Live from NPR News in Washington, on Corva Coleman, oil markets are waiting f...

from the International Energy Agency or the IEA.

The organization could decide to release oil from petroleum stockpiles that could ease

the sudden oil shortage triggered by the war against Iran. Oil shipping is ground to a halt in the Persian Gulf, that's from where much of the world gets its oil. The British Maritime Agency says three ships have been hit in the region today, the U.S. military reports it has sunk 16 Iranian vessels that could plant mines in the water there.

The White House is clarifying President Trump's remarks about Iran and the need for its unconditional surrender to end U.S. and Israeli air strikes against that country, and Pierce Freckle Ortonia's reports. The White House has been clear about its four military objectives, but it's been less clear about the political ones.

Trump has said he would settle for nothing short of unconditional surrender, and that the U.S. needed to be part of the selection of an acceptable leader.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt told reporters Trump did not mean that literally.

When President Trump says that Iran is in a place of unconditional surrender, he's not claiming the Iranian regime is going to come out and say that themselves. She says he meant that when Iran no longer poses a credible threat to the U.S., that's when he would determine the end of U.S. operations. Franco, Ortonia's, NPR News, the White House.

A new congressional report finds that overpayments in private Medicare plans have raised the cost for all seniors in the system by billions of dollars. As NPR Salina Simmons' Duffin explains, criticism of the Medicare plans has grown in the last few years. The joint economic committee in Congress estimates that overpayments to insurance companies

that run Medicare Advantage has cost American seniors billions.

Specifically, in 2025, seniors paid 13.4 billion dollars in higher premiums for doctors'

office visits and outpatient services. More than half of those enrolled in Medicare are in one of these private plans. Republicans in Congress were along champions of the model, but bipartisan criticism has been growing, because Medicare Advantage actually costs the government about 20 percent more per person than traditional Medicare.

Salina Simmons' Duffin and PR News, Washington. A new NPR, PBS News-Marist poll finds that close to half of all American support the idea of assigning national guard troops to patrol polling places for the upcoming midterm elections. Many Americans do not realize that it is illegal for the federal government to deploy

these troops to monitor voting. President Trump has suggested that he wished that he had deployed the national guard in 2020. He's falsely claimed he won that presidential election. You're listening to NPR.

The government says consumer prices rose in February by 2.4 percent compared to the same

time a year ago. That report on annual inflation is the exact same increase that was reported in January. However, this report does not capture the sudden jumping gas prices scene since the war in Iran started, that data will be seen next month. Officials in northern Indiana say two people have died in tornadoes that struck the region

yesterday. A tornado hit Lake Village in Newton County, Indiana. It's southeast of Chicago. That tornado caused extensive damage. More tornadoes were seen in southern Illinois.

There was a stellar performance last night in the NBA. Miami heat, player BAM, a day of boat scored 83 points, Steve Futterman reports. It's the second highest point total in a single game in NBA history.

It was a game that BAM and a bio will never forget.

It was a game that BAM and a bio will never forget.

The call on the Miami heat network, early on it was clear he was on a scoring tear. By half time he had 43 points and it continued in the second half, with just over a minute left in the game, he scored his 83rd point surpassing Kobe Bryant's 81 point performance in 2006, after the game at a bio talked about Bryant. To be 83 and you pass him, just a surreal moment being in the company with somebody you

idolize growing up. Will Chamberlain still holds the all-time record for most points in the single game 100. For MPR News, I'm Steve Futterman. You're listening to MPR News.
