for Christmas. Like a jack hawk not 1000 jack hawk 9000 holidays are just around the corner. We're going to get a loved one on the jack hawk 9000. Yeah. Available one jack hawk.

We're competitors on the racetrack. But we want to talk to you about something very serious. Packs of wild dogs control. Why are they just dogs? Especially most of the major cities.

If you don't you big red and fuck you. I've said that one million hours life. And dude, I and I know like it probably has an age great. When he's doing the the prune candy. Yeah.

Yeah. Right. All right. When I first. As a team.

World that fucking killed me. Yeah. Through the figure. This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient. But I do love figures bodies that looks so good.

You want. You got to want to talk to it. You want to get a look so good. You're going to want to talk to it. 98% of people will die at some point in their life.

Did you go to the original? The original. Well, so those.

I think some of the lines you're quoting are not in the middle.

The best bluepers. Those are during the end credits. Yeah. And the end credits. They're just kind of playing and they're cutting between.

No. No blindness and cats. No blindness and cats. It scares the living shit out of us. I would love nothing more than it.

Watch Will Ferrell do fake ads for like seven hours. I think the best scene. It's hard because like you said, every scene is great. My favorite scene is probably the dinner, honestly. The dinner and grace.

I want you to do this. Grace good. The dinner. Yeah. The grace.

The baby Jesus. Six pounds. Seven ounces. Yep. Yep.

He had a beard. He was a man. He had a beard. We do that all the time. We say that probably once a week.

Yeah. I think he was a man. Yeah. He had a beard. I make the money.

I picked the Jesus. Dude. I think this was the money. One point. Six million dollars.

I don't know. I think this was the most quoted scene of my childhood.

I think that's what's got to be up there.

Because you have. I'm going to be on your ass like a spider monkey. I don't know. I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew.

Thank you, Lord.

Baby Jesus. Like if you just kind of go down the line, like the amount of quotes that I've just just stuck in my brain from this, I think it was the most quoted line until, I mean, I guess maybe things later, but I don't think even my friends are even quoting Anchorman as much as this movie.

It's a good call. It could be up there with one of them. Volume wise. The most quotes of any scene of in the 2000. Yeah.

Quotes for a minute. Quotes for a minute. That still stick to this day. I love the way he's talking to you, Chip. Yeah.

The Tuxedo t-shirt then. That one is like, I picture Jesus in a Tuxedo t-shirt because it's like formal. But I like the part. It's like Leonard Skinner's just hammered. And I'm just hammered.

Big eagle wings. How does he shut the hell up? Yes, man. He's like like a changeling. Like a, you're like a, you're like a, you're like a, you're like a, you're like a.

It is really good. I mean, this is like the perfect example of that era where they would do 18 different takes of a line and just like see what stuck. So funny.

Also, talk, or Domino's KFC, and he always delicious.

Talkable.

I didn't even remember that he had sponsored the grace.

Without power. We have contractual. We have we get into mentioned the upcoming flavor. I don't know what the flavor was. Blue power.

Blue there is mountain mist. Yeah. That's kind of a new level of sponsorship. I didn't know it was full grace. Is having the sponsors in the privacy of your own home to just your family?

I mean, that's like a real marketing right there. To spread the good word. Yeah. So do you have the dinner, the dinner. I think it has to be the dinner.

But I do want to shout out the bar scene because I think the bar scene is sneaky. Actually unbelievable. And how also how funny it is because the whole like. What a France ever give the world is like democracy, existentialism and lemonade.

That's why. It's awesome. Good things. But the other one. It's just the crapes.

These colors don't run. He's actually like it had mess crepes this morning. But also the just the conversation into the bar where they're like, Yeah, my grandmother her birthday is coming up. I don't know what to get her.

She's turning any fuss. Get her a closet. I love it. That seems in the movie. It doesn't need to be there.

It's out. That was my that guy. We'll get to that one. Yeah. I think it has to be the grace.

I agree. It's dinner. Sucker. Sucker. Sucker's ready.

Slave and over this. Rower. I was slave and over this. Rower. Okay.

Today's most rewatchable scene was presented by Mazda. And the Mazda CX50 hybrid, which I literally drive myself. I drive that exact car. Wow. Which comes standard with a suite of proactive safety features.

So confidence isn't an upgrade. It's a given. Mazda. Move and be moved. Consumer reports does not endorse products or services.

Is it Mazda usay.com to learn more? You actually do drive us in that car. Actually all the time. That's right. With your front seat.

Back seat. Fantastic. Great car. Okay. I new category.

And the instead of Bill Simmons and springing it on you with that. Wow.

What is the number one enduring line or joke from this movie?

What has lasted culturally the longest. There's a kind of a category called like the 4chan get most giveable moment. But what do you think? I don't want to do that the gift. I want to do just like.

What is the quote or moment or joke or anything that has culturally lasted the best?

If you think first of your last.

Maybe. It doesn't make me laugh anymore. But I think that is the quote that has lasted the longest. I would agree. I would say first or last.

The hand thing. I don't just do it with my hands. Because I feel like everybody else. Still reference that. Yeah.

Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby. But it's going to be first. If you're not first your last is now just a part of the lexicon. Yeah. People, everyone knows that quote even if they don't know where it came from.

Right. Like a Tim Robinson meme where it's like I haven't even watched the show. If you're not first your last. I'm almost like. Man, that sounds like such a.

Like a common quote. I can't believe this movie came up with that. Like is that the first time that has been uttered. If you're not first. I was like Marcus Aurelius.

No, it was actually. It wasn't. This is one of my facts. It was actually a playoff of insulin body. Really?

Yeah. He basically said. I mean, in more proper English, I guess.

If you're not first your last.

It's like basically the winnings. The matters. And then Vince the body said, I'm a big hairy American winning machine. I wake up at the morning up. Okay.

I'm the best I have. I'm the best there is. Did you? Did you find that online or did you just remember? Yeah, if no, I found that online.

His famous quote was winning isn't everything. It's the only thing. And I think that was kind of turned into. If you're not first your last. Didn't McCain feral talk about that?

Or is that something that you connected the dots on yourself? No, I think this was like on the just random backs I found. I agree. It's if you ain't first your last. Okay.

What is the most two thousand and six thing about this movie? That a great time putting this list together. It was excellent. Hi, if it's what he got.

There's a few, but I think you have to start with the next hell patch.

Like, dude, next hell. I couldn't even remember what they did. What a cell phones cell phones. Which is that is just such a specific era. Yeah, sure.

The other one is just at the end.

Something I totally forgot about is the son who takes over the team.

He's like really trying to get Halle Burton to sponsor the car. Oh, that's why I put that down. Halle Burton references.

Halle Burton was like a reviled company in that era.

It's like Dick Chady's code. They're just like a rap late stage capitalism. Oh, is it oil? It's like oil services. Oil product.

Like oil logistics, basically.

I think they're doing rigs. He's like, I'd love to get someone at stop. So I would love to get my hands on that stop. And then I just kind of nods. Yeah.

That was like Adam Cage's put that in. And then he went and made advice. Ten years later. Yeah. What else you guys got?

I got a couple here. Making the villain a gay French guy. I live in sex. The butt of the joke being this guy super gay in French. Yeah.

It's pretty 2000. That is very. Um, these colors don't run being a thing. Something they say. That was like very much that era.

Uh, the sideburns. Soul patch combination. Yeah. Several of my friends had that. Like it was a really big thing.

Yeah. Not like outlandishly. People just did that. Like really long sideburns. Yeah.

Where does go? We don't do that anymore. Rightfully so. I think those. I'm not sure.

Most things have come back. I don't know if the long sideburn will come back. Um, to play off of the next tail thing, the mention of circuit city. He's got more plugs in him than a circuit city. Sure.

Circuit city being a thing. When when Carly says he wants to pull the plug. Yeah. She's like. Man, he's just.

I've never heard of make noise like that.

He just. Yeah. Um, that's like looking up. Yes. Mean, police skirt.

Oh, yeah. That was that. I mean, police means something to people of my generation. Yes. Yeah.

Yeah. If he's listening to this. This is like, okay. Yes. I know I do.

Super, super attractive. I mean, also just. John Gerard getting having lunch with Elvis Costello and most deaf. Yeah. Most deaf.

And he was actually there. Yeah. He's like, was that Elvis Costello? Most deaf. No.

Uh, the other one is sick. Will you be my gaity. Correct. Oh, that is. Yeah.

Come on. So what's your winner?

I think that's the elephant.

No. I mean, that's like the most 2006 thing.

I think I think it's the making the villain a gay French guy.

I have Amy Adams being a tiny small side character in a movie. That's kind of, yeah. Right. Throughout one other one. Sure.

I kind of think it's Sasha Baron Cohen in a way. And I know that he had a career after that. But I feel like you're like, oh, my god. This is like, what's that? Poor guy.

Poor guy came out three months after this. Yeah, well, get to that. But I just kind of, I don't know. Just, you know, what do you guys have? So the fluid gun dolly buttered my ass and all.

It pops in my mouth a word for something. I just enjoy. I have to fake ads and commercials. That's great. I had fake ads and commercials.

I got 95% of us will die at some point in our lives. The dark is just creeping towards you. Whether you want it or not. The other one I just have for things I just enjoy. One.

This sound of race cars. Yeah. Is unbelievable. Molly Shannon was honest on us. I don't think we'll do that later.

We'll do that later. That's way. That's like your way in Jenkins. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. We're going to let them just not. We're not doing it right now. The other one I want to throw out is just getting into a muscle car through a window without opening the door. Mm-hmm.

You like people do that? Every time dude, Ricky Bobby's dad does that at one point later. Yeah. I'm pretty sure the door's open in this time. It's done.

But always it's. And the last sort is just champagne when race car drivers win. Mm-hmm. It's a great. Yeah.

I like that. I thought about that. The only other thing I have is Rob Riggle and David Keckner just kind of being in every comedy. I just want them in every comedy. Yeah.

Give them four lines each. I love seeing them. They're a floor razor. Always great. I agree with that.

Something I really enjoy. Shifting gears in a car to music to aggressively pass one. Yeah. Just feels primal somehow. I like I love when they do that.

You know, I'm not a huge like chasing guy but a lot of people shifting gears to like change speeds for two hours straight. Do you like the movie Baby Driver? There's a lot of that. Yeah. It's like cell phones kind of like they had it almost invent ways for people to not have cell phones in a movie.

When there's all like driverless electric cars. Again, I have to invent reasons for people to use the stick shift still because I don't even know how to watch it. I don't know how to watch it. I have to shift shifting gears into the 2006 category. Do you guys know how to drive a stick?

Absolutely. Hell no. Hell no. No. Why do?

Let's see. Oh, and this is something that I've just noticed about a lot of movies. Sports movies from that era and from other areas. I love the using real life sports announcers in the movies about the sports and how they do voiceovers to kind of set the stage or whatever. I just think that's really fun.

I like that. So in this movie, I didn't. I forgot kind of forgotten that they do that.

And they use B role of like real NASCAR events, which I think always helps as well.

All right. What's AIDS the best? I got a couple. I think in general, the racing looks great. Yeah.

Yeah. You filmed it. It has a big budget. It has completely held up. There's a lot of it in North Carolina.

It just looks really authentic and really good.

The crash is look phenomenal.

It's just really high end.

You can tell that this is a comedy that they put a lot of work into in the production side.

It looks awesome. I have Leslie Bib. What we have to talk about. Yes. Her performance stands out more to me now than it ever has.

She was perfectly cast. No. You could not have her place or with anybody. Yes. She's phenomenal in it.

And then yeah, like her performance as a trophy wife. Just like that. Don't work. All of a sudden. She was like, it's gotten sweeter over time.

Yeah. They said that. So apparently, because that's good. That's good, baby. I like it.

I love fun. She's like pet talking when they're talking shit. It's so good. My dad's car I guess. Because that's was very involved in the making this movie.

And I guess the head of NASCAR basically was in the test screening.

And no one would laugh until he laughed. Like it was like, you know, style and rush or something. And then the wife thing where he's like, I'm a race. I'm a driver's wife. I don't work.

And he bust out laughing and then everyone else. Apparently, that was like a big sort of inside joke inside like the NASCAR community is like there's a lot of gold diggers. I mean, is that I feel like a cross. Probably a lot of sports. Yeah.

A lot of gold diggers and a lot of crazy S kids. Yeah. Is what I heard. What I heard. Walker and Texas.

Beautiful sons. Taylor. What do you guys have? Hi, Fitz. What's the best?

I have Ricky trademarking. If you ain't first or last and literally saying to the camera. If you ain't first or last and also that is a trademark. Frazier, you are not allowed to use that. Like watching it three weeks after Jane and Daniel said, you can't use it.

Is this what I said to you? Like this is incredible. I was like the very blatant like marketing. It was fucking great. It was fucking great.

The employees commercial during a crash. Like fucking great. It's like what creating advisors. Yeah, like when someone's like in someone's like in someone's life.

I think it's like just nap and half and it's like two for one.

I think that's what he does.

I always believe that that unhappened because we've been joking with that.

I was like four at FC Championship games ago. And it's like the new chicken finger crunch sandwich 1999. All right, we're back. Oh my way. That's great.

That's a good. The really PC track announcer somehow has it's. It's aged well when he's like ladies and gentlemen, that is a new track record. It's been a fact. And it's no way a comment on the driver's sexual orientation.

He also, he goes, he goes, the wonder bread. The wonder bread is toast when he crashes. I missed that. I didn't even know. Yeah, the wonder bread car is toast.

The other one I had of what's aged the best. It's rick sing. Oh, no, nobody could live forever. But I mean, with modern technology and advances in science, I think I can make it. Five, three hundred years old.

Three, four, five from three at the NBIG game. If I'm in a corner corner spot, three for five planted, no one around me. Easy money. Feet set. I was saying Brian Johnson is trying to do this now.

That's right. Well, now he's trying to dunk. He went from I want to live forever to I loved it. He's taking the bar down. He's like, well, I can't live to 200.

So maybe I'll just try to have a 43 inch vertical. He's realizing that if he doesn't get it in now, it's just not going to happen. Yeah, anymore. I had someone that we already talked about. I would like the post race interview.

I think it was, I just think it's so good. A big Kahuna burger award. Best use of food or drink. We can go crapes. We go big red gum.

We go dinner scene with all the takeout. Laughing clown malt liquor. This is like one of those like sort of things they don't really like mentioned during the show. But he's got his car is sponsored by laughing clown malt liquor. And then later his dad is drinking a can of laughing can't.

He's drinking that tall boy that black can. That's. He's drinking it. Laughing clown malt liquor.

Always with the tall can.

It's always so good.

I wanted to do the dinner scene for this, but the truth is they don't eat.

And you don't see any of the food. So I don't know if that's a violation of the category. It's just 20 kilos of Colombian band band work is. Oh, the lucky charging. Oh, yeah.

The the only one I want to wrap. Don't snort these. The part that gets me is every time when he's like drinking the coffee during driving. You've spilled my mouth. Maki eto. I think it's the lucky charms.

I think that's a good call. All right. Cool. Great shot. Gordo award. Most cinematic shot.

There's one crane shot that is pretty cool on top of the race track where the cars are going. And a crane literally swoops down over all the cars and goes into the. The driver's seat with Ricky. Yeah, that's good. I mean, I thought like the long crash where they're tumbling and slow motion. And you can like see there's a fire happening in like the engine block.

And it's as it's spinning and yeah, there's also an earlier one where he's like, Oh, I'm flying through the air. This is not good. There's also just cinematography making me want to be at a NASCAR race. There's a scene at that where they're kind of like introducing the race.

And I think they're doing like the start of the flag. They do like a fly by with like four fighter jets. I'm like, fuck, that might actually be really fun to go to.

I've been to a NASCAR event.

I haven't sitting on top of an RV in like the middle of the race on a little lawn chairs. I'm like, I'll try that. I'll do that. I have not been to a NASCAR event. I snuck into the Monaco Grand Prix.

No, that's right. Last year. So I watched it. And I fucking James Bond. The only person in the world who made money on it because then I went to the Monte Carlo.

And I won 25 bucks and I'll set my $22 on trains. And playing what you won 25 bucks. It was a great day. But the number one thing that was those cars are so few and 25 bucks. He was a great day.

It was a great day. I made money on it. Don't let that come up. It was like $1,000. It was a great day.

You broke even. But you walk out. The cars are so loud. Like unbelievably loud. And everyone's like, yeah, they're so quiet now.

But no, that's always the thing.

The NASCAR, it is an experience. I mean, the biggest sporting event in America is the any 500.

You're like, over 100, I think 200,000 people go to the end of 500.

It looks pretty fun. Chest Rockwell, Brocklander's award-best character name. I don't think we try to get. Where do we start with? I think it's Ricky Bobby.

I think we just. We keep it simple. I would like to ask her to Texas Ranger. Ricky Bobby is the most. Yeah, no, it's all right.

You're right. I mean, it's relative to like net. Yeah, the Texas TR Ranger is a funny joke in the movie. But relative to this is the name of character of the star of the movie, of the star of the movie, of the star of the decade, and it's in the title.

Where does Ricky Bobby rank among the best names of any characters that read? Good question. Is it better? Well, the real question is, is it a better name than Ron Burgundy? Yeah.

Ricky Bobby. Have you ever met anyone with last name Bobby? You ever met anyone with last name Burgundy? Little fair. I don't know.

Ron Burgundy or Ricky Bobby?

I'm going Ricky Bobby. I'm Ron Burgundy. You stay classy, Sandy. I go. Ron Burgundy.

I just laughed because I think of him as Ron Burgundy. But Ricky Bobby is also just kind of flutty. What's named you think is more famous? I think Ron Burgundy. I don't know.

I don't know. I think it's Ron Burgundy. Yeah. I think it has to be. Which movie had which one made more?

It was similar. Yeah. I think I think Talladega made more. Oh, no. But at the same title thing you're talking about.

Incroman is not called Incroman. Incroman is the legend of Ron Burgundy. I was going to ask you the ballot of Ricky Bobby. Do you think they had to call it ballot because they had just a legend of Ron Burgundy?

The ballot. The legend like name.

Honestly, that's a 2006 thing is titleing movies like this.

Yeah.

One word colon the blank of the blank.

Like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Things like that. Wow. It's a good question though. It's kind of an unanswerable question.

Ricky Bobby or Ron Burgundy. I don't know. We should put a poll on the right. I'm going to read those. I'm curious.

Kid Cuddy pursuit of having this award best needle drop. I have four that I loved. I have King of the Road to start the movie. Which is wonderful. The opening scene.

He's giving birth. A painted black in French. Oh, yeah. When John Gerard's taken off. Faithfully by journey.

When they're in the bar, Amy Adams and we'll fare all in there. And they're about to get it all. And then at the very end, TNT. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a great idea. I think it's a great idea. I didn't know who this was by, but saliva with click-click boom. Oh, yeah. Click-click.

And it's like, he's like, that's like what he's like shifting. That's like a classic need for speed song. That would be on every soundtrack. Yeah. Like, boom.

I think my takeaway from that category, the soundtrack was like, shockingly good. But the final song, too. We belong to. We belong to.

We belong to. We belong to. We belong to. Yeah. We belong.

So that song is like a choice.

That's what I did a Westworld fondament.

That's a mandatory. I did a Westworld fondament really wanted it to be the paint black in French. But I actually think that song is the answer. What did we belong? Yeah, I actually think that is the best little chop for the movie.

Because you have to nail that perfect choice. It is good. People like the ending of this movie and this song is pretty important to the ending. Is there a better title for this movie? So in the research, it says during development,

NASCAR didn't like the name, they wanted to change it. Are you going to be high-wide in handsome? I was going to ask you the terrible name. Why was that? They don't even line in the movie.

Maybe it would have been, or maybe it was a scene that got cut. I don't know, but that's not a good name. Tell a big of a nice, I think. I think it was. I think it was.

You don't want to mess with that. Was that the name? Because I think the K2 plays T.R. was saying that like, Oh, all the chairs and everything on this set. That's saying T.R.

TX is a stranger. TX is a stranger. TX is a stranger.

I like, like, the surprise check Norris wasn't in this movie.

Because they not get it. Just a dodgeball. I don't know. How can they not get it? They had just done the fuck you Chuck Norris and dodgeball.

You can't just run back Chuck Norris. Yeah. They did. The Walker and TX is right. Yeah.

You can't get it. It was just in a movie at the end of a movie.

My question is, do you think that was like the project code name for the movie?

Or they were actually going to call it high-wide hands? It says they were going to call it that. The other thing they were going to call it apparently was red-white and racing. That's not bad. I like telling it.

I mean, this is maybe an obvious question. Is it a play on days of thunder? Well, I don't think this movie is like a direct parody of that, but it is a parodying movie like days of thunder. John C. Riley, in days of thunder.

In days of thunder. Well, I feel like that was the big thing. I feel like that's also true. I might be stepping on it. I'm making it again.

Days of thunder, too. What? They just announced it. Oh wow. Tom Cruise and Anne Halfway.

Wow. Is he going to be dick trickle? Isn't that his name in the movie? Tom Cruise? One of the people in that movie.

Let's look it up live on air. Cold trickle. Cold trickle. There is a dick trickle. There is a dick trickle.

There's no connection. Okay. Dick trickle. Your head was just in the gutter. Dick trickle.

That's an all-time name. All right. DK. Yeah. You have a flex category.

Oh yeah. I went with the I used to fuck guys like you in prison award for craziest quote. Okay. Also, I looked that up. That's from Roadhouse.

It's fucking hard. Do that. I was lying. It's so serious. It's in his ear.

I used to fuck guys like you in prison. Holy shit. It's actually insane. It's crazy. It's crazy.

Then you rip that guy's throat out. Anyway. So craziest quote. I mean, this is a comedy.

So this is going to be a million funny quotes.

But like to me, though, are we about to get it on? Because I'm about as hard as a diamond in an ice storm right now. It's something I say all the time. I'm not. It's hard as a diamond in an ice storm.

Is it an old time? Yeah. I do. I love that her name is Susan. Susan.

Susan. You're just a little girl. I've never met her. I'm like the Carly. I couldn't stop her saying that.

You're weird. You're weird. It's a little girl. I could have used another sheet of Carly. Yeah.

Um, the other one that I thought was great was Gary Cole, the grandpa talking to the kids. He goes, "Shut up. You pot liquor. I'll put you in a microwave." I'll put you in a microwave.

That was fucking great. Also, he had another great line.

Late in the movie when he is introduced to Susan for the first time.

Susan for the first time. And he's like, I'm, I'm his lady. We had sex. He's like, is that right? He's like, well, I wish I could've been there for that.

And I think, please Bobby is maybe one of my favorites.

Also another great name. Please Bobby. Please Bobby. Um, all right. But just girlfriend of word, we can think of a film.

I don't typically like to do this, but I don't, I don't, I don't have any of them. Do you? I think if it was just like a quibble. Okay. Sasha Baron Cohen's accent.

It's just like too much. Too French. It's like, it takes him too long to say anything. I thought he did, I thought he had a chance to be funnier in this movie. He could've just like talked a little more normally.

It was like, it felt like he was, his whole mouth was numbed with novacane. It took him forever to get it out any word. So it's like a dog with, with peanut butter on his mouth. I don't know. I just thought he could have been funnier, honestly.

And then so I thought his accent, like the way that it kind of limited what he could do. He goes like very deep into the character. Yeah. More than he is trying to be like big and broadly funny. I'm from formula.

Yeah. Oh. I don't know. They're like the scenes where they kind of get in tight talking with him and Ricky Bobby. And he's like, I just love the way that Ricky Bobby's like so dismissive of.

And he's like, all right, he's like, and next. There he is. Whoa. And Ricky Bobby's just like, all right. When they're like nice to know.

And they're just like, I'm like the cakes. Okay. What's the age of the worst? I have. This is like a half age of the worst.

But there are a lot of cultural references that I have no idea what they're talking about. Oh, yeah. And actually. It's tricky. What's the worst?

Because I actually think. Comedy should be doing this.

I think references in the moment are good for comedies.

And I know you're trying to like play to the whole world now. So you don't want to do that as much. But I like it. What are some examples, you know? In 2006 when when Carly's like, if we want a couple of whistles.

We would a name of Dr. Quinn and medicine woman.

I never would do what that like to show that today.

To show from the 90s about it's about a female physician from Boston who moved to a Rugged Frontier town in the 1860s. It's a funny joke. But like I have no idea what that is like room. A clan of hand from Golden Girls.

Oh, I mean, something to be on the last week.

I. Classic.

The movie Highlander is reference.

The one the author. And I can't be on the one. What shit. It was shit. It won the Academy Award for what best movie ever.

But like, again, these are, I like when movies do this. But Katie Kirk and Diane Sawyer people watch now. They probably don't know what that means. Yeah, as mean Blitz skirt. Love that.

I had no idea what that meant.

So it's like it is literally age the worst because I think a lot of people who watch it now

have no idea what they're talking about. But I have personally like when movies do that. I also watched the trailer for Highlander. Have you guys seen that movie? Yeah.

It looks really bad. It's like it's it's a really bad. It's a really good bad movie. It's about an immortal Scottish swordsman who lives in modern New York City. And has to fight a lot.

That could be only one. Actually. I do love. I watched the hot end of the movie. It was shit.

That was decay about transformers. I watched the transformers movie. It was shit. Like, okay. What the long cigarette.

You literally say you watched Kingfid. You were like, oh, no. I love the fuck shit. I love they can communicate while driving. I think you just hear each other's talking.

It's a shit. That's the way. The homophobic humor, obviously. Right.

Was 2006 and would never play now.

What else do you guys have? Anything. I had that. You know, the scene where the grandmother takes in the two kids and they're out of control. And she talks about this is granny law.

And granny law just involves hitting the kids. She likes slap some. Oh, you're straight enough. Oh, interesting. You think the soft parents of 26 would not just say it's an age well.

It didn't age well. Those kids are little devil. Those kids. Those kids. Those kids are just so weird.

You guys are, you guys are defending hitting children. Look, everybody has their own, whatever you want to do. All right. Within reason. I don't know.

Within reason. Or I'm just saying it age poorly. She gave him like one slap. I know. This is joke.

Let me break. The joke is factually correct. Okay. Cal talking about how Carly was unconscious every time they've had sex. You know what?

I don't know what that meant. I don't know why that was in there. Right. Ready to be there. I don't think I need to mention that having sex.

That was very odd. I agree. That's all I got. I mean, the coogers named Karen. I don't know that age well.

That name has aged. Well, just that name. You know. Down, Karen. Just Karen.

Coogers named Karen. Is that all you got? I don't, yeah. No, I mean, I think you guys had it. All right.

The Ruffalo Hannah Rubenek portrait award for overacting. It's a comedy. Like Molly Shannon is like fucking going for it. But I would argue with works. But she is.

She's one of the highlights of the movie.

I don't remember what you're talking about.

Deca, can you remind us? Where did I have that? Because I want to make sure. She was my deon waiters. She just fucking goes for it.

You're getting ahead of. You can't agree. Yeah. That's what he wanted you to do. Do the goddamn fit.

I know. I was waiting. But I'll try. I'll tell you the overacting. Yeah.

She, uh, she's drunk and everything. Yeah. She's belittling her husband's career choice. He's like, this is my life. She's, she goes.

Karen. Karen. He's like, I'll tell you the one thing about coming to these races. The vibrations. Oh, the cars.

Woo! I just love. She's like, shake it. When those cars. Woo!

I realized I've been saying it wrong. It's Wizbot. Oh. Which is great. Feel the motor.

We're running up my eggs. Larry Dennis like looking around. Poor thing nobody is watching. I like the silverware clattery. Feel the motor.

Uh, okay. Hi, if it's you have a flex. So I realized that the flex category is. I copied and pasted your email wrong and there's like 30 more that I realized. Okay.

So I was like, I thought there were more of these. So, can I, can I, can I, can I crowd it? Can I pull now? Sure.

Because I was kind of like, why weren't there more of these?

Uh, I just found this out. What did you have before that? Before I had, I was, I was like, well, I was going to be like a race, a race horse name. Okay.

But I also just only found the first seven.

And I saw that there were three more pages of flex categories. I like how there's, there's a whole smoking subcategories. Oh, yes, sure. There's smoking. Should we take this opportunity?

Well, Bill's not here to just go through these flex categories. There's like 40. I know. We're not going to go through 40 categories. The, we can skip it.

No, I don't want no. I can't skip my flex category. And now this is a disaster for you. No, I know it is. What are some of your favorites, Craig?

Um, the, the Sean fantasy stealth movie homage that, that gives you a criteria orgasm. I don't even, this probably isn't referencing this, but there's a scene when Ricky Bobby signs a woman's chest.

It's exactly like happy Gilmore when he signs the light.

Oh, right. Yeah. And I wonder if that is referencing that movie. Let's go in. Yeah.

I put this on. The Sean, the Sean, I bet. Sean 10, I brought my own pack award excellence in on screen smoking. Yeah. That just makes me laugh.

As I think. Did you think that. Did you think that? John Gerard was good at smoking. The little petite long cigarette.

I felt like he, I felt like he didn't. No. Five out of 10. There's a bad cigarette.

So that would be the Tom Cruise, which end do I light award?

Yeah. For terrible on screen smoking. That's right. I wanted to ask the question about what exactly the, it's a book about medals. It's just like when you rewatch it.

You're like, oh, they're setting something up. It's supposed to be a plot or it's rewarding. It's just a quote that's good later.

It's, it's a quote that didn't stand out the first time you watched it.

But upon the 20th viewing, you're like, oh, that lines actually great. I want to give it to is psychosomatic. There you go. You can start a fire with your thoughts. Great one.

Okay. Actually, let's take a look. Wait. The other one I have. The best name for race horse.

We talked about Ricky Bobby, but you know what has not come up in this episode. Yeah. Hmm. A little bit of shake. That's actually shocking.

Okay. Shake your back is good. Is that a catchphrase or epilepsy? Shake your back. What, what does that mean?

What does that mean? What does it mean? Uh, great one. I kind of think a horse name shaking bank. How do we not say shaking bank?

I don't know. Or the magic. That's fucking crazy. Yeah. It's like, I'm going with LD Ablow.

What's that? Uh, it's like a fighting chicken or something. That's all. They love each other so much. I think we should start an ascarpod.

The three of us. Yeah. Why not? Get into it. Start now.

You just want to feel the vibration. I want to go to a fucking race horse. You didn't want to get into it. You didn't want to get into it. I want to go to a fucking race horse.

I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse.

I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse. I want to go to a fucking race horse. >> I want to go to a fuck. >> You really want to get drunk and watch NASCAR and vibrate in your chair.

>> Laughing clown, malt liquor, laughing clown. >> Wait, what is, why is this a hot take?

You want to start NASCAR pot. >> You just want to watch NASCAR. >> I'm like maybe NASCAR can turn it on. >> The hot take it, there is no hot take really I guess. It's just that NASCAR is actually way better than I thought. >> Oh, interesting. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You're going to start getting into it. Have you ever watched the NASCAR race? >> I have actually watched NASCAR back in the day.

>> Okay. >> It's kind of crazy to actually go like 500 miles. >> That's insane to me. But yeah, it's kind of fun to watch. >> All right, I've it tough to fall that. >> I want to watch a NASCAR race. My how to stick, this is the funniest sports movie.

>> Never made. >> Yes, like period. I mean, if you want to be like caty-shack sure,

but 21st century you can draw the line, but I think we all love happy Gilmore, but I actually think if you show someone happy Gilmore now and they're 40, it might not be that funny. This movie holds up. You didn't just have to be 11 years old to see this the first time. I think this is my favorite and the funniest sports movie. >> Water boy. We have Kingpin, Longest Yard, Catty Shack.

We have the other Will Ferrell movies blades of glory, kicking screaming, semi-pro. >> I think second is, it's locked in at second. I would not put it above happy Gilmore. >> I think it's more universally loved than happy Gilmore and I think it's probably an easier, an easier cell to somebody. I think if I had to show happy Gilmore or Talladega to somebody who hasn't seen either, I would be more confident that Talladega would hit.

>> I think Adam Sandler is a lot like Jim Carrey in that whatever you saw before your brain was sealed, that 21 years old is forever, but after that, it's just hard to break in and I we're watching this. I was just like this movie every part about it is still incredible. Dodgeball also there. >> Yeah. >> That's a good one. My how to take is that this movie has aged better than anchorman. I think it has. I think the humor and anchorman is like varied that era.

>> More esoteric. Yeah, and more specific to that era than Talladega and I think plays way better now. And I think anchorman is a much more famous movie. I think looking back on it is more beloved, but to be honest, I think if I go back and I watch Talladega versus Anchorman, I like anchorman because of my memories of watching it, and the humor at the time and the jokes I would make as a 12-year-old, but I think Talladega right now is funnier than anchorman right now. I think. >> I agree with that.

>> I don't, but that's why it's a good take. >> Like I think a lot of anchorman is like,

it's that like really kind of dry, run, burgundy, improvised, sarcasm, real bits of panther, like shit like this. >> Yes. >> 60% of the time every time. >> Right. >> I don't know. I think this humor is bigger and more universal, and I think it holds better.

I don't disagree. I always thought I was biased because I saw Talladega before anchorman,

and I just feeling my friends quote anchorman or Talladega more, and so I was biased, but I do agree with that.

>> I think there's a chance if I show anchorman to like a 20-year-old right n...

I think there's a better chance that anchorman falls flatter than Talladega.

>> I kind of see what you're saying. >> That's my hot take. >> Here's a half-baked hot take that I just thought of while we were talking, and this might not have been too close to right, but I want to throw it out there. While watching this movie, did you ever get the impression, I kind of felt this a little bit that it felt like it was too high budget, like sometimes I want my comedies to be a little bit

a little janky, low budget and campy and use physical comedy more than special effects and explosions and races and things like that. I did kind of have the thought when I was watching, and I was like this feels like too Hollywood. >> Too glossy. >> Yeah, this feels too big.

>> Interesting. >> And I think sometimes comedies hit harder when they're low budget.

>> And when it feels like friends making it in the backyard. >> Right.

>> Which like happy Gilmore feels a little bit more rag tag.

>> Like the only special effects in that is like the ball, like the long drives. >> I mean, it's also like a movie about golf versus fuck. >> Right. >> So I think this one had to be higher budget, I guess, but yes. >> Because if the racing looked really bad in this movie, I don't know if it works as well. >> It's good that they went to the places and filled everything. >> Yeah, I agree with that. >> I agree with that. That was just thought I had when I was

watching, I was like this feels very like Hollywood. >> I agree. And it touched on something. I find that we overrely on CGI to convey humor now. Like blockers is a great example. It started to like when they were doing things that weren't humanly possible or that clearly looked fake where it was like, or I remember in neighbors, there was at neighbors too when Seth Rogan is sitting on the chair and the chair explodes and he hits the ceiling. >> Yeah. >> Yeah.

>> And it looked so fake. >> Yeah. >> And I'm almost like, I'd rather you just find a different joke that you could film practically than use CGI to like deliver something that feels hollow. >> I was saying this the other day, we're on this trip, we were in Los Angeles. I was saying,

I think that the spaceship in the beginning of Star Wars and in Space Odyssey looks better

now than the spaceship, because they're like Avengers. >> Those are like miniatures that they film in real life, which is just on a computer. >> Yeah. >> I agree with you. I'm trying to think of if there's, I'm sure there are bad examples where I'm completely wrong on that take, but like for the most part, I feel like I like when comedies feel a little bit more just grounded in the dialogue and reality versus like the action. >> Yeah. I mean, honestly, you could extend

that beyond comedy now. >> Yeah. >> Everything feels like it's filmed inside of an Airbnb now or like super CGI, and everything is touched up in the background, everything's like really bright. And I think feels as lived in anymore, a lot of the streaming movies just like don't look real. And I think it's why I love movies and TV shows from the 90s and early 2000s, because it's like, yeah, and I watch super bad. I'm like, I feel like I'm there at a normal high school,

and this looks like how it would look. And now if you film the high school movie, it would just look too shiny and not real. So I do agree with you. Casting what F's, a couple good ones, for Cal Notten, it was not supposed to be John C. Riley, who, like, you mentioned this earlier.

I did not know this. John C. Riley was the originally supposed to be brick Tamlin from Ankerman?

>> Oh, was he? >> Yes, and he did do it because of scheduling. >> He would have made it probably a funny brick. >> I think he would. Yeah, I mean, it's crazy to think Steve, it's weird to think of anyone other than Steve Krill doing it, but John C. Riley, what was the, what was the like internet character that John C. Riley played where he was the doctor and he's like,

for your health and he was always drunk on wine and stuff. Do you know what I'm talking about?

>> And there was like a whole series about it. I want to say it was, I can't remember where it was based, a Timon Eric maybe. >> I think it was Timon Eric. Yeah, that's good call. But that blew my mind. I mean, I mean, I kind of can't, it can't not be Steve Krill now. >> Yeah. >> And a brick roll, like you can see. >> Right. But even the funny is brick lines or actually, like, killed the guy that tried it. Will Ferrell saying that? >> Yeah.

>> Yeah. >> You don't even mean like the other than I love lamp, like the actual funny things of a brick. >> I love the brick. >> Yeah. Up for the role of Cal Notten. Jack Black, Billy Kristel and Dennis Quaid. >> That feels weird to me. >> Dennis Quaid and Billy Kristel, I would like to say no to. Jack Black, I could see. Jack Black, I think, would have been funny in it. I think he's too silly and big. John C. Riley is really good at

letting Will Ferrell be the winner. I mean, literally like what Cal Notten is going to do. And John C. Riley is good at it. >> Right. It's meta. >> Jack Black, I think, would steal too much thunder. >> Yeah. >> But you're my best friend. I love you. What? Nothing. >> Yeah. But I, Jack Black, I get it. I understand why that was being considered. >> Yeah. >> And then for John Gerard, Michael J. Fox, Seth Green and John Stamos.

John Stamos? >> Yeah. >> 2006 John Stamos. >> Seth Green. >> Seth Green is a disaster. I don't know. That's one of one of the very odd things. >> Michael J. Fox also feels very weird. John Stamos, I could kind of see. >> Yeah, I could see that too. >> Yeah. >> The good looking slick back hair, the French, you know, thing, I feel like that would play. >> Yeah. >> I assume the new Borat was happening when they decided to cast them in this.

>> So good question. I don't know. Because I don't know how long it took to film. I mean,

I imagine this took much longer to film in Borat.

>> He was doing Borat bits for a long time. I was going to say Borat had him have taken long.

>> He is. He had a whole show. >> We had the allergy show. Yeah.

>> So he'd been doing the Borat thing for a while before the movie came out. So he, people knew about it. But he was more of like a, like a, I chose popular in the UK more. >> Yeah. He was like, I'm coming at a comic at that point. >> Yeah. David Cruz, so stuff, I'm doing my own flex category,

which Bill never does, but I'm taking over. The David Cruz, so stuff of legends award for the character

who definitely should have been spun off in their own sequel. Reads Bobby could have a whole damn movie around him. >> Dude, the backstory of the Reese Bobby, he worries like mixed up with the Klumbian cartel and doing what God knows what, he's like running drugs over the border in a car or something. >> Yeah, he's drug running, he's doing street racing, he's like knocking women up. I want to know how he keeps, he's like 12, can we get in like a real serious prestige TV style

there where it's not funny, it's just him doing serious shit. >> Yeah, like I would love to, if you had like 12 children, I want him like going to each one and trying to appreciate himself and do their family. I love, I love when Ricky first goes to see him or when he delivers the pizza and Reese keeps ordering pizzas so he delivers it and he goes, close the door, close the door and come in, I got weed in here cowboy. >> Punches him in the face like, son,

did this go well? Look, the first thing he says is how long has it been? Three, four months,

ten years, ten years are going to lay off the payouty payouty. >> Come in here and close the door, I got weed in here cowboy at the end of the movie, he's like, I'm starting to get a little itchy. >> I'm starting to get a little itchy. >> Applebee's waiter, so he's there. >> I said no onions. >> I think you did that on purpose. >> Okay, the joy pants are worth, that's not guy. This will be interesting because typically

I have differing opinions than the host of this show. >> I know, that's what I consider to that guy. >> True, quibble with this podcast is just, I try to understand more and more and more saying of like knowing people's names. >> Ridiculously high bar. >> I kind of think for regular people watch movies, the ultimate that guy is actually Gary Call, where it's like he's the guy in deep and also he's Ricky Bobby's dad and most people don't

know he's named Gary Call, but I know that somewhere he was in your house with stress. >> Oh yeah, he was in a bunch of stuff. >> But if he was lumbering and fucking office space, I think shit lumbering, fucker. I think beginner level, it's Gary Call. >> Yeah, okay.

>> I think if you want to go expert level to me, it's Ted Manson has chip.

>> I do not know that guy's name, but if I see that guy, I go, oh that guy from tell the Grandpa from tell that guy's. >> Yes. >> I don't think anyone knows his name. >> And then the middle level is the guy who's on the race crew that's also in forgetting Sarah Marshall. >> David Keckner. Are you talking about, he's the one that gets all squirrely when the jazz music comes on? >> No, not David Keckner. No, I went with Ian Roberts who is the getter and getter a coffin mine.

>> Which is like this. Just so random. He is by the way, the literal doctor from a resident development. >> That guy, that is, that is like crazy. >> He's going to be all right. >> I hate this guy. I'm sure it looks like he's a great call. >> I'm sure Bill Chris and Sean will be mad at the Gary call selection, but yes. >> Well, I'm sure I know he's Gary Call, but I do think no one's like that guy.

>> Well, obviously, Jack McGrath, who's I think he's, he's also in 30 rock, but I'm like to people know that guy's name. >> Kenneth from 30 rock. >> Yeah, exactly. >> I would argue that Larry Denit, the guy who plays the son. >> That guy's a black guy. >> Yeah. >> His name is Craig German. I'm sure people would be like, no, that's of course, to me, that's a black guy.

Anyway, all right, this is the most important category of the show because this is a real like five-headed race.

The on-weighters award. We have Molly Shannon, who is in like two or three scenes, crushes every single one of them. She's always drunk. >> tenderly touching the guy from Haliburton's face. I love it. >> Yes, it would kiss on the mouth. >> I love right before that, right before that, but she's like, you won't let me see you naked to her. And just under his breath right before the executive is walking, he goes, it's not a fear thing.

It's a trusting. It's so good. You're afraid of letting him see you naked, it's not a fear thing.

It's a trusting. I think Amy Adams definitely qualifies. Oh, yeah.

>> Do nothing. She's in the movie that much. >> The speeches. >> The speeches iconic. >> Yeah. >> Grandpa Chip. And the mix here. >> What was the line he said? I forgotten he made this line. It was like the mouse is fast, but the owl can see it. >> No. >> And then he like laughs at it. I can't remember what they were like. >> The field mouth is fast. I don't think Gary Cole qualifies. >> This was going to be my question.

>> I think Maria is in it too. >> Here's my thing with him. I forgot, until prepping for the show, that he comes. He starts the game, which maybe is bad for the young waiters award.

He starts the game on a 12-0 run.

Literally he does. I maybe it's too much for the young waiters, but Gary Cole comes in and says, 10 years, I got to lay off the peyote. No smoke in here. I don't worry darling, I'm a volunteer farmer. >> In front of the five-year-olds, he's like, I'm a semi-professional race car driver, and an amateur tattoo artist. Fastest who gets paid and the fastest who gets laid. And if you ain't first, you're last. That's the first four minutes of the movie.

>> All of that is in the same screen and then he leaves for an hour.

>> I also love that he's, every time he gets kicked out of places, he's always resisting.

>> He's getting so much daring. >> I'm a veteran. I'm a diabetic. >> He's just a veteran. >> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven.

>> He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven.

He's getting cut out of the oven. >> He's getting cut out of the oven.

>> It's like in the Godfather, you know, Vito Corlione is not in the movie that much, but he can't be the other way. >> Mm-hm.

>> For calling Reese the Godfather, tell the United States that I'll tell you. >> I'm just in run time, you might be right, but I think he's too important of a role.

>> So I would also give you Michael Clark Duncan, Rest in Peace, who's awesome in this movie. >> Our sponsors will shit a chicken. >> [LAUGH] >> That's great. And then really, many one, I did not know this until doing the research. >> The original driver for Dennett Racing at the start of the movie, Terry Shivou, is Adam McKinnon. >> Yeah, I was going to bring that up. >> I know that. >> He's like, hold on, I got to take a piss. >> I think he is so funny, I was going to be like, who is this guy? >> Hey, guys.

>> It doesn't matter, Lucius, we're in last place for last G's. I got to take a win. >> She's get off my ass. >> This is so fucking good. >> Good, these burgers are really good. >> Because I'm going to make a phone call. >> Let me eat this, then I got to make a phone call and then I'll be back.

>> [LAUGH] >> I mean, like, I got to make a phone call, stirring a race.

>> I think he crushes it in his definition of like one scene. >> Yeah. >> But, what do you think it's Molly Shen? >> I think it's Molly Shen. >> I think so. >> Okay, that's fucking great. >> I agree, Molly Shen. >> All right, recasting couch director a city. I don't have anything, I would not recast the director, I would not recast any of the actors. I don't think, maybe small stuff, and then the city, it's like, this is mostly filmed in North Carolina

in their own actual racetrack. I don't have a ton here. >> Christopher Nolan apparently loves this movie. >> It does, he just said that. >> So, remake? >> That's interesting. >> Like a remake, like, reboot it into a very serious, you know how the old Batman movies were like, can't be in forever. >> He darknessed it, dark night. >> Dark night,

Talidaganites. >> He should do days at thunder too. >> Talidaganites, there we go. I think that would be fun.

>> Days of greater two directed by Christopher Nolan starring Tom Cruise. >> That would do one. >> I don't, I agree, like, the cast is kind of perfect. I would like to see Tim Robinson do something like this with that. >> The only person that I felt like could go to Richardson, maybe Vikaal. >> The only person that I was like watching this movie, and I was like, could they go toe to toe with Will Ferrell's, or is like, I kind of was wanting a dynamic ride, couldn't try either role,

but I don't really want to change it. >> I feel like he was like so from that era though that it doesn't, it's like too close. >> You could have swapped a dynamic ride, maybe for John C. Riley, but I don't, I don't need to change that I think that a movie kind of crush it. >> Half out of sitting at research, we talked about a few things, shot North Carolina mostly. They got a lot of real-life tidbits from NASCAR drivers and commentators, some of what you're in the movie, like Ernhart's in the movie.

I mentioned that John C. Riley was in both days of thunder and this movie. Sony did not actually charge Br-- Sony, the studio that made the movie, did not charge brands like Wonder Bread, Old Spice, or Perry A to feature their products in the movie. >> What? Yeah. >> Okay, so that was going to be my unanswerable question, is how much did they pay, and you're telling me that they paid nothing? >> They didn't charge.

What do you-- how does that work? I actually don't know, and I wonder, I don't think that would be the case today. >> What do you mean that they just put-- because here's why that's funny to me. >> And one bread did every fucking scene in this movie. There are times where there are 12 logos at the same time and Wonder Bread, and they just got that for free. >> Yeah, and then the brands promoted it, apparently.

>> Which obviously I get, but yeah. >> That's shocking. >> A special time. >> I don't know. >> Things were different, no six. I guess, I don't even know. It's not like it was the 1970s. >> Blood Wiser is just everywhere, and they're not paying a dollar for that. >> Yeah. >> All right, that's shocked, man. >> All right, so stepping on it,

on that, one of my probably unanswerable questions was, is this the most product placement ever in a movie? >> Ooh. It's a good question. >> I mean, NASCAR, part of NASCAR is branding. >> It's all sponsorships. >> All the teams are sponsored.

>> I think the answer's probably yes. It's hard to make those claims.

I mean, there's the wanes, or what it is. >> But it is kind of just-- >> Yeah. >> The wanes are a joke is more-- it's kind of confusing. >> It's confusing, really.

>> But this movie, it's ever present.

that they would have to give a creative control for that much brand, but I just, I don't know,

much as you say. >> You guys have any other half-assed internet research?

The Will Ferrell's dad played sacks and keyboards with the righteous brothers for like 20 years, and his song is-- he has a song that's in this movie. >> Yeah. >> Very cool. His name is Roy Lee Ferrell, which is a great name. Kind of like a-- it feels like it's made up for this movie. The other thing that I thought was funny is there was an ESPN article from 2016 Ryan McGee, and he talked about how Will Ferrell and all the guys from the movie got like a

test drive on the track to start out, and they were going like 70 or something like not very fast relative to what these guys are doing, and they were like terrified. And then when they did the scene where Will Ferrell's trying to come back, he's going like 26 miles an hour. He was like, that was like kind of an homage to that, like-- >> He's just like literally what happened. >> Yeah, so it was the cars with the other cars with the other cars with the other cars. >> What's that?

But apparently what happened so they booked this place, I think I forget if it was validate or probably to show the speedway, and it was like Richard Dent training academy, and they took them there, and they had that book for three hours, and then John and then Will Ferrell did a run for 60 seconds and came back and was silent, and White is a ghost. Do you know, artists get Will Ferrell to say nothing? And then John C. Riley got in the car for 60 seconds,

and they came back, and he said nothing. And they're like, we're going to go, and they left. And Adam and K is like, we have two hours and 53 minutes left here, and they like got to the car. And John C. Riley is like, we can't beat Pocies, like we literally have Durga race car movie, we have to drive a race car, and then they like begrudgingly went back, but they wanted to leave. >> NASCAR is a sport I would say. I'm the least interested in participating in.

>> Sure. >> If somebody was like, you want to hop in a, and a fucking race car, do you like,

I think I'm good. I don't want to do that. >> Yeah, any other--

>> The other one that I met thought was funny, when I saw this was Gary Cole and Jane Lynch, who are Ricky Bobby's parents in the movies, in the movie, they are 11 and 7 years older than Will Ferrell, in the middle of life, which I love. Also, this is super random. I just forgot to talk about it earlier, but the line where Jane Lynch is recounting his conception, and he's like, it was like in some Texas roadhouse. >> Ruffler, Stakehouse, ladies room, he chose me, and then Will Ferrell goes,

"How late he's room?" I just love that, but such a good live. >> Oh, ladies room.

Jane Lynch, we didn't talk about her a lot, but she's awesome, and she's always good. She's always

like Jane Lynch. >> Fantastic in this movie. But even little things that you talk about lines that you like forget, and then you were watching later, it's like, but little second scene, like the babies born, and she said, "I'm going to go get some milk and cry." I'll be right back. The other half-acidate research is the gray scene that dinner scene took a whole day, and apparently Will Ferrell's feeding lines to the kids, and multiple shots are ruined,

and obviously the camera operator, as soon as not always calling cut, the camera operator had to say cut because he was laughing so hard and shaking. He was shaking the camera because it couldn't contain himself. >> The kids are really good. They got really lucky, because you never know with kid actors, both of them nail it. >> I love them a case style. I know we talk about this, but where they're doing just like 10 cuts, 20 cuts, like Rhino, just like feeding them lines,

and so there's a famous blooper reel from Anchorman, where they're talking about Will Ferrell, and Paul Rudd are talking about what breast implants are made out of, and they're just riffing, and whatever, and then in the background, so they're like, yeah, it's apparently made from cottage cheese, or whatever. They say a few different things, and then you can see Paul Rudd's trying to think of something, and in the background you can just hear Adam McKay go nickels, and then it's like

trying to get through the seed by saying nickels, and it's just like, I'm like, that being on the set, like that group of people would have been like, like, Michelangelo painting or whatever. >> That should be the hottest take, is they should, they should, fuck the Zack Snyder cut, there should be McCay cuts. Like, would you not want to watch, like, this seven-hour cuts, whether it's a movie, it should be released, it's been 20 years later.

>> Yeah, I mean, another many hot take is sometimes I like watching the bloopers, that's as much as I do. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah.

>> You're in a bad mood, just put on bloopers for me. >> I think you'll talk about that before,

but like, there needs to be a 2B channel that's just bloopers. I'd watch that.

>> Yeah, 100%. >> The amount of times, I'll just like Google the office bloopers are always

sunny bloopers or something. It's amazing. >> The darkiest is creeping toward you. Whether you know what or not, but it's so good, you're going to want to talk to it. [LAUGH] >> Oh God, there's just so many quotes. >> Real simple, son. >> [LAUGH]

>> Also Colombian band man. >> The Colombian band man, under the car, time to be a man, apex mountain. Will Ferrell? It's right around here.

>> It's really, yes, right?

I think you could argue it could be Elf, was just after SNL and Elf was massive. And then it was like, okay, will Ferrell's now. But this movie was huge, stepbrothers was huge, it's like, oh, four to a late. >> Right. >> It's hard to say exactly whether it's like this stepbrothers or Elf.

Do you think this movie is bigger than stepbrothers?

Like, not necessarily, like, how much money it made, but just from a cultural where it stands. >> I do. Okay. Interesting, I'm not sure. I think Talda is bigger than stepbrothers culturally. But Elf, I think, is the biggest movie he's, like, commercially.

>> But coming off, I just, I don't know, I mean, this movie, I may guess Elf made more money. I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know exactly why he picks mountain works, but I just feel like off this, the whole point is, will Ferrell, again, they literally pitched this on six lines of six words. Will Ferrell drives a NASCAR, is a NASCAR raceer?

Isn't that like the premise of Apex Mountain? >> He had so much juice there, just like, stuns.

>> She likes check, isn't that, like, the hypothetical question and bill always asks?

And like, that's the literal story of this. >> That's pretty, that's pretty good. >> Yeah, but you can argue, he can only do that because of what he did before. But yeah, like, you know what I mean? >> So this movie is because of his Apex Mountain.

He gets this movie. >> Kind of fucking ice, who got it. >> Well, because this is coming off of Anchorman, and then he's like, like, it's, but this made a lot of money. >> But this made a lot of money.

>> But the Anchorman, and back to back years, didn't it make more money than Anchorman at the box office?

>> It did. >> I also assumed that this had made a ton of money on the sponsors, and I guess that throws me off. As I assumed, the box office was way under counting. I assumed that there was like $50 million from Wonder Brad and Blood Wiser and all these other sponsors. >> It's hard to tell.

>> He comes out asking how he does old school elf in Anchorman. And so you could argue, it's right then. But then I guess he does tell dig in nights, and then two years later he does stepbrothers. Maybe it is tell dig in nights. The point is, the two-year window is probably right here.

>> Mm-hm. >> John C. Riley, I would say yes, because I believe this movie Greenlit, him getting his own star role in a movie, which is walk art.

And he never really had that again.

And although he's had a great career, he's done amazing good movies, Boogie Knight, he's been into bunch of stuff. But doing this and then getting your own lead comedy role, I think it's got to be now. >> Yeah, I could see that. >> NASCAR movies, this came out the same year as cars. >> Right.

>> You could argue 2006 was the apex for NASCAR. >> Oh, easily. I was just going to say NASCAR. >> See that, I don't think we're qualified to answer that, but I do think the NASCAR movies is coming.

>> I think I read that, this is like who knows.

And I'm not a close follower of NASCAR, I don't know where it is like right now, but. >> I read that viewership peaked in 2006. >> Really? >> NASCAR. It was number two to the NFL in terms of live watching at that time, number two to the NFL.

>> Wow. >> And I don't think it's, I don't think that it's at that point anymore. And then we got F1 kind of coming in and stealing some of his thought. >> Yeah, it's a lot like for me to be coming in and people are gravitating toward that. But I do think NASCAR, and maybe NASCAR with a viewership, but NASCAR movies for sure,

because the other reason, the other thing that stands out on a rewatch is how few drivers are in the movie. You have Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for literally about five seconds, makes like, don't tell, like it was a metamo and don't tell the other drivers. >> Yeah, but like that was, it was very real because their NASCAR was very, it was kind

of a risk for them to allow this because they were very much like, are you making fun of us or are we in on the joke or are you laughing at us or with us? And it worked, but I feel like everyone was, all the drivers basically were like, we don't want to be part of this, we're afraid we'll be like, maybe sponsors also. That might have been why they didn't have sponsors that paid is because I think a lot of

sponsors for the real cars were concerned that it was going to be bad for their image or whatever. >> Yeah, I think back in the day, it felt like sports leagues were more open to letting their like miss being involved. Now, I don't, you don't see it as much, but like, you know, you watch Ace Ventura,

the dolphins are like sure.

>> Yeah, the NFL today would never.

>> No, yeah. >> It doesn't happen as much now. Any Adams know, Soshibar and Cohen, I mean, it has three months later, it has to be right now. >> Yeah.

>> It literally three months later before that. >> Yes. >> It's probably after Borat comes out, but this year for sure. >> Yeah, I mean, I mean, I mean, Talidig and Borat in the same form of theory, it is pretty great.

It's crazy. >> Um, so I was, I was going to say shaken back, caught to be a pink smile for shaking back. >> I thought about that. Are you talking about the product or the, well, I looked it up.

Like apparently shaken back, it has exploded in the last like 10 year. >> Really? >> I'm trying to tell me that. >> I don't know. >> I wrote down shaken back, but then I was trying to figure out, like, just sales

by year, and apparently it's just gone up a lot in the last like 10 years. >> No, it's, it's, what do you tell my nights? >> I'm, I'm open to it. >> It's one of the most iconic phrases of a really popular movie. >> It's not now.

>> I haven't heard of it. >> Shaking back. >> No. >> Check it out. >> And whatever.

>> I don't think so.

>> I'm not like, I'm just saying I looked it up.

>> If you smell a nice crispy, delicious smell to this podcast,

it's not your tailpipes. >> A little bit of shape. >> I'll leave those to the other. >> And bacon. >> Put it in the oven.

>> Put it in the oven. >> A little bit of shape, and a bad man. >> Sideburns in movies? >> Yes or no. >> No, the American has to be gangs in New York, Billy the Butcher.

>> Yeah, that's the best sideburns all the time. >> No four? >> No four? >> No four? >> This is how you meet it.

>> Until you get sack, we'll give a fuck about your moral conundrum. >> Wow, okay. >> It's a secret, it's a command. >> I don't know, these sideburns. Everyone's got sideburns in this movie.

>> There was a lot of sideburns. It was a real thing that was people were doing. >> Sideburns were the thing. >> Jack McBrayer, I'm saying yes.

This is the first year of 30 Rock.

He became Kenneth, a pretty rock. Two years later, he's infregeting Sir Marshall and 30 Rock still going. You could argue it's then, right around now. Gary Cole had a great run in Veep. He's done a lot, hard to kind of pick what that would be.

Jane Lynch, did Glee? >> Mm-hm. >> Yeah. >> And role models? >> Yeah.

>> Yeah, I forgot when that was. >> I'd probably say Glee for Jamie. >> I think it asked to be. >> You got any other? >> No, I just wanted to make sure we just acknowledged help.

Fucking big Sasha Baron Cohen was, sure in 2006. >> Yeah. >> Cruiser Hanks, as Ricky Bobby, they just got to be Tom Hanks. Tom Cruise did the NASCAR move, he's got to be Hanks. >> I agree, I just don't think he would be funny with Tom Cruise.

I don't think Tom Cruise is the right fit. Hanks, I could actually see doing the Southern. >> He has the accent. >> Over the top, like American race car driver thing? >> Like, like, Forest Gump adjacent.

>> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Forest Gump later in life becomes a NASCAR driver, but he's driving the little fucking lawnmower, but actually he just wants to go fast. >> With that said, if Cruise did it, he would actually drive the car.

>> Yeah. >> And he could probably get some insane shots of him, like actually racing up like Dale Earnhardt, but it's got to be Hanks, I think. Picking Nits, look, this is a comedy about a race car driver. >> Sure.

>> Hard to get too specific here with Quibbles.

The only thing that I think about is, like, when Ricky is down on his luck and

his out of NASCAR and he is still incredibly rich, where's all his money? >> Cal took. >> Why does he have to go deliver pizza? >> They literally said the number 21 points is million dollars. >> This year, he made 21 million dollars that year.

>> I think, Carly was, she took all the money. >> Who's all on her name, he had no money. >> Like, I love it, Cal and Carly and Bezos, all his money. >> He took his house, took his wife, and his money. >> Yeah.

>> You're ruining my last. I just love that he has to go live in his mom's basement and deliver pizza three months after being the most famous driver in the world. >> I love that one.

>> I do commercial, I do never thought of that.

>> That's funny. >> Yeah, I'm not going to overthink things like the Cougar in the car. Those are bits. >> A Cougar would kill you. >> A Cougar would probably kill you.

>> There's also no Cougar's in North Carolina. >> Well, we don't know where he's trapped out of from. >> He did, that's true, he did just say he trapped it. >> I've been feeding it old pizza. >> Maybe he trapped it in somewhere else.

>> I love when Ricky comes back home after his long days. I got mold by a cougar. >> Rude, my shirt got mold by a cougar. >> Only knit, I'll have that actually as I watch it, I'm like, bothers me.

Is they opening part with the owner of the dad? They're like, I love Ricky Bobby. And then they just transitioned the sun's running the team. And they never actually acknowledged that the dad was gone. And they never just, I did just running the team.

But it's like, I don't think that.

>> I was like looking at it up to, I was like, why?

>> I assume he dies, but he really does it. >> He's not dead. >> Like in the lore of the movie? >> I don't know, but I don't think he dies. >> It was like probably one scene that they took out.

>> Yeah. >> It was a continuity thing and it just they just were like, they needed like the rich spoiled sun to take over. I just assumed that there was a scene they cut where he dies. >> So I thought it was kind of like, this is a knit pick.

It's like they, the reason, denit, junior moves on from Ricky is because he refuses to win the points title. It's like, it's a huge knit. It's like, is he only other big one I had? I'm like, Ricky's winning every race.

>> Yeah, yeah. >> He like flipped a guy off and lost some points or whatever. >> Yeah, he's got his shepherds, the grand slam and he's like, I'm not gonna win the FedEx title, but Ricky's also a huge dick to it. >> Yeah, I do understand that a little bit, but it's like, okay.

>> Well, the only other thing with it is, this is not a knit, but it's just upon rewatching it a hundred times. I'm like, I kind of forget sometimes that the race, it's not really for anything. And Taladega does it have a ton to do with this movie,

other than just being the ending. >> And it's a good name. >> And it's a great name. >> And it's kind of like the joke and sign filled where they make the, it has to be titleist for Cramer hitting the golf ball.

They have to be that.

Like Taladega to my knowledge and ask art isn't necessarily like the most important race.

>> Yeah.

>> You know what I mean? It's, and I don't think I ever thought about that. Like called Taladega Knights. And I'm like, it's kind of just the next race after he has a mental breakdown. >> It's more personal stakes than it is actual professionals.

>> Yeah, yeah, there's zero. >> Yes. >> Okay, SQL Prequel Prestige TV all black has her untouchable. This one hundred percent could have been a SQL. And I'm glad it's not, but they could have totally done it.

They thought about it. McCase that they had an idea where Ricky Bobby goes to Europe to do Formula One. >> Yeah, that's what I mean. >> Yeah. >> And it's like Ricky Bobby and Europe, that's funny.

But I think that still might happen solely because now they would get all the sponsors

and they would get to pay, kind of like Happy Gilmire 2. Like all the people you could get involved. The drivers, Michael Jordan would probably do a NASCAR cameo or you get Formula One. Like a lot of people more friends would pay to be at that. >> Yeah, McCame Ferrell, I don't know if they would, they would do that to you.

>> Oh, that's true, yeah. >> Ferrell hasn't done a ton of like true sequels. >> They did anchoring them too, Zoolander 2 happened. >> They both, that is home too. >> I'm glad the Ferrell and McCase have not really together ever made a sequel.

Other than anchoring them too.

Because it's just, it just, it never, it usually doesn't work.

There are certain types of companies like the Austin Power parody movie spoofs. You can do more of like naked guns. Like, comedies about like, you know, subverting expectation. You can't do it twice. When you know who Ricky Bobby is, it's just, this is not going to be the same.

>> Yeah. >> So I would say untouchable. Is this movie better with Wayne Jenkins? Ferrell, the Florida Zain Low, Robert Evans, Dr. Charles Nichols, Ted Levine, or somebody else? >> Got them, Ricky.

>> I don't know, I was working with Magic Band and El Diablo. >> I was just going to throw in Tom Brady because I was like, I'm not going to do Zain Low. I'm not going to do Zain Low in disrespect CR like that. Like you just, I'm trying to, it's no much. I know I'm not Chris Ryan, but I just want to team to be with us here in spirit.

>> No, it's good. It burnt those aware of the show, he was, he was asked about it. He knows that CR guys, Ryan Jenkins, which is incredible.

>> I was just thinking, what have Tom Brady was doing to it?

>> Listen, play, play. >> Play, play, play. We got a lot of juice here for Team Denit Racing, KB. We're watching some high level driving out there on the track today. Great stuff, KB.

>> KB, it seems like he's going backward, KB.

I love a competitor who I love that he's just, he's never giving up, KB.

He's not on fire, KB, he looks to be on fire, but he's not, it's all mental. It's in his head, just one Oscar who gets it, it's well-ferred. So, I admittedly, I'm not Chris Ryan with the impressions, and I'm not showing fantasy with the Oscars, but I had to ask you a question. So this year, so this is August 26th, 2007.

>> Yes, I mean, February was seven Oscars. >> Yeah. >> Mark Wahlberg was nominated for the departed as a supporting act with the Oscars. >> Is he actually better in the departed than John C. Riley is mentality tonight? I know comedy that doesn't happen.

>> That's the, of course not. There's probably, you can pick up three comedies every year, where somebody is putting on an incredible performance. They rarely nominate comedies. >> I know there's like five spots, and they should be more, but I just,

also, I mean, but if you had to give an Oscar, you would give it to John C. Riley and it's maybe not Will Ferrell? >> Well, it's the role given in Oscar in this movie,

or is the role you have to pull the Oscar from that year.

>> No, you are the Academy, and you can give an Oscar to whoever you want. It can be descriptive, it can be cinematography, it can be an actor. >> I mean, the lame answer is the sound is actually shockingly good. The NASCAR, I know it's fucking lame, but I'm just thinking that. >> The sound you're going to give it to the sound over Will Ferrell?

>> Well, so you're saying I don't, I have to, because who won the best actor that year? >> It doesn't matter, don't, don't, the Oscars, it's, if you can give it one Oscar to anyone. >> Yeah, it will be, and it's Will Ferrell. >> Okay, I thought you're asking me to pull the Oscar way from force Whitaker,

the last king of Scotland, I'm like, okay, you think you deserve that? >> I actually, I mean, it, I mean, come on, man, it's a good, it's good role. >> Probably an answer, but questions. So, kind of, what happens with Cal and Carly now? >> I know, I was wondering about that.

>> Carly kind of slips away as this movie ends, they kind of just like don't, because it, like, what's going to happen, is she, I'm assuming she would leave Cal for a different driver? >> Yes, so it happens. >> I imagine so.

But Cal, Cal won, and he still has his sponsors and things. >> Well, that's a good question. >> But now Cal and Ricky are friends and things. >> Yeah, I think they just go back and they just kind of get up. >> But Ricky's got a new girl, you know, the answer.

>> Oh, yeah, Susan. >> Yeah, did you know. >> I was like, I wish it was there when I was in there for that.

>> But it's like, I always say that shit with my friends.

>> Ooh, I wish it had been there for that. >> Well, because I feel like the whole movie there's the circle, Cal kind of being into the two of them, I feel like Cal and he's like, I'll hold her hair. >> Yeah. >> And when they're making out, he's kind of into it, you know?

>> Yeah, yeah. So, like, Carly's just, I don't actually like to think they say together. I think they could be a threple. >> I feel like Cal would want to stay together. >> Yeah. >> But Ricky would Ricky allowed Cal to date, Carly.

>> Yeah, I can see, sorry for him. >> He felt bad for making him get second the whole time. >> This should have been my Flex Category, which is the Dennis Peck relationship test. >> Okay. >> But it really will count not, and test this relationship.

And no, I actually think they could be a threple and be totally fine.

>> What about Susan?

>> Oh, fuck. >> That's a threple.

>> I feel like he should just be with maybe they could just be like, I think it's Cal stays

with his wife and then Susan. >> I still live in the house, it's so hot to find. >> That's the spin off I want to see by the way, the horror movie, it's just about the houns and house. >> Get out.

>> I think Carly's dating Dale Earnhardt in a month. >> Oh yeah. >> Jeff Gordon. >> All right. My next unanswerable is, does the slingshot actually work?

>> No, I was going to ask that too. >> They're all shaking fingers. >> This is the entire tour to France. >> It's like you're just dragging on some and then you go around. >> I don't understand how that makes sense.

>> This is a geese fly, it's like you're breaking up there. >> Or it's how geese fly. >> Do I need to say that? >> Obviously. >> I don't know.

>> But in the V famously. >> Yeah. >> But it's because the most effort is the person, the crooked. >> I understand that the person in the front is taking the most wind. >> Right.

>> And that the person behind is not receiving anyone. >> And immediately, wouldn't that slow? I don't get it. >> I think there's a brief vacuum of air that happens. >> Where do you set up your time?

>> Your velocity can keep up despite moving into the tunnel of wind. >> Famously, I'm a scientist, but think about a boat.

Think about a water for a second.

>> Yeah. >> And you're boat. >> Think about the waste. >> Wait, the disruption. >> Mm-hm.

>> And like that, but that's happening in the air. >> Yeah, but if you're behind, if you're in the wake behind the boat, I get it. But the second you leave the wake and you're now just like everybody else. Why does it shoot you so fast? And does this happen in NASCAR all the time?

>> I don't know. >> I mean, this was happening in need for speed, so I assume. >> But I guess someone who knows about physics. >> Not hyphids. >> I mean, short of France, this definitely happens.

My question is, why don't they do this in horse racing?

Why are there no team-made teams horses? Like, can't horses work together? >> I mean, maybe, you know, two running backs. One should just run behind the other. >> That's good.

>> Fullback for the air. >> You know what I mean? Like, maybe DeAndre's left should be behind. >> But how many does I push push? >> Yeah.

>> That's good. >> Andre, slingshot, something like that. >> I had the same question, Craig. >> Yeah. >> Slingshot, engage.

>> My unanswerable questions. How many people do you think have been conceived in a russ or steakhouse bathroom? >> Probably hundreds. >> Or ladies room?

>> The way he threw. >> He chose me. I asked you before, I do wonder if it's the most product place I've been ever in a movie. >> It's a good one.

>> I want to know where I can find the cow spread for play girl magazine. >> He said he pulled his butt cheek support. >> I want to know. >> My concho. >> There's a world in which that has been,

that's a real thing that took place. They filmed that just for fun. That photo shoot exists. >> 100%. >> I bet you, like Adam McKay, has that in his garage.

>> Right. >> Just find a lot of tape. >> He's just got it everywhere. >> It's called Boogie Nights. >> The other unanswerable question that I do think is important

is like, do you think Ricky's right about the praying to baby Jesus thing? Like, Jesus, obviously big-

>> I think you can pray to whichever version of Jesus you want.

I agree. >> It's kind of a good point. >> Yeah. >> It's very open of him actually. >> Yeah.

>> He's like, your Jesus can be whatever you want to be. >> Yeah. >> This is my Jesus. >> Can't even think. >> Can't even think yet.

>> Don't don't even know a word. Newborn baby Jesus. >> I love how he's like. >> Can you please heal my wife's father, Chip, whose leg he has is a horrible, horrible leg.

It smells terrible in the talk.

>> No, he never does make a hot daughter.

>> The dogs are always bothering with it. >> Okay. Almost done here. The memorabilia you'd want most. I think it's got to be the Wonderbread Hat.

>> I had that for Halloween. So I kind of, it's like 40 bucks. I kind of want something like that. >> That's the car. >> This is memorabilia.

You get the real one. The real one. What is hell, man? I don't know. >> I think I want Will Ferrell's crystal gale shirt.

>> Hmm. >> I kind of want the cougar. The cougar man. >> The cougar man. >> Like the stuffed cougar.

>> I want both. >> Like the role. >> I want the real cougar. >> The cougar is probably dead. >> That was 20 years ago.

>> What do you think about the car? Where is that car now? >> It's probably in a back lot somewhere. >> That's what I want. >> You want the car?

>> The old sunset gallery. All these random cars from other movies parks. And I'm like man. No one's using those. I kind of want that car.

>> I want one to bread suit and hat. >> And I want game worn Reese Bobby's wardrobe. >> Yes, I'm great clothes. >> He doesn't. >> You just want a six pack of the malt liquor.

>> I love when the cougar when it's clearly this. >> See what you're talking about. >> Cougar. >> Cougar. >> Cougar.

>> It's even funnier. >> And they're adding in like, like they're falling. >> They're adding in like growls. >> It's falling. >> Mr. Miyagi Award for best and worst life lesson.

And I think there are two life lessons that are in conflict. And we have to decide which one is the ultimate and during lesson of this movie.

Which is, is it either, are you first, you're the first or last.

Or is it you could be second, third, fourth or fifth. >> It's the latter. >> The point of the movie is, it's, you can be second.

You can be third.

>> No, but the point of the movie is, you should be winning for yourself. Not for anyone else. You should do it because you love it and it's for you.

>> And you should, I think that's obvious lesson of the movie is, you can be second or third.

>> First or last. Or you could be second, third, fourth or fifth. Which lesson would you go by? >> You could be second, third, fourth or even hell, even fifth. >> That's loser mentality.

>> Yeah. >> I kind of think it has to be the lesson of the movie's first or last. >> Greatness was built on first or last. >> Sure. The other lesson that I thought was very poignant in this movie is,

sometimes people don't change. >> I mean, he put out tickets for him every week. The entire time. >> He's telling the tickets. >> That's something of the tickets immediately after finally showing up.

>> It's the best bit of the movie ever. >> And he movie ever. >> 60 bucks a pot? >> He's lying to that much money. >> Because I imagine we're fantastic.

>> Yeah, I believe he gets some tickets for me. >> But then he just watches from outside the fair. >> Who needs tickets? >> A Reese Bobby has great.

>> I always admired his like hitchhiker mechanics, the thumb.

>> Oh yeah. >> He's my favorite. >> He's my favorite. >> He's my favorite. >> He's my favorite.

>> He looks really good. >> He's doing the both ways thing. >> It's great. >> He's like watching from up in the behind the stairs behind the fence afterwards and like shaking his his can.

>> It's like this is not his first video. >> He always has like backwash left. >> Hey, Dad, where are you going? Does it matter? >> Yeah, kind of like unexpectedly heavy that scene for a moment.

>> And it does it. Best double feature choice. I'm going to play the glory. >> Really? >> Yeah.

>> I feel like it has to be an increment or step rather. >> No, I won't. We'll play sports. >> Yeah, that's what that. >> The will for playing sports thing does make sense with plays a glory.

>> Yeah. >> I want Ferrell and John C.Wine.

>> I kind of like, I think I would rather watch an increment.

>> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Tell it again. >> I'd like to do an increment. >> Yeah.

>> I think it's an increment. >> Also do. >> Cars was released in the same year. >> That could be something. >> Catch them together.

>> There's the classic cars. >> We've got a lot of ways of thunder. >> Blades of glory is underrated. >> Blades of glory is funny. >> That was good.

>> All right. Last but not least, who won the movie? >> I think it's Ferrell. I think it has to be Will Ferrell. >> Not cow.

>> Got to have sex with his transwife. >> The consequence for you got his house. >> Well, she was got his house. >> Like, yeah. >> Is that anyone at the end?

>> He won the race. And he has all his sponsors? >> No, it's Ferrell. >> Ferrell wins. >> Yeah.

>> I mean, McKay and Ferrell, if you could combine them, you would do that. But it's got to be Ferrell. It was like the biggest movie star in the world. >> Yeah. >> Basically.

>> The finding on the guy. >> Those are the days, man. >> Will it come back? >> Yeah. >> I don't know.

I don't really have high hopes. >> Okay. >> We need a couple things. We need, like, an obsession style comedy hit.

Whereas, like, some movie made for five million bucks.

>> It'll happen. >> Or we need Shane Gillis and whoever to be, like, screw it. We're doing a huge comedy. >> Poor Knaulos does. >> Yeah.

Both need to happen. >> The heat tubers are just making movies, man. This is the beginning. >> Yeah. >> There was some report about Shane Gillis doing

some big comedy in the next year or two. >> Oh, interesting. >> Yeah. >> That's on the Hollywood Reporter, something like that. >> Well, you said your favorite movie, your favorite comedy

in the last, like, 10 or 15 years was, what was it?

What, no, what was it? >> Well, the end of that came out this year, which I thought was amazing. >> Really funny. >> Seth Rogan? >> Yes, but it's, like, more of a, it's like a big broad comedy.

>> But in a time-block comedy. >> No, we need, like, separate this again. Things like that. This was fun. >> We'll be back on this show.

>> Yeah, we'll see if we'll be back. We'll be on the fantasy show, though. Listen to that. This is like, it's Labor Day. This episode is coming out.

So, it's the same day as the take perch on the fantasy football feed that we do. So, check out the take perch, which is kind of all professional credibility is suspended for 60 minutes. And we give takes that we've been holding on to all

off season. And then we'll be with you throughout the entire NFL season. >> Four shows a week. Four shows a week.

Fantasy, the fantasy off season is finally coming to an end.

>> What? >> I know. You guys are headed back to your homes. >> Tad. >> Yeah.

>> We spent a long time together. 11 days as long as we've ever spent together, right? >> I think we did this last year. >> I think we did, I think. >> Let's do two weeks last year.

>> We did. >> Home, we were traveling with the two weeks. >> Is that right? >> You were going to eat tired. >> Well, I've treated you some nice dinners.

I'll take you to the west side tonight. >> Sure. >> Hi, Fitz. DK. Thank you.

We'll see you next week. Another watch. Thanks. [MUSIC]
