Sixth stage win for Belgium in the stood up.

Yosper Phillips and and third win for Belgium in a row. The lost stage is happened one by a Belgian rider. So we're pretty good. We're pretty we're pretty more

More riders than any other country in this race Everybody welcome back to the move plus I'm Spencer Martin. I'm here with Johan Berniel. We're breaking down stage 17 of the tour of France one by Jasper Phillips and over Maros Schmidt and Olaf Koy and an extremely reduced sprint at the end of an extremely hard day 175 kilometers of pretty much all-out racing 47 kilometers an hour. We're just really impressive win from Phillips. It did not think he had this range.

She really surprised us. We'll also preview stage 18. But Johan right up top what what was your takeaway from the stage? I assume you're impressed with your countrymen. Yeah, take away. I mean it was I mean the stage as a whole Spencer was was just super exciting. You know we I thought there was going to be a break away

in those first 50k little breaks went and came back and you know we really didn't know what was going

to happen until the very end whether break away was going to stay away you know people came back from it was it was super super chaotic and you know the fact that after such a hard stage Phillips and could win this stage being a sprinter a pure sprinter actually being in those moves having to bridge up at some point also I'm going to say Jasper Phillips and hats off to him especially for hanging in there you know after having a difficult start of the tour de France

super frustrated and well I guess it's the first time he has to wait for such a long time you know stage 17 to win a stage but but man he he stayed in there kept fighting and is now also back in real contention for the green jersey we're going to talk about that in a little bit

β€œI think shout out and to and to all I would say in total to Alps in Alps in the killing for”

first of all for keeping believing in Phillips and and keeping supporting him when he has disappointed in the first few stages and then especially big shout out to Mathew on the pool for keep standing next to his friend there really good friends I think it was really nice to see and telling how happy Mathew was for Jasper after this stage when we're cause today let's face it Mathew on the pool could have won this stage if he races for himself and yeah oh yeah so

so I think that's actually you know great great tribute for to the team the way this team works you know they must have been really disappointed at the beginning when the sprint the bunch brings them work out but Phillips and shows what kind of big engine he is what kind of high pedigree rider he is you know he's he's the typical to the front sprinter and although it didn't work out for him in the first part of the tour today with a great lead out from Mathew but

the other sprinters were nowhere all of core was in an ideal position and he did not even complose to winning so great great victory for Phillips and and for Alps in yeah I mean it's he can't say enough nice things about it it was so impressive from a team

β€œtell me if I'm wrong here so I think the strategy was Vanderpool from the breakaway the race starts”

incredibly hard but we're seeing the races start so hard that you know they're so strong out

that the breakway never really forms Vanderpool was up there pushing like I was surprised actually

how much he was giving to forces breakaway away it doesn't get away and then they audible at some point to for like okay we're all in for Vanderpool and then they switch somewhere along the way to then be backing Phillips in and everything just kind of fell into place for them and obviously they were tired like they put riders up in the move they had people with pedicin but you know and even they they seed the intermediate sprint but Phillips and does a really good job of

of salvaging that he finishes six or was he was fifths on the intermediate sprint of fifths okay because there was there was four riders up there with pedicin that worked out perfectly and then he has this pellet on this little mini little pellet on to reel the breakaway in and then he wins the sprint and pedicin gets eight on the day which is a bit of a disaster

β€œyeah I mean I think I think that you know the anti climax for a little track and for”

Mark Spederson is that pedicin did a hell of a race he was so strong you know when they break away in the beginning then you know finally there was a move going with Vanderpool another guy and he was not in there he bridges up by himself and then afterwards this but you know he

Then he gets away with six riders get that intermediate sprint everything loo...

and finally I think the racer in which he was the stage in which he was probably one of the

strongest of the of the day and maybe his strongest performance of of this of this tour is actually stage where he loses me it doesn't lose but you know his green jersey gets in danger because Philips and you know was was did a great great stage but you know he calculated everything perfectly and it worked out fine for him right yeah so so yeah it's a bit of a double a double

β€œsort I think pedicin did an amazing race today he's so strong”

but yeah unfortunately you know he had nothing left in the final and then so you know if normally and on a stage like today after such a hard race even if there would be sprinters up there

I think pedicin could have been third or fourth he could have been third today normally

in such a difficult hard race but he spent a lot man he spent a lot today should he have raised more conservatively like did he even need to bridge the break away should he just stayed with Philips and I think he saw an opportunity I mean obviously he went on a moment that everybody was cooked I mean these guys feel there okay everybody's done I'm I'm I'm suffering but I'm gonna give it one more try I think he saw an opportunity there to

to get in there and in that break and get him I was already behind and Philips and looked like he was suffering so I don't think he counted with the fact that Philips and would get in a little group and actually make it back before the sprint and had the opportunity to

β€œdo the intermediate sprint and the final sprint so I think you know what he did was I mean”

he did what he had to do he tried you know but today he came he came with yeah first of all I was sitting at four riders and there also which was which was impressive little crack where they have three you know have three guys I think yeah I think yeah three guys I think he has quick win Simmons betterson and then that G I was it's going to hold us hold on a second there G maybe maybe I missed there G being in there no you're right it was there G yeah yeah yeah yeah

and huge for team GC right yeah I mean one yeah that look like we care about them right yesterday you know there you see Spencer you know if we're talking about team GC automatically I think we have to talk about UAE and and well first of all little track they had three riders in the break and UAE had one rider in the break or normally they would have nobody right so it shows that they had made it an objective but stuff like that can backfire man you know it seems already you know we

in week one you know we saw them race and keeping the break close and and then we saw these

β€œinterviews of Tim Wellenz and Florian Vermeers that they would like to be that team GC I think they”

cannot make that an objective you know a team GC especially if you dare to win the win the two the friends it needs to be something that comes to you it doesn't need to be a priority and so today we saw team UAE which to me looked actually quite fragile you know they have Adam Yates who apparently yesterday got sick they already knew this morning that he would suffer he looked really bad today finished the stage but they also at the beginning of the stage

when there was a lot of splits they did have Florian Vermeers and Tim Wellenz in the third or the

fourth group that should normally never happen you know these are two really strong riders they

should be in group two or three you know and then when else to me it comes back well they they're there and they were there but it saw it to me UAE today I felt a little bit fragile which you know I don't know if it's gonna have an impact but they have to let go of team GC I mean it makes no sense and then anyway after today I think little track is again 18 minutes up so you know normally that should be okay for little track in with they have you know they have

two good two climbers that will be there and then the third guy I mean they all they have quincements who basically can do everything so I mean I don't think they're gonna lose 18 minutes in these three stages in team GC towards UAE and UAE may actually have to say you know what we don't we don't we don't we yesterday no or or or the stage at Ramco won a plateau to Salason had their third guy was Adam Yates for team GC today so I doubt that Adam Yates is gonna recover

I would not be surprised if tomorrow it's in abandon or even at the NS I don'...

did not start and I thought I've looked pretty rag at back on stage 15 I mean Tim Wellons was at the back at the start of the race they had fewer riders and basement at a certain point yeah yeah I don't know why they didn't see that which is in team GC right now it doesn't really

mean to control the race it doesn't really matter that much anymore because you know first of all

yesterday we said that they could probably win this on his own okay that's still to be seen but still there's a lot of other interests going on so you can use those to your advantage but yeah you know the tourist three weeks long my lot of stuff can happen you know like

β€œand in week one everybody feels great and I still remember that quote from Tim Wellons when you”

know he kept that break away close and then finally they let it go but you know he said you know I'm just gonna ride my I have great legs I'm just gonna ride my own pace and he kept the break I like a minute two minutes and that's not necessary you know even if you have great legs

save them for when you need them you know yes in this route it's like dividing a number by zero

sorry by two and hoping to get to zero so I go okay we're going into stage 18 but we have a long way to go like these stages are so hard yeah to get to Paris you know like man to have your team fall apart now is not great I started the the Wiggins boys this morning kind of an interesting you know because Bradley's not so he's like well four and a minute lead over RIMCO it sounds like a lot but he could have been more it's you do wonder if they've

just been too cute with this whole thing like you know oh not dropping del Toro like like well okay what exactly is the end game here like do you want to have a safe buffer like what if Buggature has an issue and he loses five minutes and you're like well we could have five and a half or six minutes on RIMCO but we had four and a half because we got cute obviously it will probably be fine but it doesn't make you wonder a little bit if they if they should just focus on winning

the tour and get through the tour as easy as possible I think I think that should always be

the main priority if you're there with a leader you are there to win the tour and nothing else matters

β€œand whatever you can take time without spending too much you have to do it you know like”

Buggature he was twice in a situation where he could have another minute on on both of those stages without too much of an effort yes but anyways it's I don't think it's gonna matter at the end and let's hope that nothing happens to him right let's hope that nothing unfortunately it happens to him but yeah I can understand that you know they they want to try their Toro to have him on the podium it's after today I'm okay I don't I don't exactly know what happened but

let's find a little bit you know worried about UAE although you know everything in you know be so different than one day like yesterday they'll totally the great time trial so we would assume that his condition is still very good and that he is not sick but today there was a moment where it was split and there was a big group and the Toro was not there and at some point he was 42nd behind now at this point in the race in the state in the Tour de France

somebody who has the condition of the podium no matter what happens Spencer no matter what happens if you if you are caught out and you don't pay attention in the last week these guys do have the legs to look it's okay I'm going and you you go and you catch that group while it's breaking up what we saw Pagatria do that exact thing you're talking about a couple days ago yeah so you missed a split and it just closed it so the Toro today I don't know exactly what you know

that I've seen some you know hypothesis right we don't know you know is there some elements in the team could be you know I mean then you would have wanted to take the biggest lead you possibly could have by stage. Yeah I don't think I don't think that's the case I saw Pagatria after the stage is in Toro you know it's very good yeah I don't know I don't know but I I'm not a fan of you know

not going when when when you really can take advantage because it's a mathematical exercise you

β€œneed to have an advantage for whatever something happens and I mean I think normally you know”

if things go to plan to more or maybe not but stage 19 is the obvious the typical I think Pagatria will want to win this you know I think he will want to win on that on that climb I've heard also some I mean it's it's not not confirmed but that he actually would like to have

Beat the record of Pantani which is considered you know like untouchable almo...

I think he can I think he can break it I think he can break it well okay I agree I think I can break it it'd be nice to have a team to lead you out and then you start and I love musical Toro this is not a criticism of him I think he's a great writer I he's one of my favorites but what is the function of so he's in third he's not going to pull probably because he doesn't want to get he doesn't want to get in the way of his own third place you just start to wonder like what exactly has he

done to earn these stage win gifts and Pagatria pulling for him you know he's he's definitely huge talent he has won already some nice races you know he came to the tour as you know the second card to play and obviously they want to keep him happy Spencer that's that's something that

β€œyou need to you need to have in mind no matter what this contract is you know he's on the he is being”

chased by teams I can guarantee you that even if he has a contract he'll 2030 whatever he is being chased and with maybe they bent over backwards for a you so and at some point maybe just keep Tadip Pagatria happy he seems like he's pretty good right that's a guy I would want to keep

would you not yeah I just feel like they're always obsessed with the future on that team it's like

you know it's good future Tadip Pagatria just probably got a couple good years left yeah I don't know and you look at those I see there's you know there's a very good atmosphere there's a very good relationship between Pagatria and the Toro and you know we can we can give our opinion from the outside yeah you know what come on man you know just go full gas and don't look back and you know and but what do we know right I mean they get a long really well

I've heard I've heard or I've read from a comment from one of the teammates that actually if if if if Pagatria sees that the Toro is struggling that he's not going to go full gas

Yeah I mean that's so it's very sweet that's so sweet well you know I was always seen

break the record and out to us so it's very I mean think of me I don't think that really I don't think that really matters that much you mean if the Toro if the Toro wants to be on the podium he just has to follow Paul 6 us that's it I know I know that's where I don't understand you know Yes and and I don't whenever Pagatria goes Rampco won't follow 6 us won't follow and nobody can follow so

β€œjust stay with the second and the fourth guy you know and you have to have the legs because if”

if I think this could backfire actually if these guys see that Pagatria starts to do again what he did on Pagatria's Solizon to start attacking exactly you know because Rampco Rampco already knew with 3k a free 4k to go that the Toro was having trouble and he possibly didn't have the confidence to attack let me guess let me tell you if Rampco has the same legs and he keeps being the way feeling the way he feels and he sees that the Toro that Pagatria

doesn't go full because he's trying to preserve the Toro he's going to go you know he's going to he's going to I mean not attack with he's going to try to go faster and drop the Toro yes so Pagatria

has inadvertently turned into situation where everyone's so terrified of them they would never

dare attack which helps the Toro and he's flipped it so now they think he won't attack so they may attack which hurts the Toro it's a pretty interesting to think about that actually but you're maybe that's us talking theory here Spencer at the end you know in the last five days of the tour it's the legs to do the talking it's whatever you have left you know we it's we're going to see all maybe we're about to as and wins right I could just I mean and then you know

β€œI think and the lead out is going to be done by by Red Bull and they got them they're going to”

do oh yeah they're going to be the beautiful red Bull that is a very good point that even with this sickness to Adam yet I think he probably does not finish tomorrow's stage that it is a matter because Red Bull and the Catholic are going to be doing amazing work for today in the third week yeah yeah well yeah let's see what happens it's just in it I don't know why I just had to be in my bonnet this morning about it like why are we bending over backwards for like at this point he's you

know he's attempted to give to him two stages like that's a lot you know on have you ever known a leader to do that to so one on the team one stage once one stage I can understand do it's already two is a lot yeah and a podium yeah well I mean you know I mean the if you look I mean it's not the same situation but a multi-funded pool has tried to to give four stages to

The hospitals true true how many of this could be three leads out and I mean ...

have one yeah yeah so this was the only one that you could have won yeah the one I start to wonder about and what we should talk about before we got a break is Paris because now Phillipson's seven

β€œpoints back on Patterson this is serious like we are now in serious territory and then I think in Paris”

like I'm sure Vanderpool once the target that stage but are they going to have to go for Phillips and a Paris now I don't know it depends you know it's going to depend on the hospital also you know what you can do but then you mean for the intermediate sprint or even for the final sprint like the final sprint I have to not attack a lot a lot is going to a lot is going to depend there what the GC riders will do because if you look transfer the four guys today Ramco del Toro and

sex as they can actually all do a lot of damage on this course yeah explosive and so I personally think that the sprinters will have a hard time to you know contest this that the victory and but not that we need to talk we need to talk about y'all's profilipsen and you know his his 11th 11th stage when in the tour de France 11th stage when also fifth tour de France in a row that he wins at least one stage there's not many riders who could say that

it'd be tada is the only other rider right i don't really yeah i mean god i can't know in lands yeah not not for him i mean it's not your right is not many riders that have

ever done that the joys second amongst current riders of tour wins to which stage wins only

only boochar has more wins though yeah then vinar does 10 so right behind them okay and vinar more than you think actually because then there's no one even really close to those guys vinar 21 days later isn't the tour already yeah pretty good rider yeah you forget yeah also primus roguer 15 waltz stage wins holy smokes same sum for the rest of us yeah yeah i also also uh Spencer 6th stage win for Belgium in this tour of France

three four merlier do for ramco now one four y'all's profilipsen and third win for Belgium in a row the last few stages happened one by a Belgian rider so we're pretty good we're pretty more more riders than any other country in this race yeah only just above France but here's the difference Belgium six wins this tour zero France zero yeah yeah and then the numbers

β€œif you're wondering i think it's very likely that's France is not gonna win a stage in just”

sort of France let's let's let's look at their later in the show it's stage a team preview but so Belgium has six wins Slovenia four but got your could surpass Belgium by himself if he

really wants to the Netherlands is too Denmark is too if you count jones is first day when

Mexico wants Switzerland one Norway one so that's pretty impressive by Belgium a lot of good cyclists coming out of Belgium keep an eye on that country that's that's just i guess it's all culture right y'all huh like there's like there's nothing else that really explains that i mean cycling is so popular there's so many races compared to any other country and then also you know it's a small country so you know whenever you want to go to a race

you don't have to travel far and i remember like i have a son who races right so he's now first year junior he just turns 17 and he's racing in Spain and you know we have to go like for for example he's racing right now he's racing in the bus country a four-year stage so it's you know three four five hundred kilometer travel and last year we went to we went to Belgium for the whole month of August and we could do i think he did six races in 12 days or something

and it was never further away than 50 kilometers you know and you can you can like in the summer

you can basically race every every day if you want as a young rider so i think that's obviously

β€œi mean if you want the young riders the young athletes to you know compete you have to have competition”

you have to have races right yes so but anyway it's in the culture it's you know cycling is like a religion in Belgium you know like if you see the amount of coverage the races get in the new spapers on tv i think i mean it's been i mean but i think a few years ago i saw it's that somewhere

On national tv like on Belgians free national tv there was 250 days of cycling

on on on drop in broadcast 250 days in one year jeez yeah heaven yeah i gotta get that is a very good point i do think just child development of sports that what really underrated thing is what you're saying it's proximity to where you lit like how much experience can you get without traveling a long way yeah it's like the number one thing yeah that's a very good point um should we take a quick break and then yeah i have a couple questions for you okay anything else on this stage

it was hard it was exciting off to the break i have one more okay yeah okay we'll be right back everybody this episode is brought to you by lagoon sleep everyone going into the third week the two of friends is obsessed with speed particularly buying it with this time trial today do you know how much money they've spent on their wheelsets ultra arrow frames and the wind tunnel

β€œtesting a lot six figures but here's the thing no one's asking them what are you sleeping on what”

what's not what's your head on eight or more hours a night i bet it's not the best pillow

and here's the thing about endurance athletes they understand compounding better than anyone

that you don't get fitter from one ride you get fitter from consistent training over time in sleep works exactly the same way one bad night is not the problem but a training block or race where you're chronically under recovery and is especially if you're getting welcome up at two am for testing you're going to want to you're going to want a comfy pillow to put you back to sleep and that's where lagoon comes in lagoon is a small company built by athletes for athletes

a former Olympic trial swimmer who tested over sixty pillows and couldn't find one built with recovery in mind so he built it himself you just started with a two minute quiz that matches you to the right pillow for your sleep position and body type fully adjustable fill so you can dial in the exact height and support you need the result you fall asleep faster stay asleep longer and start training days feeling better and the data on this is real athlete sleeping under

seven hours and night are fifty percent more likely to get injured mid-block that's not an insignificant number and i'm up here in aspect in it's hot this year and there's no AC up here but guess what lagoon matched me with the otter and is a hot sleeper i love its temperature regulating gel memory foam since switching i've noticed i'm popping out of bed at 4 30 a.m. to get started these stages and so if you want this you can have this technology right now you just go to lagoon sleep

dot com slash the move and take the two minute quiz use code move m o v e for 15% off lagoon the marginal gain you've been sleeping on okay you'll hunt at we're back what is your last observation

β€œyeah i think you know we talk about how to stay developed how you know how to fill up some one”

but i want to touch on the performance of the hospital for lips in today other Belgian rider but he did an amazing ride was he was yes for stovon yes for stovon so you asked for stovon yeah sorry so i was like man the show was tough was like there's a lot of yes for stovon good yes for stovon i think you know great transfer from stovon quick step and also great decision from him to change themes you

know uh he was he was on on little track and track like forever i think he's been always on this

team no yeah i think so yeah i don't think he was on lot to ever i mean he never i don't know yeah because he went pro track factory racing okay track sake of freedom little track why he was on he was on track lift drum actually as a yes as a development rider was world champion junior spiderman and you know he's a veteran rider now he's in his 30s we saw how good he was in the classics it was third of part of it by the way up there in flanders did a great classic season then

he was amazing in the giro uh great assistance for polmanier who won three stages then went for it a couple of times himself and then in in this two of rounds he was crucial for timmer lear for the in those three stage wins and then today he was in the breakaway there's there's a fly here that's bothering me the whole show already no man got a fly and uh and today he and on such a hard stage where you would think you know what normally mean listen it would be most logical

the as per staving his cooked and empty and say okay you know what i contributed to the team success

i'm now just going to Paris but today he was in that breakaway uh first he was in the break

then he uh he was in a selection of the break and then he went you know by himself you know as we say you know or what chente Garcia his famous quote in the movie star documentary is the la fuga

β€œla fuga you have to la fuga as the breakaway you have to be in la fuga la fuga the breakaway from”

the breakaway and yas per staving was in la fuga la fuga la fuga so he because he went from the small

Group that went away from the breakaway and unfortunately for him these group...

if this is a traditional development of the breakaway that stays ahead and then he escaped from

β€œthe breakaway he wins the stage it was only because it regrouped and that because Alpacin had four”

riders and uh jaco had three riders and uh decatlomb was were riding for all of koi otherwise he would have won the stage and he would have really deserved this cancer because yas per staving

has never won a stage in the tour of France this is his tenth part in separation in the tour

he has finished twenty-eight times in the top ten in stages and never won a stage and it's a rider it's a it's a it's a really good rider but do you this is a question for you do you know when yas per staving's last victory was oh my lord that's a good question i'm not going to look it up but i'm going to guess it was we you know what i can't wasn't like oh is it pre-covid kid that be right it's melons and ramewood 2021

wow is that was his last win his last win as a professional rider whoa yeah uh which you know it's crazy uh that is crazy but but he's he was nine pro wins yeah it's a shocking yeah so he went after he almost won a stage once it's it's already a number of years ago uh also he got caught at the end it was the finish and mandat that's steep climb to the airport which you have

my co-man Matthews and he was caught in the last kilometer also there he's always i mean here's

so many times where he's so close to winning big races yeah he has to be the closest to winning without winning big races if there was anything for that like he won he won a man he won the last

β€œone ramewood like even this year he was third at Rubei like you don't remember that but he's”

always there it's always right there at these big races yeah I mean I remember when he went juniors that that was a long time ago he doesn't know wow dang what happened what happened the iceberg geez that feels like it was yesterday holy smokes he and that's shock what's Spencer 2009 was yesterday we're not yesterday it was yesterday yeah I walked by a bike shop was to been late 2008 early 2009 and there was a sign that was like Lance's back on the bike

or you and then that's how I got my first bike oh wow that sign I was like oh I got to get a bike look at that awesome sign but that that is crazy 2001 but yeah you didn't know what he's a great rider he's got enough yeah he's one of my new meant he's one arm loop that's all he's got a great career and he know I'm pretty sure he has a great contract and you know he's I mean I'm going to guess he signed for at least two or three years with Sudal so you know he's done he's done well for

himself even without too many do many victories it's an amazing pick-up by then by the way because

β€œhe's been key to Timberler's stage wins as well at this race and it's crazy I mean I'm just”

checking it out I'm just confirming here you know because I heard it on TV today but I just was confirming he had 2021 Milan San Primo and the year before he won I'm a little bit new blood yep didn't that doesn't have many wins yeah and also in like Carlos's current I'm a really important piece of information Spencer you know when it's the proof that these guys are so strong and they keep insistent they keep insisting you know we're in this era of cycling where everything is there's

tiny guys they're super light you know y'all've been one meter 87 high 80 kilos yeah I mean yeah you can still be that you need a lot of power to be able in the front with with that kind of weight yes you know there's two sides the equation there's power and there's weight so if you're a lot of weight you got a lot of power yeah but sometimes some then we think of a sworn varnish called varnish gold my he must be putting out so much power yeah he was he was up there for a while no

I know I know mint it's incredible what he can do like this is not an easy stage yeah at all do not think that this was a flat stage because it was not um do you want to answer question yeah sure so this is from rich and this is a little we're gonna have to like stab around in the dark here for a second but this guy is saying with Jonas crashing out a top tour container crashing

Out has there ever been any tour difference where two or more of the top cont...

were unable to finish due to crash or sickness yes I'm which winner by co-incidence I just

I just heard this today on TV it was I don't remember the year but the second and the third

rider of the year before uh had to abandon for some reason and it was Bernard Tavenet and Hennie

β€œClip and I think it was one of the Bernard Hennel tour so it must have been uh early eighties I think”

late seventies early eighties yeah the one I this is a kind of cheating but 2006 would be they didn't drop out they just didn't start so yeah I mean close you know like yeah yeah that was different a little different but it was very deflating because it's so excited for that tour then it's like wait what y'all are ricks not racing what is happening right now but you know you just get weird stuff like when when you have spots like at the top open

like that you get really weird tours sometimes like imagine if imagine if begotchard room co crash out of this race it would be a wild last few days yeah it would just be like

β€œopen bar for for a podium that you're probably never going to get again but stage eight team”

tomorrow's stage we're getting it's getting serious yohan it's getting really serious because 185 kilometers how many meters of climbing for that over four four thousand yeah four thousand meters like a like a kind of a mountain stage like a medium mountain this is a real mountain stage man In the finish is 7K at 7% yeah with 4,000 meters of climbing like yeah it's kind of a sprint stage, you'll see what happens. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

I typed on this stage until the second rest day, I looked ahead to the stages, I was like, wow,

this is way harder than I thought it was, but we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 classified climbs and a sprint point later in the stage, which means you're going to be big time breakaways for the K1 points, starts on a cat one that's a lot of points, then there's a cat two that's also a lot of points, finishes on a cat one, so you're going to have caripass, you're going to have parry ponder up there, you're going to have petterson trying to get up there to get the sprint points. It's going to be total chaos,

and if you want a bet on it, go to nxtbets.com/betoutcomes, and we'll show you where to bet, how to bet, kind of an interesting thing here, Johan, you can check the best odds wherever they are posted. So right now we can see on draft games, Mads Petterson still minus 250 to win green. Yes, for Philips, and plus 200, so that would tell us that probably the smart money is on Petterson to win, even though it feels like he lost it today, that he still has a big advantage probably

β€œbecause of days like tomorrow. How do you think this is going to play out? Is this breakaway?”

I think breakaway, I think breakaway, as you said, ponder ponder has to be in the break for the KOM. Yeah, I think breakaway, and anyways, before I give my take on who I think will win, or Sierra Merlet is a name that rings to me since my childhood Spencer, because it's famous stage in cycling history, in 1971, which was when Eddie Merck was dominating, the dominating

Eddie Merck's got defeated on our Sierra Merlet by Luis Ocania. Luis Ocania was the first guy

who could, you know, trend and hurt Eddie Merck's, and he won the stage with C8 minutes 42 on Eddie Merck's. Eddie Merck's was actually, in my opinion, going to lose that tour of France, and Ocania took the yellow jersey, so he had, right, a second, so took the yellow jersey and led Eddie Merck's by 9 minutes 46 seconds, so he had taken time already on Eddie Merck's, and then a few days later, while Ocania was in the yellow jersey, Eddie Merck's

attacked was really bad weather. He had attacked when away, and Ocania trying to follow him crashed in the downhill of Golden Monte in the Pyrenees, was getting up, and while he was getting up, there was another rider, Joaquim Agustino, very famous Portuguese rider, also crashed into Luis Ocania, and I think Luis Ocania broke some rips, and he had to abandon, whoa, yeah, whoa,

Yeah, but then I think, I think, two years later, he won the tour, Luis Ocania.

When Merck's got punched, right, was that the year? It could be, I don't remember that, but but yeah, and that's tomorrow's summit finish. There was also a summit finish, or Sierra Merck, yeah, lands in the previous, like that doesn't look that hard. I don't know, that kind of looks pretty hard, 7%, 7%, wow, I mean, especially after, you know, after, you know, in this, this

is going to have, I mean, it's the first stage of the next three mountain stages, but

this is a real mountain, it's not just like an easy and easy climb, and then you want me to say the odds before you give your pick. Yeah, go ahead. So, I've used next bets to go over to trafficings, because it told me the best price, Richard Caripass plus 350, Tadipagotra plus 450, that would seem hard to believe. EZICTLE Toro plus 1,000 Tobias Hollinio Hansen plus 1200, Queen Simmons plus 1200,

Valent and Perry Pontra plus 1400, time and arms have been plus 1400, Tom Pickock plus 1600, who's plus 1600, RIMCO have in a poll plus 2200, who do you think goes on and on? But who do you think's going to win you on? Before you said the odds, I already were down in, I think Richard Caripass is the favorite for me. I think he's been waiting for this, he's been quiet now for a few, a few days and tomorrow is going to be in the break,

and you know, Caripass is a racer man, he knows how to win. I think Caripass gets it tomorrow.

Could be Caripass, this is the classic, even 2024, you know, he kind of came alive in the third

week, he won a bit stage, very similar to this. I'm going to pick though, just based on the splits from the time trials, time and armsmen, I think he's flying right now plus 1400, one, two stages in the third week of last year's tour, Caripass is going to have a lot of eyes on them,

β€œthat's the only thing that gives at least everyone's going to be looking at Richard Caripass tomorrow.”

Yeah, out Perry Pantra, I did think about, but the more I think about it is, he's going to be going so hard for the sprints on the top of the climbs, it can often hurt your ability to win the stage, so I'm going with armsmen up plus 1400. Okay, yeah, he did a really good time trial yesterday, because I don't know if you saw, he actually missed his start. Yes, so he missed his start. I think he started like 20 seconds late, and he still came in,

like, doc placing at the moment he arrived, he was, I think he was second, second time. I think he

would have been top five on the day, he would have made a start. Also, if you know the fastest time, T2 to the finish yesterday, wait, it's on the top of my tongue. The young kid from Enels? Yeah, Josh Tireley. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pretty impressive, actually. Yeah,

β€œthen he was there in the finish again today. I mean, he's a good, good rider. I think he's 22 years old,”

but I think I care about his a very good pick here. I mean, you could easily just imagine this being a Caripass win, but I don't know, something tells me when there's that many eyes on you. Can you, can he just keep doing it? Maybe again, maybe that's not a problem. Like I'm looking at what was that stage 17 of 2024? Yeah, Richard Caripass, it's a very similar stage. You've got to have been healing in the break also, working for him. So I know that's such a big advantage, too,

that he has been healing just to go out and drive the bridge. He has come alive in this tour, and initially, until until a few days ago, I didn't, I didn't think he was going very good. He was struggling, but you know, he's, the last few days, he's, he's pretty good. Yeah, you kind of wonder, would he have come alive with that? Because it kind of gave him a purpose, even when he wasn't racing that well, having Caripass and driving the brakes, and it seems like

that's allowed him to come around. Yeah. And he does look a lot different. Should we do Ventum

β€œTrevia and then take off? Yeah. Okay. So Ventum, if you want to answer these questions, and you want”

to get credit for it, go to Ventumracin.com/themove and enter your answer. You can do a new one every day. Well, we'll draw a winner on July 26th, the final day of the tour on the show, on the move, and whoever wins gets $5,000 credit toward a Ventum bike of their choice. You can get the roadbite, the NS1, the gravel bike, the GS1. I would recommend both, they're both fantastic bikes, the GS1 very light, but can fit very wide tires. With, uh, if you're on maybe not great roads,

it's a great option. But yesterday's question was also, why are there? You can shop using code, the move 10 to get 10% off any bike that you want. Yesterday's question was Sir Bradley Wiggins when the 2012 Tour de France and then went on to win the Olympic gold in the time trial. Just days later, what made that feat unique? Do you know the answer, Johan? Was it that he was the first

Effort to the France winner to win Olympic gold straight after?

little bit unfair, because it only became possible in 1996. Yeah, but yeah, 96. Yeah,

β€œ96. I did the first, I did the Olympics in in Atlanta in 96, which was the first time”

it was open for professionals. And it was actually, Miguel in the Rhine, who won the time trial, but that's the year he had lost the tour. And he won the Olympic gold in the time trial.

Did he race the next year? Was that his last year? No, he retired. He tested just for when I was

yeah, see yeah. Yeah, he wow. So he did, he did the tour. Thank you finish seven. Then he went to Atlanta, one Olympic gold. And then they forced him to do the Vuelta. He but she didn't want to. Yeah. And he abandoned and said, okay, that's it. I'm stopping. I'm putting racing. That's pretty bad. That's the way to do it. But so the today's question is also pretty impressive. Wiggins was kind of back and away from home. Press of that was on the show,

but yeah, that's he he handled that. That was he won the tour. And then went straight to Olympics and won that time trial against the very strong Tony Martin. But today's question, young riders have been a force in this year's tour. And what year was the best young rider competition introduced into the race? Don't answer it. But we'll answer tomorrow's show. Competition or wide jersey? It says competition parenthesis, white jersey. Okay.

β€œYeah. So I think I thought I talked about 1996. No, 1969, sorry, 1969.”

When Eddie Merckz was one, did his first tour of France, won yellow, green,

pocket of teams and no white. Young rider classification, but there was no jersey. Okay. So let's white jersey. You know the answer to that. Yeah. Got eventemracien.com/themove and put transfer and don't email it to me because it will not count toward anything. I will just admire your answer and if that if you do that. But anything you

β€œalso go on before we take off. No, I think we've covered most of it's better. If not everything.”

All right. Well, we'll be back tomorrow and we're going to work it into the end game of this tour. It's kind of weird. It's freaky how fast this tour is going. But we have a lot left to do. You know, a stage 18. I think this is the, this is the beginning of the end and then stage 19. And then stage 20 is one of the harder stages I've seen in a long time with the two friends. Sure. Yeah. It's going to be exciting stuff. But we will talk tomorrow. Okay, stage. Thanks.

Okay. Bye.
