Welcome to our daily rosary meditation, yesterday we explained how to do an e...
conscience and today we're going to walk you through one based on the 10 commandments, pride, and the seven deadly sins. Now I don't expect you to memorize all this information. What's the analogy, Teresa? I told you it was like I spy or there's too many things in the picture but if you know what you're looking for, if you've just got to find seven keys and two roller skates and one red button, the whole picture is a little bit simpler to look at.
“That's what we're doing here. We're going to give you a whole array of possible sins and you just pick out”
where you struggle. Let's begin in the name of the father and the son of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let's call to mind all those. We've promised to pray for. I believe in God, the father, almighty creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ. He's only son of our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered
under Pontius Pilate. It was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day,
he rose again. He ascended into heaven and he seated at the right hand of the father. He will come
“again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church,”
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life of everlasting, amen. Our father, who art in heaven, hollowed be your name. Like kingdom come, I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us a stay, our daily bread and forgive us, our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, deliver us from evil, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with the
blessed art thou among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earns now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with the blessed art thou among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earns now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with the blessed art thou among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us and earns now in the hour of our death, amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, and it's now in the world without our
end, amen. Our first mystery, as we begin this examination of conscience, we have to remember
first that there are different kinds of sins. Scripture tells us in first John chapter 5 that some sins kill our relationship with Jesus, they are mortal, and other sins harm, but don't kill the relationship. Those are venial. The catacys and teachers that for a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met. The action is grave matter. It's committed with sufficient knowledge, and it was committed freely or with deliberate consent. Now, grave matter
“is specified by the ten commandments. That's why our examination should begin with the ten”
commandments, but then we have to go on and ask what are the roots of our sins, and that takes us
to pride and the seven deadly sins. But we should always begin our examination with a prayer to the Holy
Spirit in your own words, such as Holy Spirit, convict me of my sins, not to shame me, but to bring me into the light, to lead me to repentance, and to set me free. Now, the first commandment is to worship God alone. So, have I sought my identity, happiness, security, or peace, and anything other than God? In other words, where do I give most of my time, attention, energy, and desire? Am I truly seeking God first, and above all things, or have I allowed lesser things to take
His place? Have I made an idol of success in my work, or academics, or sports, or achievements? My reputation, comfort, pleasure, money, or politics, technology, control, or even my family and kids?
Are my children, or career, or my image, or my plans, or my need to control, ...
than God? Have I lived as if everything depends on me, instead of receiving my life, my worth,
“and my peace from God? Our Father, who art and heaven, howl it would be your name,”
by kingdom come, I will be done on earth as it is, and heaven. Give us a stay, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we free of those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thal among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earn us now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with
thee, blessed, our Thal among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary,
Mother of God, pray for us and earn us now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace,
“the Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thal among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus.”
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earn us now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thal among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earn us now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thal among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earn us now in the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thal among women, blessed is a fruit of
thy womb, Jesus.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning as now
never shall be, world without end amen. All my Jesus, pray of us, our sins, save us from the fires of
hell, lead all souls to have an especially those most in need of mercy. Our second mystery, the second commandment is to honor God's name. So have I misused God's name? Have I spoken irreverently about God or the church or holy things? The third commandment, keep Sunday holy. Have I misused Mass on Sunday or holy days of obligation without a serious reason? Have I received communion? Well, conscious of graves sin. Have I treated Sunday as merely a day for catching up
“on work or have I been too consumed by sports, shopping, entertainment, things of self-indulgence?”
The fourth commandment, honor your Father and Mother. Have I honored my parents or have I neglected the elderly, fifth commandment? You shall not murder. Have I participated in, supported, encouraged, paid for or pressured someone toward the abortion? Have I voted with the intention of defending or advancing abortion as a woman's choice? Have I participated in or supported youth in Asia, assisted suicide, or the use of medication with the intention of deliberately hastening death
to eliminate suffering? Have I harbored hatred and resentment, refused forgiveness, desire to revenge or wish harm on another? Have I let sinful anger control me? Leading two harmful thoughts, words or actions, or have I caused scandal by leading others into graves sin through my example advice, silence, approval or encouragement? Or Father Wharton heaven, howl it be your name?
I kingdom come by will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation,
“but deliver us from evil eye men. Be on Mary full of grace. The Lord is with thee,”
blessed our thal among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in earth, now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary full of grace. pray for us in earth, now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed our thal among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in earth, now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed our thal among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in earth, now in the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed our thal among women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us in earth, now in the hour of our death, amen. Glory be to the Father and to the
Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, it has now never shall be,
world without end, amen. Oh, my Jesus. Forgive us, our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Let it all souls to have an especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our third mystery, the sixth commandment, you shall not commit adultery, the sixth commandment governs sexual actions. Have I committed adultery, fornication, masturbation, pornography, contraception, in beachial fertilization or artificial insemination, homosexual acts, or any sexual act
outside of God's design for marriage and family. Have I sought sexual pleasure apart from the marital act or used my body or another person rather than giving faithful life giving love? The seventh commandment, you shall not steal. This concerns justice in our outward use of money, work, property, and material goods. It forbids taking what does not belong to us, but it also includes cheating, defrauding, refusing to pay debts, wasting time at work, doing poor work,
for good pay, under paying workers, over charging, damaging property, failing to make restitution, or using what belongs to another without permission. More deeply it asks, whether I take more than I give and give less than I owe, or treat what God has entrusted to me as if it were only for myself rather than for the good of others. The eighth commandment,
“you shall not bear false witness. In other words, you must tell the truth.”
So have I lied, deceived, exaggerated, gossiped, slandered, revealed in others' faults unnecessarily. Judged rashly, spread rumors or misinformation, broken confidence, damaged another's reputation, or been lazy cowardly or indifferent in pursuing the truth. The ninth commandment, you shall not desire your neighbor's wife. The ninth commandment calls us to purify sexual desires, thoughts, motives, and interior consent. So have I entertained lustful thoughts,
fantasies, looks, desires, or motives that reduce another person to an object for my pleasure. Have I used pornography, sought sexual attention, or used another person sexually to get what I want?
Rather than loving and willing their good.
goods. The tenth commandment concerns the desire of the heart toward material goods and the blessings of
“others. It forbids envy, greed, resentment, comparison, and the restless desire to have what belongs to another.”
I may not steal outwardly, but I can still send inwardly by being bitter that someone else has more, craving another person's house, income, success, lifestyle, talents, or security, or failing to thank God for the gifts he's given me. While the seventh commandment asks whether I have acted unjustly with material goods, the tenth asks whether I have desired them in a disordered way,
instead of receiving my own gifts with gratitude and rejoicing in the gifts that God has given to others.
Our Father who art in heaven, hollowed beer name, by kingdom come, I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Eres is there, daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
“as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us”

Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to have an especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our fourth mystery, to get rid of sin, we must pull it out by the roots. And these roots are pride in the seven deadly sins, and the great spiritual masters teach
“that most of us are dominated by two or three of these. So what's at the root? Is it pride?”
Pride is every way I put myself in the place of God. It's not just arrogance or vanity. It's when I stop receiving my identity, worth, security, peace, and happiness from God, and I try to get them by my own efforts, my own control, success, reputation, we're seeking the approval of others. Pride says, I know better than God what will make me happy, or I will decide what is good and evil, or even I will seek life, peace, pleasure, security, or justice apart from God.
I'll do it my way, and then Pride gives birth to really ruinous coping mechanisms like vanity, which says, I need others to tell me I'm enough. So I chase praise, approval, attention,
Image, and reputation, or envy, which says, if you rise, I fall.
and secretly happy when they fail, or sloth, which says, holiness is too much. So I avoid daily meditation
“and the practices that result in holiness. And to all of these, the only remedy is humility.”
Humility is not thinking less of myself. It's living in the truth. The truth that God is God and I am not. And humility says, Lord, you are God. I am not. And I receive everything from you. Our Father, who art in heaven, hollowed with be your name. By kingdom come, I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us a dear daily bread and forgive us our trespasses. As we forgive those who trespass against us, and elates not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thalman. Women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thalman. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thalman. Remedy is simplicity, detachment and generosity. Delet me is not just enjoying food and drink. It's bead ruled by pleasure, or using pleasure to escape stress, boredom, sadness, or pain.
And the remedy is temperance, especially fasting. Lust is the choice to use another person sexually to get what we want. And the remedy is true love. It is to want the other person's good. And one of the best ways to overcome lust is to build real friendships where people pursue something greater than themselves
Through shared activity and good conversation.
we should not only ask what sinful thing of I done,
“but what's behind it? What deadly sin is at the root?”
Now, do not be discouraged because God does not expect you to transform yourself. Go to confession. Let Jesus, the divine physician, remove the heavy weight of guilt, and to give you his divine life to transform you. Our father, who art in heaven, will be your name. That kingdom come by will be down in earth as it is in heaven. Give us a stare, do the bread and free of us or trespasses,
as we free of those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil Imen. All my Jesus, for you, of us are sin, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to have, and especially those most in need of thy mercy. The same Michael, the Archangel, deep than us, in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God, review him, we humbly pray, and do that, oh, prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits throughout the world,
seeking the rule of souls. In the name of the Father, in the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen, I encourage you to print out the transcript and use this regularly for your examination of conscience. Teresa, what are your, what struck you? I'm not asking you to. I realized near the end of this meditation, I was like, oh, this is a difficult one to reflect on in the abstract,
“because by its nature, you should look at something and find something very objective,”
and then also think about what you could first of all about taking that to confession,
but also what can you do to change the cycle? I did have one thought, which is at least a little more constructive or abstract, which was looking at a certain spiral I tend to go down and trying to follow it back to its origin. And I think there's a lot of different things that stem from this that's trying to get people to like you.
I think a lot of different habits, even it can even spiral all the way down t...
or when you're rationalizing why this or that person doesn't like you or feeling like kicking yourself one way or another,
because you want to control how everyone perceives you.
“And when I kind of went back down that spiral, my one thought was, what can I do that's the opposite?”
And it's not, it's not trying to get people to dislike you. And actually what I thought of was, I should focus, I should shut off the spiral at its head by just trying to like people,
trying to focus on, because that already solves most of the problems that I fear, the paranoia, the panic,
but it stops focusing on the things I can't control, which is actually how people react to you. And focusing on the one thing I can control, which is my own feelings towards others and doing the right thing for them and buy them, and not focusing so much on myself, which is trying to appreciate others. That's like so what you just did is the examination of conscience, you identified some negative things you do, and then you asked the spiral asking the question about the spiral, or recognizing the spiral,
is asking, what's at the root, and you identified the root, which is vanity, and then you asked, "What's my resolution to overcome vanity?" - Exactly. - And you came up with an excellent resolution.
“That is exactly the process. - Because I think we can get scared by seeing like, it's like buckshot.”
There's all these tiny little holes, and we're like, "Where do all of these different sins come from?" But it's still one shot. - A shot. - It's still coming from one place, and it's more daunting, because you think, "Well, there's so many things and how do I fix every little habit?" But that's actually, it should be calming to think, "There's one origin. You can find one practice." - Exactly. - If you can find the origin of that spiral. And if you just find one and work on that, it will cause everything to get better. That's all connected.
So if you just really work on one thing, everything tends to get better. That was a perfect example. Can I take you one step further? - Yeah. With vanity, not only liking others, is it a way to conquer it, but most importantly, like yourself? I hesitate because part of my problem sometimes can be, you know, you work on yourself and then you like yourself, and then you expect everyone to be yourself. - No, we're going to pride. - Exactly. Sometimes you can get into a place where, yeah, it's the external thing. - What?
But if you, if so, really, though. - But being comfortable in knowing that people will respond to you no matter what, and that your value isn't in how you're perceived, you're right about that, because it's knowing not just liking yourself, but knowing that one way or another, your value is outside of yourself. It is in the fact that you were created by God. - Yeah, and he likes you. - Yeah.
“And that's the only thing you have to know on that front. - Yep. - And then again, the follow up that, then what can I do? I can love others for that same reason.”
- Really amazing. God delights in me, so I should delight in me, and I should delight in others. Fantastic conversation. Thank you.
- I was really trying to puzzle out how we'd have a conversation on this one. - Worked out pretty darn well. - Let's be apostles of friendship, good conversation, and the rosary. Share this with others.
