Hello and welcome to the DSR Daily. It's Monday. We're ready to go. I'm David Rothkov. I'm joined by Riley Fester and Minnesota,
and we are going to get you into the week with high energy. Right, guys? That's right, David. I'm loving this energy from you. Yeah, no of this.
“Look, you know, the last night there was a UFC thing.”
Exciting, bright lights, Washington. Maybe there would be lightning. Maybe people would be killed. Who knew? And the president was there.
He's so vitally, so young. He's like, he's manly. That's what I like.
We finally have a president who's got like testosterone.
Of course, he got him open. No blood. Just testosterone. Pouring out because he's a man's man. And we live in a world where finally a man can be a man.
He is just after being feminized and go and cook and take out the garbage. Ugh. Yay. Right. That's to be a woman.
All we do is cook and take out the garbage. That's your role. You are help mates. That's what it says in the Bible. Have you ever read the Bible?
Not as closely in appears as you have. I don't know. That's what I read online. What I read when I read online. I read something the other day and it said,
Well, you know, Adam had a first wife.
And her name was Lilith. And she thought she was an equal. So God got rid of her and created Eve. So that Eve was created of Adam. And so Eve was subordinate to Adam.
And that was the true role a woman should put. And I was like, what? What? I'm revealing my wokeness. I want to come out high energy.
Woke is low energy. Woke at being woke is super low tea, right, Riley? That's right. That's why I hate woke. Because you're high tea.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Welcome to high tea at the DSR network. Let's go.
Let's dive right in. High energy conversation about Lilith is not what I thought. This Monday morning was bringing a boy in my glass. That it did. Yeah.
Well, that's why we're here. We're almost full of surprises. All right. Well, I'm going to get us started off today with a story contains stories. A story that contains no surprises actually going ahead.
Absolutely zero shot.
The United States and Iran reached a major breakthrough to permanently.
Oh, come on. Military operations.
“Are you reading, are you reading this off of a White House press release?”
A major breakthrough. Okay. Go on. Don't add a little judge to this 18 article. I said rising.
Um, they reached a breakthrough to permanently halt military operations and prepare for a formal signing this Friday and Switzerland to reopen the blockcated straight of Formus. The initial packed immediately drove down global oil prices by over $3 a barrel. Though President Trump clarified that the US naval blockade will remain in place until the official diplomatic summit. However, the fragile truce faces immediate hurdles because of course it does including
a taking 60 day deadline to resolve the fate of Iran's highly enriched uranium and ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon that threatened to derail the regional ceasefire. Yeah. Okay. So let's translate that into language that all of us can understand that it's also informed by the trip.
There is no ceasefire. There is a proposed memorandum of understanding to be signed on Friday, which will achieve no major breakthroughs on anything.
Is instead designed to reopen traffic within the straight of Formus.
So the gas prices will come down a little bit. So the Trump will not feel the political pressure is currently feeling because inflation is psychic. What he doesn't of course realize is that gas prices will not come down quickly for average people,
“even if they come down a little bit in global oil markets because that's not how it works, right?”
It takes a while for the things to be passed through. Also, some prices will not come down at all. Why?
Because when they open up the straight, what are they going to put through the straight first?
You know what is it? What is it? 188 or some of the number of ships that are blocked in there. First one's through are going to be big super tankers and oil tankers. Last one's through are going to be ships full of fertilizer.
What does fertilizer do? And helps you grow food. Not having that out there is impacting crops now and over the next several months. So food prices can remain high for long time. Okay.
“Well, still having the straight open is a good thing, right?”
It means that it's free. We're back to where we were on February 25th. Trump wants to be congratulated for that. Who cares? You know, at least he's undone some of his damage, right?
Maybe not so fast. Because in the first instance, whether the straight stays open or not, now Iran has the leverage over the straight because of this conflict. And Iran, in the past couple of days, has said, no, no, the way this is going to end up is we're going to coordinate with, oh, man, what happens with the straight?
And has not ruled out the idea of tolls for the straight? Or may just get paid some big lump sum as a result of the leverage that they've got.
Because one of the purported elements of this deal is that Iran will get $24 billion in frozen assets released,
some of which may have to be released before they sign the deal. But that there is some talk that there's another $300 billion, who knows where that comes from, to reconstruct Iran. So you can say, well, there's no toll, but we're paying them $324 billion. And then maybe that sounds a little bit like a toll by another name.
What about the news? Well, Trump touted over the weekend that he has kindly got the big deal that Iran has committed not to build a nuclear weapon. Well, folks, let's revisit that too. Okay, shall we?
I'll be brief. In 1970, before the next one, their last title. In 1970, Iran signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, which said they were not going to seek a new. Okay, that was 56 years ago. In 2015, the opening part of the JCPOA agreement between the P5+1 signatories was that Iran would not seek a new.
Iran's position has always been that it would not seek a new, getting it to accept that position is not a change.
What happens to the enriched uranium?
“Well, it's first of all, remember that the reason they have so much enriched uranium is that Trump tore up the JCPOA,”
because he couldn't stand Obama having had any kind of success at all, because he's mental about Obama. But they now have this and what is going to happen with it? Are they going to give it up even if they give it all up? They have the scientists, they have the centrifuges, they have to know how. They know much better now than they did when Trump tore up the agreement, how you make a new.
They are much closer to being able to hit a button and restart any time they want furthermore, because of the nature of the attacks that Trump released against them. They now have group people within the country saying, "Oh, no, we definitely need a new more than ever," because that's the only way to stop such attacks in the future. What else is the US allegedly agreeing to in here?
To remove its blockade, okay, fine, that was a double blockade goofy idea anyway, but to remove military from the region? What military? We've had military in the region miles from Iran for a long, long time, is Trump agreeing to draw that down. Furthermore, there are provisions that Iranians consider extremely important,
that Israel pull out of Lebanon. What Israel has said in the past 24 hours, they're not going to do that.
That could blow up the deal at any moment anyway,
which means that this whole thing, even it is arrived at, is going to be super fragile. But the 60-day thing, which will undoubtedly have a provision that it can be extended, is just a punt into the future to deal with the really hard issues. So we haven't dealt with any of the really hard issues.
We've basically gotten back to the status quo,
except it's not the status quo, because we're going to pay them all a whole bunch of money and agree to a whole bunch of concessions on our part. Now, what do you call it when you launch a war? And you don't achieve any of your strategic goals, and the enemy ends up in a stronger strategic position,
“and you have to pay them to stop fighting.”
What is that called? Riley, do you have a name for that? It's another losing to me. Losing excellent. Riley has degrees in form policy, yes, losing surrender. What Trump is doing is surrendering to a much weaker foe,
because he blundered into an illegal war where he committed war crimes. And once the U.S. to pay for it, undoubtedly he'll go to some of our allies. Good luck at the G7 summit, which also begins today,
because he's undoubtedly going to go to them and say, "Well, the only way we're going to have peace is paying all of this off." Okay, so I've been ranting about this. I wrote an article about this at the Daily Beast, in which I liken Trump wanting credit for this
to a man wanting credit for stopping beating his wife. You can go and read that. But there is an element of this, that I don't think anybody discusses enough. And that is Trump in one of his tweets over the week and said,
"And we're going to have better relations with him run than anybody." And this is the key. This is what happened with Venezuela. Trump talks about Venezuela. What a great thing.
That was, except what happened in Venezuela. We went in. We pulled a guy out. We then said, "Give us some oil and we'll have a good relationship with you." Did we advance democracy in Venezuela?
No. Did we advance the case of the Nobel Prize winner to actually gave her Nobel Prize to Trump,
“because she was a democracy in advocate in Venezuela?”
No. Did we support the regime that was previously our enemy in Venezuela? Yes. Because Trump doesn't care about democracy. He doesn't care about anything except what Trump looks like.
So if Iran strikes a deal with us, and Trump can say, "Hey, I struck a successful deal." He is going to reduce pressure on Iran under democracy in human rights issues. He is going to embrace autocratic leaders in Iran. And that's going to put him at odds with our other allies in the region.
But of course, it's not in our interest. The whole reason the U.S. has been upset about Iran is that this regime, this deocracy there is not only been a threat to a region, but there are bad things happening to the people of Iran.
He doesn't care. He just wants out. He just wants to say, "I got a better deal than Obama." But what do we know? He didn't.
He's never going to get out of this.
It's going to remain an open wound for a while. And this is all a sham.
“So, Mina, it was not a big breakthrough.”
Sorry. Sorry to ruin your Monday morning. Consider my Monday ruined. I know. I knew.
I knew the minute you showed up here at work because I would somehow ruin it. But let's see if Riley's got something better. Our idea for your podcast is "Fresh" and "Knakiges Gemüse" from Aldi.
It's always good. It's always good. It's always much better. I've always said "Fresh" for Aldi. To Aldi price.
This week. "Cesbrisangold Kiwi". This week for 85 cents. Or "Dunkletafeltrauben". 500 grams for only €1.79.
In a decade, many of you are under arrest in your Aldi north for years. And you are going to leave. Aldi. Good, just for Aldi.
I sure don't. Oh. Okay. Well, then let's just wrap up right here. According to a new report from the New York Times,
internal White House tensions flared last spring as immigration hardliner Stephen Miller pushed to suspend habeas corpus rights for unauthorized immigrants. A radical measure that staff secretary will
"sharf" warned would evaluate the constitution. Senior officials including J.D. vans also fiercely debated invoking the insurrection act to deploy the military against domestic immigration
protesters following the fatal law enforcement shootings in Minnesota. While internal legal warnings and political concerns
ultimately stalled these specific proposals,
both options remain active considerations for a Westwing eager to test the boundaries of executive power. Test the boundaries of executive power. That's so sweet, Riley.
It's such a nice way to put it.
They hate the constitution.
They don't care about the constitution. They think they have the right to suspend the constitution because they want it. You know, and it's not just in this story. You know, the other day, Mark Wayne Mullin,
our secretary of Homeland Security, got on the tube over the weekend. And he said, "Well, you know, we may have to send troops into these sanctuary cities because they cheat and their anti-constitutional.
So we should be able to do whatever we want the constitution began."
“And it's like, "Yeah, that's what they say all the time."”
They're constantly trying to test this idea that they have the ability to say, "Well, there's an emergency based on our own judgment and therefore we don't need the constitution anymore." And saying that they want to invoke
the insurrection act is just a dimension of that. So, you know, while this should not be surprising, it should be deeply alarming. Because if they had the conversation once,
what do you think the conversation's going to sound like in the fall when it looks like they're going to lose power? And they're going to be all these investigations and Trump's going to get impeached again, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
They've been all involved in all sorts of shady deals. What do you think it's going to be when it's, well, either I'm going to be investigated for a shady deal and go to jail, or maybe we could just erase this little bit of the constitution?
That's what we have to look forward to. And it is not pretty.
“Now, having said that, this is a big story.”
And you know what? It happened a while ago. And you know what? Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan knew about it and they saved it for their book.
Come on, folks. Haven't we seen this story enough? This is bad journalism. If you've got a story where in the White House, they're thinking of suspending the goddamn constitution,
you don't save it for your book, so you can make more money off of it. That's bullshit. It's bad journalism. And they deserve to get smacked around a little bit
in the court of public opinion. For continuing this model, which does not serve their readers or the profession or the country. In a French president, Ron faces a delicate diplomatic challenge
at this week's G7 summit for his primary goal. What is the challenge keeping Trump awake? There you go. It's definitely done. Engaged.
And preventing him from bailing out early. So yes, literally his job is to just keep him like a dog with a bone. It's a dog. It's a dog.
It's doing wake up. To appease the president, background one so far as to alter the summit's schedule around Trump's 80th birthday White House cage match and arrange a lavish dinner at the palace of Versailles.
The high stakes summit comes at a time of extreme European political weakness and will be dominated by urgent talks on the Ukraine war and escalating U.S. Iran conflict over the blockaded straight of hormones, as we mentioned earlier.
I mean, first of all, there will be shots of him falling asleep.
There are shots of him falling asleep at the UFC match last night. He is losing at his dying before our very eyes. Nobody wants to talk about it. We'll just say, oh yes, well, he's a little tired. He's has a busy schedule.
Still, he's extremely, when he sleeps, it's such a masculine sleep. He's such a manly sleeper. But having said that, he will undoubtedly try to get them involved in whatever his solution is to the war that he started.
They will tell him to go fuck off. He will undoubtedly put pressure on them to, you know, advance Putin's agenda in Ukraine. They will hopefully tell him to fuck off. It will not be productive.
The U.S. is now not seen as the indispensable ally of Europe, but is instead viewed as an unreliable, sometimes partner, led by an erratic kind of crazy old man, who is surrounded by a bunch of people who are supporting the far right in Europe, supporting, you know, pogroms in places like Northern Ireland.
“I think keeping this from being very contentious is going to be a problem,”
might Trump leave early for sure, for sure.
And that might Trump never actually arrive mentally, also for sure.
Rather British Prime Minister Kier-Starmer announced that the UK will ban children under 16 from using it major social media platforms, like TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram to protect them from harmful online content. Modeled after Australia's policy and force and will target non-compliant tech companies
With multimillion dollar fines, though critics will warn the move,
could it compromise user privacy or drive children to unregulated spaces?
“No, no. The proposal has drawn opposition from the US over potential free speech violations”
and economic burdens on American tech firms, but Starmer plans to discuss the child safety measures with the broad leaders at the G7 summit. I, you know, Trump is so in shock to all the tech firms and all the media companies that make money off of this thing that he will undoubtedly, you know, be an advocate and say, "Oh, no, you can't stop that. You can't stop that. That's against free speech."
Now, if you've got people speaking pro-immigration or being pro-democracy or being anti-Trump or being pro-people of color, we have to shut that down. That's a threat. That's terrorism. In fact, let's blow them up in their boat on the way to the meeting. This is, you know, a measure that probably is overdue. We regulate everything in the world in order to protect our children, protect our societies,
protect buildings from being burned down, protect our environment so far. Regulation is actually the state performing its duty to ensure stable, safe, prosperous society. And, you know, limiting the access of kids is already taking place because they're not allowed to see pornography, for example.
“They're not allowed to go drink, for example, et cetera, et cetera.”
So, this is just an extension of existing rules. And, frankly, it probably makes some degree of sense. Will kids work around it? Yeah. That's, of course, they will. In fact, it'll make it more exciting for them to go and get this stuff. But it was inevitable because there's a lot of medical data that shows that being, you know,
permanently online is terrible for not just, you know, for the behavior of kids. It actually does bad things to your brain. Uh, you know, let me be an exit. I offer myself up as an example for that medical science, can examine my brain afterwards, because I'm way too online.
Men is not. She is always just sitting in a corner reading the latest volume of
DustF ski from your library. Well, I'm just glad that this didn't happen in America because it would significantly impact my job as a lot of our listeners think that I'm anywhere from 12 to 15 years old. I probably would be worked. Wait, you're not.
You're not. You're not. I thought you were, you know, you have a generation beta. [laughter] I'll be on this podcast for a much longer one day.
Well, we'll protect you. Here in America, here in America, as, well, we'll treat you okay. Okay, let's see you guys. We have one more story. Yeah.
It's going to be very, it's going to use some very triggering language. I'm going to do a trigger warning to my trigger warning. We'll get through it. I promise. President Trump hosted an unprecedented UFC event on the White House self-launance.
They celebrate his 80th birthday. Yeah, happy birthday to you. Come on. Just hours after announcing an initial piece still to end the war with Iran. Why there was no peace deal.
There was a framework of a concept. Okay, go on. The seven-bout spectacle, which here's the trigger warning, included a shocking lightweight Championship win. How do you know?
How do you know? Did you watch it? Because a writer has told me that it was surprising. Oh, he was surprising. I believe them.
Yeah. Despite that, Andrew Heavy ethical scrutiny for featuring corporate sponsorships and cryptocurrency bonuses directly tied to the Trump family's private business interest.
“That's honestly the truly triggering part of it.”
While UFC chief Dana White insisted the $60 million production was an apolitical
celebration of national unity, which is hilarious. A writer's episode's poll revealed that only 16% of Americans deemed the cage match event appropriate for the executive mansion. Okay, for some, where can we send those people? Okay.
How do you conclude that this cage match with jumping motorcycles and totally corrupt where Trump owns part of the business? The business is profiting for being at the White House. It's being carried pay per view on a Trump family-friendly TV network, which is paramount plus, which is owned by the elephants, where, you know, apparently there was some scandal
story bubbling up, where Eric Trump's trying to, like, bet on the outcome of these events before they happen on poly-market or something, because he thinks they're all right, because, you know, maybe they're right. And, you know, it's vulgar, it's cheap, it's disgusting.
Worst, you know, I mean, they had military support this in a thousand differe...
The Air Force Thunderbirds flew overhead.
They had metal of honor winners marching alongside the combatants for these fights as they're coming in. Because that meant everybody in the audience who was in the military had to salute, because
“you have to salute a metal of honor winner.”
So, they were manipulated, the military, to turn this UFC thing into some quasi-military
thing. One of the fighters ended his fight by saying Michelle Obama was a woman. That's how you're bringing America together, Dana White. And another one of them gave what really appeared to be a Nazi salute. Are you surprised?
“This whole thing was disgusting from beginning to end, an embarrassment to the United States,”
profoundly corrupt people should go to jail.
And anybody who thinks this is appropriate for the White House has no values. No values, no values. Go away. We don't even need to hear your opinion. This debased the country. Trump loved it so much. He'd launched some social media post afterwards.
“And then said, you know what we're going to do in July for?”
We're going to make July for a thin to a Trump rally. I am going to be the headliner. I am going to give a big speech. Everybody will love that. Everything that America is about is embodied in my large,
turbulent orange frame decaying before you're very eyes. Maybe that's true. Hmm. Anyway, more on all this tomorrow. Because we're here every day this week,
bringing you the happy news from here in America's capital and around the country. Until then, thank you, Mita. Thank you, Riley. Bye-bye. [Music]
