“Hello and welcome to Words Matter, I am David Rothkuff in this week.”
As every week, I am joined by Norm Ornstein who knows more about what's going on in Washington and inside the minds of Washingtonians than all of their psychiatrists put together. But speaking of what's going on in Washington, Norm, I am looking at you here, you got a bandaid on your nose. What's going on?
People are going to ask, they want to know the care bank, or knows a lot.
Okay, well first let me say, it wasn't caused by Max Miller or Corey Mills.
You know the president says Max Miller is a wonderful guy and it's just allegation. It's interesting that it took his ex-father-in-law Senator Bernie Marino, who soiled himself, which is a regular recurrence and the ridiculous witch-hunt hearing with Anthony Fauci. It whose daughter had scolding water thrown on her was threatened, punched the daughters, their daughter, their daughter, apparently broken collarbone that he caused.
“Not the only one, he had abused a former fellow aide in the White House before.”
And Bernie Marino, whose daughter was treated that way, took weeks, months until yesterday to say, well, maybe he shouldn't be serving. But that's the side show. The reality here is that this bandaid is because I have a basil's hand, a basil cell, or Sonoma that's a term for a skin cancer.
It's not the most serious kind, but nothing you leave untouched. And they had to do a kind of surgery where they take off little layers at a time until it's gone. And then stitch it up so I have stitches underneath this. And I go through all of this because for everybody watching, or for those of you, listening, if you go out in the sun, put sunscreen on your face, that's, you know,
it's, you know, if I've gone out in the sun, I usually end up wearing long sleeves because
I don't want to have sun on my arms, but I'll put sunscreen on, but I don't always put
it on my nose. So do it. Make sure you do.
“I'm going to, I was planning literally and lying down in the sun after we're done here.”
Yes, and I am definitely going to think about that sunscreen thing. I mean, you know, me actually do it. My do. Do it. But, you know, go back to Marano, who's just a worm in every respect.
Yeah.
We're not going to get into it.
I got into it on this daily beast podcast. I do. If you want to listen, that goes to it. I didn't bring it up, but joining a calls the editor of the daily beast. Marano, not only did not stand up for his own daughter because he wants to be a party guy,
or do the right thing with Professor Max Miller quite apart from the fact that he was abusing his daughter or allegedly abusing his daughter and his granddaughter. But Marano had his own sex scandal that Miller has now brought up, you know, because Marano was like, you know, going or somebody using Marano's computer was looking for man on out on a gay website.
I love that. Excuse. Somebody using my computer. Yeah. Exactly.
Well, you got to be careful, Norm. There could be people using your computer. I just sleep walking when I went to the computer. Yeah. But Marano, because of his inclination, not to stand up for his own flesh and blood, definitely
falls into the category that you have named and now you own the name of a real Republican lookspedal. But if we, at this show, had a lookspedal of the week, and we probably should lookpedal of the week because you have, you have, you know, you know, own this term. I would nominate John Corne and Tom Tillis of the United States Senate, and I'm just going
To leave it there.
Do you agree with my nomination? I do. I think we probably need a lookspedal of the hour, not just because we have literal armies of lookspedals. But I agree with you on this one.
And, you know, let's go back through this. We had both Corne and Tillis. Both of whom have been, you know, shafted by Donald Trump, basically leaving their seats. Tillis often talking a good game.
And then it was, you know, first for Tillis, it was the bottom line is you have disrespected
the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, and the others whose names you have conveniently left out
“of any release of Epstein documents, you need to meet with them and assist with regard”
to Todd Blanch's nomination to be a Attorney General. And Blanch and his testimony said, "I can't meet with them. I can send representatives, but I can't." Then after it became clear that Tillis, like, voted against him if he didn't meet with them, met with some of these survivors and treated them like shit and completely dismissed
them. It was condescending and disgraceful. And that didn't stop Tillis from saying, "Well, that was pretty good. He met with them at least." Then you had Conan and Tillis saying, "You need to put in righty that you are going
to move away from this slush fund, while conveniently failing to hold us a requirement
“that he do away with this outrageous Trump is immune from any IRS judgment going back through”
his history when we know he is a tax evader involving well over a hundred million dollars
and really probably more of that he owes him taxes. They let that go." But then eventually, after saying he absolutely didn't need to, you could take his word for it. Todd Blanch said, "Okay, I signed it.
Conveniently left out of that is that part of this deal for this huge slush fund to pay off the thugs and murderers who stormed the capital on January 6th is that it has no impact until the agreed parties who were involved with this themselves sign off on it." In other words, "Unless and until Donald Trump says, "Okay, no slush fund, there is still the strong probability that there will be a slush fund, along with Trump basically screwing
American taxpayers having been a tax cheap. And they're still going to vote for it. Licks spittles one word that would apply. I'd use another term, coward, maybe moral coward." Yeah, even worse than that, they are discraces, they're complicit in this, this was all
Kabuki theater. Yes. There are two guys abused by Trump who said they were going to stand up. First of all, Todd Blanch should not be confirmed as Attorney General under any circumstances. He's Trump's lawyer, he's setting's Trump's lawyer, he gave a sweet heart deal to
Galane Maxwell, he's been behind the vindictive prosecution of Trump's enemies, he's been behind waves of obstruction of justice, a restructuring of the Justice Department to serve Trump, he is behind the Epstein cover-up in a way, no other person is, there is
“no way you should be, but they've said, "No, no, what we need is them to renounce this”
deal." Okay? Except what they've done doesn't renounce the deal, as you pointed out, also, they've started to award people money outside of the slush fund, they don't even need the slush fund to award money, they could award as much as they want.
And in terms of the tax deal, the bold stance that Cornean has pushed for is that the tax immunity only be for Trump his sons and the Trump organization, which is so fucking outrageous, it is one of the most corrupt acts, not in U.S. history, it's certainly on that list.
I've never seen from a government official where essentially they're saying, "I don't
have to pay taxes.", I don't have to behave like any other American, you can't touch me. Now, you know, the problem they've got is the first Democrat who gets elected is going to reverse it, they're not going to honor that agreement, it doesn't have legal standing anyway, a court has already said it was a fake agreement based on a fake lawsuit, but
It just proves that Blanche is a complete, co-opted, corrupt, you know, Trump...
And that Cornean and Tillis, for all their spine, are two, they're all part of it.
“Everybody's going, "Well, this is the Lickspittle Administration, led by the Lickspittles”
in every branch of government, and these guys should be the Lickspittles of the League." And let's also note that John Cornean, who was completely screwed by Trump, who endorsed one of the worst monsters on this planet, Ken Paxton, for the Texas Senate seat. John Cornean was Attorney General in Texas, was a judge, has a long career as a pretty substantial lawyer.
He knows as well or better than anybody, the bogus nature of this deal.
He knows that it's not worth the paper that Blanche is signing.
It's worth nothing, and that all of these payments out of taxpayer money to these criminals will go forward, and it hasn't stopped him from bowing down to this monster.
“And so, you know, one of the things that I said when the two of them were a little bit”
on the fence is, "Let's not forget the other Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, who didn't even raise a Kabuki attempt to shed some doubt on whether this horrible monstrous mystery is worth preserving in the most significant position of justice in America other than perhaps the Supreme Court.
They just went along to begin with, and you look at every one of these horrific, lawless, corrupt
monsters that they have confirmed, and you realize that there is not a single Republican in the Senate worth anything." I'm sorry to interrupt, but I really have to tell you about our sub-stack. The DSR Network sub-stack is the absolute best way to follow Deep State Radio.

Well, let's turn the subject. We've talked about the liquidals I'd like to keep this uplifting. So let's talk about Democrats a little bit, and I want to talk about a Democrat who's done real well this week, and who is actually being helped by the Trump administration. It is being pushed to the head of the list of potential Democratic candidates by the most strange
circumstances you can imagine, and that's Governor Andy Bashir of Kentucky. Because Andy Bashir of Kentucky is an effective governor, he's well-liked, but he's kind of born. You know, he's a very bland guy, and a lot of people who are evaluating, you know, the horse race and potential Democratic nominees, they were like, "This guy can't make it."
Because he's just too bored, and then somebody stepped into his rescue, and you know who that was, the late, great Mitch McConnell, because Mitch McConnell disappeared. Now we're going on like 50 days, he's disappeared, and Andy Bashir has stepped up, and called him out, and said he's got to produce himself, because, you know, we got to know whether he can serve, and he knows there's a political game being played here, and he's
gotten very tough in his language, and he sent a letter, and he said, you know, the stuff you guys are doing isn't good enough. I need to hear from the Senator verbally, and then, you know, they had this, you know, blew out that they have every year in Kentucky, kind of a big annual political barbecue
That they do on the first August of every year, and Bashir didn't go, but he ...
media shots at McConnell, at Rand Paul, at Andy Barr, congressman from Kentucky, that
were so sharp, and so funny, he said, right, Paul, had no balls, and I was like, who is this guy? And the thing is, Mitch McConnell, who may or may not be alive, has resuscitated Andy Bashir. So you know, one small caveat to that, which is Andy has taken a lot of shots from people on the left, because he didn't just unilaterally preempt everything and pick a successor
“or call a special election, and Bashir responded to that, I think, appropriately, which is,”
maybe he's combatose Mitch McConnell, maybe he's dead, I don't know what the reality
of it is, but the fact is, as long as he's there in limbo, that is one fewer Republican vote in the Senate, and it's not a bad thing to have that go on for at least a little bit of time, but I think the next, I think in general, you're right, he's stepping up to the plate now, what I would do if I were Andy Bashir, is I would come to Washington, I would go to the hospital, I would demand being able to see and speak with Mitch McConnell
and find out his intentions when he intends to come back, because he has not said a public word, all we've had are speaking of lexbittles, Scott Jennings, saying on air on CNN,
“I had a 20 minute great conversation with him, and we've seen a couple of these photographs,”
that we have had not one word, even over a telephone to reporters or a message to Kentuckians that follows on what his staff have said, look, I've had some issues, I'm still in the hospital, I'm getting better, that is, that smells to high heaven, so let Bashir do that, and if he's not led in to see and talk to McConnell, to get directly from him, the word about his standing and when he intends to come back, then you either point a replacement
or call a special election, which is fundamentally what the law allows, although it's not clear that it allows it after August 3rd or 4th, but which is why this game is being played. Yeah, I would take this to the next level if I were Andy Bashir, which would be a good
thing for him, and, you know, the reality is that the failure of other Democrats to show
some spunk and some backbone and some spying is what's created a lot of the problems in Democratic primaries, and I would say just to segue a bit to another topic that we might explore, the primaries that have chosen Democratic socialist candidates have not been because all these voters look at positions that the National Democratic Socialists of America have taken, like, you know, that are in some instances very extreme, abolish prisons, they're doing
it because they see fighters against wimps, and until we see more fighters out there, we're going to see additional headaches for so-called establishment Democrats, not because of their views, because of their actions.
“Well, you know, but look, I think it's a good thing to come to, I did want to say I'd like”
our producer Joe Vitality to go and get us a life-sized cut-up cut-up of Mitch McConnell, so we could have with us in studio next week, and then we could do an interview as a cardboard cut-out of Mitch McConnell, I think it'd be pretty entertaining. But as far as this goes, you know, we are recording this strangely and a Monday normally, we do it on a Thursday.
So this kind of last week's show will do two this week, but because tomorrow Tuesday, August 4th, and some of you may listen after that, but Tuesday, August 4th, there is a primary in Michigan, in which it looks right now, like a Michigan State Public Health official, Dr. Abdul Elsaid, is going to defeat the establishment Democratic candidate, Haley Stevens,
My quite a substantial amount, and he has had the support of progressives, Be...
and AOC, and he's had the support of some people, to our Democratic Socialist, so he is
“not a Democratic Socialist, and there has been an effort by many who oppose his views on”
things like Israel, or, you know, are simply do not want to progress a candidate to paint him as a crazed extremist, which is not, you know, his crazy extreme idea is that everybody should have health care, like in every other developed country in the world. Communists, yeah, it's crazy communism, crazy communism, you know, or the government should take care, you know, making people's lives better, and his views on Israel, which are
we shouldn't be giving away money to Israel, which is a rich country, which is not acting
in U.S. interests, are actually views that are shared by 70% of the American people. So this is not like he's a crazy loom, they're trying to portray him as a crazy loom. For whatever their reasons are, APEC is trying to portray him as a crazy loom establishment Democrats who see this ground swell around people who, as you say, will take action, stand up and fight that frightens them because they don't like doing that.
And Republicans like Mike Rogers, the guy he's running against, are saying, you know, he's a communist, and Mike Rogers actually weirdly ran a ad over the weekend in which he put in some AI version of El Said inside the Trojan horse, going into Michigan saying they're infiltrating Michigan, totally missing the point that the people inside the Trojan horse were actually some good guys, but, you know, let's theoretically, let's leave that aside.
But they're all freaking out because it serves them not because of the views are radical. And the people of Michigan have common sense, and I see something, and I wrote a sub-stack on this, if people want to go to might need to know sub-stactic and read it, I see something actually in some bigger story here, and that is APAC and related groups
put $60 million behind Haley Stevens. Other groups, tech groups, and crypto groups, and others,
put millions and millions behind her because they see her as a more malleable traditional corporate candidate. And right now, it looks like the people of Michigan are saying, "You can take your citizens united and you can stuff it." You know, you can spend as much as you want, but we don't have to listen. And to me, this is like jury nullification. This is Supreme Court nullification. We don't have to vote for the candidates who have the biggest bank rules, and we've seen that
we saw in our Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Last year, we've seen it. We saw it in New York City when Billionaires lined up to try to block Mundani. We're seeing it elsewhere in the country, and I think this is a super encouraging trend. The Democrats said, "Before we get to the campaign finance reform, we need to have." We can do it with our actions. We can do grass roots, campaign finance reform, and simply not be swayed by the people who are spending tens of millions
“of dollars. So I don't know how you feel about that, but that's how I feel about it.”
I wanted to reflect a little bit more broadly on APEC and on Netanyahu. There was a time going back three decades. When APEC was an extraordinarily effective organization, and it wasn't just because they were able to get most Jews firmly, squarely, behind Israel. It was because there was a much broader consensus, but we had complete bipartisan support for the existence of Israel. APEC made a conscious decision to tilt towards Republicans and to rely on evangelical Christians
and a part of that was believing that, "Hey, Democrats aren't going to abandon Israel. We can abuse them as much as we want. We can move away from them. We can become a partisan organization, and it has backfired dramatically on them. But not only has Israel become much
“more of a partisan issue. It's not that it's all Democrats against all Republicans. The fact is”
there is a strong anti-Israel faction on the right, which is fundamentally an anti-Semitic faction. It's the Nick Fuentes faction on the right, and there's still lots of Democrats like Haley Stevens,
Who are strong supporters of Israel.
Netanyahu government, which is a disgrace to humanity, and which continues to create a situation
“where, as you say, the vast majority of Americans more generally. Those who used to support Israel”
partly because there was this sense that they were people like us, and it was a democracy, and a sea of horrible governments. That's no longer there, and we're now in a situation where the majority of Americans, and probably the vast majority of Americans, do not like Israel, and they're not often making the distinction. Kind of distinction we've talked about this before. It's tough for those who, I was born in 1948. I grew up with the sort of magic and promise
of this new country. It's tough for us as Americans to separate out our love for America from the despicable actions of the monstrous people led by Donald Trump, who have corrupted and destroyed almost every norm of governance. And it's also a challenge to be able to support the existence of the state while also separating out from the monstrous, uh, inhuman behavior of the people who are now running that government to realize that just like Donald Trump, maybe Netanyahu
will do anything to avoid going to jail or to stay in power. And what's happened is the combination of APAC and Netanyahu have created a completely different dynamic. And I'm not sure even if BB
loses in this next election, whether he'll go first of all, but whether it's going to get any better
in the foreseeable future, and it is a shame. It is a shame, but you know, I also think the media plays a role because they describe people who oppose APAC as opposing the pro-Israel lobby.
“Well, if you're truly pro-Israel, and I have lots of Israeli friends, you should be anti-Netanyahu,”
you should be anti-genocide and gossip, you should be anti-the annexation of the West Bank, you should be anti-the limitation of the democratic rights of Palestinians living within Israel. You should be against all those things because those are not Israel's interests. So if you are with the majority of Americans who don't think that Israel should get a blank check anymore, who don't think that APAC should dictate what our policy is, who don't think we should support
a government in the midst of crimes as Biden did and as Trump has done with the Netanyahu government, you're acting in a pro-Israel way and to suggest that it's anti-Semitic. It's absolutely ludicrous. You know, I would only point out from a purely foreign policy perspective. Do we have lots and lots of countries who are among our closest allies, whether it's the
UK or France or Canada or whomever that we don't give money to, we've given 30 to 40 billion dollars
to rich Israel over the course of the past decade? Not necessary. We shouldn't be providing weapons to countries in violation of U.S. law. And when weapons are being used to commit war crimes or a country is denying humanitarian aid to people who need it, that's a violation of U.S. law. The things that people like Al-Sayed are recommending are completely consistent with U.S. national interests with our treatment of our friends, with what we should be doing.
“It's nothing, again, radical about it at all. And that's why 70% or 80% of American”
support it. And it's also why. And this is, you know, we're Jewish guys, right? 70% of American Jewish? I don't know. Who would have guessed who would hold a bullet, but that's why 70% of American Jews feel this way? You know, so it's not anti-Semitic. And it's not anti-Israel. People asking what is the national interests of the United States? What is the law of the United States? And how do we serve those interests? And so I,
it's going to get spun tomorrow in the wake of this election. And APEC is going to be out there spinning at that way. And by the way, they represent themselves as sort of the mainstream
Voice of American Jews.
which much more accurately reflect the views of the majority of American Jews than APEC,
“which is an organization that through and with the Republican heart, right, evangelicals,”
Netanyahu, and extremists in Israel, like Ben Gavir and Smotrich, long time ago, and thus disqualified themselves from being treated with any kind of special respect here in the US. Anyway, sorry. Yeah. No, I just, I want to take it to another related level. BB Netanyahu has been overtly partisan when it comes to the United States.
Through an Islam with Republicans, tried to interfere in our elections to elect Trump
more than once. And believed that Donald Trump would do everything that he wanted. Now that Trump partly at BB's instigation has gotten us into this unending debacle with Iran.
“He is now desperately trying to get out of it in ways that are screwing over Netanyahu,”
creating enormous problems for BB, and which is delicious in some respects to watch the two of them linked together and sinking down. But what's also true is that because of this debacle, we may well find that the alliances we built with other countries in the Persian Gulf were already seen this with the Saudis who know that if Trump does what BB wants him to do, what he is trying to do to try and get out of this mess, which is to escalate and take it to another level of
taking out Iranian infrastructure and doing direct war crimes. The Iranians have made clear that they're going to do the same thing to the Saudis, the Emirates, the Omanis, and the others in the
“region. And it is going to cause immense harm and havoc across the border. And the Saudis now”
are starting to recognize that Trump for his own interests could screw them the same way he screwed Janine Pirot and all kinds of others in his orbit, not none of them recognizing that, well, they think they're manipulating him and that he is in their camp. Have forgotten a fundamental lesson, which is the lesson about Donald Trump. Donald Trump is for Donald Trump. He will abandon anybody, including his own family. If it means either saving his own skin
or avoiding some kind of problem or catastrophe. And so this goes beyond what we've been talking about just with Israel, it is to the reality that Donald Trump could blow up the Middle East and every alliance that's been there and every bit of stability that had been there before he
encouraged by BB, egg done by BB and by the Vial Pete Higgsith got us into this never-ending
catastrophe. No question about it. We've got two minutes left, but you mentioned Janine Pirot and I want you to have an opportunity to talk about the fact that of course Trump's lies about vandalism and the reflecting pool turned out to be lies. And that therefore the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Janine Pirot had to drop the case that they had manufactured against a former Olympian who did nothing at all wrong. And then Trump minutes later, and again,
today, just minutes ago, as we're recording this attacking Janine Pirot and there's now rumors out of the White House, maybe he's going to fire her for respecting the law. It goes back to Todd Blanch thing. And frankly, you know, couldn't happen to a nicer person than Janine Pirot who doesn't deserve to have that job. Anyway, but I just thought maybe you want to end with some commentary on this. And that of course is to offer another candidate, a very good one for
lickspittle of the week. And that's Doug Burgham, the disgracedful disgusting secretary of the interior who has gone on the attack against Pirot and continues to claim to suck up to Trump that this was all about vandalism. So Pirot, we know now, lied to the grand jury, distorted things,
Got these indictments, not just against this terrific guy, this Olympian, but...
all to curry favor with Donald Trump. And when she realized that the defense was going to be
“able to get access to the grand jury transcript that the judge was going to have access to the grand”
jury transcript, that they were going to see and with photographic evidence that this was a complete destruction of every ethical norm in the law that she was going to be sanctioned and disbarred. And she still should be sanctioned and disbarred. And in a reasonable world, Pirot, what a been fired from bringing these charges. Instead, she's going to be fired as you said, because she stepped back from them, but she didn't step back from them because, oh my God,
I suddenly realized I'd been lied to by the Department of the Interior, which is her defense. She stepped back from them because maybe she had gone off her boxes of wine for a little bit of time to realize that this was the end of her career if she continued to push these prostitutions.
“And the only thing that is satisfying about this other than charges dropped against people who”
never should have been charged in the first place, but causing them of course immense trauma
over a long period of time is to watch three foul people, three disgraceful disgusting people, Janine Pirot, Doug Burgham, and Donald Trump, pissed all over each other. That sounds like something that Bernie Moreno might have tried to buy online, but it's another. No, I don't mean that. Those are only allegations Senator Moreno. I'm sure you had no illicit, well, you know, whatever. Anyway, Norm, it's good to see you. I'm glad you're recovering
from your surgery, from your nose job. We know it was a nose job, Norm. Basically, it was a nose job.
“We all know that you wanted to poke nose your whole life, and it's going to look beautiful”
and hurt like Mary Tyler Moore or somebody else from Minnesota. In any, well, she wasn't actually
from Minnesota, why she was. Let's, but we've adopted her. Yeah, we've adopted her. We minisoke. Yeah. Well, in anyway, in any event, it is good to see you. I have a good week. I will see you later this week. And yeah, are you going to join us on Friday at noon? Friday at noon? Yeah, I was trying to sort of encourage you to shift the Thursday to Friday at noon. Oh, and the reason was that we've started to do the Friday at noon show a lot. And I thought that if you joined, you know, last week
we had a couple hundred people joined in and they were asking questions. And everybody loves you. And so if you joined Friday at noon, and we would just do a little rundown of the week we could do something live. We could do it. Yeah. I may, I'll have to see whether that works this week, but if not, we will start doing it the following. Okay. That would be great. Have it really good. And I know everybody would love to. And, you know, last week when we were doing this, there were people in like Australia
in Bulgaria and everybody were like signing in and offering their ideas. And I like the idea of more of our podcasting being more interactive. And, you know, for two guys like you and me, I'm very quick on her feet. You know, we're really good with that kind of thing. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. You looked a little bit. You reminded me a little bit of the late, great, big pussy bump in sorrow. I have to say a great actor. And I actually thought his finest moment
was when they were about to throw him off the boat. And he showed such dignity, understanding that he had violated the fundamental precept of the mob. And was ready to accept his fate. But he was a terrific and then Vincent Pestor. And yet, he was his just 80 years old. And of course, my wife and on my wife is in insane soprano's attic. And so she said, "Oh, we have to watch that episode." And so we watched that episode on the day that he died over the weekend.
And in that moment where he realizes there's no avoiding it. And he says to Tony, "Not in the face." You know, it's just so poignant. And there's that sort of the genius of that show is that it can be incredibly poignant. And at the same time, I have this sort of dark
Comic undertone.
one of a kind, Norm. Thank you very much. We'll see you soon. Bye bye, everybody.
