"Live from MPR News," I'm Giles Snyder, with indications that the U.

this week for a second round of talks aimed at ending the war, Secretary of State Marco

Rubio oversaw what he calls a historic meeting at the State Department between the ambassadors

of Lebanon and Israel. It was a first-direct diplomatic talks in decades and comes as Israel continues to fight "hezbollah in Lebanon," this impures Michele Kellerman reports. The State Department says the two sides had productive discussions and will meet again Israel's ambassador to Washington, Michael Lighter, says they agree on the need to, in

his words, liberate Lebanon from Hezbollah and Iran. "Lebanon is under the occupation and we are suffering from their constant morages of missiles and terror attacks trying to cross our border." Lebanon is dressing the need for a ceasefire and full sovereignty. Israel has taken over parts of southern Lebanon as it continues to fight his beloved.

Michele Kellerman and PR News, the State Department. "The International Energy Agency predicts that the conflict in Iran will cut into global oil demand this year.

The Intergovernmental Group represents a world's biggest energy consumers and its

impures Camila Domenoski reports its latest monthly reports on oil markets, details, and many disruptions caused by the war." The IEA still anticipates that the global appetite for oil will grow this year, but less than it expected before the war. That's because of supply shortages, higher prices, and direct impacts, like the suspension

of flights in the Middle East. In a similar report this week, the oil cartel OPEC, which represents oil producers, estimates that demand for oil would be unchanged for the year overall. The two groups often disagree. Neither body predicts a major hit to the global economy, although the IEA warns that if oil

prices remain high for a protracted period, that would weigh on growth. Camila Domenoski and PR News. " Former California Congresswoman Jackie Spears has sexual abuse and harassment on Capitol Hill as a big problem. She spoke to NPR after two members, California Democrat Eric Swallwell, and Texas Republican

Tony Gonzalez stepped down so you can help lead the Me Too Movement on Capitol Hill." "Well, one of the things that needs to change, and we thought we had fixed it, but the law has got to be amended, is that there is no tolerance for sexual harassment or sexual assault of any of your staff members. Not kind of conduct should require you to be expelled from Congress."

Swallwell faced accusations from multiple women, one of whom stepped forward Tuesday alleging he had drugged in rape to eight years ago, Gonzalez admitted in a fair with a staff member who later died by suicide. And you're listening to NPR News. A super typhoon is battering Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands was sustained wind speeds

of 150 miles per hour, flooding the Pacific territories as impairs Rebecca Hershey reports. "Super typhoons in Laku is hitting the northern Mariana Islands with dangerous winds,

powerful enough to downtrees, knockout electricity, and even destroy wood-frame buildings.

It's also bringing significant flooding to Guam. Powerful typhoons and hurricanes are more likely to form because of climate change. Ocean temperatures are rising because of planet warming pollution, from burning oil, gas, and coal, that warmer ocean water helps storms like St. Laku get larger and more dangerous. Rebecca Hershey and Pair News.

"The Walt Disney Company has begun a round of layoffs that are expected to lead to 1,000 job cuts across the company. New Chief Executive Josh de Maro announced a layoffs in an email to employees on Tuesday as he attempts to streamline Disney's operations to cope with the declining television business, shrinking box office, and heightened competition."

Good-ADD and Prime Minister Mark Carney is moving to temporarily suspend Canada's fuel tax.

Carney's announcement Tuesday is his first act after securing a majority government following

Monday's special elections. Carney says the tax on gasoline and diesel will be suspended from this coming Monday through Labor Day, saying the move is intended to help businesses and consumers deal with rising prices, brought on by the Iran War. I'm Drial Snyder, MPR News.
