Is that not where the clock hit like a whole.

[laughing] [laughing] It's like the Mona Lisa.

Men's team and their women's team with our gold medals,

how we just went to for two. We're definitely in a different position now than we were last year standing wise. Let's face it. We're not in the world's greatest spot. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to Wingmen.

Your hookup to hockey. This episode is presented by Tax Act. Let's get them over with. Where are your hosts? I'm Brady Kachuk. And I'm Matthew Kachuk.

We finally got some merch.

You can finally get at WingmenShop.com. We had the Secretary of Defense, the MVP of the Olympics, the MVP of Team USA, one of the greatest guys going,

Connor Halibuck, he joined us, so let's get right into it. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we have our third guest on the Wingmen podcast. Olympic gold medalist, MVP of the Olympics,

and the first current national leader, ladies and gentlemen, the Secretary of Defense, Connor Halibuck, welcome. Wow.

Thanks, guys. There are a lot of people.

Just to never have to pay for a drink in the United States ever again.

That's it. You know, it was weird. I went with a few guys doing the other day in San Jose, and San Jose, like there's no way no one's going to know me here.

I couldn't get down the street. Everyone's every five steps is a picture. And like I love it right now. You're so connected to USA right now, but it's just crazy.

The other life changes immediately. Fuck it. That's unreal. That's unreal. At least the place you at least almost expected.

San Jose. Yes, literally the last place I cannot believe that you started off with San Jose. First of all, that's tough. That's tough.

That's it. I'll say. Yeah, I know. I know. But you know what?

It was with met a lot of cool people in that show. I mean, you guys must begin it everywhere. You go. You saw me that video of your hotel room. Yeah.

So I just just to let everybody involved on what I'm at. Where I'm at right now. So I'm at the [bleep] New York right now. I walk into my room and they have like pictures everywhere. Thank you, Heli, by the way.

Yeah, thank you. Thank you. So let's play everybody. Great. Let's let everybody in on that real quick before we get to this.

But so once a day, quite a year like this one, too. It's mandatory text and the team chat, which for like everyone listening, team chats. They don't really buzz a whole lot all the time, 24/7. This chat, since we've left the Olympics, has been pretty much nonstop, which is awesome. Because the group of guys were actually literally the best group of guys ever.

And this chat has been nonstop, but it is mandatory. That somebody different every day throw is in a something. And then thank you, Heli, for the gold. So today I walk into my room at the pantry. And I've got like three pictures up.

I've got a Canadian tears. Cooler with gingerales in there.

Like this stuff that you would never think would ever be imagined.

Well, in New York City. And yeah, I think all of our lives have really just kind of changed forever. And we got Heli in the boys to thank for that. So, Heli, I know one question that everyone listeners, everybody want to know, is when did you know you were in the zone?

Did you feel it in the morning? Did you feel it mid game? Did you have to see a few shots first? But in the finals, when did you know like this was your game?

This was your moment to have honestly the greatest gold tenip performance?

And maybe hockey history. Yeah. Well, first, let me say about the group chat. Everyone sending a mandatory things. I got that honestly makes my career like that. Every day I see that I just get the biggest grin on my face.

I can't believe because like you guys are my peers, right? That's the most respect that you can get from from this league is the guys you play against. And yeah, so I, you know what, that's deep, that's deep, but believe or not, that day, you know you never sleep good before a big game.

You've never seen tire time.

I think at four nations, I didn't sleep in an hour. I think I just laid in bed the entire tournament. But this one, I for some reason just slept perfectly. And I woke up and as one of those like, I felt like I took a luck potion and I just woke up and I rose. I was like, I'm not nervous at all.

And I felt like every step that I took was like, "Oh, this is right. This is perfect. This is the exact where I need to be." So I woke up that day and I was like, "Something good happened. Like, something is in the air today." "Something's happened."

That's unreal. That's unreal. I'm not looking back at it. I'm like, "No, I know Bray, we'll go to like five a.m. I'm going to pick up like piss break in a middle night.

He's doing like hip stretches as back season up.

I'm like, "Oh, it's really different from the feeling of the old one." I had a whole different thing. I was hoping like, I was going to wake him up. So I could like talk to him about it. Because I was like, "Get our pretzel myself."

Well, man, alright. Well, at least our guy in the back there just got the best sleep was live. So I'll take that a day and I'll look at back. But I mean, this is probably the most iconic save that I've ever seen. And yes, I was on the ice for it.

From, from the iconic saves here.

This is in a third period.

But that paddle's safe. Like what? Just give us like what you saw in that play.

And like honestly, like I don't have it so fast.

Like what was your mind? Like what were you thinking about during that play? Yes, I mean, it's later in the game. So this is what I'll start with this. You know, it was legit the perfect storm for goal.

Because if you're getting blown out, that stuff goes in. You know, like everything they're going to find away. You're just going to eventually run into a situation where you can't control it. And we were playing good enough to control all the circumstances. If that makes sense, like we weren't, we weren't playing bad.

We were just giving up chances. But they're like controlled chances. So the entire game, it was like, I didn't have to make these three 10 bell saves in a row. I was like, it was probably going to be one. And then it was going to be controlled.

Everyone's going to get back in position. We're going to reset and there's pressure on everyone. Like they couldn't just sit there and pick their eyes and pick a spot. You know, like it was, it had to happen quick. And then that's where the predictability comes in.

And that's huge for bowling. But in that moment, like I remember watching, I believe it was Martin or Walker round. And as he's walking around, I'm following him.

And I just see, taste like just kind of open up and get open.

And as he's walking around, I got about halfway through my push. I'm like, he's passing this for sure. If he hasn't shot there, it's, it's a pass for sure. And then he got through the screen and passed. And I had, I had my edge at that point.

So I was kind of predicting it. And I slid over. And he got the, he got the back door touch on it. And it went right into my toe. And I didn't feel it where I was expecting the feel on my toe.

It was like mid-skate, not toe, because toe sends it out. Mid-skate sends it right back to him.

So the second I felt that was like, I need something over there.

I know I'm not there. So it was like immediate reaction like throw something there. And then like out of your peripherals as a goalie. I mean, I'm sure you guys have this all the time too. You just see some of my peripherals and you just go on it.

Right? And that, that was exactly the scenario. I was like, I saw the line of the stick, kind of, and then my peripherals like get something there. And you know, it's, I mean, you even see it as a save.

And for a second, I didn't know what to say. I wasn't on a bench. I swear to God, Ellie, I thought he missed it. I'm like, I can't believe he just missed the net, like across the brain. I'm going to go on a bench.

I'm going to go on a bench. I swear to God, Ellie, I thought he missed it. I'm like, I can't believe he just missed the net, like across the brain. I'm going to go on a bench. I'm going to go on a bench.

I'm like, steak. That will go on in history is literally one of the biggest pieces of hockey history. So I have a year. Do you rather?

I have a stick in my house right now. Do you rather? I don't believe there's a mark on it, but sure. Okay. Give me 20 seconds here.

What a fucking legend. Legend. He's like stick handling every night with it. I love that. You go upstairs.

Yeah. This is fucking good. I love that. Well, we had to see the two puck marks one from your apple and one from the panel. This is a stick, right?

That's the thing. I remember looking at this mark right here. I looked at that after the second one. Is this broken or don't you worry about that? And then I flip it over.

I mean, is that not where the puck hit like right here?

Oh, my God. I'm unbelievable. It's like the Mona Lisa. Yeah. I mean, it's either that one right there or this one.

I believe it's this one because I got that so clean. Yeah. That was like, do me a favor through that stick and a safe and never show anybody that stick ever again until it's time. Yeah. We'll give you.

I already released this to put in the back. Oh, man. This sticks. It's going on my wall. That's where you bring that stick to all of those sticks going in there.

I will say I might frame that picture. Yeah. I already got already bought the shirt on like off or I had my wife get off like fanatics or something on Instagram. Every single shirt I see. I send her the link.

Like I probably have 10 to 12 shirts coming to the house and Florida here soon. All the shirts and that is whatever.

I will say I do apologize though because I am always the first guy in the golly hug after an OT when I was there with you after quins.

OT and Sweden.

Oh. Things just got carried away for Jacks. I didn't do it. I didn't do it. I'm so mad afterwards.

I pride myself on being the first to give you a hug.

So I read after that. I tried to be one of the first you after that. But just give us your thoughts on rate when that puck went in and when you realize it went in. Because I know being on the bench. We didn't like we had to do like a double take at the start to make sure that actually went in and we wanted.

What was your did you have to take a second or who did you hug first?

What did you say first? What was the embrace like with the teammates? Because I don't breathe and I talked about literally the highlight of my life. I'm kind of similar to you guys. It took me a second and I hadn't had one something like that in a while.

So I completely forgot about ripping the gear off and shunk it in and going nuts. I kind of just started mows you now and I was kind of like just watching everything happen watching everyone come together. I'm like, oh my god, we just want it. Like it took a second. I double took on the puck.

I was like, yeah, that's definitely the net. And then I watched everyone going ripping over a jacket and like, oh my god, what do I do? What are you saying? I was like Ricky Bobby, what I do in my hand. I thought it's Rose coming out of me and I was like,

and he started ripping his gear on like, oh my god, I got to do it. Like, well, it's locked in. So I'm trying to get my glove off. So I can rip it before I get to me and I started just ripping things off my face. So I was like, this is crazy.

The rest. I mean, we just all just came together. It's unbelievable. Oh man, it's like almost like time stopped. It was so weird.

And like, I'll never forget those five minutes.

Just black down. I've no idea what happened.

But like you, it was almost like five minutes felt like five hours on the ice.

And I'm like, all right. Let's get the metals going here soon. But it was so fucking cool. Yeah. Like you know what?

Like I know, I don't want to speak about half. Like it's still didn't feel real until we got back to Miami. And then the helicopters everywhere, the cops, like the police ass cords, like I love the joke and the bus. We're getting sick of the police ass cords here.

Closing down the bridge, the freeway and the bridge. Just so we can get out and take a picture from South Beach to Miami. That's just nuts. I don't know. I was like, even we were on the ice.

Yeah, I felt kind of back as like we were just living it up. And those guys had to just sit there and... It's only 20 minutes. Yeah. And you know, I feel bad in that moment.

But I mean, we were taking the flag around. We're going for labs and like... There's no one tells you though. If you win, you better take the flag. You go for a lap.

You better hug your brothers. No. We just kind of like did that. And then one after another. Like, oh, yeah, I want to do that too.

I'm going to go do that. Oh, wait. If we're going to go hang out with those guys. I don't think all those guys feel a little bad. We're just like, hit every check mark in our time.

No. No. We're like, give us five minutes. It's five more laps. One more lap.

One more lap here. Come on. Oh, man. I've got to ask. You know, go to the families.

And then it's not one guy went to his family. It's like, everyone. I don't know where they're slapping hands. Grabbing their family. Taking pictures.

Like, I'm just a small bit. So sick. I got a little too part of for you about both the celebration. So we're going to... We're going to fast.

We're actually... Let's go to this one first real quick. We go to the winter house after all the friends and family are there. We walk in me and Brady carry you and you're not 160 pounds like Jeff. First of all.

I will throw that out there. But it was still...

It was still fucking amazing for us to do that.

It was so sick.

I think that's when I first realized how different this is.

Like, the reactions like walking off the bus. People waiting outside walking in. Like, who... Who was the first person that you said hi to there? Like, what was the embrace like with your family?

I know it's like obviously takes a village. And being at the Olympics, I don't breathe. And I, like, we saw the family, but we didn't really get to a whole lot. Like, what was that embrace like after, like, finally capturing... Like, for us, obviously it's a dream.

Like, we think about this all the time 24/7. Like, what was that embrace like? Yeah, yeah, that was... I mean, you guys just made me feel on top of the world. And...

But first of all, like, how can I make these guys feel as good as they're making me right now? The amount of speeches you threw at me? That I was not... But... Like...

That was my second partner. I don't know why. They can be just pole things out of thin air. But it's weird those moments like it's already known the same. But...

You just got thrown in these speeches at me, and... You know, just being there with you guys and celebrating, it was just like... Like, I don't know if you could draw up a better team, like, for, like... Come together within two weeks and just...

Being as tight as we were. I mean, I know some of you guys have all played together growing up. But me and not being in that circle... And still feeling so embrace and so welcomed. Like, I walk in there without skipping a beat.

Without that, like, awkward, oh, I gotta get to know guys feeling. It was just like... Right from the get-go, I was like, oh, we're boys no matter what.

That's a special feeling.

You don't get that everywhere. You don't get that in every locker room. So... After I was like, I know I'm going in there with my brothers. You know, that's just the greatest feeling you can have.

Everyone's got your back, you got everyone else's back. And we're going to celebrate this together. But there's no awkward moments, there's no... What do we do now with? Where are on the same mindset?

I love it. I love it. Yeah. You've done speech at me, and then I had to go see my wife. Almost shut a tear and talking about, like, can we...

Can you believe what just happened? Like, this is gonna change your life forever.

Yeah, that was... that was... I would say you're second most iconic speech

of the celebration, number one, though. 11. Just an iconic... Iconics speech with the cowway head on. What did you think we won't get into that night necessarily?

But just all of the celebrations that came from it. A couple of speeches there, you had another one at the White House. You got acknowledged, like, at the state of the union. Like, well, we'll get into the state of the union and what metal you're gonna be awarded here in the sack.

But just talk about all the celebrations, what your favorite part of everything was, those three days.

Like, to me, I'll never forget those three days for the rest of my life.

And nobody, if they didn't see the videos, would believe what we did. No, no, they wouldn't. Did you put that together, by the way? I love it.

Yeah, definitely. I definitely did the Miami. Yes. I did the Miami. I don't know how you figured that out so quick.

'Cause it was like, "Yes, today we're supposed to win in New York. And now today we're in Miami. It's the biggest party I've ever been a part of my family. We're just walking in there. And I mean, you could have said anything.

Literally anything that could have went nuts. But my name is Connor Hullabugra! [laughter] But these guys, I mean, they were so pumped at the club. Like, the best part, I think, is we're on that stage.

This is a little center stage for people who don't know the Levin. I mean, it's probably the size of two of you laying down. You know? [laughter] We're all squished on this plate.

But we're going to rock there. Going around, slapping hands. We had a crowd surfer with, oh, we were signing autographs. You know, we had just pouring champagne down people's roads. We wanted a piece of it, like, that moment.

I don't think I'll ever experience another party like that. Although, you said, standing a couple parts of it kind of like that too. But I don't know. I don't know. That was pretty, I don't know.

That was pretty friggin' electric. I don't know if we'll ever see anything like that.

Quater, I know you wanted to ask him the second last question.

So far away, fellow.

I think the, you know, for me, what did Team USA on the ice do?

And off the ice, like, that made it your life a little bit easier as well. Like, throughout the entire tournament, because you guys were so close. So, do you have any moments for an on the ice? They did this for me and off the ice. They just kept it loose for me.

Yeah, you know, I had some good talks with box or golly coach. Like, you came in and I don't necessarily let people in my bubble really easily. You came in and just started building trust on me right away. And, I felt pretty open to like, talk, goaltending with them. You know, not so many people you can actually talk goaltending with.

And they get you and they get your game. And I felt like that he had actually, like, studied me and started to really... pick up on my game and really kind of growled with me. So that was a cool moment, but, you know, I think the best part is like, we're going into these Olympic games. And I know everyone's given their a plus game.

So I can go into every single game and just continue to build and get a little bit better every single day. And that's one of the things we talked about. It's like, you guys made my life so easy throughout, I don't know, around robbing games. That it wasn't like, I have to be perfect today. Well, I just need to build my structure exactly where I want to.

And obviously we have the initial season going on. But like, the Olympics are a little different. You just have different feelings, different emotions. And you know, sometimes we're going to call them, use them, harness them. And, you know, being able to just play behind you guys and see how much easier by game was going to be.

It allowed me to build something even better. Yeah, I mean, we, I know as players, we literally could have played with no scape. It's on and been confident that we're going to win the game. I'm having you back there. Like we win in every single game.

Like there, there should be no worry about the basketball in the world right there. Any mistake, like any breakdown. Like we have held, we are fine.

I remember you made a lengthy turn over in the first.

It was a one time or a slap shot from one of the, I think it was the right D.

And it was through a screen and I had a perfect view from the bench. And I don't know if you saw it last second or saw it at the start. But there was a part of it where you weren't able to see it at all.

You just stuck the glove out there.

Made the save and just grabbed the puck, stuck there, gave it to the blindsman. I was like, boys, like this is, this is fucking special right now. We are taking full advantage of this right now tonight. We can do whatever we got. We got, we got one, this might be enough.

Like this might be enough to win this right now. And that was a hell of a feeling. So again, thank you, Halle. But before Brady gives the last question, the way man of the week question. Just want to say, one of my favorite memories with you and the Olympics.

And nothing to do with on the ice, it was the card games off.

You're always a very reliable, seven up player poker player.

And you don't think I've paid you yet for the poker games. I don't think I've been paid for one of these. I won't be setting those text out right after this. That's hilarious. But you're always reliable.

I remember you said something that made me piss my pants laughing.

I think it was after either the Denmark or Germany game.

And you were like, boys, I don't know if I could play cards tonight. And we're like, come on, Halle. Like we got one game at us. You're like, I've been up for 21 straight hours. But I will play with you guys.

So you're the best. And then you got roasted. That was a tough show. It's a tough show. It fitted some of the minuses.

But I just want to say, Halle, you're one of the best to do it. Brother, a hell of a teammate. And obviously, obviously, we're linked together forever. Because of your performance. So we'd love you, brother, Brady.

You got the last question, fellow. Last question here. So we do a segment with our podcast. It's, we call it the wingman of the week.

And it's something that either had an amazing week.

Performance wise or somebody that really helped us. No, throughout the week.

And so for you, we want to ask you the question of who has been your wingman of either this week or of your whole career.

That's something that has really helped you along the way. Could be something like youth hockey, fucking NHL. You don't need to keep on our last one. We kind of threw it. We kind of throw a major curveball at the end.

Just to get you going. Yeah. Oh, wow. I mean, there's so many people. I feel like if I say one, I'm going to be missing so many.

That's totally okay. That's what this question is good for. You got a lot of angry people texting you. Yeah, for sure. Okay.

I will send a couple shout outs Randy Adam Ray. Love you guys. You guys have been with me from the start, but Joe Clark on the single him out here. You guys don't know his name. You was someone I met in June years and kind of helped me develop my mental game.

And I've been close with him ever since. Like we see each other at least a couple times a year. Anytime that I'm feeling down or I'm feeling like my game's not in the right spot. He's the first guy I call. He's the one that watches me silently and those exactly where I'm at.

The second I call like he's just so tuned in. And, you know, I wouldn't be where I am today without him. So, you know, my shout out is the Joe Clarkus. You know, I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am today without you. Fucking right.

Fucking right. You know, that's a joke. That's a joke. I ain't quite ready. No.

That's a funny. That's how I say. Howly, thank you so much. This is, this is awesome. Like Matty said, "Did I love playing with you?"

You're the best. Give me a second to just tell you what you guys met to me. Like fucking, not give you a moment. Time you need here probably. Yeah.

Take your time with this one. Because you guys are sitting over here and tell me I'm great. But, you know, people need to hear how great you guys were. Obviously everyone saw how great you were on the ice. But off the ice in the locker room, keeping it light,

keeping guys engaged, focused like the team camaraderie. That, not only will be the most fun tournament that we will probably ever play,

but I think you guys brought this element to the locker room.

That was just bar none. That you just, you cannot replicate. You cannot tell, you can't go and tell a team do that. Because you either have it or you don't. And you guys have it.

So as much as I appreciate what you did from me on the ice. And if you're a goal, you understand when I say things like being able to see the puck 24/7 that makes the world of a difference. And being able to predict what's going to come back and trust the guy next to you, that he's going to clear out any problem that you have.

Not only does it eliminate any fear of making mistakes, but it just makes you so more dialed in and more tuned in. So I appreciate that.

But all the ice, like, car games, you're never telling me now.

I'm telling you a playing car, they are. We're playing one. We're playing one. How about the now hours that we spent the dining hall? The iconic.

My butt was planted in a suit for at least six hours a day.

I was there.

I'll be the first to wake up.

And I'll just be sitting there waiting. I was like, I know Brady's coming in. I don't have to leave. I'm going to be awkward. He's going to come up.

He's going to hang out with me.

And then post game going in there for lava case.

You guys had that whole dining hall, like, set up in your pocket. You had lava case coming out. The second we walked through the door. Like, the things that that does for a team when they're going in, like, after games celebrating the set of everyone,

just going to separate ways and relaxing that word. Getting even tighter. You know, where we're getting. You know, that, that camaraderie that. You know, most teams probably don't get.

You might say you got some, but to that level. No, that's just, that's just next level. So I really appreciate the people you are and I love you guys too. All we love you. That was.

Fuck it out. That was a little show. It was a little show. I brought it to my head through the wall right now. I missed the good old days.

I don't know. I don't know. We followed you past. But yeah. No way.

You're the fucking absolute man. I already looked forward to the world cup. I wish it was next weekend. We've got to wait a couple years. But we love you.

And we appreciate you coming on.

First ever current hockey player.

No better person and player than have. And you, Holly. So you're the best brother. We appreciate it. Yeah.

No problem. Break the silence with you guys. It's things are starting to roll now. Come on. Love it.

He really is. I thought he put on a performance out of 11 with his speech. But he's also right. He could have said literally the sky is blue and got familiar standing out. He could have said my percentage from last episode.

You know, like the game 7 whoever scores first, the 60%. People like that's wrong. But that was awesome. That was awesome. That was a hell of, I mean, I'm not going to lie boys.

I don't really know how we get better with a current player than that one. I don't think we can ever. I mean, he's literally the MVP. I know he wasn't the actual one. But in our eyes, he was by far the MVP of the Olympic.

Our most important player and one of the best players in the league.

And for him to come on and be that unreal and to give us all the insides there. Fucking epic epic. I just wish we got a little bit into how many laps he's taking on the bus before games. Because I saw when the presidential freedom or. But we'll get to that party when we get there.

Yeah, there's, yeah, so I had to not to jump not to speak for him. But he was given the presidential Medal of freedom. Right. That's what it was, right? Yeah.

And like, was he was beyond shocked and we're like, "Hellie, like, stop it.

Did you not just see what you just did?

And we basically just forced his hand.

But like, "Hey, hello, you are inviting all of us.

I don't know what I don't care what you say. We are all coming. We're all celebrating. It's like the, it's the highest civilian honor to give. And I saw the athletes that they gave it to.

It's Jack Nicholas as a guy. Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron. I think Gary players, one of them. He's the first hockey player that I saw. Huge.

Like, there's just some insane names that you're like, Holy cow, like, you're a part of that crew. Like, the most famous names in all sports. So that was, that was, I will be, I will say this though.

She was in front of me to shake Mr. President's hand. And then it stopped. It delayed. I caught, like, in the middle. And then the whole speech about the,

the, given him the award. And then I was like, "So do I go up right after this?" So they, I think we don't, that's a tough one. No, sorry guys.

Keep going, keep going. I'll bring the caboose back. Hey, we're back. We're back. We're the one of the best segments going.

Ever, to get shocked, triple threat. Everyone with. Or unlike this five ten part or a part of that. We're just going to continue and ride while the iron's hot. Right.

A strike while the iron's hot, my friend. Straight ahead. We strike it. We strike it. So we're going to go with our top three stories from the Olympic village.

Like our top three like favorite moments or just like stories in general. Stories of favorite moments. Just kind of like, I, you had to go with your favorite stories. Your favorite moments in that place. Done.

This is easy for me. I'm just going to write off the top of my head first thing. The first thing I think about. Number one, hot stove every single night. Me and you in three out two with the huge brothers.

And epic conversations. Epic pre-scouts talking about the day. What we're going to do the next day.

Honestly, just like two sets of brothers, the golden brothers.

Hang it out having the time of our lives. It was awesome. We'll never forget that.

Number two was always 10 PM the night before the games.

That text I would get from Austin, Captain, awesome man. He would send out a text at 10 PM the night before every game of video. Maybe not we're not going to show. We're not going to show that's secret. That's secret stuff.

That's, that's, that's you had to be there to know it. That's in the vault. But he would send a video of larks the night before every single game in the outfit of what we are wearing for the game the next day. Which was weird though, because larks would be wearing Austin's clothes. Again, it never really understood that the mix up there.

That was amazing. Number three, I did this way more than you. I was a pin trader. Bye far. And I don't want to say I was the best.

I came out of the gates. Absolutely hot. And you know this. It was a three horse race and it was a three horse race. It was a clear as day three horse race.

And some of the pins you guys collected were unbelievable. And I loved the inner competition to be the best, too. That's what made our team so great.

Here's what I felt too in that situation.

Me and larks, I came out of the gate. Way like, yeah, you said a ton. Set the tone. Set the tone. I even got like a second bag of pins from fish and timber and bridge.

Don't tell anybody. But that was, that was cheap. There are the goats. There are the goats of the best. Takes a village.

And then the larks started seeing me like start to trend a little. But pick up some steam and like saw some of my pins. And he like became kind of a man of the village for like a few days. Like started to really take over. And then I'll tell you what.

Nelly in the last leg. But that last stretch. He took over. You. You know what you do at the moment of him taking over.

There's when I saw the pins on his landyard. Oh, stop. And I saw that. I knew. I knew.

He's from a different brand. He was he was in the weeds. He was getting shit done. And shit done. And those top three.

And I have to. I might have to give Nelly the number one. Because he. She came out of the gates and just was hovering. He was feeling about.

I'm hiding. I hate the weed. This is just slow and control. He was playing low and slow. And just that's special.

He played a special brand. I remember he got maybe a can you one.

Yeah, I don't know why I think about it.

It was Kenya because I was like, oh, man, you got that one. Like, that's awesome. But yeah, he definitely. I got a little content there in the middle. And I was like, all right.

This is getting easier to get to the end. But yes, you did. And then I see Nelly come out. And he almost pushed me to be better penetrator.

So always appreciate Nelly.

But those are my top three right there. Brie hot souls with the hugless boys. The video of the outfits before every single game. The night before and three penetrating mainly with Larks and Nelly. So lots of fun.

What are your top three memories or moments from the village that you always ...

Well, I'm going to try to not do yours because those are some unbelievable memories.

So there's there truly are special.

And we have to do some dining hall ones.

It's just my favorite. One of my favorite was post Germany game when we had beers down in the dining hall. And Evan Bates was coming down on the elevator. As we're going to grab the beer is coming down. And so Brie to explain explain that that moment.

So we're going down from fourth three to the lobby of our building. And he was coming down from like floor five and picked us up in the way. Correct. Just explain this. It's really fun a little bit.

Yeah. So the so the elevator's open and he's standing there. And this is one thirty. The morning surgames are so late and she we just made eye context. I was like, where are you off to?

It's like dining hall for little little snack and starving. And there's like two back to beers. And I said, having beers on the dining hall meet you in there. You're sitting with us. So to the point is we sat there eight.

The meal was still up until one thirty. We ate and then just had beers open.

And I just loved how the definition of have one.

Stay for two home by three. And I think it went back up. Yes. One back up to his room. At three thirty.

I just saw on the next day. I said, I would love to have known your conversation with your wife. Who is his partner and the figure state and competitions there. They're they were in five Olympics together.

And they're amazing people and I just said on the next.

I said, I would love to know your conversation with your wife. When you said you're going for a snack at one thirty. And then you didn't show up until three thirty. Just crushed. I just thought having that like just get to meet other athletes and get to meet him was

He's a great guy. And that was store number one. That I thought was awesome. Store number two. Another dining hall story.

But this is after we won gold. We went to our Olympic winner house and came back. I know I left. I had to leave Matthew because I'm like, I'm starving. I haven't eaten all day.

And then we had to get beers at the dining hall. But sat down. There's like four or five guys left just before me just sit there. And then a bunch of lava cakes on the table. And so I went go win eight.

And then all of a sudden you see the women's team coming back from the closing ceremony. Because it was an hour and a half train. And so they went to that. And by the time they that finished up our game, our celebrations are over. So at the end there is our men's team and their women's team with our gold medals.

Just talking about how we just went to for two. For kind of the leaders of of the game right now where the champs and how special that was. And and it was just pretty cool to just see two gold medal teams. Of course, both American teams and and I was fine. Before we got on the bus to go back to the airport.

So that I thought that was awesome. That was so much fun. That was like the best cherry on top night. That was perfect. It was just a perfect ending just to be able to share that and celebrate and be winners.

Be winners together was was pretty special, but by third one.

It doesn't quite involve the village. It does. I'm just tying it all together. Where was every single bus trip. Back to it from the right to it everywhere.

Just being on the bus of the boys, the amount of. Give us a visual of the bus who was sitting where give us the, give us the back there bus. Yeah. So the European buses. I wish there is more European buses.

Because just the set up like they have, you know, the US buses. They have just the front staircase. Well, the European ones have a staircase ran up the middle.

So to the left, there's I think six rows.

And the back row is just five right across five seats. So I'll start from the back to the front back left. It was large middle was honey. I was back right. And front of me, milzy and front of him.

Trote in front of him. Michael was he was back there. He was back there. Because he likes. Trote.

Yeah. And then on the left was Matthew Austin Charlie Quinn. Quinn. And then. But it just did and then hell.

He was in front of him. But no, it's so helly then Quinn. Yeah. And then yeah, all just the whole time rate on that. We stepped on the bus.

I had my music out. And every time to the morning. For morning skate was like country and just more to give us some artists. Give us some artists or some songs. If you'd like to have a morning.

Yeah, like sack brine came on a bunch. I feel like the fray came on a lot in the morning. Yeah, they did it. It was a fleet with Mac radio. So they came on, you know, iris, Google dolls.

Like all the good tunes. Like feel good almost sing along. And then rate when we got on that bus for game time is when the heavy stuff came out.

I was playing the start like war pigs black Sabbath.

Those playing poison, Metallica. No easy way. Yeah. Rocky for Rocky.

Like there's just I just and then like I'm not a superstitious guy.

They're starting to become a little superstitions in there. I was playing kids. Oh, I was doing it was weird. I'm not a superstitious guy at all. Wait.

Wait, thanks. Do we forget something? Some of my life. I had, I had like, I just had different things that walked everything. So I go to my board.

I'm not going to say it. We're not going to say it. But let's just laugh about it real quick. Wait, wait, wait. It's not the bus.

We saw that. Oh, oh. It's not the bus. Otherwise. All right, that's it.

Okay.

We can't get to the second part of the boat.

But that was the footage. Yeah. And my three favorite memories from being in the Olympic village was Bates in the boys, beers at Bates. That's one.

Two. Dining Hall after our gold medal game with two championship teams. And then three every bus ride. The best. Hell of a top three, Brady.

Why don't we move a little bit into a little new segment, Brady?

We're going to call this maybe after math. What's been going on post Olympics? Got a hell of a out for the first time. Special. Special.

You'll be everywhere. Two guys that are everywhere. So good for hockey. So good for our game. And honestly, love seeing them everywhere.

Because they're two of the funniest mother fuckers ever. Greatest kids. Matchy playing Jack. Um. Here are my next game in Jersey.

Uh, so excited for that. I feel like I've been seeing them forever. Have a seat. You guys are forever. Have a seat.

Remember? I don't remember anything for that. I remember the second half of the gold brothers. Oh, man, they're just literally the biggest legends ever. And they are the other half of the golden brothers.

They truly are the huge brothers. What an appearance on SNL. They had the other. That is NHL. SNL is NHL.

Um. What did you make of that? I think Quator gave us a little stat on the side earlier. But he said that's the first NHL athlete since 04. Do you think this is great from the game?

I know. I watch Saturday at live. I know everybody wants to Saturday. But how good do you think that is for them for our team for hockey general?

I think it is the best thing for our game.

And like you said, it couldn't be too better guys. Just not just like them as individuals. It's just the recognition that, you know, they deserve of being two of the best of the best in the NHL with two of the biggest goals. And USA hockey, the last 46 years.

We aren't forgetting about quans. Well, we aren't. People have.

But we will never forget the relief when he scored.

And then shooting it in the room after it's like 4 a.m. That was another one. That was unbelievable. But I think it's the best thing just for those two. And for the game itself where, you know,

it's, and now you just keep seeing how many people were tuned in. Like I just saw Aaron Judge talking about the boys group chat. And then going carrying in to the baseball classic there. That, you know, the honor it is to represent the red white and blue. And how they felt that through us.

And I feel like that's the biggest honor of it all that. For other athletes to take motivation off us and our team. And how we represent in ourselves and how we're. Out the unity that we showed and just how we want to do whatever it takes for our country. I think that's such an amazing.

I guess, feel in to see that other people recognize that. But I mean, just what they're doing they're two of. Just two a-lissers now. They're a-lissers. It's a-lissers.

A plus-lissers. And joining and joining those a plus-lissers. Pretty. Think the first two female hockey players ever on SNL. And now Megan Keller, Hillary and I.

What? And a pause. They had going out so well deserved. For a fall. Megan's goal was low.

The massiest goal ever. I've been reaction in the treatment room. For action in the treatment room. For action in the treatment room. From us 15 guys like getting up hugging like we just like.

Literally one goal that ourselves was another highlight of the village. Can't believe that wasn't in one of our top three. That's actually pretty shocking. Yeah. But those girls are awesome.

They're so great for that team. I mean, the two leaders, one four, one to another. A huge goal, though, to tie a play.

You're always talking about the nighters.

Cool. At the record breaking goal. Point like that was the biggest. I couldn't, you couldn't draw it up any better. It's crazy.

But I'm so happy for those two as well. I'm very happy for the recognition that their teams got in. Because from what I've seen by far is by far maybe like crazy thing to say. I don't think so.

The most dominant start to finish performance.

They don't lump it games from their team.

They were such a wagon.

So I'm so happy for the girls that they're able to.

I'm happy for the boys that they're able to share it with the girls and vice versa. Because that is so cool that those four were able to go to on an SNL. That's like a dream for people watching TV growing up. It's like SNL was like a mecca. So so cool.

So great for both hockey. And we loved that. So we love watching. I know I didn't stay up for it live. But I saw it on the morning.

So I thought that was very cool. I wanted to ask you this and where we might go a little off top. But you brought up Aaron judge. You brought up the WBC USA team. I just want to get your thoughts on.

This is one thing I'm really proud about. With our team is we almost. I don't want to say made because it's not. It's not that other teams weren't. Like the every team every player that's represented our country does with such pride.

Obviously, but I think what our team did is showed like how cool it is to be American and how cool it is to wear the red white and blue and how like special it is and how like patriotic it is and what an honor it is.

And now I'm like watching these baseball players that I've only met one or two of them and they're saying and acting and doing all the same things. We are it's like almost like our team like kind of initiated this with all the other sports like. Don't know guys like there's nothing more special than wearing the red white and blue plane for your country. And now I'm seeing this baseball team and now I'm like I'm glued to everything they're saying. I'm watching the practice is on Twitter.

I'm like watching all their interviews. Like I'm the biggest fan of their team now like Paul schemes and Aaron judge and you know Bryce Harper. Like these three like I'm like I cannot wait till I want to meet them all like tomorrow. I'm going to play golf with these guys. So I just want to hear your thoughts.

I think our team had a big part of that and like making playing for the United States like it's fucking cool. And you got to do with such great honor.

Yeah, it's first year it's the biggest honor because you're playing for and I think we show that you're not just playing for the guys in the room.

You're truly playing for the village that brought you there.

You're playing for all the troops, every all the first responders everybody that just keeps us safe.

And that was our way of showing that we're going to give you absolutely everything we have for those for those people. And when in gold was was for them and forgiven us that opportunity to represent them. So I think it's just like for me it's whenever there's a US event now like I'm locked in. Like I it just takes back to that feeling of being able to represent all the people that got you there, all the people in the US, all the people that support you. And and just to see how that's kind of radiated off to the baseball guys now like I'm going to be locked in.

I'm going to be locked in it's going to be such a cool to see the best on best country versus country like just the pride of everybody representing their country like there's their legit is no better feeling. Then playing and representing your country and playing for something way bigger than yourself and playing for the millions of people back home that. Some might not be hockey fans, some might have no idea who you are, but they have that sense of feeling that. I'm being represented by guys who are going to do whatever things I love it could not have said it any better yourself.

Let's move on here, Brady. Let's move on here a little a little segue here. We have a big week in hockey coming up deadline week and none of us, none of us have been deadline guys, but no guys move all the time in this segment. By the way, it's going to be brought to you by tax act deadlines are approaching soon even trade deadlines and oh boy can they get stressful fortunately I should say not unfortunately we haven't been on that side the stressful side but I know it's a stressful time. I know it's a crazy time for probably both of our teams.

I just want to give like a little bit of a background so most trade deadlines I would say. So there's 32 teams in the league. I would say 10 teams probably go for it pretty 8 to 10 like they're like, this could be our year where we're going for it going for it going for it. No offense. I know you haven't been necessarily in that position a lot of times in your career. No offense. I'm not taking but I've been fortunate to be on a few teams like that.

Like the last two years, we have gone for a gone for it. The first year picked up Vladiter Sanko, Oki, Kyle Poso last year, Jonesy, Marshy, Stormy.

But I want to give like a little background in a deadline story. So for example, Marshy. So I'm actually overseas during some of my recovery stuff last year and obviously time changes like deadlines approaching and everything's quiet. Like nothing's coming on Twitter and like I'm not texting anybody on the team be like, hey, give me some updates like what are we doing? Like I'm the last guy that's going to do that. So like I get all my news on Twitter like the normal fan.

Everything's like done.

And then the next alert is hearing Florida Panthers and I'm like holy shit. There's no way. Like there's no way we're trading with the Bruins who are like our rivals. We beat them the last two years. We're not there's no way we're going to take their captain from them. And sure enough, like our group chat starts flying around and everyone's like, did we just trade from Marshy? Has anybody heard anybody heard it? And then it was past the deadlines. So they must have put it in, but it hasn't been approved yet because I think at the trade deadline you put it on all your trades and it's like almost in a queue.

And then once they're done with one, they approved the max. So it doesn't happen right away.

And so there was probably like a 30 minute weird period where we didn't know what was going on or not. So our group chat, we had like a group chat like four or five us on the team. And it was like our poker chat and they're like, did we just trade from Marsh on? And I was like, yeah, you guys didn't hear it was for Lucy, fuck with I say, I don't want to screw this up, but I think I said like, Lucy Samo in a second or like sometimes just fucking, Lucy Samo in a first completely made it up put the phone away and just went for my afternoon now.

I was just didn't get a little fun. And then I went up a few hours later to like nonsense on my phone like people like no way like, oh my god, like somebody called Barkey and Barkey was like, it was just like it was it all happened like it all went through like crazy phone tag happening afterwards. So I remember that and then I remember getting back to getting back to Florida and seeing Marshy.

We were actually rehabbing together because he didn't come play right away. Just hanging out with him off the ice. A great guy was so great to all the teammates kept it light.

Just one of the best guys ever in the room. So great to the trainers, such a vet that's been around, done that, done it at such a high level, 100 point guys, Stanley Cup. Like check to literally every box winner winner everywhere he's played. So we were so lucky to get him. I knew once we got him in Jones, he like, we are repeating and let's something crazy happened. We are repeating, but obviously our team before we get into your team, our team, because a lot of people have been asking on the pod.

What they think coming up this time of the week, I mean, we're definitely in a different position now than we were last year standing wise. I mean, let's face it. We're not in the world's greatest spot.

Right now, I think we're 8 to 10 points out. 22 games left. They project that to get into playoff. So I think you need 90. What does you need to most years 9798?

I think I think I think in the East this year, you're going to need probably 9798 points. So I think 22 games left. That's 18 and 4. That's 18 wins probably need majority and majority if not all on regulation.

So not that we haven't done it before, but highly doubt we're going to be going out there and trading all these picks or rentals.

The way of this position is right now for us, but I think it's really just up to the guys in the room. We've got guys coming back from injury, hopefully in the next little bit. And, you know, or whenever they come back, whether it's a few games, a few weeks, whatever it was, but that's guys that are in the lineup have to do a job and we got to start grinding it out and just playing as hard as we can because only we can control it now. You know, unfortunately, we got to, we got to scoreboard watch a bit, but definitely a different position than most the most years being afforded a panther. So a little bit weird territory.

Definitely not thrilled with, we're right in the standings, but can only control what you do in your next game. So what do you think that you, like for your guys, you guys are only a few points back.

I think with a game or two in hand that you wouldn't do in hand. How are you feeling with 20 games left? I do round deadline time. It's like literally the final fourth of the year. How confident are you guys?

Just how do you feel you guys have been doing and how are you doing personally? How are you feeling?

Yeah, yeah, not first. I mean, I could talk to myself. I feel no great and I feel you got the gold medal eggs right now still.

Yeah, no, I mean, obviously, but I just feel like I feel really good feeling really confident and yeah, we're five points out. I don't know what the games in hand are situation like that, but we're five points out and we've been playing some really good hockey. I think before break, we won five out of six and then coming out of break loss, no tea, big win, ball of Ontario, and we're now in the Western Canada stretcher and some big games and very important moments. And yeah, I mean, I just think for the viewers that are watching this, like there's always typical like Matt said covered one half of no buyers and rentals and trading teams for that are out of it.

To get players at either for that playoff push, maybe recent, but I know in a...

Now, we were out of it so early way before deadline and we had trade as many assets.

Two teams and try to get as many picks, prospects, players or whatever the formula was. So I kind of saw the other side of things and you see a lot of guys know coming and go and and I mean, there's been times where you trade a guy and you know, they go out and win and you're just so happy for him that you just got to like no, for example, didn't flat a terracenco example. He was on our team and Ottawa gets traded to Florida and no wins a cup. So you feel like you have like he was a huge part of it, too. Yeah.

And felt like you had like a little piece of that, no playing with him and throughout the whole year. So it's just happy for guys like that, but.

But yeah, there's always just when you're out of it, you're usually selling, you know, players.

Two teams to whatever get assets back or you're the teams buying up those players to take you over the hump. So I feel like this year that it's almost going to be different because the east is still so tight that teams are going to want to just see what happens and and stuff like that.

So I think I think what's going to end up happening right now and you could maybe think I'm wrong with this, but I think every team that things are going to make play us in the east.

It's going to go for crazy at the deadline because we're however many points back right now and they're going to just. I truly think that no team in playoffs, I think would like to play the team not I'm not saying our team, but any team that's won the last two Stanley couple like Pittsburgh in 16 and 17 nobody wanted to play them first route in 2008 like you just don't want to a team that's been there and done that. So I have a feeling that I mean, it's wide open right now and it's up to us to at least just fight our asses off to get just try to get back to this this playoff race or just get somewhere close, but it's going to take a serious run, but obviously believe in the boys we've done it before done a few years.

So we'll see if we can blow it off and I think I got two questions for you guys like when like a special math you like you win the cup or like you make a deep run right your like recovery time or off seasons like cut down.

So do you think that kind of if like if you don't make playoffs if five months off if you go to the cup you only have two to three months like does that eventually catch up to you.

And any of that throughout the season at all or no. I think the hardest part is is the the actual getting up for the games like I mean I don't care who you tell.

If you go from playing in game six down like up final or game seven stand like up final at home and to playing a preseason game and into 82 ready to see like it's you your brain is function to that game seven game six cups on the ice cups in the building feeling like it's it's challenging to take get up for all those games so I don't think physically it's very different five months of training versus the two or three months of training. Actually in fact the deeper you go the better conditions you are the better game shape you're in the better on ice you're skating more.

But when it comes to the the little wearing tear the bumps and bruises obviously you have a little bit more so that stuff's a little bit harder to recover from. So I find I found it easier last year to stay in like the game game on a shape but when it comes to wear and tear like I mean you're nobody's if you're not playing in the playoffs I mean I we've played close to 70 playoff games the last three years that's and those games are.

So that's a lot of crazy crazy hockey but there's no better hockey that you want to be in so that's why we're just like we've got 22 games left like let's just try to give ourselves a chance.

At that one more time like let's just go on a run and see what can happen but. We'll see if we have the run way for that I mean we only have 22 left so better better start or. We're going to be on the outside looking and I think that's that's pretty obviously. Obviously things are shaping out right now like unless we go on a run we're going to be on the outside looking and so got to get on one soon. Yeah and great I think too like you're you're only five points out like.

How do you keep it at loose in the locker room like you know you're just taking a game at a time like how is that feel where you're kind of like on the edge like hey we catch heat right now or. You know the goalie stays hot like we we have a serious shot at this. Yeah I mean honestly I'm just trying to make it light and you know for us we we realize we've been in this. These big games since January we knew how tight it was and how just the apps and flows of everything that it was just going to be a grind the whole year and and.

From you just keep it a light like I believe our team is unstoppable when we ...

We're doing truly our a tough team and we don't give up much and and I feel like we have a lot of threats on offense to and and.

So for us it's just believing in ourselves and doing it for full 60 and.

Just kind of taking as it goes like it's just when you say you need one like you put that like absolutely everyone you want at every time you need the points but. You know it's just sometimes you can't control the outcome like the other day we played great didn't get the two points so. Just about resetting and just doing what you can do and control control you could control is your preparation being at your best and helping the team went in and. I mean at the other day it's you're in the NHL and you're playing in some big games like just got to have fun with it.

And then join and brace it and and just enjoy every second of him. Okay, ladies and gentlemen some exciting news.

Before we make our wingmen of the week picks.

We have some exciting exciting exciting exciting news. This is why you play the game is why you play the play the podcast game for this right now. But we've been diesel are pumping like furious five fast year and five merch is here. We got merge we're present we are present.

But we got merge and it is available now at wingmen shop dot com so please go check it out.

We hand selected these supplement just feelers, but we are really excited about what we have and and I'll be rocking at daily I already have already worn the sweatshirt. Unbelievably comfy and just it's the best yet merge. It's my favorite Brady that's my favorite shirt I have right now it's my favorite hoodie I have is my favorite had I have right now, but do you want to also in a little bit of running for my second favorite shirt right now. And I'm trying to get a copy of it right now maybe the merge team could help out with this I think we need to get this that picture of me you.

Bolds and faves at 11 let's blow that picture up on some merch. I'm an excel your double things are tight right now after the trip. Early after all that boss. Well I want an excel and I want that shirt every where as well because those two were two great wingmen.

To throw out the whole term that they were they were legends old to fave so we're ready to get ready you need to get those shirts ready to get them one as well.

But Brady thank you for that update and I want you to now give us your wingmen of the week. We're just still we're only a week from getting from being in Milan and we said this all the time Brady it takes a village it takes a village so I'm nominating the whole USA it takes a village crew so we're going with all the medical guys. You're going with frosty and Teddy the two equipment guys we are going with bridge we are going with Kimber we are going with fish and my forgetting anybody right now Brady I don't think so and everybody that helped out along the way because.

People see the game they see the players they have no idea what goes on behind the scenes we had we had four medical so we had. We had uncle John we had greener we had Brett we had kev and then we had frosty we had Teddy and then we had bridge who like was honestly unbelievable we had go to fish we had Kimber like everybody took such great care of us and allowed us to just be able to. Focus play the game do our job and they handle all the stuff outside of it so those are all of my wingmen of the week I know it's a lot a lot of shirts we have to send out that is a lot of shirts, but I'm okay that's okay there on me put it on my tab but love those boys we do not win a gold medal without those guys best staff best crew and lucky to call them champions for life with us.

That is an elite crew that you took a lot of mine that I was taking a lot of options but I thought of for an individual that wasn't technically a part of our team. But he was a part of our team and he was the master of the dining hall. Simone Simone for the dining hall is my wingman of the week this guy day to Matthew introduces himself trades the pin and then all the sudden. We were somebody's favorites we were and he set us up every night 130 post game there were lava cakes after we won we had like two or three trays and we got to the Milwaukee game going to.

We got pictures we have footage this guy is a legend is this Jeff of the dini...

He had phones and yet the earpiece just barking or just walked in dab up hug and it was game on quater I recognized from the moment we got to that deal that if you want anything if you want anything off menu anything at all. Simone or Simon he goes by both he is your guy so I went out to introduce myself Matthew the Chuck here a team USA hockey would love if you had a pin the dining hall and the whole village has been amazing to us right now buttered him right up but I actually was amazing to us.

And ever since that he took right care with he's bringing us out shit that the rest of the village never saw the people are looking back and being like.

It was the one night they brought out late night lava cakes for us like fresh batch like ready to go they might even throw in and like do they throw in and draw to or I don't know if they ended up doing that or not but that was another thing we asked Simone but we're sitting next to the great Britain figure skaters and ice dancers and they're like. We're in the head like I can't believe what you guys just pulled off like how do you do it like over here enjoy one with us and then we just don't break and breath with them and just hang it out and they like it was also all conversations started so.

I remember the next day that I think they try to order it.

So that's a hell of a wingman of the week ready that's a unreal epi also just want to give one last shout out to he's secretary defense he made this epi.

What it is he's such a fucking legend so love that guy.
