King Charles III has just delivered a historic address to a joint meeting of Congress.
“He's the first British monarch to do so since his late mother Queen Elizabeth II in”
the early 1990s. The King is attempting to dial down tensions between the UK and the US, especially over their opposing views on Britain's role in the US-Israel War against Iran. I pray with all my heart that our alliance will continue to defend our shared values with our partners in Europe and the Commonwealth and across the world.
The White House sought to reaffirm the country's long-standing alliance during the King's State visit. While there's some fence-mending, King Charles and Queen Camilla are officially visiting the United States and celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The Justice Department has secured an indictment against former FBI Director James
Colmey's second time, the DOJ has indicted Colmey, a fierce critic, and now spoken
opponent of President Trump. Here's NPR's Ryan Lucas.
“A person familiar with the matter confirmed to NPR that a grand jury has handed up an indictment”
against James Colmey. The case revolves around a photo of the former FBI director posted online last year of C-Shells on a beach arranged to say eight-six-four-seven, eight-six-been-old slang to mean dismiss or remove, and for seven, seen by some as a reference to President Trump, who is the 47th President.
Administration officials accused Colmey of threatening Trump, Colmey has said he didn't realize some people associate the numbers with violence and took the post down. This indictment is seen as the latest move by the Justice Department to use its vast powers to go after President Trump's perceived political enemies, Ryan Lucas and PR News, Washington.
The United Arab Emirates says it is dropping out of the OPEC cartel. It plans to gradually increase its production of crude oil, and PR Scott Horsley reports the announcement has had little effect on oil prices, which are hovering around $100 a barrel.
“The UAE's desire to increase oil production has been a source of friction within OPEC”
that cartel often limits how much its members can pump in an effort to maintain a floor under crude oil prices. Those prices have spiked as a result of the U.S. war with Iran, which is stalled tanker traffic through the straight-of-war moves. Triple A says the average price of regular gasoline, now tops $4.17 a gallon.
That's up 15 cents in the last week, and more than a dollar higher than this time last year. That was Leampion News. Washington. You're listening to NPR News.
The Federal Communications Commission citing public interest concerns in now ordering Disney to seek early renewal of its eight-company-owned ABC TV station licenses within 30 days. The FCC says it's investigating the stations for possible violations including discrimination.
This, as the President and First Lady pressured ABC, to hold late night show hosts Jimmy
Kimmel accountable for a monologue last week in which he rose to the Trump's ahead of the White House correspondent's dinner. In a parody, Kimmel said, quote, "Mrs. Trump, you have a glow-like and expectant widow." Two days later, there was a shooting at the dinner. Authorities say the gunman was trying to assassinate President Trump.
The country's largest home-insure state farm is accused in lawsuits of secretly working to cut insurance payouts for win and hail damage. Piers' micro-coplay reports the allegations come as homeowners, faced soaring insurance costs partly due to threats from "climate change." Plaintives claim that state farms alleged cost-cutting initiative relies on two main tactics,
assessing insurance claims using definitions and exclusions that don't appear in customers' policies, and restricting claims suggesters from independently deciding when roofs should be replaced. Oklahoma's Republican Attorney General, Gantner Drummond, has joined one lawsuit against state farm.
Today, in the company's alleged misconduct, undermines confidence in the insurance system and exposes homeowners to unacceptable financial risk. State farm denies doing anything unlawful, saying it pays what it does on claims based on the terms of individual policies and the facts of each case. Michael Kapli and PR News
