Wilson attended Jackson State University before moving to New York. They are she emerged as one of the most celebrated and unconventional jazz vocalist of her generation. Wilson won two Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album. In 2022 she was named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master.
