NPR's Eric McDaniel says Republicans are thinking about what message they'll take home. President Trump is, again, escalating his war with Iran, more American troops have died. Gas prices as of this morning are again over $4, according to AAA, and polling shows the cost of living in affordability are Americans' chief concerns. And that's the context that Republicans have, with maybe a two vote margin in the house,
when they're hoping to take votes on the president's priorities before they head home to sell their record to constituents in hopes of getting re-elected this fall. On House Speaker Mike Johnson's agenda, increasing defense spending, and President Trump's election integrity bill, which would tighten voter ID laws, there's also a bill
in play that would ban stock trading for lawmakers, and a proposal to extend government
funding through the November election. Secretary of State Marco Rubio calls Cuba the leading sponsor of radical leftism in the
“United States, and he's naming organizations that he says had been working with Cuban intelligence”
and PR's Michelle Kelliman reports. Just days after Secretary Rubio hosted a conference on what he describes as a resurgence of left-wing political violence, he's issuing a 70-page report detailing what he sees as Cuba's history of an ideological battle against the United States starting in the 1960s. He says Cuba's "marked-sis project" not only survived the collapse of the Soviet Union,
but thrived, and he calls Ivanna the ideological capital of the modern radical left. Rubio's parents were born in Cuba, but fled to the U.S. before the revolution, Rubio
began his political career in Florida, and was known for his tough stand against Cuba's
communist government, Michelle Kelliman and PR news the State Department. A Mississippi teenager whose body was found after a July 4th boat trip will be remembered today at a memorial service. Nolan Wells, family, and civil rights leaders are calling for justice, as they search for answers about how he died, and PR's "Christian Right" reports.
Nolan Wells, family, and friends, and members of his community are gathering at a church in the 18-year-old's hometown of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The Reverend Al Sharpton is delivering the ulogy, and the family's attorney Benjamin Crump is issuing a call to justice. Wells' death has drawn national attention and demands for a fair investigation.
The case has renewed longstanding questions about race and policing in the deep south. The black teenager went on a boating trip to an island with a group of high school friends that are white, but didn't return with them. His body was found two days later off the coast. The family has arranged an independent autopsy, Christian Wright and PR news.
The United Kingdom has a new Prime Minister in Andy Burnham. He replaces Kira Starmer, both from the Center Left Labor Party. It's NPR. Students in India are demanding the resignation of the country's Education Minister. NPR's Omkara Kandaka reports, the government has offered to negotiate with the protesters.
Protesters sang songs and chanted slogans calling for a revolution, demanding the resignation of India's Education Minister Theramantha Ratan, a series of university and government job entrance exam papers were leaked in recent years, sparking outrage. As the Indian police charged at protestors with batons and tear gas, some retaliated by throwing stones.
