Meanwhile, Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, asking the UN Security Council to defend freedom of navigation in the Strait, and it calls for Iran to cease its attacks and pierce Michelle Kelliman reports. Secretary Rubio calls it a test for the UN, and a "modest" request

to call on Iran to stop putting minds in attacking ships in the Strait of Hormos.

Guys, that's what we're talking about here. These guys are bombing commercial vessels.

They're not bombing naval vessels. They're bombing commercial tankers. It's just outrageous.

That needs to stop, and it needs to end. Rubio says it's in Russia and China's interest to get Iran to stop blocking the Strait, but those two recently vetoed a similar measure, arguing that the root cause of this crisis is what they call the unlawful US and Israeli war against Iran. Michelle Kelliman and PR news the State Department. China's top diplomat met with his Iranian counterpart in Beijing today, saying the US and Iran need to reach a

that they are not happy. You get some wiggles month to month, but in general consumer sentiment is quite low. And one of the things that we know that does really impact consumer sentiment is energy prices. And so just going back to where we started, not only is consumer sentiment relatively low right now, it's probably going to face some headwinds in the months to come. Kentucky Governor Andy Bashir announced to divergency order Tuesday that would lower the state's gas tax from member

station WKU. Shepherd Snyder has more. Gas prices in Kentucky have risen above $4 per gallon with some Cincinnati suburbs seen prices approaching $5 per gallon. States like Indiana and Georgia, both led by Republican governors, have suspended their own gas taxes in response to the increasing cost of fuel. Governor Bashir, a Democrat, is following the same strategy in Kentucky. The price of gas isn't partisan. It's not Democrat or Republican. It's just too high.

He expects the tax cut to take effect next week. Once it's approved, it would cut taxes by 10 cents per gallon for the next month. For NPR News, I'm Shepherd Snyder in Lexington, Kentucky. This is NPR News. Tuesday's primary election in Ohio said what is expected to be one of November's most high-profile races, former Senator Sherrod Brown, one of the Democratic nomination, and one elephant to unseat Republican Senator John Hustett. Also former GOP presidential

candidate, Vivek Mermeswami, will face a challenge for the Governor's office from Democrat Dr. Amy Acton. In Indiana, many of the Republican state senators who opposed a congressional redistricting plan back by President Trump lost their primaries. To North Carolina, Duke Energy is betting big on the future of an AI data center development and its service territory, even as many communities it serves, oppose it's accurate turner from member station WFAE reports.

Duke says it earned almost $1.6 billion in profit last quarter. The company's president,

Harry Sedaris, lauded new data center development. We continue to seize the growth in our attractive regions, driven by innovation and AI technologies and advanced manufacturing. This includes new projects from Microsoft, Amazon, Digital Realty, and other hyper scale data center developers. Duke continues to court new facilities, even as several local governments have already passed moratoriums against it. Resident Sheila Sherrod has asked local officials

in Lee County, North Carolina, to pass a similar resolution. If everybody's rates are going up, where are the data centers contributing? She sees a mismatch between Duke's current rate hike proposal in the savings the utility is promised. For NPR News, I'm Zach returner in Charlotte. And I'm Jail Snyder. This is NPR News.
