President Trump took a secret flight out of Turkey last month after Israel warned the U.S. of an Iranian threat of attack. NPR's Daniel Estrin reports that, according to a person, familiar with the matter." Israel had intelligence of a possible threat of Iranian missiles toward Air Force One and shared that intelligence with the U.S.
According to a person briefed on the matter, not authorized to speak publicly. The warning prompted Trump to be secretly flown out of Turkey on a different plane, Air Force One flew separately.
That news was first reported by the Washington Post, when asked about it late Tuesday,
“Trump said he was following instructions from the Secret Service.”
This comes amid rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with no progress toward re-opening the straight-of-form moves. Daniel Estrin and PR news, Tel Aviv. President Trump imposed 50% tariffs on a slew of Canadian goods last month. He'll take effect next week, unless the country strike a deal. Richard Haller from North country public radio reports.
"If you mile south of the Canadian border and renseller falls New York, James Putman owns a building supply business that sells plywood. He says that if these tariffs really do move forward, they are in trouble." That's going to affect us tremendously. I mean, if things bump up 50%, that means we have to add on 50%.
Amy Magnus is a customs broker based in Vermont and helps businesses calculate tariffs when shipping across the border.
She says she's never seen anything like this before in her 40 years of experience.
"You do have, let's say, all these shipments of ice-cleans that you want to bring into
“the United States, bring them in right now, because right now, the 50% duty isn't in effect."”
Magnus says she's worried, these new tariffs will create a colder relationship between Canada and the U.S. For MPR News, I'm Richard Haller and Canton, New York. "File fires have burned more than six million acres across the country this year, most of them in the west.
And PR's Kirk Sigler reports the traditional summer fire season is only about halfway over." Half of the some 100 out of control wildfires in the U.S. right now are burning in the northwest, the top priority for firefighters are two 100,000 acre plus fires in Oregon in Washington.
Washington's Public Lands Commissioner Dave Up the Grove says crews are making progress in Spokane where whole neighborhoods were leveled last week. "We have a long way to go. That's why I need your help.

Immigration and customs enforcement is planning to spend up to $20 million on thousands

It's the first day of school in Los Angeles, NPR, Sequoia Carillo reports the new school year is marking a big shift for the nation's second largest school district. "First graders, kindergartners, and preschoolers in the Los Angeles Unified School District will have no screen time in their classes starting this semester." LSUSD is the largest district so far to roll out limits on screen time for its students,
joining a growing number of states and districts through placing caps on digital learning. The change comes after the school board passed a resolution earlier this year to limit screen time for all of the districts, more than 400,000 students. By November, the district says all elementary school students will have limited screen time, and the intent to roll out limits for middle and high school students throughout the school year.
