Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey has brought in more than a half billion dollars in ticket sales in less than two weeks. NPR's Bob Mandelo has more. Perhaps appropriately for a tale of a mythical Greek hero who wandered the ancient world for decades. The Odyssey is proving to have what the film industry calls "lakes". Where most blockbusters drop by about 50 percent in
their second weekend, this epic adventure is off by just 19 percent. It is expected to take in
$87 million in North America and another 128 million overseas, which means that after zipping past half a billion dollars in ticket sales on Friday, it will end this weekend with a 10-day total of almost $640 million worldwide. That's a faster box office base than any previous Christopher Nolan film, including Oppenheimer and his Batman films, and it suggests the Odyssey will become the filmmaker's third film to top a billion dollars in ticket sales, Bob Mandelo and PR News.
