Fighting has continued in southern Lebanon despite a new framework agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government.

It was hoped that deal would end the fighting that devastated large parts of that country.

As Esme Nicholson reports, Europe's extreme heat wave is being linked to hundreds of deaths over the past week. The World Health Organization says that as of Sunday, more than 1300 excess deaths have been recorded in Europe since June 21st, underlining that heat stress is a silent killer. It warns that European homes workplaces and schools are not built to withstand extreme heat, and calls for action across the continent to safeguard against temperatures that are rising at twice the global average. In Germany, two forest fires have broken out in regions where the high density of unexpoded ordinance,

one of them still contaminated with World War II ammunition. In Poland, the entire railway network ground to a halt, leaving passengers stranded on broken down trains. For MPI News, I'm Esme Nicholson, in Berlin. As in Europe, whether officials say a major heat wave is descending on the Midwest and Eastern U.S. this week,

several days of temperatures reaching as high as 100 degrees is expected for the lower Great Lakes,

the Mid Atlantic and the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys. The heat will then settle in the Great Plains, southeast and west Atlantic for the 4th of July. Wildfires are continuing to burn in the western U.S., three Colorado firefighters were killed this weekend, while fighting the nose and gore fires on the border of Colorado and Utah. Utah Forest Service officials,

Palestinians reported heavy shelling from Israeli tanks across Gaza on Sunday in one strike, the targeted a group of people in northern Gaza, two people were killed in one other injured,

and an attack in southern Gaza killed one man. A 13-year-old girl was also killed by shrapnel during it is rarely shelling. Gaza health officials say more than 1,040 people have been killed since the ceasefire went into effect last October. The White House had previewed the concept in April, calling it the Patriot passport, and describing it as limited edition and stamped for America 250. The State Department confirmed it has created a commemorative version of the standard passport book to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US. The document features custom artwork and enhanced images on the front
