you've probably seen him on a screen of some sort. It's Mario Lopez, Mario, what's up, welcome. - How you doing? - Good to have you here.

- So excited to dive into your career, an amazing career, right?

You're a very modest person when I talk to you about your career, but it's a very amazing career. And what I think I admire about you is not just your career, but the well-roundedness of you. You look great, you're super fair, you've got a great family,

you're always hustling, you know?

And I want to dive into that, and how you figure all that out, because that's not easy, you know? So let's start there, like, you kind of from the outside, at least you're doing all these things so well. What's the secret?

- Well, I mean, I don't know if there's any secret. I'm very, very lucky, very blessed to be doing it. I've been doing it for a long time now, since I was a little kid. So I think I crept up on 41 years, 41, 42, my god of cold,

but it's been a while, and I just, I fell into it. It's not like I was one of those kids that wanted to get into this. Like, I want to be on TV. I didn't really necessarily have any desire,

but I fell into it, and then once I fell into it, I fell in love with it, 'cause I do love the world of entertainment and whether that's TV, film, music, whatever the case may be. And I love entertaining and hosting. So it really is like dream job.

- Yeah, and it's funny 'cause my career, like I've had four decent size companies, and I never thought I would be doing what I'm doing today. But I just kept going to the next thing, and followed them while opportunity I had,

and that kind of seems like that's your story, too. - That's exactly, there isn't really any sort of rules. I know I wanted to be in this space. I didn't have necessarily a plan other than just to kind of keep hustling and grinding and trying to create opportunities for myself,

and trying not to let the phone ring, and it seems to have worked out. - Yeah, and I love, you know, like, I moved to America in my early 20s, left everything in England, houses,

and businesses, and once two case took a risk, right?

And you didn't move quite as far, but you moved to Hollywood, you know, and you took the risk, right? A lot of people, they would have followed what I would call the normal path of life that we talked about, right, college. You took that risk, was there ever a moment

where you sat in your room, go, and what have I done? Is this gonna work out? Like, this is harder than I thought? - Yeah, there was a lot of moments, especially in my 20s, I would say, because in early 20s too, it was in Kidneymore,

but I was in quite a mature adult yet, and then I looked younger than I was, and so was tough. And for people to kind of take you serious or look at you in a different light, than what they're used to seeing you,

is something under your control. So that's the frustrating part. So I didn't want to just channel all my energy towards acting. I figured I'd do as much as I could, just within the business, whether that was getting a radio

or seeing an redundancy, or doing a play, or becoming an author, whatever the case may be, I try to fire on all cylinders. - And what would you say, someone now, they're sat watching this listening,

they have this goal, this dream, this business, this, they gotta take that risk, right?

It's always scary, that first step,

you've done so many new benches. What would you say to someone that's like, "Has it turned there, they're not pursuing that goal, "it's 'cause they're scared?" - In this particular business range,

any walk-a life? - I was very blessed 'cause I had a very support system with my family, not that they were wealthy or anything, my very blue-collar folks, but they were there. They were present, and they loved me,

They had my back, which I appreciate,

and then I ended marrying a great woman and the same thing. So I think you need some sort of, it's hard to go completely solo, but if you have people that believe in you,

whether it's friends or whoever the case may be, then that's important, they kind of keep you sharp, they keep you motivated, because there are dark times,

so you have to stay focused, and the thing with me,

I think I've always had a pretty, not only a strong work ethic,

but I've been very disciplined on what I wanted to do, whether that's in training, or whether that's in work, or whether the case may be no matter how tired I am, no matter what I've slept. I've always been pretty disciplined,

and the discipline comes consistency, and I think through consistency, you will inevitably at some point achieve any sort of success. So I think if you are passionate about it, you do really want to achieve whatever your goal is

through discipline of your consistent, and you have some people that do believe and you don't want to support you, then I think you will achieve some level of success. - Yeah, I looked at, I heard a quote like 10 years ago,

and it's always been one of my favorites now, this Plenty Cool Streetun. - It's exactly right. - And I asked you the start of this, like, what's your secret, right?

And I would say if anything like one of my secrets is, because I juggle a lot too, come to me, it's in training, and stuff, and the people asked me, it's like discipline. It's like getting up at six a.m. to train, when you don't want to train and you're busy,

and you want to train and you're busy, you know? So, how did you kind of like create discipline? 'Cause a lot of people don't have it.

- I think, I mean, I think I just learned from my dad,

he was always had a strong work ethic,

you never just hung out and watched TV in my, my dad saw you watching TV on the couch, he'd put me to work, I'd go dig a ditch, I didn't need to be digged. - I digged me dug and so I was always,

just from a little kid. - I was always kind of like busy and working, or in a class, or doing something, so I think it's just instilled in me. - Yeah. - And I'm a hyper guy too,

so I need to kind of be channeling that energy. I never get to really just kick back. - Now I have to force myself, yeah. - Even now, to like, keep back and watch TV. - Yeah, I'm the same. - That's the exact end around.

- That's kind of something free. I create a new business, so project. - Right, right, right. - Right, right. - So I'm always trying to kind of, yeah. So, you know, people ask them, why don't you slow down,

I want to play golf or something, I'm like, "No, when my body's completely broken down "and decrepit, then I'll start playing golf "and you're ready to take a little more time." - Well, well, let's talk about that.

The body, the fitness side, you know? You say that's a big party of life, right? And a key part for you and you post about it, and stuff, and you're in great shape. That's not easy, you know, like I run a big business,

you have all these ventures, and a lot of people aren't used as an excuse, right? I'm busy. - Right. - I can't get to the gym.

- Well, I always tell everyone your health

should be your top priority, 'cause if you don't have that, what good is anything else, and then you quickly realize, when you don't have it or there's an issue, that nothing else matters.

So you should prevent that as much as you can,

and that's, again, being disciplined to make it your number one priority, and that's why I get up to 6am every day, and I get the training out of the way, and that way, and it's also what we say,

I work out more for sanity than for vanity, 'cause it helps sort of clean my head, de-stress, and then I'm able to tackle whatever, and you two for the rest of the day, and the tough stuff's gone. - Do you think it helps you be more successful?

- Absolutely. It complements all aspects of my life. - Well, why, if someone's listening, and it's not a big part of that life, why does being fit healthy,

how does it help you be more successful? - You get more energy. You feel more away. You have clarity, you're more focused, gives you confidence, all the above.

- I was gonna ask that, obviously, but very well-known anyways, people know who you are, but if not, like, you mean it changes how people react to you, if you're, I think, I think when you're walking around, you carry yourself different.

I think you have a different energy. I think it's just, it's just positives all around. So I think it does nothing but help. It's probably the healthiest addition you can have. - Get, now, I want to switch more,

the family side, you've talked a lot about that support, network, and providing that, and then, but then also the things you learn from, your family and your dad, and how are you then, taking all of your success and life lessons,

is there anything you're doing with your family and bringing up your children to shape them, to be successful people? - Yeah, my kids are grown up very different than I did. Very different, fine.

If I was a kid and saw the way my kids were, I'd be like, "Who are those rich kids?" But they're grown up very different, but I'm very aware of that. So I make it a point to, they see how hard I work,

and they see how I get up early and everything I do every day. And so, they visually can see that dad's got a strong work ethic, and I'm not lazy and nor do I love them to be lazy, and I sort of take a page out of my mom's parenting book,

too, and they're involved in different activities every day, too. And now, they've got busy little schedules, and one son's working himself already, Professor. - Good, thank you.

- He's doing what I was doing at a young age, too, and so, my wife's doing an awesome job, so, so far, so good. - Good, love it. Last couple of questions, so, you know,

a lot of people listen, maybe business owners,

Right, entrepreneurs here, how do you see that the crossover

between entertainment and your career

and being successful as a business owner?

- Well, I've been fortunate enough to kind of, because of the brand awareness and stuff, either learn my name or get involved in two different business days, we just, whether that's shoe licensing,

or clothes, a pair, or any sort of product's, my name's on a bunch of different products, I don't even know, I got like, spatulas, I didn't even know I had. So, all this different stuff, and then I recently got into the smoothly business

with my sister called Fresh Monkey, which is great.

So, I've always just sort of been in tea,

been intrigued and fascinated with that world, and again, surrounding ourselves with people that are smarter than you, and have different experience, and continue to learn, and grow, and add directions,

much so can. - Yeah, and that leads me to the last question, which is about personal branding. You know, I've been in social media markets in 15 years, and helped a lot of people grow big follow-ins

and personal brands, and like I think you've done, maybe without intentions, that's a great job of doing that too, where you are now in all these ventures, right? So, how important is a personal brand to anyone listening

for your industry or in general?

- I think it's very important, I think for me, again,

I've always wanted to kind of be all American,

with a little flavor, not forgetting my culture. I never talked about politics. I don't want to alienate anyone. I don't want to give anyone a reason to turn the channel. I think I would never be so bold as to tell anyone

what to think. I think people should do what they think is best for them, their families. I'm always in the mindset, if you just work hard, stay focused, do the right thing,

the right thing should happen for you, and that's how I live my life.

- Good, love it. So, anyone listening as a wrap up? You know, I know you talked about it in the main video, but what's the one or two tips for someone to be more successful in their life?

Be disciplined, stay consistent, work hard, stay focused, do the right thing. - There you go. You heard it here. Guys, that's a wrap, I know everything's so much.

It's been a pleasure, lots of great stuff, yeah. You guys unpack that, and yeah, like I said,

props to you for having such an amazing career,

and then doing so many great things at all at once. I'll see you guys soon, take care. (upbeat music)
