President Trump is once again threatening to fire federal reserve governor Lisa Cook over unproven allegations of mortgage fraud.
“As NPR Scott Horsey reports, the move comes less than two months after the Supreme Court”
blocked Trump's earlier bid to remove Cook. "The White House is demanding that Lisa Cook respond to allegations that she made false statements on mortgage applications.
Those charges were first raised by Trump ally William Poolety, who oversees mortgage giants
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Cook has denied any wrongdoing that her attorneys as the allegations are baseless and promised to fight them in court. Trump's earlier effort house, Cook, came at a time when the president was waging a wider campaign to pressure the Fed to lower interest rates by design.
The central bank's supposed to be insulated from that kind of pressure. The Supreme Court ruled five to four back in June. The president's can only remove Fed governors for cause. The test of the White House has yet to meet. Scott Horsey, in Pair News, Washington.
Former president Joe Biden's son Hunter has spoken for the first time about his father's pardon for him.
Republicans had spent years in political investigations into Hunter Biden's business
dealings. Biden said his father offered the pardon out of concern that he would become a target of the Trump administration. "I am the most privileged person as it relates to that that the capacity to believe me.
