"Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Noraram.

Iran today responded to the latest U.S. proposal to end the war.

Official Iranian news agency reported the response was delivered to Pakistani mediators.

Not much detail was made public, except the response appears to focus primarily on reopening the straight-up for moves to shipping. The Islamic Republic of Iran broadcasting said the response is in line with Iran's previous positions. The war began February 28 when the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes.

The war in Iran is likely to come up this week when President Trump meets with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing. Trade and AI are also expected to be part of the conversation. NPR's deeper shiver on reports Trump's trip to China was delayed by nearly two months

because of Trump's decision to go to war with Iran.

Now 10 weeks into the war that was supposed to end weeks ago, Trump may seek help from Xi in wrapping up the conflict by asking China to influence Iran to reopen the state of Hormuz.

The closure of the state has led to higher oil prices around the world, and its impacting

Trump's political standing at home in the U.S. But whether there's actual progress made on that or points of conversation like economic agreements and AI is unclear. U.S.-China relations have been frosty for the last year. Tensions were high when Trump and Xi met in South Korea last year over escalating tariffs.

And while that conflict has cooled, expectations for major takeaways from this upcoming meeting remain low. Deepishivaram and PR News, Washington. The U.S. will host another round of talks between Israel and Lebanon in Washington this week.
