Thank you and enjoy the show. Hello and welcome to DSR Daily. I'm David Rothkopf. I'm joined by Riley Fassler. I'm in the Stein.
We're going to look at a couple of the big stories from the past 24 hours.
“Where are there any big stories in the past 24 hours?”
Boy, we're there. A negotiating team from the US and Iran are expected to return to Islamabad this week to resume peace talks following a weekend stalemate in the Pakistani capital. The push for new diplomacy comes as Washington initiated. What did JD events have a brunch to get back for?
I don't know. I mean, he'd like couldn't stay another day. But three days later, we're going to send a team.
He's clearly never read the art of the deal.
No, seriously. Yeah, no, it's true. He hasn't. There are all these books out there. I'm like Trump's magnificent negotiating genius.
“Yeah, okay, right. Guy doesn't even know the difference between Jesus and his doctor.”
But anyway, go on. Well, Trump's blockade has drawn a sharper rhetoric from Iran and condemnation from China. Signs of continuing engagement have helped to benchmark oil prices. A dip below $100 a barrel. Thank God.
Despite a fragile two week ceasefire, largely holding President Trump remains firm.
That any potential agreement must include the total removal of enriched nuclear
material for Iran and unless you're of course in Lebanon. Yeah, right. I mean, they don't care about Lebanon. Because BB is whispering into his ear the whole time. The Wall Street Journal today seemed to indicate that there are others whispering into his ear too,
including according to Wall Street Journal article. The Saudis are saying, please don't block case. Please don't do this. This is just going to make our life more difficult. And given that there are much of countries that imports along the Persian Gulf,
including the Saudis, the Qataris, the Emirates. I guess the Amani is evident both sides. You know, they're concerned about that and the specific concern is that as you do the blockade, it gives more control to the Iranians and some of the narrowest parts of the straight. And that makes things more difficult.
So the blockade may actually, like everything else we've done, weaken our negotiating position because our friends and allies are saying, please don't do that. So what's going to happen? People keep asking me this question.
I keep, I don't know why because I've grayed. Well, he's going to know the answer to this question. Here's the answer to this question. The United States is going to fold. It is going to get a deal.
It is going to be less good than the JCPOA was in 2015. It is not going to be the terms that Trump wants. It is not going to be getting rid of all their enriched uranium. It is going to involve giving Iran back sanctioned money. It is going to, in fact, probably give Iran more money than they got when their assets were
unfrozen during the JCPOA process. And the whole result of this big costly war, which will cost the US billions of dollars and lives and cost lives in Lebanon.
“And we're over, I think we're approaching 3,500 lives in Iran.”
The whole thing will be the US will have a less leverage. And our national interest will be less well served. And the region will be less stable than they were before. Billions of dollars later, complete fee ask go. There is an article in the New Republic, which suggests that this is the biggest strategic
Blunder in US history. It's not. And we talk a little bit about that on our need to know, I decided yesterday, with Joe Serencian and John Wolfstall, nuclear experts, because the biggest strategic
Blunder in the US history is the amount of money that we have wasted on defen...
on old systems that will not be used, that have not advanced our interest,
that don't help us solve the kind of problems that we've got. Instead of investing that in the sources of American strength, like science, technology, R&D, infrastructure, education, and so forth. And because we have allocated our assets badly, we have created opportunities for others to surpass us as China has done in area after area after area,
because they have invested the money they had, which was less money. More wisely. And a lot of strategic blunders, they don't look like wars. They look like numbers on a balance sheet. Who needs education or infrastructure?
Well, we certainly don't. I mean, the thing is, if the president of the United States is elected,
and they look at the polling results, and it says here,
the least educated people elect him, then he says things like, which Trump has said, educated people don't like me. And so he fights education, tries to destroy the department of education. That seems to be where he's at, you know, and if you look at what Trump has done,
whether it's investment in medical researchers, scientific research, or overspending on the military, or cutting back on how we've protected our natural resources in the United States, or making us more dependent on volatile oil and other fossil fuel markets, or turning away the people who want to come study here and give us more brain power. Everything he's done contributes to this bigger strategic blunder,
which makes the United States less able to compete in the world of tomorrow.
“And that's what it's about, folks, as we talked about in the past couple of days here.”
It's about the future versus the past, Trump and the whole mega movement
is trying to drag us into the past and has no real concern about the future, because he's an 80 year old narcissist. There is no future. All he cares about is power right now. So the rest of us have got to, have got to lead the shift in focus to the future.
Sorry, sorry. You were reading a story and you triggered me. Yeah, I was just pointing out that we have door-dash, so we don't need infrastructure or education. Oh my god, yeah, you did that on purpose,
because Trump had this door-dash photo op yesterday. The whole purpose of which, you know, was to let us know that he wanted to get rid of taxes on tips of the old lady who was delivering the door-dash when he had more money to pay for her husband's cancer therapy.
“But is that the way it works in every other OECD country, guys?”
Just a question. Is that how it works in other countries? I think so. No. Okay, let's try again.
No, it's not. Of course it's not. In every other country, if you have cancer, they take care of you because health is a human right, right? Health care is a human right.
Take the fault. I, I, I like the fault. I like that my grandmother used to say that a lot. I like the fault. And that was all she would say.
She didn't speak much English. So she would just hear the news and she checked her head and go,
“I think about she going to another room.”
We'll try to evoke more of that reaction. From me? Other stories, yes. Storm, you're trying to torment me? Okay.
Fine. Elder abuse. Go on. Representative Tony Gonzalez announced he will step down from office after facing mounting pressure over sexual misconduct allegations.
Oh, yeah. I use scumbag. Anyway, yes, go on. Shortly after Eric Swallwell said he would also resign. Gonzalez had already ended his reelection campaign following and admitted a fair with a staffer
while new allegations and renewed scrutiny intensified calls for his removal. The developments come as bipartisan support grew in Congress for possible expulsions of both lawmakers. Yeah. I mean, you know, if you're looking for the corrupt lawmakers to expel out to expel. There's so many to choose from.
But right at the top of this list is this guy Tony Gonzalez who's horrible. Glanticy Eric Swallwell made the right decision on this.
It sends a good message.
What doesn't send the message to me that I really buy is, you know, these Republicans I've seen on recently saying,
“yeah, let's get rid of that Eric Swallwell.”
There's no place for. The rapists in the United States government people who do sex abuse should be hung. And you know, like, hello, attention. Yeah, like, you know, who's going to tell him? Um, but, you know, that guy, that guy is going to remain right where he is until he is escorted from the White House.
Feet first. I'm Teresa and my influence on all entrepreneurs started a choppy fight.
For the first day and the platform makes me no problem.
I have many problems, but the platform is not one step away. I have the feeling that Choppy fights are made of continually optimised. Everything is super integrated and balanced. And the time and the money that I can't invest in from there. For everyone in the vaccine.
Now the costs of the test are on Choppy fights.de. I'm Teresa and my influence on all entrepreneurs started a choppy fight. I'm the result of the choppy fight. I'm the result of the choppy fight. And the platform makes me no problem.

Everything is super integrated and balanced.
And the time and the money that I can't invest in there. For everyone in the vaccine. Now the costs of the test are on Choppy fights.de. Speaking of that guy, President Donald Trump has refused to apologize for his public criticism. This is something Pope Leo is citing the pontiffs opposition to the war in Iran.
And accusing him of being weak on crime. Which is right. I don't really know if maybe he doesn't know what the Pope does. He certainly doesn't even know a year ago he did a picture of himself as the Pope. But what is that?
“I mean, are there secret Vatican detectives that would make a great law and order?”
Law and order Vatican? Yeah. You know, it would be awesome. Right, when they sort of go around and at one minute you think they're, you know, a lovely Italian man's senior, but then they crack the murder.
I mean, what is Trump talking about? The tension between the two leaders escalated as Trump claimed the US-born Pope. So only elected to counter his presidency in urge him to stop acting like a politician. Addressing a controversial social media posted depicted him as a Jesus-like figure. Trump defended the image by stating he mistakenly believed it showed him as a doctor helping the red cross.
A Pope Leo pushed back against the attacks, a certain of his calls for peace, our gospel driven. And he does not fear the administration's rhetoric as the war enters its seventh week. I mean, come on. First of all, a doctor? That's what a doctor looks like.
Let me tell you something.
“If Donald Trump, the last time he went to Walter Reed Medical Center.”
Saw a doctor that looked like that. He was in a coma, right? He was dying. He was looking into the light. You know, if you've got figures like that approaching you in the hospital,
you're a worse shape than you think.
But the reality is, of course, he was just lying.
And it was a dumb lie that he has come up with to cover up for this thing, which really pissed off a lot of people because, you know, blasphemy and all of a sudden, you had all these mega people yesterday saying things like, "Oh, maybe he's the Antichrist." What?
Oh, now you think he's the Antichrist? You know, when he killed 14 million people by getting rid of a idea, or when he took away your grandma's medical coverage, so he could give a bigger bonus to, you know, Jeff Bezos. That wasn't the Antichrist.
The only people who defended it are some of these Republicans, who are, there's a, there's a Ohio Senator, Riley, named Marena, who said that the problem was entirely with the Pope and he shouldn't be political and that if his mother could see the Pope being so political, it would just torture it.
And I was like, what? Did these, it says to me one thing, none of these people actually believe in the religion they espouse. Because if they actually were practicing Catholics who cared about Catholicism and Catholic doctrine, they would not be saying this shit about the Pope in order to defend a guy like Donald Trump.
You know, they've got an exactly backwards. They are the fucking minions of Satan, not to overstate the point. In that particular world view, but, you know, I got a little bit of a spoiler alert for you.
In this battle between the Pope and Trump, guess who wins?
One of them is right. One of them is wrong. One of them is a good person. One of them is a sleaze bag. One of them has a billion followers.
One of them has about 30% of the US electorates, so what is that? 360 million people, about 180 million people vote. And he's getting, you know, what? 40, 50 million who still care about him? Now, this is not even a fair fight.
Trump heard himself. Just like he did the last week with the comment about wiping Iranian civilization off the map. And I think for those of you who are looking at this through a slightly more objective lens,
“I think the thing that you need to look at is,”
why is the president saying absolutely crazy extreme stuff more frequently? That, I mean, that's the thing.
He's always said something, but it's happening more and more often now.
He is more and more detached from reality. He has less and less of a filter on what he says. Those are signs of dementia folks, and that's what's happening. The US military carried out another strike on a suspected drug trafficking boat in the eastern Pacific, killing two people as part of an ongoing campaign that has lasted more than seven months.
The operations supported by Donald Trump have killed at least 170 people, though officials have provided little evidence that the targeted vessels were actually carrying drugs. The strikes have drawn criticism and legal concerns, especially as the US continues them alongside its involvement in the Iran conflict. I mean, this is just murder.
I mean, you know, where we serve shrugging off, because it's like five stories ago or ten stories ago or twenty stories ago. But the United States is just murdering people without due process, because they're in boats that they think may be smuggling something.
“And we could be right, we could be wrong, but guess what?”
They were arrested by the police for smuggling. There's no death penalty for that. They'd go to jail. But we don't care. It's too hard. Too much, you know, process involved.
So there we go. And Trump was like saying, hey, we're going to do this in the Persian Gulf, too. Crazy, murderous, extra legal, anti-constitutional. The horrible behavior. So you're getting me down here.
It's just supposed to be a warm sunny day in Washington, and it's supposed to make me happy. Do anything, rather, that'll make me happy. Maybe, Prime Minister Mark Carney's liberal party has secured a slim majority in the house of Commons after projected victories in the three key abile actions across Ontario and Quebec.
This majority, the first in Canadian history achieved through a combination of
bio-election winds and a five floor crossing defections. Brits government 174 of the 343 seats, and the power to pass legislation without opposition support until 2029. While Carney interpreted the results as a sign of public trust in his administration's plan, conservative leader Pierre Palavra criticized the majority as a product of
backroom deals that circumvented the general electorate. Well, well, well, Pierre Palavra, well, well, well. You know, you've said, I'm going to be the Donald Trump candidate. Just as Donald Trump was becoming the worst political brand in the world. And you have lost.
Meanwhile, Mark Carney, you know, got perfect, but he's real smart. And he means, well, and he tries to do the right thing. And more often than not, he does the right thing. He's the kind of leader we, I mean, oh, my God. You know, I would, if we can have Mark Carney as the president of the United States
instead of Donald Trump, I, I don't know, I'd give him Texas. I don't know that they'd want it. Florida, maybe. Give him Florida. The Canadians love Florida.
Every winter they go and they get on a plane. And they're like, what are they called? Snowbirds, didn't they?
“When you lived in Florida, men are worth their like Canadians everywhere?”
I do.
To be honest with you, I never met any Canadians.
My, the beach town that I'm from was full of people from the Midwest. So like people from Indiana. It was like a hundred percent Indiana Midwest snowbirds. People like Riley. Yeah.
How dare you? I see a little bit of Indiana. That's a difference. Wait a minute. Indiana, Ohio.
Michigan is practising my wife's for Michigan.
Michigan is Canada.
And if you don't believe it, go there now.
You know, it's cold. It's horrible. But anyway, the point is this. That's not it. The point is Mark Carney is good.
And I would take him as president.
“If we have to give up Florida in order to get it, I'm for.”
Okay.
So please write your, write your senators and congressmen.
Okay. That's enough. That's enough. That gets you to where we got to go. If you haven't listened to the need to know,
we did yesterday. Go listen to the need to know. I did a really fun podcast.
“What the daily beast yesterday, the regular daily beast podcast.”
I do every Monday with. Join a coals. And so if you haven't listened to that, go listen to that. It's not only good and hard hitting. But it's, it's actually the parts of it are pretty funny.
And so it would be entertaining. And you could get a little bit of a bounce in your step. Meanwhile, we will be here working hard.
“On getting all those podcasts out that we do each and every day.”
To provide you with expert insight into what the house going on. And we'll be producing those throughout the rest of the week. And won't that be your good fortune. And won't it be our good fortune to be joined by. What a perfect marriage of interest.
In any of it. Thank you all very much. Bye-bye. I'm Theresa and my experience in all entrepreneurs started a choppy fight.
For when the choppy fights are already the first day.
And the platform makes me no problem. I have a lot of problems, but the platform is not a step away. I have the feeling that choppy fights are made of continually optimised. Everything is super easy, integrated and balanced. And the time and the money that I can't wait to invest in there.
For everything in the vacuum. Now the cost of the test of choppy fights.de.
