Live from MPR News, I'm Jial Snyder, the man being held in connection with Sa...
shooting at the White House correspondent, Stender, made his first court appearance Monday,
“31-year-old Cole Allen faces three charges, including trying to assassinate President Trump.”
MPR's Ryan Lucas was in the courtroom. This was Allen's initial court appearance. He was in the room wearing a blue prison outfit. He sat at the defense table with two public defenders who the judge had appointed as his counsel.
Now, the magistrate judge explained the proceedings to Allen, asked Allen a few questions. He responded to many of those questions with either yes, your honor or no your honor. The judge also ordered this case on sealed. And Allen has been charged by criminal complaint with three counts. The most serious one attempted assassination of the U.S. President.
The other two charges are both related to the guns he allegedly had on him on Saturday. MPR's Ryan Lucas reporting, according to the Associated Press, Iran has offered to end its control over the straight-of-port moves. If the U.S. lifts its blockade and ends the war, meanwhile the Trump administration's ambassador to the U.N. says Iran should not be allowed to use the straight-of-port moves as a bargaining
chip. And Pierce Michelle Kalman reports on a high level meeting on the subject in the Security Council.
“U.S. Ambassador Mike Walt says the straight-of-port moves is too important to the global”
economy to be choked off or attacked by those he calls too bit pirates. This straight is not Iran's to wield like its own moat and draw bridge. It is not Iran's hostage, it is not Iran's bargaining chip, it is not Iran's toll road. Russia's ambassador says it's not pirates threatening maritime security, but Western countries with what he calls their lawless actions, including sanctions and seizing vessels.
He and his ambassadors says the root cause of the blocked straight-of-harm moves is what he calls the illegal military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. The protesters gathered Monday outside the federal courthouse in Oakland, California, where jury selection began, in the case of Elon Musk vs. Open AI Sam Almond.
Their message, whoever wins, the public loses. Rachel Myro has more from Member Station KQED. A small crowd gathered on the plaza of their protest and at both Elon Musk and Sam Almond.
“Their bitterly goofy, over-weather opening-eye betrayed its founding promise to benefit humanity”
is on trial and open. Actually, or a tease of Sunnyvale, who helped organize the demonstration as part of the group Tesla takedown, says she's upset with many members of the billionaire class and Silicon Valley. They're all holding hands and they're all part of it, they're all linked up.
Then, I see more lawsuits, I see more problems like this happening.
This is just the first one.
The trial runs through May 21st. For NPR News, I'm Rachel Myro and Oakland. This is NPR. Georgia got some much needed rainfall over the weekend, but not nearly enough to put out two wildfires that had burned more than 50,000 acres in the southern part of the state.
Emily Jones, a member of Station W.A.B.E. reports. The dozens of homes have been destroyed and scores of people have had to evacuate. Many are clamoring to get back home. Brantley County Manager Joey Cason says officials are allowing some people to return home, but they should be ready to evacuate again if necessary.
"Just understand that safety is the biggest concern that this whole group is worried about, trying to make sure that we get folks back in their homes as soon as possible, but safely as possible." Fire officials say they're expecting more wind later in the week, which could spread the fire farther.
For NPR News, I'm Emily Jones in Atlanta. "The death toll from Monday's train crash and Indonesia has climbed to at least 14. And officials say more than 80 others were taken to hospitals.
Officials say a commuter train first collided with a taxi on the tracks at a station
outside Jakarta. The commuter train was then rear-ended by a long distance train. Officials say crews have completed the rescue of survivors trapped in the wreckage. A car restricted to women only for the brun of the crash." The trial in Austria said to begin Tuesday for the man accused of plotting to attack a Taylor
Swift concert in Vienna nearly two years ago. He faces charges including terrorist defenses and membership in a terrorist organization, authorities alleged the defendant pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group his attorney, says he plans to plead guilty to most of the charges.
