Salt and Light

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let's call the mind all those. We've promised to pray for.

“I believe in God the Father Almighty Creator of heaven and earth.”

I believe in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and he seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen. Our Father, who art and heaven, hollowed be your name. Thy kingdom come by, will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

“Give us a stay, our daily bread, and for you rest our trespasses.”

Our first mystery.

Immediately after the be attitudes, Jesus gives his disciples a mission.

Notice he does not say, try to become salt, try to be light, he says, you are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world. God did not place you in the world merely to make a living, raise a family, retire comfortably, as good as those things are. He placed you here to help him save souls. Christ to set you into your family, your workplace, your neighborhood, your school and every corner of society not to blend into the world, but to transform it. If salt loses its savor, it's good for nothing.

If light is hidden, darkness wins, the world does not need another comfortable Catholic. The world needs another saint, our Father who art in heaven, hollowed be your name, by kingdom come by will be down on earth as it is in heaven. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and earn now at the hour of our death amen. Something holiness is impossible. Many love things of this world more than Christ and others have filled every moment of their life with busyness, entertainment and distraction so they can no longer hear God.

Whatever the reason the tragedy is the same. God created us to be saints and we settle for being spectators.

Catherine of Sienna could not let us remain there. Writing to one of her spiritual sons she challenged him. Rise above childishness, rise yourself from your lukewarmness, enter the battlefield and do great works for Christ crucified, fighting manfully.

“That's not merely Catherine's challenge. That is Christ's call to every one of us.”

Our fifth mystery, don't waste your life. Christ put his life in you so that it might burn within you until the world is set ablaze.

The Dominican theologian certain launch wrote, "This perverse world loves at the bottom only saints, this cowardly world dreams of heroes. Your children don't need another consumer of Catholic content. Your friends don't need another spectator. The church doesn't need another passive receiver. The world needs saints. So here once more the words of Catholic Siener.

Rouse yourself from your lukewarmness, enter the battlefield and do great works for Christ crucified.

“Then ask yourself one question, will I merely admire the saints?”

Oh, my Jesus. Forgive us, our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to have an especially those most in need of thy mercy. Say, Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, the art protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou old prince of the heavenly host,

by the power of God cast into hell, Satan in all the evil spirits, proud throughout the world, seeking the root of souls. Give the name of the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“Well, what surprised you with this meditation, Teresa?”

It definitely surprised me because normally I don't take this call that seriously,

because I'm trying to be salt and to be light. I'm like, yeah, that's the kind of thing that you see on a sign in a kitchen or a living room that looks really cute and you buy it. Michael's are home goods, but it's not this cold action, but that's partially because I think I misunderstand what it means,

and I misunderstand the fact that we don't have that right now. I was thinking especially in the sense that when I look at our media, not media is in Instagram and YouTube, but like the books and the movies that are coming out right now, there's a sense I get that people see the world in kind of a sad, dry, sterile,

meaningless kind of way.

“There's a lot of movies that just feel like they don't have hope,”

they don't have meaning, and really the sense I get from it is that they don't have salt, and they don't have light. The creators behind it don't have that, that will to live that beauty of life, they have a flavorless life. Their world is dark, there's not light in it, there's not hope in it,

and it's what media is supposed to, like really good books, really good movies, should just have such an intensity, such a light, such a salt, such a flavor, such meaning that you realize that about your own life, and so I feel really moved by this meditation, not only to live a life where people just see those people,

they have a life full of life, actual life with, because we know what life is for,

“because we know that there is hope, because we know that God is living in us,”

and they should see that, and they should sense that, but also to create things that combat that kind of sterile, dryness I see in so many movies, TV shows, books right now. It's kind of the communist concrete block building of modern media. Nothing beautiful, nothing that inspires greatness.

Yeah. But we can't make the mistake of thinking that we become a saint by our effort. Yeah, if anything, if you just let God live in you, that's the flavor, that's the light, that's the thing that people resonate with, and it's why it's kind of intangible to describe in media or when you meet someone,

but you do get a different sense when it's not them, it's not that they're working really, really, really hard all the time to be the most optimistic, crazy, bright, brilliant person 24/7, but just the sense that God lives within them.

And the most powerful way to allow God to live through you

is to deepen your life of prayer. To go from vocal prayer, to meditation, to contemplation. And this is a real process that we can walk you through. But you've got to do the work of daily meditation and a resolution, which means think and do.

Yeah, I loved Catherine of Sienna's call to action. Get into the battle. She was on fire because of her depth of prayer.
