"Life from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston.

Vice President J.D. Vance says top U.S. negotiators, Steve Whitkoff and Jerry Kushner are

in Switzerland, as the Trump administration works to restart talks with Iran.

Speaking on Fox News, Vance said senior officials from several countries are expected to arrive in Lucerne as early as Sunday." So we'll play in the talks when the principles from the Iranian government also the Cotarii and the Pakistani government arrive.

That may happen as soon as tomorrow, but these things are always a little bit influx.

Jared and Steve have been on the ground now for a few hours, dealing with some of the technical elements of this negotiation. Iran says it's once again closed the state of Hormuz to shipping traffic but Vance has denied that claim. The Vice President says he may travel to Switzerland in the coming days.

He was supposed to have led a delegation to Lucerne on Friday, but that got postponed

because of intense fighting in southern Lebanon.

Israeli air strikes in Lebanon overnight have it killed at least 16 people that's according to government and local officials, and P.R.s. Jawad Rizkala reports the attacks continued despite a U.S. brokerage ceasefire agreed by Israel and Iran backed Hezbollah on Friday. (Speaking in foreign language) Italian Prime Minister, Georgia Maloney, is pushing back after President Trump said she begged

him for a photo off that last week's G7 summit in France, making Williams reports from Rome. (Speaking in foreign language) George Maloney posted the video calling Trump's account completely fabricated, saying she was stunned the U.S. President would make up a story about a partner country.

Italy and I do not beg, she said.

Italian leaders from across the political spectrum quickly backed her, foreign minister

Antonia Tayani even canceled a plan trip to the U.S. Maloney had tried to position herself as Trump's closest European ally, but strains over Iran, Ukraine, tariffs, and Gaza have been growing. And here in Italy, the spat is being read as the end of a close political friendship. (Speaking in foreign language)

Pope Leo is traveling to northern Italy to visit the birthplace of mother-francice Cabrini, the first American saint. The visit comes as the Pope continues to emphasize the church's ministry to immigrants and refugees, Cabrini founded schools, hospitals, and orphanages across the United States after arriving from Italy in the late 1800s.

She was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1946.

A new poll shows most Catholics in the U.S. say President Trump has been too critical of

the Pope, and PR's Jason D'Aros reports on a recent study from the Pew Research Center. 51% of those surveyed say the president has been overly harsh toward the pontiff, while just 19% say Leo has been too critical of the Trump administration. 16% of American Catholics say the Pope hasn't been critical enough. The Pew poll also finds that nearly 8 in 10 approve of the first U.S. foreign Pope overall.

Not surprisingly, Catholic Democrats and independence expressed somewhat more favorable views of Leo than Catholic Republicans. Pew Research conducted the poll in late May and early June in the wake of public tensions between President Trump and Pope Leo over the war with Iran. Jason D'Aros and PR news.

British Prime Minister Kyrs Starmer says he'll fight any attempts by rival Andy Burnham to oust him from office. Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, won a seat in Parliament in a special election this week. He's now emerging as a potential challenger for the Labor Party leadership.
