Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Libby Casey.

President Trump has extended the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran indefinitely.

That announcement came out, where is after Trump issued aggressive threats of new strikes.

Even as the ceasefire stayed in place, Iran fired on three ships in the straight-of-war moves and seized two of them. The effective closure of the straight has sent gas prices skyrocketing and PR's Franco-Ordonis. The Trump administration has tried everything to reopen the straight, including, right now, its own blockade, preventing Iranian tide ships from entering or leaving Vice President

Vance was, of course, scheduled to travel to Pakistan yesterday, four peace talks. Those are often now because the Iranians refused to mean calling that U.S. blockade an act of war. So Iran's nuclear capabilities, they're clearly an issue. But before the war, there was free passage through the straight, and that's no longer the case, and it's really, really a big concern around the world.

President Trump has said the U.S. naval blockade will continue and that the U.S. military will stay in the region.

Lufthansa says it's cutting 20,000 short-haul flights this summer in response to the sharp

rise in jet fuel prices driven by the U.S. is really war on Iran. As that's made Nicholson reports, the German airline is not alone in raising prices and canceling flights. Lufthansa says it's decision to reduce its summer flight time table should save more than 40,000 metric tons of carousine, which has more than doubled in price since the start of the

U.S. is really war against Iran. Dutch carrier KLM, Air France and Delta have also temporarily cut some flights while other airlines have raised ticket prices and baggage fees. The Gulf provides about half of Europe's jet fuel, most of it via the Strait of Hormuz, which remains effectively closed. The EU is warning of a very serious aviation crisis as

the international energy agency warns that Europe could run out of jet fuel within weeks. For MPR News, I'm Esmane Hussson in Berlin.

A federal appeals court has upheld a Texas law requiring the display of the 10 commandments

in every public school classroom. From Houston Public Media and Roosh Niter reports, the ruling has significant implications for long-established ideas of the separation of church and state.

The fifth circuit judge is ruled nine to eight that the Texas law does not violate the first

amendment to the Constitution, either in its prohibition of government-established religion, or its protection for the free exercise or non-exercise of religion. Charles Rocky Rhodes teaches constitutional law at the University of Missouri. It seems based on the fifth circuits interpretation here, pretty much anything else that the government wants to do to acknowledge religion is going to be acceptable.

The ACLU and other organizations representing the plaintiff's challenging the Texas law say they anticipate asking the Supreme Court to reverse the fifth circuits ruling. For NPR News, I'm Andrew Schneider in Houston. NPR Georgia Congressman David Scott has died at age 80.

The Democrat was seeking his 13th term in Congress representing Metro Atlanta,

but was facing tough primary competition, Scott was the first black chair of the House Agriculture Committee.

Musician Dave Mason has died, according to his statement from his publicist, the 79-year-old guitarist and vocalist died peacefully Sunday with his family at his home in Nevada. NPR's Felix Contreras reports Mason became a film failure name to rock fans in the 1970s, largely through his songwriting and his contributions to many iconic classic rock albums. Dave Mason was referred to himself as the forest gump of rock,

having been in the studio with the Rolling Stones, George Harrison, and even Jimmy Hendrix. But it was his songwriting that made perhaps the strongest impact, as the member of the British band traffic. At age 19, he wrote what would become a classic rock state, songs like Only You Know And I Know, as well as the tender ballad we just disagree.

Kept Dave Mason on the road until 2025 when he announced his retirement from performing because of his series of health problems. Felix Contreras and Fior News. A golden helmet dating back 2500 years has been returned to Romania after the national heirloom was stolen last year. It was on loan at a Dutch museum when it was taken during a break-in. Two bracelets were recovered. One is still missing, as part of a deal reached with

men arrested. This is NPR. Across the country, parents are taking their kids out of traditional public schools and opting for private or charter schools instead.

My kids have to come first for me. The great good has to come second.

On this Sunday's story, we go to Cedar Rapids Iowa to see how going all in on school choice is leaving some students behind. This is now on the up first podcast on the NPR app.
