Hello and welcome to the DSR Daily.

Minestine and if I seem highly energetic it's cuz I'm pretending because I was up late last night

watching the US open until 330 in the morning. Why? I don't know. I, you know, early on

said dementia. I don't know, but it was pretty entertaining. Anyway, no sleep. So I'm going to rely on Minna and Riley to fuse this conversation with energy. Minna, you start energy, give us some energy. Help me get through the day. How are you going to do that? Well, we do have a story coming up. That's got a sprinkling, a little flavor of dementia. And at, but before we get there, we're going to cover some some bigger stories. Okay. The White House announced a ban on Canadian

dairy, alcoholic beverages, and select motor cycles taking effect September 29 alongside blocking Canadian firms from major US government contracts in an escalation of trade war. The move follows

Canada's implementation of retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion worth of American imports after

bilateral trade negotiations collapsed. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to reduce Canada's economic dependence on the US by accelerating trade diversification efforts, including exploring deeper institutional ties with the European Union. I quote, "You know, this is the craziest thing in the world. It's almost impossible to believe. This is all going on."

Because as we've said before, Canada's our ally of key trading partner place. When we looked

out to the world, and we knew the world was a problem in places, we knew there was at least one place we didn't have to worry about, and that was Canada. But because Donald Trump has got it, you know, kind of some demented, crack in as many cracks in his dome about this thing. We now have to deal with this insanity. I thought it was quite telling Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, who has handled this with great deficit, great, you know, poison, and all is, you know, addressing

these issues from the perspective of somebody who understood what was going on, unlike our own president, who spouts utter nonsense all the time. He pointed out that Trump was taking this directly out of the playbook of William McKinley, who did the same thing in the 19th century. And the result, as we all know, because we've talked about it here before, was, you know, financial crisis in the United States. Trump and some of Trump's key advisers think McKinley is a good model.

You know, McKinley is a terrible model on this kind of stuff. McKinley was one of the ways smoothed Holly in the 30s and another that we learned this tariff approach just doesn't work. It just doesn't help us. But Trump doesn't read history. He doesn't know anything. Somebody said to him, hey, this is a good model, and it made him feel manly. You know, it'd give him that little bit of shot of that little, you know, to tariffs for

Trump or that little blue pill, you know, while my man again, a problem is terrible for Americans,

terrible for Canadians, terrible for the global trading system. And is there a solution in sight anywhere?

Of course not. Doesn't mean they won't try to come up with some made-up solution before the election in order to say, hey, we've solved another problem that they created. I do want to remind everybody that when Trump ran the first time, he said, I don't like this NAFTA deal. We have to renegotiate this NAFTA deal. It's a terrible deal. And so then what he did was he renegotiated the deal made some not hugely significant changes updated it in some ways and came up with a new North American

trade agreement. He did. The deal that he doesn't like is the one that he negotiated. So where does this leave us? Donald Trump is rejecting a deal that he negotiated and is using as his tactic to get to a new place. Techniques that have been proven to be disastrous for 150 years.

You can't make it up. This is incompetent president at a level we've never seen it before. And we've

Had some pretty incompetent president.

something and he's going to be like, okay, let's go get it. Let's get the day. I'm reclaiming my

title as the Iran War correspondent. Yes, that's good. Last year, well in tea or retirement years. Listen,

it's a good restaurant. In the largest escalation of attacks on shipping since the war began, the US destroyed five Iranian oil tankers after attempted missile strikes on its warships prompting Iran to retaliate by attacking 10 vessels near the straightaway moves and targeting a US basin. Well, that couldn't have any negative consequences for us average Americans. That's so far away. Exactly. There's nothing to worry about. But the intensified conflict has stopped me. If you've

heard this one before, effectively disrupted maritime traffic in the vital waterway driving

International Brack Crude, it prices above $100 a barrel. Well, when you land a missile fuel to record highs, no, so all my diesel fuel is going to be more expensive. I saw somebody the other day talking

on the internet about diesel in their neighborhood, being north of $7 a gallon. I think the reported

price is like $5.83. It's approaching $6 a gallon. You know, if you're driving a truck, if you're driving a tractor, if you're using diesel, that's a real problem. And it's a cost you're going to pass on to who to average consumers. And this is the problem. Trump has no solution. It doesn't know what to do

next. Periodically, it's a button sends a few missiles off to say I'm still here. And the result is

economic chaos for the world, security, instability in the region, and nothing good for the United States of America, which is why increasingly, I suspect over the course of the next couple of months, he's going to try to change the subject. Indeed, this is a talk about it as much as he used to runs maps that show that Canada and Iceland and Greenland are all part of the United States, because that makes us all more relaxed. Did you see the South Park has changed the name of

their show for the year? I give them credit, then I year not up to speed in these things. South Park in its infinite wisdom and sort of unending ability to troll Trump has changed the name of its show for the whole year to South America. And it renamed it in the way that Trump would have renamed it. So credit to them. If you're getting your news from anywhere other than South Park, you're making a big mistake. I'm not our South Park correspondent. I was keeping up to date with

that. That's okay. I'll be our South Park correspondent. Anyway, what do you have?

Former Republican Senator Johnson, new new and Democratic Representative Chris Poppiss, won their respective primaries in New Hampshire, setting up a high-stakes battleground matchup that could determine control the Senate. Back by Trump's new new handily defeated, former Senator Scott Brown, giving national Republicans confidence that his prominent political lineage and fiscal message will resonate with the state's independent voters. Meanwhile,

Poppiss secured his primary victory over a Democratic socialist challenger, and immediately drew contrast with some new new as both parties prepare to exchange heavy ad spending on economics and tax issues. Think of how much money is going to be wasted in these elections, because Republicans are going to try to prop up their majority in the Senate. And they've got just unlimited money coming from the Elon Musk set this world and the Ritchie

riches of this world. To back candidates who have only one quality that Trump is looking for, and that's a love in some Trump. And so also starting today in Dallas, Texas, you're going to have Trump a loser, a mid-term convention in which all these people are going to get together and say, we love Trump. Trump is the best. Trump is doing all this great stuff in exchange for that. Trump will give them money. That's the transaction there. Will it help them? No.

Will it help America? No. If this is a wave election, these people are all going to discover that they're on the wrong side of history. And if it's not a wave election, we're going to discover we're in the wrong side of the border. I'm sorry to interrupt, but I really have to

Thank you and back to the show. Well, here's something that might get you a bit more

energized, David. President Trump awarded Cash Holiday Gifts, ranging $20,000 to $45,000 to four

key White House Aides. You'll never guess who's included in that. According to recently published

Financial Disclosure Forms, a White House official defended the payments as part of Trump's personal longstanding tradition of giving Christmas gifts rather than compensation for official government duties, which is illegal, by the way. That's a prominent of itself, to say longstanding. But it is against the law to supplement the government salary, somebody. So he has to say it was a personal gift, because otherwise it would be breaking the law

and we know our president would never do that. No. The disclosure highlights contributions to

high-profile staffers, including Madly Harp, Margo Martin, Chamberlain Harris, and Walt Nautil, all of whom hold prominent roles within this administration. And two of whom ended up on the real plane off the decoy plane, Walt Nautil, and of course, Natalie Harp. We're learning more and more about Natalie Harp folks, and I don't want a fuel speculation, because I don't know what's going on between the president, Natalie Harp, and it's probably just that she is a loyal

if slightly demented staffer. But apparently, she liked slept for a year, and like a storage room at the golf club in New Jersey, because she needed to be near the president. And I mean, she is like, you know, like cloud kuku crazy in her loyalty to the president. You know, he sort of turned his, you know, what would it be seen as a stalker? And frankly, the secret service was worried about or into a top aid, because what he wants are people who will fawn over

him in a lunatic way. And so who better to do that than somebody who is a fawning lunatic?

You know, what else is there to the relationship who knows? It is no where they, that the president's wife hasn't been in the way, and she may not have spent one night in the White House since he was reelected. And the president's press secretary, when she found out Natalie Harp was on the other plane, and she wasn't ditched the administration. So there's something going on there, and it's weird, and there all sorts of rumors coming out of the White House about

how much unrest there is on the inside. What do we get closer to the election? If everybody starts to sense that Trump is a big old loser, and more and more people are sense in that. We could see more people leave in the White House. The good part of that is that some of them will talk

to the press. And all of a sudden, we will get more and more insights into how this

demented White House works. And that'll give us something to talk about here in the morning and gee, I am getting energized. Well, we're closing out with one story, one final story today about our president, soft launching of fan fiction at the 9/11 anniversary ahead of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. President Trump claimed two firefighters physically carried him to safety near the U.S. steel building shortly after the terrorist attack, because they feared a nearby structure would collapse.

While Trump later clarified on truth social that he was not at the site on the day of the collapse, but arrived shortly thereafter, a White House spokesperson noted he was simply reflecting on a city in shock following the tragedy, very creative, very creative way to reflect. The claim adds to a long history of Trump's unverified 9/11 recollections, which include assertations that he helped clear rubble at ground zero, watched people jump from four miles away

Witnessed thousands celebrating in New Jersey.

about Trump. He doesn't care about 9/11 unless it's about Trump. The fact that 3000 people died,

a blow was struck against the country, global instability, and sued, that it was a great tragedy,

that it was followed by apparently incredible mismanagement by America's mayor Rudy Giuliani who

suppressed, or people in his administration suppressed information about the consequences of the asbestos and all the other detritus that went up in the air as a result of the attacks, which have subsequently led to deaths and illness. But Trump, himself, has just every time he brings it up, it's like, either this is about me or I'm not interested. And that's manifest in the fact that he's not going to be at the 9/11 commemoration on Friday because they wouldn't let him give a speech and

make it all about him, even though all the other living presidents of the United States will be at this thing, because the 25th anniversary of 9/11 is a big deal. But you know, there's another

subtext to this, which is not just the Trump I wanted all to be, everything to be about me,

which began moments after, by the way, 9/11, when one of the things that he was interviewed, and he said, "Well, now my tower is the biggest tower in the Wall Street area," which I mean, think about that in the context of the tragedy that had ensued. But this is also part of Trump's pattern of stealing valor. You know, he goes in with the military and says, "I want to give myself the Medal of Honor." I want to, you know, I'm the great warrior president, even though

he's a multiple-time draft judge, right? And in this particular case, it's like I was in the rubble, and they carried me out of the rubble. And of course, nobody can contradict this except. We do have a record of where Trump was during those days in the immediate aftermath of the collapse of the towers, and he wasn't there. So it's a lie. He's making shit up. If a Democrat did this, they would be literally exiled from the United States. They would be run out of the country.

But Donald Trump was trying to make 9/11 about him, turn himself into a first responder type hero.

When in fact, you know, it's, you know, that's just not what happened. It's, it's also, it's like remembered Butler, Pennsylvania, where he said he got hit by a bullet. But the people who studied this in the United States government said, "No, he didn't because if you get hit by even a little bit of a bullet," or the bullet just grazed his ear, what a torn his ear off. And what apparently was hit by was a little piece of wood off of the podium that he was at, or a piece of whatever

the podium was made out, that, that cut his ear a little bit. But he lied about it because he wanted to say, "I've stood up to an SSN and then he makes coins and, you know, all sorts of other craziness about this." Because he doesn't have a good story about himself. There is no story of Trump

in courage. There is no story of Trump as a hero. So the only way you could get stories like that

is if they're complete bullshit. Fortunately, for him, he's a bullshit machine. He's the

fountain of bullshit. He's the old faithful of bullshit. He is the never-ending source of bullshit,

and he, a lot of bullshit, is about his favorite subject, which is him. Anyway, here we are. We're in the middle of the week. I know men as extremly excited because the NFL season starts tonight. And, you know, I'm not particularly excited about that. But tennis has continued on, and I can lose more sleep over that. But we will do, deep-said radio. We did a really, really super interesting silicon consciousness yesterday. And probably the biggest story of the day, by the way,

it was that the person in charge of, you know, sort of tracking what might happen at and throw a quit because they said that there is a greater than 10% chance than in the next 10 years. AI will destroy the world. And that it is at a control and that even anthropic, which is trying to, you know, sort of be the responsible provider is doing things behind the scenes that are leading to this kind of runaway train of potential, you know, AI that develops its own, quote, values,

and doesn't think humans really figure in that picture anymore. I'm not an AI doomer, but I think

These stories should give us a lot of pause because these are serious people ...

this whole thing. And I think sometimes it's best to take a deep breath, figure out what of this

is true and regularly. We talk about that yesterday on the newest silicon consciousness, definitely,

definitely listen to it. And so we'll see you on all of our other podcasts. And I know that as

soon as Trump uploads the starts in Dallas, Minnesota, and Riley will be sitting there with their

mega hats on watching it, drinking a Trump beer, eating a Trump steak, and cheering it all on. It's

then that correct, Riley, isn't that your plan for the evening? That is the plan, as always.

Yeah, that is, did you? I was going to do that even without the convention. Yeah, just because that's the way you drew it. That's the way you dress around that.

Did Riley, didn't you like once a order like a Trump watch? Did that ever, did you ever get that?

No, I considered it. But you didn't, you didn't actually get that. I want to bet $10,000 Trump tore beyond. But you know, owe too rich for my boy. Yeah, well, it probably doesn't work. Anyway, folks, we're back. It's all happening. It's crazy. And that means they'll be plenty for us to talk about. So join us here and don't forget, Friday, 2 p.m. Substack live. If you get there via our need to know network, you can get there via the DSR network.

And our guests will be our friend, the wonderful Lee McGowan of politics girl. She who is known as politics girl. So we'll see you then. Until then. Bye-bye.
