Episode 6, "Just a pleasant girl."

“It's been a few weeks since I told Arthur Knight that I no longer buy his story about being an innocent”

Irish man. I've decided I don't want to talk to him again. And I don't suppose he's too keen to talk to me, but I am really concerned about his wife Miranda. Though she denied it during the interview, I'm still worried she may have experienced at least some of the same things his ex-wife Catherine and Ohio told me about.

He would lock me in the upstairs bathroom. There's one time it's seemed like days on end, I didn't have my phone. All I had was the running water. I can't get her chilly accusations of abuse out of my head. And he yells, "You feel like your soul is being sucked out of you with how much passion

“he puts into his anger, marriage to him just that sucked the life out of me.”

I felt like I had no soul, I felt empty."

Whenever I have seen Miranda, Arthur has always been there too.

I'm desperate to talk to her alone, and then the perfect opportunity presents itself. The old and decorate wearing an oxygen mask, Arthur liked denied shouting, swearing and lunging and staff on a hospital ward. Arthur has been arrested for threatening behavior towards hospital staff. He is convicted, and his bail is revoked.

The sheriff told him it was a substantial risk he could have scond. Now he's back behind bars, and I'm hoping Miranda will feel free to tell me what's really been going on. I tried texting an emailing Miranda, but despite the fact that her husband

is now in custody, she doesn't get back to me.

I hope she's okay. I asked Katherine for her take on Miranda's situation with Arthur stroked Nicholas. She ought to know. I think it could go one of potentially two ways. One, she is also sucked into his manipulation that she can't get out.

That she just has to survive at this point with him. Or, too, I think she knows more than she's letting on, and is in on it to a point. My producer Helen and I can't work her right either. She's extremely mysterious. Yes, she is.

“I feel like the only way we're going to begin to get to the bottom of her is by getting”

searched with her friends and family. So that's what we do. Helen starts researching her online, while I make plans to travel to Miranda's home city of Bristol, to try and find some people who know her. Someone who might help us understand why Arthur is able to keep her on-site and continuously

defend him in public, despite all the evidence pointing to him being Nicholas. On the flight, Dine from Scotland, I read through newspaper articles which mentioned her and some publicly available records we've found. Miranda, Mary Louise Amite, was born in 1980, so she several years older than Nicholas. She grew up in a pretty ordinary part of size Bristol, with her brother and parents.

She then moved to the South Coast of England to study art at the University of Portsmouth. She appears to have lived between Bristol and Portsmouth most of her adult life. So a very normal life, but Nye, thanks to her, and Arthur's TV appearances, she's recognised internationally as the loyal wife of an alleged future. My plan lands at Bristol airport.

I pick up a higher car and I go back to the thing I love knocking on doors. No, I weird coming up the street for where Michael night lives the father of Miranda. But I don't have much luck. Okay, so, well, success because somebody was in and they answered the door, but Michael lights, Miranda started, well, he shook his head and said no, and closed the door.

So that's very clear, and we will be bothering him again.

He's put into a Scottish newspaper, so I'm still hopeful, he'll talk to me.

“So third time lucky in terms of not the door, Kevin, and he was in, and he opened the door.”

But for straightingly, he won't give me an interview on tip. He said the so-called interview he did with another journalist was really just being ambushed by questions on his doorstep, and then those few comments being written up into an article. He's now much more cautious about the media, but he does speak with me and my producer for a couple of minutes on his doorstep about his sister.

He doesn't like his family being wrapped up in this media story, and he's concerned for his little sister. I call it a day, and head back to my hotel. It gives me comfort to know that Miranda's brother is concerned about her, but it also makes me think more about what is she going through.

She's married to a man who, well, we know he's a sex offender, he's been accused of rip, you know, he's got a very violent temper, which I've witnessed myself.

“So what has he done to keep her by his side, how can you be with somebody like that?”

And maybe it is a question of her being a victim of serious, serious coercive and controlling behavior, and maybe she just can't get away from it, she can't pull back. After a night of tossing and turning, I hit the streets of Bristol again, in my search for someone who knows Miranda, through my internet digging, I find an address that she used to live at. So this has wasn't like this in terms of whatever Miranda moved in, or when she moved

here, it was much smaller, and we had small city moving here, and then a small kitchen, but Miranda mostly stayed in her bedroom.

This is Miranda Night's former landlady, I finally find someone who knows Miranda and is willing

to speak on the record. She was just a big open smile, knew how to chat, complimentary, kind, sort of said how lovely things were, and felt like she'd been no trouble at all. I spoke to Miranda's landlady, who is in total disbelief when Miranda popped up on the news with Arthur.

She wants to speak out, and I want you to hear what she has to say about Miranda's personality because it gives an insight into Nicolas Strog Arthur. Nicolas is someone with a history of emotionally manipulative behavior, and it is possible that there are aspects to Miranda's personality, which may have made it easier for him to get her to play along and passionately defend him.

What her landlady says could explain the lengths to which Miranda might be willing to go to support men she is in a relationship with. When Miranda moved in in 2007, she is working a regular office job, but her landlady felt this didn't quite square with her personality. I felt like she was a really creative person, very artistic, beautifully dressed, quite

“original, and I can remember thinking that job might not quite be, you know, who she really”

is, I felt like she should be doing something more creative.

She was never negative, she was only positive, she was only joyous, a very, very innocent

side to her. She sounds like the perfect housemate, right? But there was one thing that the landlady hadn't anticipated. This was a two-for-one day, Miranda's boyfriend practically moved into, now this is an Arthur, but Miranda's previous boyfriend, Richard.

When I first met him, I presumed he was about 10 years older than her. She seemed so much younger than him. She wasn't subsequently a found out that he was only 40 years older than her, but when I first met him, I felt like she was almost like the innocent in the relationship. She adored her boyfriend, it felt like she lived to make him happy, and so in my opinion,

that shows vulnerability in that she's, perhaps, living for somebody else. In terms of that dominance, did you see that then translating into the relationship he had with Miranda? I did not see him being dominant to her, but I saw her being, in my opinion, subservient to him.

After a year, Miranda moves out of the house, and the landlady and her lose contact. But the next time the manlady sees Miranda, he's on the news, by Arthur's side. It's a shocking story, regardless of who it contained.

as though she's got to wait on her shoulders.

It almost looks like she's acting, yeah, it felt like she was acting grown-up, the way she held herself, almost like a head teacher, I think, when she was here, she was you know, she was beautiful, rosy cheeks, long, open hair, down to her waist, her clothes, were flowing, and artistic, and I didn't see the same person.

“I saw somebody who'd had to grow up quickly, that's what I felt.”

The clothes that she was wearing don't reflect them around to that I knew.

Most of the photographs of Miranda showed her wearing smart dresses and jackets.

The sort of thing that wouldn't look like a place in a traditional office job, and there's a few of her wearing a classic trench coat to nothing, even vaguely bohemian, are by the new Miranda. I did notice that she was wearing the same type of clothes as Nicholas. It looked like he was wearing expensive clothes, and it looked like Miranda was also wearing,

I think a trophy hat and a trench coat in a similar style to his, and that wasn't the Miranda who was living here. I felt like she was dressing up, she was much more creative and artistic, but in terms of Miranda's involvement with it, you know, do you think it's possible that she could be duped? Yes. You do? Yeah, and why? Just because of her character when she was living here, the way she utterly adored her boyfriend, I was almost not surprised that she got

herself into a situation where she was living with somebody who, I don't know, had said,

“not a genuine person or not a kind person. If you could get a message to her, what would that be?”

Go back to your family. You know, get out of it, get out of this as quickly as possible. Leave. And I thought that too. I thought, in order for her to see the wood from the tree, she needs to get away and just take stock of what is going on and what has been said about her husband. I do some digging around and find the ex-boyfriend that Miranda's landlady was referring to. You know, I live abroad, and he agrees to talk to me online. I want to see whether there's any

credence to the claim that Miranda is someone who Nicholas Strogarther could manipulate Orjup into defending him in public. My name is Richard Perry, and I dated Miranda for around six years

between 2005 and 2011. What were your first impressions? Well, with what had been

speaking through the dating side, and I had a good feeling about meeting her, and then she was very polite and very insured her arm. Miranda had her art and Richard. He had his inventions. I revolutionized the way that people installed fence panels in the UK. I'm the inventor and founder of fence brackets for that. My work is well, it has a lot of creativity to do it. She was very much into creating mosaics and abstract art,

and so I used to have helped her take part in its properties where she would write to self-aware and she'd set up a website so that was her own hobby doing something it seemed to have enjoyed with her life. Whilst I was carrying on with my fence brackets and my innovations. Richard, like Miranda's former land lady, could see his girlfriend wanted to earn a living doing something more creative. So she went to an interview in Bristol City Centre,

with this American affirm, a vowel spark which was the paint company. She got the job, which involved advising customers and DIY shops on what paints to buy for their home. She started training with them and then she went to Texas a couple of times in Dallas,

“and I think she was in being cute on their paint deaths. I don't know what she did after that because”

then we broke up because I was so busy with my fence brackets and all the other products. And I just couldn't be both that time to the relationship.

was about her. I enjoyed the company. She genuinely adjusted a pleasant, interesting girl.

“I mean, if all an ex-boyfriend could say about me after years together is that I was just a pleasant”

girl, I'd be really miffed. I ever Richard does offer one insight into Miranda.

I would say that she was always very loyal. And so, having married someone, I would say that

she wanted to support her husband. I would later contact Miranda about the impression that her former land lady had said that she was subservient towards Richard, her old boyfriend, but Miranda didn't respond to this point. So, what we've learned about Miranda from talking to her ex-boyfriend and her former land lady is that she's very loyal, very committed to relationships, very loving, a nice woman,

“but the fact that she was so loyal is she very open to being badly manipulated. I think there's”

something quite genuine about her. She was very welcoming the very first time I walked in their house. She couldn't have welcomed being more making a big effort with dinner and nothing was too much for an effort. I liked her. I felt a wee bit of a connection with her. I thought she was a good woman. So, the whole story is evolving. No, I'm thinking, okay, let's get her to a better place. Let's get her away from Arthur's stroke necklace. God knows, I mean, I'd love to talk to her

on her own, but I don't know if that opportunity will ever arise. I think she continues to believe.

Arthur is Arthur. She never lets that guard down.

So, I've got an email from the Utah County Attorney's Office and I'll read it out. There will be a media release in approximately two to three hours out of the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office and I was advised I could give you a heads-up related to the above. And it's basically saying that necklace Rossi is my fearsing a second rip charge in Utah. The extradition proceedings could take months if not years and in the meantime, there are

lots of regular procedural hearings. Miranda hardly exchanges a few words with me whenever our paths cross a court. It doesn't feed us if she's going to give me a proper interview anytime soon. So, I head over to Glasgow to talk to one of the few people who's got to know her since she moved to the city with Arthur just over a year ago in May 2021. Things have occurred, things have changed. I haven't seen Arthur Miranda's landlord Mr. Suud since my first day of door knocking on this story

five months ago. He told me critically back then that he knew Arthur better than Arthur knew himself, but today I'm more interested in Miranda. When they first moved to Glasgow, Mr. Suud would go around to visit her in Arthur every week for about an hour. I don't think she really knew very much if you're on a speedy, you know, she would have got feeding lady, you know. I'd seen a cataclysm in Arthur Miranda's

flat and I knew they'd got married in an anglic in church, but this was the first time I'd heard anyone say that Miranda was religious. I knew that Arthur stroked Nicholas had been accused of pretending to be a delight more than to woo his ex-wife Catherine. I wanted if he'd used the guys of religious devotion to when over Miranda. Mr. Suud also knew a better bright Miranda's work.

She was doing a job or some company, I could never figure out she'd a travel agent or

she worked with some company. I've always been slightly puzzled about how Arthur and Miranda survived financially. Arthur claimed to be a Glasgow University academic, but the University said he wasn't. He then claimed to reporters that he was a freelance tutor. Do you think Miranda is knows more than she's actually letting on. Mr. Suud shakes his head and then he stops and thinks a bit

“more about his answer. I think I really don't know. I don't think she's that I wouldn't think so.”

I wouldn't think so. I am desperate to sit Miranda down. Lay out all the evidence and convince her

happy ending. Off sorts. She feels sorry for Miranda noise. She's in the flat alone. Her husband's in

“custody in in Edinburgh. I mean, what do your thoughts on for Miranda? Right now, I think she's a lucky”

leading lucky. She's still standing by him. And I think she'll have a better life because she's

more of a maid. I help her than our wife. Why do you say I made her help her? What makes you think that?

“You know, she's constantly looked after Arthur. She was like his carer. Really, she was his carer,”

while I went and hoped from Miranda to engage with me. My producer Helen and I decided to turn

our attention to her husband, Arthur Knight, aka Nicholas Rossi. There is no question whatsoever.

“I do need to go to America. I do need to go to Rhode Island. I mean, there's so much”

you can do on Zoom and phone calls, but there is nothing like being there in person. When I find out that I could go and get my visa, we were a book and tickets, I'd say yes. I am not getting to Rhode Island, and I would just unpack this story with the people that knew Nicholas. Oh my god, nobody knows this, nobody!
