Live from NPR News in Washington, on Corva Coleman, New York's LaGuardia airp...

after a deadly collision between a passenger plane arriving from Montreal and a fire truck

that was on the runway. Officials say two pilots were killed.

Steve Castenbaum reports federal aviation investigators are there.

The nose of the air-cannot-a-regional jet was completely demolished when it slammed into a fire truck that was crossing the runway just as the plane landed at LaGuardia late last night. Port Authority officials say the pilot and copilot were killed. 41 people were taken to nearby hospitals, some with serious injuries, most have since

been released. Two police officers who were on that fire truck were also injured. They were called out to respond to a report of an odor in another passenger jet. For NPR News, I'm Steve Castenbaum, LaGuardia airport in New York. President Trump says he is deploying ice off as serves to airports around the country

starting today, they're supposed to help TSA agents who've gone without pay for a month. But the head of the Union representing TSA agents says ice agents are untrained and will make airport security worse. President Trump has given Iran essentially until the end of the day today to unblock the straight of Hormuz.

That's where 20% of the world's crude oil normally transits.

It's headed to countries around the world. Trump says if Iran refuses, the U.S. will quote obliterate Iran's power plans, and beer's Emily Fang says Iran is not entirely shut off the straight of Hormuz. Iran is letting through a handful of ships still that belong to countries it perceives as neutral.

But then this weekend, a spokesperson for Iran's military operational command center said that the U.S. want to head and destroy Iran's power plans to straight would totally close until Iran could rebuild those plans. Hormuz also threatened to destroy more infrastructure that it sees a supporting U.S. and Israeli interests in the Middle East.

That could include water desalination plans, which Gulf countries are very reliant on. And beer's Emily Fang reporting. A jury in Los Angeles is expected to deliver a verdict this week in a trial over social media addiction.

As NPR's Bobby Allen reports, jurors have heard weeks of testimony about whether Instagram

and YouTube were designed to hook young people. A jury of five men and seven women have been deliberating for more than a week and have indicated they may be close to a verdict. The case focused on a California woman who said she developed oppression, anxiety, and body image issues after compulsively using Instagram and YouTube as a young child.

Lawyers for the woman say meta and Google built defective products that led to her becoming addicted to social media and contributed to her mental health struggles. To accompany attorneys say social media platforms are being scapegoated for a complex mental health issues that have many root causes.

It's the first time the question of social media addiction has been before a jury and

the case is tied to 1600 other pending cases. The outcome could shape how those cases eventually settle. Bobby Allen MPR News. You're listening to NPR. Police in London say four vehicles belonging to a Jewish charity have been set on fire.

They're investigating the fires as a hate attack. No injuries were reported. The vehicles are in a north London neighborhood and the Jewish charity serves all residents who live there. Hawaii could face more storm conditions today as it recovers from the worst flooding

in two decades. From Hawaii Public Radio Ashley Mizio reports, evacuation orders have been lifted for Oahu. As Oahu residents return to their homes, many are faced with mud, mold, and significant property damage. For those on the north shore, the island, health authorities are telling residents to

boil water due to contamination concerns.

Hawaii Governor Josh Greene says the cost of the storm could total over $1 billion.

There are still active flood alerts for Maui, Molocai, Lenai and Hawaii Island. Hundreds of people have required rescue over the weekend and authorities are searching for a missing woman on Maui who was swept by a river. But there have not been any reported deaths. For NPR News, I'm Ashley Mizio in Honolulu.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has also issued a winter storm warning for the big island of Hawaii. Heavy snow will fall in mountainous regions reaching three inches in some places. Cuba says it's restarting its power grid after a new collapse through the island into darkness. Cuban officials say U.S. sanctions have blocked fuel from getting to the island and millions

have lost electricity. The Trump administration says that the Communist-controlled government is to blame. I'm Corvaculman and P.R. News in Washington.
