President Trump says the talks with Iran are ongoing, despite the fact that Iran says that's not true. As NPR's Daniel Kurtz-Lavin reports, it's part of a months-long back and forth about what's going on between the countries in a war that's now more than five months-long. "Over the weekend, Trump said he would hold off a new strikes on Iran saying that
new talks would start Monday, but Iran has since denied any direct talks with U.S. when a reporter asked about that contradiction from suggested that Iran was lying. "For some reason, when they're talking, they don't like saying that they're talking." The Iran Foreign Ministry has said the country is talking to Oman about reopening the state of Hormuz temporarily.
The U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and mid-June in the hopes of ending the conflict, but a ceasefire collapsed in early July when Iran struck commercial ships and the U.S. retaliated.

committee, are dropping their objections to advance the nomination of acting attorney-general Todd Blanch. NPR's Cloudy Grisola's reports, that could clear the way for Blanch's nomination to reach the Senate floor. The Republican members of the Senate judiciary committee say they lifted their objections
after acting attorney-general Todd Blanch issued a written order rescinding a $1.8 billion
anti-weaponization fund. John Cornen of Texas and Tom Tillis of North Carolina, who were both in their final terms, say the order also limits the scope of attacks immunity provision that's part of a broader government deal for President Trump reached earlier this year. While the move could clear the way for Blanch's nomination to head to the Senate
floor, it's unclear if Blanch has secured enough votes there for his confirmation. Some legal experts have also raised concern over the deal's validity since Trump and other defendants have not signed off on the order. Glorgedy Salis and Bionos. While fire is continued to rage across the Western U.S., about 67,000 people had to flee
their homes around Spukan, Washington, from three major fires. At least 600 homes, businesses, and other structures have been destroyed.
