today, President Trump was not forthcoming about the status of talks with Iran, and
“when asked about gas prices, he emphasized stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon”
in Piers' Daniel Kurtz-Labon reports. A reporter pointed out that Iran is stubborn, and the talks seem like they're stalled, then asked if the President is feeling antsy to break the ceasefire. Trump, emerged. "I don't know what you're suffering is because you really know what it is where the talks are, except myself, and a couple of other people. They want to make it deal badly."
When asked about gas prices, Trump said Iran won't have a nuclear weapon, and that prices will decline when the war is over. He says that'll happen fast, industry experts say otherwise. Oil prices briefly hit a four-year high before the end of the day. According to AAA, the average gas price is $4.30 per gallon. Daniel Kurtz-Labon and PR news the White House.
Under the war, power's resolution of 1973, President Trump has until tomorrow, to either in the war or seek congressional approval for further military action that extends beyond 60 days. But Defense Secretary Pete Hegg Seth laid the groundwork today for getting around that requirement,
“testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee.”
Hegg Seth suggested the ceasefire that began earlier this month, means the 60 day requirement has not yet been met. The Senate has passed a resolution banning lawmakers from betting on prediction markets. And PR's Bobby Allen reports on growing fears that the popular platforms are being used for insider trading. It's already illegal for members of Congress to use non-public information to trade on prediction markets. But now the Senate has gone a step further and barred senators from using the platforms at all.
The Justice Department recently indicted a special forces army soldier for allegedly using classified information about the arrest of Venezuela's Nicholas Maduro to make $400,000 on the site poly-market. And Kalshi, another prediction market site, find and suspended three congressional candidates last week for betting on their own campaigns. The Trump administration has taken a light touch approach to the prediction market industry,
which the President's son Donald Trump Jr. has invested in. Bobby Allen and PR news.
“Elon Musk testified for a third and final day today.”
In a court case, I could reshape the future of one of the world's most powerful AI companies.
From member station KQED, Rachel Myro has more from outside the courthouse. Musk told the court he sued open AI after deciding his co-founders put profit ahead of their founding mission. But, and across examination, defense attorneys highlighted texts and emails that showed his own AI company. Xi partially lifted code from open AI's models and Musk and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta discussed bidding together on open AI's intellectual property.
On Monday, open AI co-founder Greg Brockman is expected to take the stand. "For NPR News, I'm Rachel Myro and Oakland." And you're listening to NPR News. A 650 crewed mile crude oil pipeline through eastern Montana and Wyoming just cleared another hurdle on the way to construction.
Montana Public Radio's Ellis Jullin reports that President Trump today issued a cross-border permit for the Bridger Pipeline expansion project.
The pipeline would move half a million gallons of crude tar sands oil from Canada into the
U.S. daily. It's in a similar area to the Keystone XL pipeline, which was terminated under President Biden. The Bridger Pipeline would cross major rivers, including the Missouri and the Yellowstone, prompting fears about the potential for contamination of water sources. It could also run through the Fort Peck Indian Reservation,
home to the Asinaboyne and Sioux tribes. Tribal nations were not consulted as part of Trump's permitting decision. The proposal must still go through several permitting processes at the state and federal levels before construction could begin as early as next summer. Banksy posted a video on his Instagram account today showing the statue being dropped into place in the dead of night. The statue features a man with his face covered by a flag.
Banksy has never publicly revealed his identity. This is NPR News.
