Diplomatic talks aimed at building on the recent U.S. Iran agreement to remain in limbo. Negotiations were set to resume in Switzerland on Friday, but were caught off after fighting between Israel and Hezbollah threatened to derail the process. Speaking at Joint Base Andrews last night, President Trump said, "He remains hopeful that a broader deal can be reached."
We have an agreement, and it's 60 days have to make a deal. Otherwise, we will do things that won't make them happy, but I don't think it's going to get to that. I think it's going to be very good." The tentative agreement has reopened the Strait of Hormuz, and it's designed to give
“both sides more time to work through key differences, including Iran's nuclear program.”
Officials say the next 60 days will be critical to determining whether the temporary
a core can be turned into a longer term deal. The broader peace effort is though facing another test a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah remains in place despite continued violence overnight in southern Lebanon. And PR's Jackie North and Report Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the two sides will meet for a fifth round of talks in Washington, D.C. next week.
Secretary Rubio held a phone call with Lebanese President Joseph Ayun during which he reiterated the need to disarm the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah and re-established control over all Lebanese territory, that's according to a state department readout of the conversation. Hezbollah has in the past rejected any peace deal between Israel and the government of Lebanon. Rubio also stressed that bilateral negotiations between Lebanon and Israel represent the
only feasible path to ending recurrence cycles of violence. Meanwhile Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire after intense fighting threatened to derail fragile peace talks between the U.S. and Iran. Jackie North and PR News.
“The Department of Homeland Security is scrapping a plan to use a Georgia warehouse as an”
ice detention center, Grant Blankenship of Georgia Public Broadcasting Report, so it would have been one of the largest such proposed sites in the country. The warehouse in the city of social circle was slated to detain as many as 10,000 people tripling the city's population. The city said it's water in sewer infrastructure couldn't support that.
Now the Georgia District Republican Congressman tells the city the plan for their warehouse is dead. Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock also worked with the city to oppose the plan and credits popular resistance for the outcome. It's clear to me now that this White House and this administration viewed social circles
concerns as nothing more than a thorn in their side. Warnock says he's yet to confirm reports that the DHS is selling almost all the ice warehouses for MPR News and Grant Blankenship. They're listening to NPR News from Washington.
“Millions of people across parts of the Gulf Coast and Deep South remain under flood alerts”
after days of heavy rainfall. Forecasters more than additional downpours could trigger flash flooding in already saturated communities from Texas into Mississippi and Alabama. The U.S. man's national soccer team has one another game at the World Cup beating Australia to Nill.
That means no matter what happens in next week's game against Turkey, they're guaranteed to move on to the knockout round. NPR's Becky Sullivan has more from Seattle. Australia seemed threatening. They beat a talented Turkey team 2 to 0 and the Americans were playing without their
star-winger Christian Plicic who hurt his left calf in last week's game and had to sit out.
But the U.S. struck first when forwardful R&B took a pass up the left side of the field and
sprinted toward the goal, then when he passed the ball into the box it bounced right off the shin of an Australian defender and into the net. Then just before halftime a header from U.S. defender Alex Freeman made the score 2-0. This is the first time the U.S. men have ever won two games in the group stage of a World Cup and they've already scored six goals, which is twice as many as they scored
in all of the 2022 World Cup. Becky Sullivan and PR News, Seattle. James Burroughs, the legendary television director who helped shape hits including cheers, friends, taxi and willing grace has died. Burroughs directed more than 1,000 episodes of television and won 11 Emmy awards during a career
