is also expanding its campaign in Lebanon. Israel's military says it has launched a new

ground incursion into southern Lebanon to fight Hezbollah. Israel is also preparing for

possible ceasefire talks with Lebanon, as NPR's Daniel Esterne reports from Tel Aviv." The Israeli military says it has begun limited and targeted ground operations against Hezbollah, sending troops across the border into parts of southern Lebanon, where Israel has not previously operated during this current war. Hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians have followed Israeli evacuation orders and fled southern Lebanon. The Norwegian refugee council

aid group says one in seven people in Lebanon are now displaced. A person briefed on the matter

not authorized to speak publicly and speaking on condition of anonymity says Israel intends to

gradually increase its ground incursion deeper into Lebanon, while at the same time there are behind the scenes efforts to try to hold direct ceasefire talks between Israel and Lebanon.

Daniel Esterne and PR news Tel Aviv. President Trump says he'll hold a news conference

today. He did not name a time. He's been pushing U.S. allies, especially European nations to help reopen the state of Hormuz. It's essentially been closed since the start of the war in Iran. Several vessels have been attacked in the Persian Gulf region, including oil tankers. White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt told Fox News, Trump is continuing to talk to other leaders. The President is speaking with our allies in Europe and also many of our partners in the

Gulf and Arab world to encourage them to step up to do more to open the state of Hormuz. And our NATO allies especially need to step up. That may be more unlikely. Several NATO member nations are expressing skepticism. Australia says it won't send ships, Japan and South

Korea say they are reviewing the issue. A powerful blizzard is blanketing parts of Iowa,

Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. From member station WUWM, my own silver reports, people in

Wisconsin are being urged to stay home. In a large part of the central planes through the upper Great Lakes region, there's heavy snowfall dangerously high winds and wide out conditions. Some areas of Wisconsin have had more than two feet of snow, with more expected by the time the blizzard is done. But meteorologists Kevin Wagner, with the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, says, in other areas, it's not necessarily the amounts that are the big issue.

It's the blowing drifting and the strong winds accompanying with these heavy snow. Meteorologists are warning people about dangerous wind chills, as some areas deal with power outages due to heavy snow or earlier sleep and freezing rain. For NPR News, I'm Diane Silver in Milwaukee. You're listening to NPR News from Washington. With the blizzard, the National Weather Service is warning that the highest threat of severe

weather today will actually be in the mid Atlantic. Residents are being warned of the chance of damaging winds and tornadoes. Some winds could bust up to hurricane strength. Some areas will then see rain turn to snow. The film, one battle after another, was the big winner at the annual Academy Awards last night, but it was hardly the only winner. NPR's Bob Mondello has details. Paul Thomas Anderson's satirical thriller with a conscience, one battle after another.

One six officers, including best picture, best director and adapted screen play both for Anderson, best supporting actor for Sean Penn, plus best editing and the new best casting Oscar. But the motion picture Academy spread the love with six of the ten best picture nominees taking home at least one award, right at director Ryan Couglar, saw his blues-inflicted thriller centers take four for best original screen play, best actor, Michael B. Jordan, original score,

and cinematography. You keep dancing with the devil. One day he's going to follow you home. Frankenstein won three technical Oscars, Norway's sentimental value, one best international feature, and the historical drama Hennett, one best actress for Jesse Buckley, Bob Mondello, NPR News. The board of directors of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. is expected to meet today. A federal judge has ordered them to allow a Democratic lawmaker to participate.

Ohio Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Bady is an ex-efficio member of the board. She had filed a lawsuit for Access. I'm Corva Coleman, NPR News, and Washington.
