Live from MPR News, I'm Giles Snyder, President Trump is pausing the U.

to guide commercial ships through the Strait of Hormos, Trump announced a decision on social

media Tuesday saying the pause is for a short period to give space to talks on an agreement to end the Iran war. Trump says the military blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke about that blockade earlier in the day. If you can't have a situation in which the straits are close to everyone else, but

they benefit from the piracy. That can't happen.

That's why the blockade is in place, and that's why these sanctions are crippling

them. Rubio and other senior administration officials said Tuesday that Iran cannot be allowed

to control traffic through the strait.

But while he told reporters at the White House that the main military operation is over, the U.S. will respond if attacked. The U.S. military on Monday said it had destroyed several Iranian small boats. The tone is ratcheting up again between the U.S. and European allies, and Piers Hellenir Beardsley reports that EU leaders say they reject President Trump's latest threat to

raise tariffs on European car imports. Analysts say Trump was likely reacting out of peak after the German Chancellor's comments that Iran is humiliating the United States. But EU chief Ursula von der Leyen says a deal is a deal, talking about the trade deal already

negotiated between the U.S. and EU, French President Emmanuel Macron, says given the current

state of the world, the last thing allies should be doing is threatening to destabilize each other. He says Europe wants free and fair trade, but if Trump insists the EU will activate certain instruments. He's talking about the EU's anti-corrosion measure, also known as the trade bazooka, which

could be used to levy billions of dollars of tariffs on American imports to Europe. I want our Beardsley and Piers news, Paris. Now to Tennessee, where hundreds of protesters gathered at the state capital as lawmakers began a special session Tuesday to consider splitting Memphis's democratic stronghold into red districts from Member Station W. PLN, Mary Annabaki Outreports.

Hundreds of protesters marched the steps of the Tennessee capital as lawmakers gavled in, with signs that red, no Jim Crow 2.0, and hands off my district.

Tennessee N.W.ACP President Gloria Sweetlove told the crowd that the move brings the

state back to a time before the voting rights act. We're public and lawmakers have voted to ban disruptive spectators during the special session. He leadership says the redistricting effort will reflect the will of the voters. Lawmakers will likely only have three days to redistrict a process that usually takes months.

For NPR news, I'm Mary Annabaki Outreports in Nashville. This is NPR. Tuesday's primary election in Ohio set up what is expected to be one of November's most high profile races, former Senator Sherrod Brown won the Democratic nomination and will now attempt to unseat Republican Senator John Hustett.

Also former GOP President Joe Candidate Vivek Rameswami will face a challenge for the governor's office from Democrat Dr. Amy Acton. In Indiana, many of the Republican state senators who opposed to congressional redistricting plan backed by President Trump lost their primaries. Every passenger's have died from an outbreak of hunt of irisling to a cruise ship anchored

off the coast of West Africa in Pierskebriela, Emmanuel reports. Hunt of iris is a rare but serious condition that typically spreads because of exposure to eroding urine, feces, or saliva. But in a small number of cases, the virus can be transmitted between people. The WHO's Maria Van Kirkov spoke and oppressed conference Tuesday.

We do believe that there may be some human-to-human transmission that's happening among the really close contacts that has been in life, people who've shared cabins, etc. She says the initial cases may have contracted the virus when off the ship. She says officials have brought more personal protective equipment on board for the passengers who remain on vote.

Three people have died of the 147 passengers and crew members. Gabrielle Manuel and PR News. The Okshers and Asia are mostly advancing in Asian trading on Wednesday. This is in PR News. Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Gaza, with conflict unfolding in so many places.
