Live from NPR news in New York City, I'm Duahli Psychou Tao.

President Trump's son-in-law and envoy Jared Kushner met today with top Hamas leadership

from more than two hours in Egypt.

He'll head next to Jerusalem for scheduled talks with Israel's Prime Minister and

Pierre's Daniel Estren reports on U.S. struggles to advance a post-war plan for Gaza. An official with knowledge of the meetings spoke anonymously to divulge details. The official said Kushner wants to advance a new road map for Gaza. For Hamas to give up its control of Gaza to a transitional Palestinian committee to begin the process of giving up its weapons to get an international stabilization forced to enter

Gaza and to get the Israeli military to gradually withdraw from Gaza. Hamas said it supports the U.S. backed plan. Israel has publicly rejected the plan, saying Hamas needs to completely demilitarize before Israel withdraws its troops. A group of mid-East countries, including Saudi Arabia and the ceasefire mediators, Qatar

and Egypt, said "Israel now bears responsibility for obstructing peace efforts." Daniel Estren and PR news, Tel Aviv. Hours before annual joint military exercises between the U.S. and South Korea begin, President

Trump has ordered the Secretary of War to "substantially reduce the war games."

He cited the high cost of the old chief freedom shield exercises in a truth-social media post announcing the request as in PR's Jaclyn Diaz reports. Trump said he's not happy with the current arrangement with South Korea. So he says he's instructing Secretary of Defense Pete Heggseth reduce the joint military exercises.

The U.S. military in South Korea have been close allies for decades, and these drills were a regular occurrence, and the latest were said to begin on Monday. But Trump said these exercises were expensive. He also said he was motivated to reduce these drills because of his positive relationship with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un.

And mentioned that Seoul hasn't helped with the Iran War. Jaclyn Diaz and PR news. Flood waters are beginning to recede in parts of Indiana, where at least seven people have

died after record flooding, and President Lee's duster reports.

The Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hawkset says the city is experiencing its most severe flooding in more than 30 years. The Indianapolis Department of Public Works says some of the flood waters have started to recede, and the city has reopened some floodgates. While some of the worst hit areas are beginning to recover, severe weather is expected

to impact the region again through Sunday night. President Trump also approved an emergency declaration for Indiana. Kim Jong-un says federal disaster assistance is available to support response efforts. Sean DeLisa Duster and PR news. Tropical Storm Lala is now moving away from Hawaii.

This is NPR news from New York City. Police in the Spanish Enclave of Seyut have arrested nearly 300 migrants trying to cross into the Spanish city from Morocco.

It was the second mass migrant crossing in less than two weeks, following false social

media videos that encouraged migrants and their families to breach this poor supporter. Today hundreds of migrants staged a rally to demand asylum from Spain. A four-time all-star left-hander, who won 288 major league games over three decades, and whose name is synonymous with a groundbreaking elbow surgery, has died at the age of 83. The Los Angeles Dodgers called Tommy John and exceptional pitcher, who was impacted both on and

off the field, has been felt by ball players of all ages as Steve Fetterman reports. In 1974, Tommy John pitching for the L.A. Dodgers tore the older collateral ligament in his elbow, and the past had been career-ending. But Dr. Frank Job, who worked with the Dodgers, had an idea, replaced the torn ligament with a tendon from the opposite arm.

Steve Lombardo was a young doctor in the operating room.

Tommy knew it was something that never been done before, and he had faith and trust in Dr.

Job. The procedure worked in a revolutionized modern sports medicine. John came back in one more than 160 games. What's now called Tommy John Surgery has been performed thousands of times since, on such pitching grates as Justin Verlander, John Smoltz, and Showhail Tony.
