Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Ryland Barton.
The man who authorities say tried to storm the White House Correspondence Association dinner with guns and knives has been charged with attempted assassination of President Trump. Prosecutors say coal, Allen, wrote a letter to his family members saying he was targeting administration officials, acting attorney general Todd Blanch said journalists were among
those to blame for political violence in the U.S. And many people in this room, if we're going to be honest about it, have done it as done as well. They're just as guilty as a lot of people on X.
When you have reporters, when you have media media, just being overly critical and calling
the President horrible names, for no reason and without evidence without proof, it shouldn't surprise us that this type of rhetoric takes place.
“Officials say Allen was injured during the attack, but was not shot, a secret service officer”
was shot, but was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and survived. First Lady Melania Trump is criticizing late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel for a joke he made about her as NPR's Montelietal Barco reports President Trump is again calling for him to be fired. Jimmy Kimmel made his jab during a sketch on his late night show last week, a mock speech
for an alternative White House Correspondence dinner. Our first lady Melania is here, look at Melissa so beautiful, Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expected widow. Kimmel's sketch rant two days before the real White House Correspondence dinner, when an alleged would be a assassin tried to storm the ballroom, in a post on X. Melania Trump
called Kimmel's joke about her hateful and violent, and she asked network ABC, which airs his show to take a stand. The President then called for ABC and parent company Disney to immediately fire him. In September, the network did briefly suspend Kimmel's show after he commented on the mega response to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Mandelietal Barco

The Education Department has until September 30 to spend $77 million on special education
research and evaluation programs, an advocacy group called Knowledge Alliance analyzed Department data and found that about 84% of that money is still unspent. By this point in the year, there would normally be federal notices or plans to launch grant competitions to use the money, but none exist. The Knowledge Alliance and other advocacy groups have expressed concern that if the money
“expires, important research about students with disabilities could be lost.”
Yet, a spokesperson told NPR the Ed Department is committed to using the funds on, quote, "high quality research on issues affecting students with or at risk of a disability." Jannaki meta and PR news. This is NPR News from Washington. The Trump administration has fired members of an independent board that oversees the National
Science Foundation. The NSF board was created in 1950 to advise the president and Congress on science and engineering policy, approved major funding awards, and guide NSF's future scientists and advocates are concerned by the decision saying it could further damage the U.S. scientific engine. The last surviving member of the iconic girl group, The Ronette, says died, "Nedra Tally Ross
was 80 years old and Piers Isabella Gomez Sarmiento has this appreciation." Nedra Tally Ross grew up in New York City alongside her cousins, Veronica and Estelle Bennett.
She began singing together as teenagers and released their first and only studio album

“Featuring several previously-release singles, it was called "Presenting the Fabulous Ronette."”
The trio's smokey vocals, signature wings eyeliner, and lush orchestral wall-of-sound production change the course of pop and rock history. After the group split in 1967, Nedra Tally Ross pivoted to Christian contemporary music. She was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as part of the Ronette's in 2007.
