You're going to die. We've got what Harry and Meghan are up to in terms of trying to monetize Diana yet again and revive their completely dead careers in Hollywood. We've got more

are running the other way. It's not good. And how it was that two major American news outlets

finally did their jobs. Again, we think the nerve. We humbly submit is moving the culture.

Once upon a time, this would have been tidyed up with a bow, John Galliano with Drew crisis averted. Anna goes on with her life. No, no, no, no, no. These two major American news outlets did their job. They did in-depth reporting on how it was that Anna Winter refused to budge for weeks and months while New York City's power brokers told her to drop this, drop him and get with it. Moving the culture slowly, but surely, and we have a repeat offender

returning to American airwaves to Bravo Television to the our opinion demonic embrace of one Andrew Cohen. And if she has to do so on the back of Jeffrey Epstein, hey, you got to break a few eggs.

Good to see you, my friend. It's good to be back. Great to see you. There is so much to get into. I mean, it's Wednesday night, and it's a crazy news cycle, King Charles. On Monday, releases an unprecedented letter reiterating that Harry and Meghan are no longer working rails that they are not to be treated as such in any public or private appearances, no bow's, no curtsies, and their HRH titles are in a band, which means not to be used by them or anyone else. But this headline

Rob, amazing, swiftly buried by who else? The Sussexes, who made it known that they are shocked

and appalled that the King would blind set side them with this, the Daily Mail, September 8th by

“Rob. Martin Robinson, the headline team Sussex, hit back again in Royal Letter Row as they claim they”

did not have enough time to quote clarify points before Palace released it to the public. Now, Palace sources are telling the Daily Mail that this is incorrect, stressing that Harry and Meghan received the letter before its public release. Reporting has it one hour before. But to me, Rob, that's not the point. The point is that these two are saying they're shocked by this letter and the contents they're in when they were given this information six years ago by Queen Elizabeth

at the Sandbringham Summit. Okay. What's the shock at all? It's no shock here. This statement is actually confirming something they have known for a very long time. You're right for six years.

“What are you shocking to them? Is that the King finally got a backbone and said something?”

They thought they were going to slip back into Britain and do whatever they want. The Royals have a long history of carrying on. Just don't complain, carry on, do your duty and I think

Harry and Meghan knew this and were willing to exploit it and are shocked that for the first time

in a long time, the King finally has a spine. The King finally stood up and what is so interesting to me is he did it before they started to make their appearances. So there's lots of talk that the couple, that the Sussexes are looking for different charities, different events and they're definitely dropping the Royal name and so this has got to the palace and the palace has said before they mess this up before they push their luck. Let's nip this in the bird which is a very un-bucking

and palace thing to do. They don't normally behave this way but what it's saying to me and what my sources are telling me is they're prepared for war. They know who these two are. They know that if you give them an inch they're going to take a mile and so before they can cause any shenanigans they've been back 12, 13 days before they can get themselves into any trouble before they can be out there pretending to promote the crown. The King has issued this unprecedented statement. Now there's

so much going on behind the scenes with it. The timing is everything. Harry was at a media conglomerate. Why he was there was unclear. He was photographed by the press that he hates so much. The press that is invading his privacy every minute. The guy can't catch a break. He was photographed signing the wall where other luminaries have been. Again unclear. He's looking for a deal. He's looking to get into what he's reported to be up to. It seemed as though the timing was quite

deliberate. It's not just that. He was already beginning to make those baby steps. It's also that

Prince George on Tuesday began his first day at 8am and we can see the footage here of Katherine

Princess of Wales and Prince William flanking George on his way in and what I love about this footage is not just that it's calm. It's cool. It's business as usual. It's a momentous day that these two are still attempting to hijack with this war of words and the press instead of keeping their mouth shut. William and George are dressed almost exactly like down to their shoes. That's really symbolic. Following in footsteps walking in your shoes talk to us a little bit about this.

Kate initially was rumoured and reported to want a much more casual type of school. William knew

that this school was very important because this little boy is one day going to be the king and he needed to be prepared for that. We should also point out to William loved this school. It's the same school as his dad. It's eaten. People that don't know eaten. It's a very expensive private school. It's a war thousand pounds a year. 80, 80,000 pounds a year and it's just across the river from Windsor. It's only a few miles away from Windsor. It's actually pretty close to

his home. He'll be boarding for about the next two weeks before he sees his mom and dad again, but William had the nicest time at the school. He really enjoyed it. The school

really protected him. I thought it was so clever about today is that when William enrolled in the

school over 30 years ago, there were 300 members of the press standing in that courtyard to take his photograph to film him. Today, yesterday there was just one camera crew, one photographer, one camera crew. They kept it small. They did it together. This footage has been shared around the world, but now they hope that their son is given a little bit of privacy and instead of screaming and shouting about it like the Sussexes do. They handled it. I thought just so smart, so professional.

“We've got the footage. We've got the photograph. He looks great and now I think the press will”

respect his privacy. I think this is such a small move. Instead of leaking pictures on Instagram, which has Megan's been doing, which only increases the value, because we've not seen the faces of Archie and Lilibert for clear photograph of their faces is worth a lot of money. A clear picture of George is not worth a lot of money at all. After Diana died, the rules were rewritten and the British press was happy to. It was not a fight. It was not a scrum. Everybody took a pause and they were happy to.

And my understanding as well before we get into the King's reaction to the Sussexes' clapping back is that the discussion between Catherine and William, you know, eaten, educates kings. William had a wonderful experience there. His lifelong friends, he made their Catherine, I think coming from a background that everyone else in the world can relate to. I think her concern was she wasn't quite ready to let her 12-year-old go. And she wanted him home for a

“bit longer, which is so understandable and so relatable. Yeah, that's what my sources tell me. It wasn't”

about her. Her surname was about her. She just wasn't ready to say goodbye. And this was something that her and William discussed for a really long time. And I think they've probably made the right choice. Once again, William had the most wonderful time there. I think when you talk to Americans, I'm a Brit. I went to boarding school for a while too. Lots of Brit's do this. It's not that unusual. All of Americans do too, but it's definitely a class thing. You know, you have to have the

means. And it's typically also parents who are very, very busy. I think a lot of entertainers kind of park their kids at boarding schools. I wish him the best there. I did not have very many fancy friends, Gregor, but I went to university. I've heard a couple of people four or five who went to eat them. And they said it was a delight. They said it really prepared them for not just work, but for life. And this young man is going to have an extraordinary life. Let's point out to

“while we're talking about timings. I think it's so important. It's the anniversary of the Queen's”

death. Yes. The King's coronation. Yes. And that's what scared the palace. They were terrified while Harry and Meghan were going to do on that day. They didn't know they couldn't trust them.

They ended up not doing anything, but you never knew. And so before that day,

got ahead of them, the kids wanted to make sure that they knew they did not represent the royal family. Now, Rob, there are two things about this extraordinary letter that King Charles issued to the world's media, but pointed directly at his son and my opinion, Gassley, daughter-in-law, they're both Gassley. One is that then the palace said after the Sussex has said, "We wish we could have had time to review." So we could add our notes. Meghan loves to redline shit, just such an asshole.

Like, no, he's the king of fucking England. And he's telling you to do something. It's not up for discussion. That's not how this shit works. The King said, well, the palace said that the palace will not be drawn into a war of words with the Sussexes. It's our good luck. They need to really grey rock. They really do. But you have an exclusive that this letter was the precipitating event

grey and black. Excuse me, there is no grey room. There is no nuance. There is nothing. There is no

“little pocket to exploit. They're not working royals. Go away. That's it. That's what the statement was.”

This is William. The King is very, very soft about this stuff. It's not in his nature. It was not in his mother's nature. They just didn't make statements like this. This is why it's so unprecedented. William was smart enough to know we're living new times. We live in a new world. And if these two start turning up and kiss babies and go to hospitals and do charity events that appear to be royal events before we can cred to that, it's going to go around the world

on social media. Everybody has a telephone. Everybody can video. Committee of stuff and said,

William is a much more modern man. He understands this. He understands publicity much greater

than his dad. I'm trying to be generous here to Charles too. But this was William in the driving seat and it was short. It was precise and they had no input on it because it's none of their business. If you leave a job, let's remember to. They didn't get fired. They didn't get kicked out the family. They left. If you leave a job, you can go back and visit people and maybe even go back to the country. But you can't work there. You don't even get your bad. Your bad just disabled.

You can't even swipe yourself in. You've got to show your ID and someone has to come down and get you. You're a guest. You're now a guest in this house. And this has been a bit of pill for

Harry and Meghan to swallow. I really think they thought they were getting away with this.

Oh, they really did. They did. They thought they did. They issued that statement to people, remember like two weeks ago that was like, they really felt they accomplished what they said out to do in America, which was perfect the half in half out model that the queen for bait. And then they said, oh, we're going to just take our show on the road and go back to the UK where we'll just

“refine it even further. Yeah. I was told too. And I think this is such an important detail”

that where William convinced his dad to do this was to lean into his grandmother into the King's mother. King Charles adored Queen Elizabeth. And I think that William, my sources are telling me, say that William didn't have to make much of an argument. He just repeated his grandmother's arguments. He said that we're on the anniversary of Granny's death. This is what she wanted. We're not saying anything new here. We're not even coming up with a new policy. We're just repeating.

We're reinforcing the policy that is in place. And I think that made it so much easier for the King to swallow. Because once again, this statement is not King Charles. He doesn't want to do this. And it was done, which tells you how dire, how important this statement was. It's so smart to however it was if that is indeed the tactic. I don't mean that in a bad way. This is all strategy that William used. It's very, very shrewd because it was so important that

this came from the King. And that this mess wasn't left on William's front door so that he looks like the bad guy. Because that is also, I think, the game that these two are playing. Let's make William look like the big, bad, cold, harded bully. And to your point that this was done on the anniversary of the Queen's death. The reporting at the time was that when the Queen was on her deathbed, that the Sussexes were fed false information to see if it would leak to the

media, which they were, and indeed it was. And that Harry was also gobsmacked that he was not invited to fly with his brother William to the Queen's bedside. Further, Katherine, Princess of Wales, who was much loved by the Queen, she called Katherine our trust, I think are well loved and trusted Kate or trusty Kate. She couldn't go to the bedside herself because it was a way to just sort of neutralize Marco. So that she couldn't pitch in Monwell. Katherine was allowed. Why was an eye?

Which I think was just a travesty. That Katherine wasn't allowed to pay her respects as far as we know. That's just shows you. It's a great example. Morey and have had a family bent over backwards to try and appease these two. And we've seen it throughout history. The placement doesn't work. It just gives the bully more ammunition. And the bully here was Megan and Harry. Every time the family has turned the other cheek. They've kept pushing for more. And I'm really worried

about this. I thought they were going to win. I thought turning up on their doorstep, taking the war to the palace, taking the war to a dad who is just not equipped to fight this war.

“I thought they had the home-term advantage. And that's why when that statement came out,”

I'm shocked. I've covered the royal family for what 30 years. I've even worked for the royal

unprecedented. It is groundbreaking. We are right to spend as much time talking about it as we can. Because this is history. This is the day that the king drew the line in the sand. Something he doesn't like to do. He's barely done it on his disgraced brother. He certainly given his

son every advantage. He possibly can. I'm talking about Harry. And finally, the king drew a line.

“That's why the sixes were surprised. They were shocked. Yes, I think you're absolutely right.”

It's not even what was in the letter. It was that it was ever issued in the first place. And that it was issued by the king who they thought they were going or Harry definitely thought he was going to steam roll right over him and like push all the buttons. Okay, here's another exclusive and why this is so important. And by the way, I don't think it's over. Like they're not going to stand down. Harry and Meghan, they're not. Are they going to have respect for an alien monarch?

If a lion in winter? No. No. York exclusive. And this is something again. William said,

we're done. We're done with this. We did this for her 20th. And we will never speak of it again

or memorialize it in a wet in a film. And whatever, it's not happening. Harry's Princess Diana movie has a surprise star. Your exclusive Rob, Megan, fucking, Markle. I'm reading from your report. Prince Harry is making a television film about his mother Princess Diana, but sources tell him not. But nice. The project has another major player, Megan, Markle, who will narrate the film. Harry has begun approaching Diana's friends and associates about participating

ahead of the 30th anniversary. And the importance here is that Meghan won't merely support her husband behind the scenes. Her voice will guide viewers through Diana's life. Megan isn't getting a cameo or production insider tells notty but nice. She's becoming the voice of Diana's story

“that makes her a central figure in the film. Rob, this is, I think, it's disgusting.”

It's disgusting. And again, it's like, Oh, William says he would like something not to be done. Oh, let's do it. Let's go to town. I would say before I give it to you, I would say that any of Diana's friends and associates who are considering appearing in this film that Harry and Meghan are doing should kiss any relationship with the actual British royal family. Goodbye. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I've done a ton of these documentaries. In fact, just last week,

guys in talks, there's going to be two new Wendy Williams documentaries. And I read about this show

so many times that both of them have asked me to appear. And the first question I ask is,

who's in the rating it? Who's telling Wendy's story? Yes, we're the talking heads, we're the experts, but who's the narrator. So when the Daily Mail broke the story that Harry was working on a movie, a TV movie about his mother. I hit the phone so right away. And immediately people said it's Meghan and it's not Harry's movie. It's Harry and Meghan's movie. It is the two of them. She fances herself as a TV producer. She has been on television shows. Some have

“been hits. And so she really does feel quite important within the world of television. She thinks”

that she knows what makes a great documentary, what makes a great show. We know that's not the case from her own stuff on Netflix, but they deal that they have with Netflix is a joint deal. So Harry and Meghan are going to deliver a documentary. Don't forget, too. Let's remember, at the premiere of the Lion King six years ago in London. Harry was trying to get her voice over work then. The head of Disney was on the red carpet. Oh, bye. Oh, bye. Right next to Beyonce.

And it was crazy. And Jay-Z and Harry said, "My wife's opened for voiceovers. So I know she wants to do voiceovers. I know she wants to do narration. This is the project and her husband and herself are hiring Meghan. They're not going to hire Judy Dench. They're not going to hire a great grand-dama of the British acting world to do this. They're not going to hire a huge grand to some Brit with some status. They're going to hire Meghan Meghan's going to narrate the story.

And she feels as if she's the best person to tell it because we're like Diana. She's suffered. That's where they're going. Maybe they could show that footage of her crossing her ankles behind she passed through or by rather Diana's death tunnel. Perhaps that would be useful. You know, this is the thing, Rob, with these two, you know, when those photos were released on Instagram, when she took photos of those children of her children and Harry's children.

Oh, by the way, the two shows that were hits that she was in suits, minor hit, dealer and Odiel. That's it. And she was on Beverly, the reboot of Beverly Hills 90210

it was dramatized. But you know, the point being they cannot be trusted, I would not be surprised

“if they did not have cameras with them rolling when they were at all four. Over the summer,”

staying with Diana's brother, who has cleaved off and has his own thing and they're going to ally themselves with Charles Spencer. Not a great guy, but this is all like this is exactly why William is 100% right. They cannot be trusted. They cannot be anywhere near the actual British royal family. Everything will be recorded, memorialized, written down for Megan's future memoir. And it will wind up on Netflix next summer for the 30th. It just will.

Yeah, they've been back. Well, 14 days, 13, 14 days. That's no meeting. There's no phone call. Each six is reporting the King Charles is plummished. They made this big production about coming back to the UK and Harry hasn't spoken to him in the entire time. He's made one effort to reach out.

“They're not spoken to nobody if they're not spoken. There's nothing on the schedule.”

I asked a palace insider, do they have a late September and October? Maybe an November meeting set up? Nothing. There's nothing on the schedule. They turned up. They arrived in Birmingham, England, my hometown. They jumped in cards. They went to the cot swells and they've disappeared. Nobody seen them. They have the emails. Charles does have an email address and he also has a cell phone. They have the numbers and they could have emailed him. They could have found him.

Nothing. There's been absolutely no connection at all. I think this is why this statement is so important too. I know that a lot of the local authorities, a lot of people that represent the crown in the little local counties in Britain. They've been reaching out to the palace saying, "What do we do with these two? Are they? Are they royal? Are they not? The military reached out to the palace asking, "How do you dress him? Is he his royal highness?" The police force has reached out.

And so I think this was the King finally, reluctantly telling everybody in Britain.

“The private citizens. That's what they are. It's incredible. So much, and we'll remember this”

when they also pull out the other card. Oh, we just want the children to have a relationship with their grandfather. If that was really a prime motivator, there would have been communication, there would have been outreach from these two towards the King. Dolly, you report, had been her or her people had approached Vogue at least four times for a cover, and Anna rejected her, each and every time. Even though Kim Kardashian, that Volgarian, was fine for the cover,

even though Lauren Sanchez Bezos, whose physical appearance augmented plastic surgery, one would not consider Vogue either. Anna considered Dolly who had more class in her little finger.

Anna Windour has ever possessed in her entire life. She considered Dolly too tacky. What's amazing

and we're going to show this photo is that Dolly had been photographed by her Brits. He died

incredible video music video directors. If you recall, I believe he directed the video

“for Madonna's Cherish. That's right. In the water. I look like a movie star. He directed the video”

for Janet Jackson's level never do. Janet Jackson never looked more beautiful than in that video.

I had never seen a video like that. He brought that high fashion editorial eye to music video and he sort of created a new sub genre of it. And he photographed her Dolly for Vanity Fair. And she looked editorially perfect. She was Dolly, but just reimagined ever so slightly. Tell us before we get to what Elsa's going on with Anna and her collapsing reputation. Tell us how this story came to you and what you make of it. Yes. Extraordinary story. So Anna was in the news for the

disaster of the Metgala. So I was thinking about Anna and Dolly Parton had just died and I often have difficulty on my substack or on my content knowing what's the lead? Like what is the what's the big story? Dolly's death was so massive and cover of the New York Times above the fold and above

“the fold and enormous. Made the nightly news. I think nine to five of the movie ABC”

reality. It's an eagle on Hulu. It's it's like top right there. There are multiple like 20, 20 specials about Dolly in her life. Like she's the cover of People Magazine this week along with a special commemorative issue. I mean, people cannot get in love because she was such an original. Yeah, so loved and and so exquisite and so fashion. But Mackie was dressing her. The legendary Bob Mackie. She was fashion in fact. She's the prototype for many celebrities today

Kim Kardashian and Lauren Sanchez and Jennifer Lopez owe a lot of their glamour to the over top extravagance of Dolly and so I was thinking about her fashion. I was having drinks with the friend of mine who is in the fashion world and they were the ones that told me you know Dolly's

never been on the cover of Vogue. I didn't believe it. And so I googled it and I searched for it. I called

people at Vogue and they said never and that's when I found out. She had been pitched many times. She was in a feature in Vogue. There was a feature inside the magazine on page 50 buried in the magazine but never ever the cover. And then I started thinking about my own experience with Vogue before I was a journalist, a gossip columnist. I was a publicist and I pitched people to Vogue including Alicia Keys. Who was told no? I was one of Alicia Keys. I pitched Jessica Simpson who was on the

cover of W but not Vogue too, too cheap, too tacky for Anna's taste. I used to pitch Jennifer Lopez to Vogue. She now has been on the cover several times but there was a time when Vogue did not want Jennifer Lopez. How was Anna with friends with Diddy at this point? Probably not yet. Probably not yet. And so I thought this was fascinating that Dolly part and the great Dolly part and had not been on the cover of Vogue and then something really interesting happened. While I was poking about while I

was researching this allure magazine which is really the beauty magazine within Conde Nast, the same media empire that owned Vogue. They suggested that this year's net benefit is a garler to celebrate Dolly part. So a minor magazine within the complex of Vogue is giving Vogue advice. So then I called people I knew at Conde Nast and they said they were so annoyed with Anna and that the death of Dolly was something that reminded them of Dolly had not been treated that well

“by many people and somebody dies. We want to remember all the good stuff and all the specials”

and all those are bitchowaries that we've all read and shed a tear over. There was a time in the 90s where Dolly wasn't selling very many records that she was a little bit passey and she went to Bluegrass. She reinvented herself and that's when she and her people were pitching. Vogue used to mean something. Vogue could have helped Dolly out when she needed a little bit of help. Now I would argue Vogue needs Dolly. Vogue needs Dolly. And you know there was also a time in I want to say

the mid to late, like 2010s era. I remember seeing Dolly part and at radio city music hall and she had been working. I forget whether he was in concert with her or not. It was a long time ago but she had been doing a lot of work with Jack White of the White Stripes as as as was she and you know that may

Dolly relevant to a whole new group of real rock and roll fans who maybe would never have been

exposed to her before were maybe born a little bit too late. So you know Dolly was always you know whether when she was even having you know little bits of career bumps she was always herself

you know she's fairly she's done a fairly good job of having the scrub but I don't win to her

had no problem putting the first lady of Syria married to a butcher in her pages of Vogue and she

assigned Joan Julietbach who had been the editor-in-chief of Paris Vogue, Vogue France to write that story and she caught a shitstorm for that. She somehow weathered it but now so so okay the first lady of Syria were cool were cool. Dolly Parton? No no no okay also the reporting is that she is getting this is like this is your exclusive again slammed for refusing to lay low after this disaster

moving the culture a bit because I don't think that the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal both do in that front page reporting as to how Anna fucked this up as to how all of the board members and multi-millionaires and billionaires were going to the met and saying we are not going to be queath our art you in fact we're going to take what we have on loan to you back you know this is

deep deep reporting that goes to the utter humiliation of Anna Winter and I've I've never seen

up the arrogance the entitlement she was told I know she was advised I don't know if you tell Anna but she certainly does have PR people around her and advises and she does work for for a big company she does not own continents she was advised to lay low which is odd do you know who that was was that people within conde or was that like her own crisis did she have a crisis management it's within conde that there's a crisis no she uses conde's people which are her

people because she's basically hired them but she was told not ask she was told she was advised lay low now that is not that unusual advice that often when people hire crisis PR's I've been on crisis teams for different celebrities the first thing we do is look over their schedule and cancel everything just lay low and if you can survive 24 hours it's probably gonna go away and so she was told to to lay low she couldn't help herself she wanted to get to that tennis she turned

“we're back first I want to talk a little bit about Gloria Steinem who passed away last week”

on September 2nd at the age of 92 and Paul from New Zealand very thoughtfully and unprompted sent this beautiful illustration of Gloria which we're showing as kind of a war holiday and trip tick I love this rendering so much and it really got me thinking like okay we should talk about Gloria and what how what could we add to the conversation and then I I remembered you know the it's it's so crazy because last night I opened the door to the pantry and I have in

there a jar full of matchbooks and staring me in the face in this in this jar smack in the middle of of of the of the matchbooks was this one it's from Cafe Lalo which I don't know if it's still there but it was on the upper west side of New York City West 83rd Street and I was like oh my god I took this matchbook as a souvenir of my afternoon with Gloria Steinem and how that came to pass was I was working if you know anything about my origin story I started it at about 17

I had these dual internships one was at Sassi Magazine one was at MTV and I would go to school when I was not working I'd rather work than be in school it's another story but I worked for somebody at Sassi who I really love turning was Jessica and then she left and went to MTV and she started working on this it didn't last very long but it was this show that was it was about teenagers and like her events and how teenagers saw the world and all of this and she called me one day

and asked if I would be willing to go on camera which I really hadn't been before and be part of this small discussion it would be me and three other teenage girls meeting with Gloria Steinem at a restaurant and they would film it for the show for a segment of the show and I said sure and I went and you know I was very I was I was I was really young and I like I was kind of the sheltered girl who had gone to 12 years of Catholic school and my parents were very protective

and then I got into the city and you know my world was exploding and in a great way and I sat there

and Gloria looked at me and she said something to me that I've never forgotten and exactly

what it was I will keep private but she made it very clear to me that if I wanted a career in media whether I wanted to do something like this which was to be on camera or to just be in journalism that I would be successful that it was that it was basically mine for the taking and I was

“so overwhelmed by it not only because it was coming from somebody as accomplished and important”

as a Gloria Steinem because it was unprompted and it was so generous it was so generous most people who get to these levels they're not they're not everything or everyone it's like a competition thing it's a threat thing she I mean again I was 17 so I I was no threat to anybody

but what I mean is it was just pure generosity and I have never forgotten it ever ever

and so when I saw my little cafe Lalo which you know if I opened it last night just to see what it was like and um they're all this not all the soldiers are there I did smoke for quite some

“time so I think I a few of these were struck but um it felt serendipitous when I saw that that match”

book and then I said to myself oh come on come on Gloria Steinem she's a she's a beautiful book and uh regarding my last book asked not and if you've read it you know that there are multiple chapters about Jackie Kennedy onassus her life her various incarnations and one of the images

old newspapers and magazines I couldn't believe that I had never seen this before and we're

“gonna show it full screen it is Jacqueline Kennedy onassus on the cover of Miss magazine”

and I then went and bought the the actual physical copy on eBay which I have here and I'm gonna read a little bit from it I also got it um it's it's hanging in my studio the cover of Jackie on Miss groundbreaking for its time when you put together photo inserts for a book here's just a little uh a little behind the scenes how that works um the publisher does not take care of that for you they don't buy them they don't edit them if you want photo inserts for your book

it is up to you the author to either hire a photo editor yourself or do the photo editing you negotiate with the various agencies or whoever holds the copyright to get said images

“and you pay out of your own pocket and if you didn't get a big enough advance you go you really”

go into your own pockets luckily I got it a nice advance for astronaut and I was able to buy the images I wanted but when it came time to getting the image of Jackie on the cover of Miss we went to the Miss Foundation my photo editor my researcher and I we went to the Miss Foundation and asked for it and I was prepared for them to ask me for like five grand at least for this image given how rare it was and um in our email we told them about the book and why we wanted

the image and the answer that came back from the Miss Foundation was it's yours please just credit us they didn't charge a penny they didn't charge a penny and um I purposefully chose this image

“as the very last image you would see in the book because I think it is so groundbreaking”

as important now as it was then and I wanted it to be the last image the reader would be left with of Jacqueline Kennedy now it's impossible to overstate how groundbreaking and culturally seismic historically in terms of feminism Jackie on the cover of Miss magazine was this is the March 1978 issue let me just make sure I have that right I believe so a cost $1.79 and the headline is why does this woman work as I wrote an

ask not it's dual meaning why did Jackie work for that time and for the culture and also why is she going to work every day? her late second husband Aristotle O'Nassus was a billionaire and she didn't need to work and you open the special report called why women work and um the

question is is that and the answer is written by Gloria it's her byline well sometimes even

when we pretend not to sometimes don't say this too loud sometimes we actually want to the idea of women working outside the home for their own gratification intellectual stimulation pleasure it was still a debate it was still a debate as to whether even women belonged in the workplace and we still you know women still are subject to a lot of shit in the workplace as we well know but I went and looked again at this um feature and it's just incredible and I wanted to

pull out a couple of of notes that I made for ask not and this is a nice intersection of Jackie with Dolly Parton Jackie Gloria Dolly um she had taken a job as a book editor at double day and she began her job there February 13th 1978 I'm reading from page 300 um she was reporting she was hired as associate editor reporting to two women Lisa Drew and Betty Prashkar this was a revelation to Jackie especially a double day where even the top female editors were called Brides

1978 Jackie had a similar awakening when her daughter Caroline told her to see the feminist work

place comedy nine to five Jackie told one of her colleagues I've never worked for women before um now

of my generation Jackie told stymum is that they weren't supposed to work if they had families

there they were with the highest education and what were they to do when the children were grown watch the raindrops coming down the windowking leave their fine minds on exercise

“you have to be doing something you enjoy that is a definition of happiness no she doesn't say”

it's the definition she says it's a definition of happiness and I quote she's quoting someone else here complete use of one's faculties along lines leading to excellence in a life of boarding them scope use of one's faculties along lines leading to excellence in a life of boarding them scope close quote Jackie continues it applies to women as well as to men we can't all reach it but we can try to reach it to some degree and that line of Jackie's about what were women to

do when the children were grown watch the raindrops coming down the window pane in the back matter to the book I write about um my own mother who worked on Wall Street and left shortly before

“she gave birth to me I was her first born and she never went back to work and um I think”

her life would have been better had she um her world got smaller um and she went on to to help bring up many many many other children and um was really really good at it but how do I put it when her children left home she had a really really really difficult time with it and it was because we were her entire world and she had devoted herself to it and that part of Jackie's life and those thoughts that she articulated so beautifully in Ms. magazine that has

always stayed with me um because my mother was one of those women who is sort of left

a drift once the very hard work of raising children had been done and so um that is my little bit of personal history with um Gloria Steinem now on to Tim Curry who passed away on August 25th this is from the Hollywood reporters obituary published one day later after Curry died at age 80 now Tim Curry had a very storied and a much heralded career I forgot that he was an Annie in the movie version of Annie um but he was he he was also in the 1992 part ABC adaptation of

Stephen King's it as Pennywise he originated Mozart. Mozart excuse me on stage uh before the the film adaptation Amadeus he also on stage played the sazzled actor Alan Swan in my favorite

“year later played on screen by Peter O'Toole I think I saw that movie in a movie theater when I was”

eight nine ten I had never laughed so hard in my life and this is back by the way you could never

make a film like my favorite year or or um Arthur with Dudley Moore today films in which blind alcoholism was played for laughs you could never do it today um Tim was also on stage in 2005 as King Arthur in Monty Python's spam a lot I did not get to see him as King Arthur but I did see spam a lot and loved it he was nominated for a Tony award three times but of course it was his holy original creation of Doctor Franken further in the 1975 film version of the Rocky Horror

Picture Show which played weekly every Friday at midnight down in the village in New York City for decades that made him an icon reading from the Hollywood reporters obit it was while performing in a 1968 West End production of hair that Tim Curry met actor Richard O'Brien who wrote the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Curry helped the playwright develop his mad scientist originally envisioned as a lab coat wearing German with Curry's help the character eventually dawns a corset and

fishnet stockings and speaks quote like the queen the campy plot revolves around a square couple

rain when their car breaks down. Curry's heavily made up outrageous scientist from the town of

“trans sexual transylvania shows them around his maze like home and the lab where he is building”

Frankenstein style a buff man named Rocky played by Peter Hinwood made for just $1.2 million

the musical underwhelmed during its original run but it would become a cult classic known for its rockest late night screenings it played in theaters four years and is probably playing somewhere still today I'm sure the revivals are happening as we speak it brought in hundreds of millions of dollars in its various incarnations and just to make this edition of the nerve full circle we

later recounted he met her in a receiving line where she asked you were in the Rocky Horror Show
