today on a war power's resolution that seeks to limit President Trump's ability to carry
out U.S. military operations against Iran. It's unclear if a resolution would pass in either the House or Senate. NPR's Claudia Grisales reports on what Senate Majority Leader John Thune is saying about the ongoing U.S. and Israeli attacks." Thune says the president has brought authorities under Article 2 of the Constitution when it comes to defending America's national security interests.
“"I think the president was perfectly within his rights to take the steps that he took.”
I think it was a necessary step in order to protect him or his lives." However, Democrats and other critics of the war say the president should have consulted Congress
not just notify them of the plans. Thune is countering those arguments saying the effort will
eliminate a threat that could have cost countless numbers of Americans' lives. The Senator also acknowledged while many questions remain about what comes next that is largely up to the Iranian people. Claudia Grisales and beer news, the Capitol. "The House has expected to vote on a war power's resolution before the end of the week. The U.S. and Israel struck multiple targets in Iran again today, including once in the Capitol
Tehran, Iran has sent drones and missiles into Israel. In Texas, State Representative James Taloreco has been declared the winner over Congresswoman Jasmine Crocket in the state's
“Democratic Senate primary. Taloreco will face the winner of a Republican primary runoff between”
incumbent Republican Senator John Cornan and the state's attorney general Ken Paxton in November. Blaze Gany with the Texas Newsroom has more." Taloreco took the stage right after midnight to let his supporters know that while every vote must be counted he was confident in the outcome. That was before he was declared the winner. He used that time to drive home the reason he ran for the sea.
"This is a people-powered movement to take on this broken, corrupt political system. This is truly a campaign of by and for the people." Texas Democrats haven't won a statewide race in over 30 years, but polls showed Taloreco could break that losing streak, depending on who he faces in the primary. After he was officially awarded the Democratic spot, he sent out a press release saying, quote,
“"We're about to take back Texas. For in PR News, I'm Blaze Gany."”
In North Carolina Senate primary, the state's former governor, Democrat Roy Cooper, will face off against the former chair of the Republican National Committee, Michael Watley, in November's general election. The associated press called the race for Cooper and Watley in each party's primary. Cooper and Watley are seeking the Senate seat currently held by Republican Tom Tillis, he's not seeking reelection. The Trump administration says it's decided to detain all unaccompanied migrant girls who are also pregnant in one shelter in South Texas. As Mark Benton Court reports, some government child welfare officials are questioning that move. More than a dozen pregnant minors, some as young as 13, having placed at the shelter, at least half, became pregnant due to rape. Their pregnancies are considered high risk because of their age and require specialized care. Health experts worry
that neither the facility nor the region can provide it. Anilione is a nurse midwife who's worked in the area. She says since Texas all but banned abortion, obstetric care has suffered. It's not good to be a pregnant person in Texas. So to put this community in Texas and then in one of the worst health care regions of Texas is not good. Advocates say the government is putting the girls there to deny them access to abortion. The administration says that's quote completely inaccurate.

It's now averaging almost three dollars 20 cents a gallon nationwide. Wall Street is coming off another down day for stocks amid the fighting. The down loss 403 points yesterday. The S&P dropped 64. The NASDAQ was off more than 1 percent. I'm Dave Madingly NPR News in Washington.
