Congress is home for the Fourth of July, but politics follows members wherever they go.
And nationally, the Democratic Party says it's leaving no opportunity untapped as campaigning for mid-term elections, which is into high-gear post-fourth. NPR is a Lena Moore, it takes a look at the "intraparty message" challenges among Democrats, such as those posed by the primary victory of New York's Avilla Shovelier, a Democratic Socialist.
“Even though Democrats broadly agree on key economic issues, they worry that other positions”
held by more leftist candidates will muddy their message. Take Avilla Shovelier, for example, she holds positions that make some Democrats nervous for one on her campaign website she advocates for abolishing the "deportation machine." She's also one of several candidates who has faced criticism that their opposition to Israel's war in Gaza borders on antisemitism, and P.R.s Elena Moore, climate forecasters say the
planet is facing a hot year ahead that's because the seasonal El Nino pattern is strengthening
and P.R.s Lauren's summer has to tail.
The chances for a strong or even super El Nino this year are increasing. That's according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization. El Nino is a natural climate pattern, where warm ocean waters spread across the central Pacific Ocean. That can affect the weather, like bringing more extreme rain to the southern US.
El Nino also raises temperatures globally, with average temperatures already hotter because of climate change, El Nino years are often the hottest years on record. Lauren Summer and P.R. News. "Extreme heat has settled in across many parts of the nation. Record dry conditions have elevated fire risks this year, and that's going to mean restrictions
on fireworks displays in many locations across the country. Utah has banned personal fireworks due to extreme wildfire risk, governors in Colorado and New Mexico are urging restraint, cities from the southwest to Oregon and Washington have imposed their own restrictions." Fans have been gathering at front of Madison Square Garden in New York City ahead of
tonight's expected wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. The singer and the NFL player have kept the tails of the celebration under wraps and P.R.s Brian Man reports. Lisa Benham and her daughters are opposing for selfies outside the garden. They're visiting from England and both say they're huge Swifties.

Lisa Benham, who's 47, says she became a fan, after her 17-year-old daughter dragged her to a show. She's followed all the ins and outs of Swift's romance with Travis Kelsey, a tight-end with the Kansas City Chiefs. "I'm thrilled for her.
I love it. I love the whole story. I am so pleased for them. Really pleased for them." It's unclear exactly how this wedding will play out, but in New York City permit,
shows up to 1,000 guests are expected. The celebration is scheduled to continue into the early hours on Saturday. Brian Man and P.R. News, New York. This is N.P.R. A former bookseller in Hong Kong, who was seized by Chinese authorities in 2015, Lom Wynki,
“has died, according to the official Central News Agency at Taiwan, where he resided”
until his death, and P.R.s Jennifer Pack reports from Beijing. In Hong Kong, Lam ran the cause-way bay bookshop that specialized in selling gossipy paperbacks
critical of China's leadership.
The shop was popular with mainland Chinese visitors. In 2015, Lam was among five men linked to the bookshop, who were taken into custody by Chinese authorities. Upon release, Lam gave his own account of what happened, contradicting Beijing's official narrative.
Later, he reopened the bookstore in the self-governing island of Taiwan. The local news agency did not give a cause of death, but said Lam's cancer had relapsed last year. Taiwanese President-lighting the sent his condolences in a Facebook post. He applauded Lam for never-stained silent in the face of fear and authoritarian repression.
