Reports of poor conditions aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, during its record deployment

out to sea, could lead to future consequences for the U.S. Navy, according to one Democratic lawmaker. And here, Shondolee Stuster has more. Arizona Senator Rubin Gaego, a Democrat and Marine veteran, told ABC on Sunday the reports of poor conditions aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, will hurt morale and cause people

to lead the Navy. Right now, the aircraft carrier's going to go under a lot of maintenance. You're going to have problems with retention once people get back and family start meeting again.

They're going to say, "Do I want to stay in the Navy?

You're going to have some of the most experienced men and women. They're going to take a lot of their technical skills and walk away." There are reports of plumbing problems, food shortages, and declining mental health among crewmembers on the carrier, which has been deployed to sea for more than eight months. Defense Secretary Pete Heksev has also pushed back on reports of poor conditions.

Another carrier, the U.S.S. George Washington, is headed toward the Middle East to replace the ship. Shondolee Stuster and PR news. In Wisconsin, the Ukrainian festival in Milwaukee is marking its 12th year. Jack Warmock reports the festival has shifted focus since Russia started its invasion

Michael Sullivan has more. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the epicenter of the quake was off the northern coast of the island of Flores in the east of the country at a depth of roughly six miles. A tsunami warning was issued then cancelled roughly two and a half hours later. But authorities say they've been hundreds of aftershocks and more than 5,000 people have

been evacuated from their homes. It's unclear how many more remain buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Indonesia is an archipelago of some 17,000 islands and more than 280 million people that sits

along the seismically active rig of fire where volcanic eruptions and earthquakes are fairly frequent. For NPR news, a Michael Sullivan in Shanghai, Thailand. You're listening to NPR news from Washington. The Los Angeles Dodgers say Tommy John, the left-handed pitcher who won nearly 300 major

league games, has died. He was 83. He would have those games after recovering from career saving elbow surgery that's named for him. John was 31 years old when he toured the owner collateral ligament in his pitching elbow

in 1974, a deathnell for pitcher's careers to that point. He pitched for 26 seasons and was a four-time all-star with a record of 288 to 231 and a 3.34 ERA during a career that stretched from 1963 to 1989. He pitched for the Dodgers Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox, the Yankees, California Angels, and the Oakland A's.
