President Trump told Republican lawmakers today that the war in the Middle East won't

last much longer. "We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some people.

And I think you'll see it's going to be a short term excursion."

His comments come after oil and gas prices fluctuated wildly in recent days, sending financial markets really because of the conflict. Today, the price of oil whipped from nearly $120 a barrel, the highest since 2022, backed down below $90. Meanwhile, Iran is signaling that it's prepared for a long war with the U.S. and its allies

as the conflict stretches into a tenth day, Kamal Karazi, a foreign policy adviser to the office of Iran's Supreme Leader told CNN that the country is ruling out diplomacy for now. The Iran for diplomacy anymore, because Donald Trump had been deceiving others, and not keeping it his promises.

And we experienced this in two times of negotiations that the oil we were engaged in negotiation, the instructions. Karazi says Gulf Arab countries and other U.S. allies need to pressure the U.S. into ending the war. President Trump had a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss the

war in Iran among other issues.

The exchange was the two leaders' first known conversation this year, as it appears at

Charles Mains reports from Moscow.

According to Kremlin, he knew you should call.

The phone call was initiated by Trump, who spoke with Putin for roughly an hour, which a call said the two leaders discussed the U.S. Israeli attacks on Russia's ally Iran, with Putin offering ideas for a diplomatic settlement, based on recent discussions with Gulf state monarchies. The Kremlin is condemned U.S. Israeli actions as a violation of international law, but

suggested it could leverage its ties with Tehran to negotiate an end to the fighting, which of Gulf said Trump mentioned his desire to see an end to Russia's war in Ukraine prompting the Kremlin leader to again demand concessions from Kiev. Charles Mains and PR News Moscow Artificial Intelligence firm and Thropic is suing the Trump administration for designating

the company as a supply chain risk.

His NPR's Bobby Allen reports and Thropic says the government is illegally retaliating against the company. Thropic filed two lawsuits alleging that Trump officials broke the law by placing the company on a contractor blacklist.

The company says it came after anthropic said its powerful AI programs could not be used in

lethal autonomous weapons, nor to spy on American citizens. After that, the Pentagon labelled anthropic a supply chain risk, a label typically used against foreign adversaries like China. The suits say Trump officials violated the company's free speech and exceeded the laws authority on supply chain rules.

The Pentagon would not comment on the suit. President Trump has said he will order all federal agencies to stop using anthropic's AI tool, Claude, Bobby Allen and PR News. U.S. stocks closed higher today after initially swinging downward, the Dow rose half a percent. This is NPR News.

Wyoming has instituted an abortion ban when there's a heart beat or detectable cardiac activity in several states that means a six week ban, Wyoming Public Radio's Hot Immersbock reports. Wyoming OB-GYN, Jovenina Anthony, says what amounts to a ban on abortions after six weeks

is, quote, "excruciatingly early." Women who even have mildly irregular cycles aren't necessarily going to even know their pregnant at five to six weeks. Anthony's part of a group planning to ask a district court to block the law. In January, the Wyoming Supreme Court blocked two near total abortion bans.

It said they violate residents' right to make health care decisions, which is in the Wyoming Constitution. State lawmakers say they can pass restrictions to protect the general welfare of the people, which they say includes in their words, unborn children.
