We've got Kyle and Surti in the summertime. Good to see you guys.
All right, let's just get right to it.
“Why not? When Ryan is doing RYEN stuff, why not have Serbian Kyle do a show?”
It's content and it might be bad, but I'd listen, maybe not the second time, but definitely the first. Well, that's some going, right? And Ryan's just firing. Yeah, I might listen to one all the way through. Ryan doesn't seem insecure to where he'd be upset while he's going between fjords and Hacari from a fishing village in Iceland.
There's a long time listener at sucks and I'm eating my lunch watching the third hour of the
today show instead of listening to the pod. I'm all for if you guys want to do something crank out of that episode or two. I don't know what we talk about, Kyle. I don't know. This is where we go right now, put it in a wall dude. I just want to tell me on your what you're open right now, go. Well, it's not baseball. Sorry Jeff Fasson. What do I want to get off my chest? I don't know. I feel
like I've said most of the things I wanted to say, but they're all soccer related. Like, we have Big Cat on, there's a lot to be out by that happened on the soccer show. And I threw him my theory about how, like, everyone thinks soccer guy sucks, but actually, like, insecure football guys, the one that sucks the most. So I kind of like, I did. I pitched that to him. He didn't, he didn't love that though. He thought I was misunderstanding. He's like,
"Well, football is a big deal." I'm like, "No, I know that, but like, no one's just going to be
“"dism." And so I think we were on the same page. So it did not. Maybe it wasn't good. It didn't hit.”
So it was a terrible open who knows. But that would have been my idea, but I've gotten most of my ideas off on that podcast. So, sorry, Kyle. Yeah, we could rank stuff for 20 minutes, maybe? I don't know. Like, if it's a one-off, we could run to properly. I love that. We could do show and tell. Actually, I've been asking to do show and tell for God knows how long I'm going to do show and tell. I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to
a great place for show and tell. I mean, you would be shot. We go live on some of the show. Yeah, we go live. Yeah, the show. We did a blind rank off air. Actually, it was hilarious. This is a while ago. We were just brainstorming shit. But, but I don't think that works in audio format, really. You know, maybe make a good clip. So, I don't know. Yeah, wait, what was the point of view for my friends on the show? I don't know. We could do
like a show and tell with people. That'd be funny. Well, wait, the blind rank in our mod of ideas. What was the point of view about the blind rank? Because you got bigger. You were like, blind rank in your friends. You couldn't live without. And so things you couldn't live without. And then, like, I did everything. And then cigarettes was. It actually would have been a great bit. Yeah, it was funny. Yeah, maybe we do a deep dive into the the the frog room crew. You know,
like, who are they? Oh, there's obviously guys are naming anonymous. Yeah. Yeah, keeps you guys are like begging. Like, why don't you ever talk about me? I'm like, I really don't know what to say, man. I don't, I don't think I just want to shoehorn you into stuff like that. So, you know, maybe a little slower somewhere per cent. I don't know. I could just go more places.
“We could do some maybe a joint travel log. I don't know. We got some on you. Where should we go?”
Yeah, we have to be like New England related. I don't know. VFW halfway between both of us. Yeah. I haven't hated one idea yet. Yeah. Where am I? All right. Also, we didn't really that that it's Spotify. You know, that wasn't really like just like get on the mic anymore. I think when the company was younger, like the ringer was younger, they were trying things out. And then once, you know, shows got a little bigger and more established. There wasn't as much like, yeah, just go take a
couple cuts. You know, so it's just my brain doesn't even go there anymore. Yeah.
I would not mind at all.
But I also don't blame you guys for being like, I actually don't feel like working in
extra day that I don't have to. So it's up to you. If you guys want to do it, you have my full blessing. It wouldn't be terribly hard to just hop on and do it over under properly, though. Yeah, but I kind of want you guys to have like a debate on something for eight minutes. Just
“two guys just to score in the pieces. But I don't know, like, what Kyle, like, what fires you up?”
Like, I guess just have to be sports sports wise. You know, like, what do we argue about? Yeah. I don't know. I don't even know what I would, like, if I was like, to be like, hey, actually, here's my Drake made not a top five quarterback. I don't like to make that. I mean, what do we want to do here? I'm not touching that with him, football. Um, okay.
Yeah. What if? I mean, the thing that would be kind of funny, but it feels a little narcissistic
maybe pitch it to you would be you guys talking about me for eight minutes, trying to guess. You would say that though, right? No, but I mean, like, what does he like? What does he not like and then trying to get it right? Like the roommate game? Oh, yeah. Well, you kind of have to be here for that to answer the questions, but yeah, because last moments worst moments with Ryan, that'd be cool. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I like if there's not a lot, there's not a lot of
lows though. I would, I would guess. If you guys ever had a day where you didn't like working with me, where you were like, not that I didn't like working with you, but that whole, whatever that debacle and the old miss one where I was caught smoking a cigarette outside with the guy who was like
working there after they told me that you had 20 minutes worth of material with your guests, and then
“five minutes later, it's like, all right, we're doing life advice. I don't remember what was good.”
Was that just you and Van yet 10 minutes, and then you just decided to pull the trigger on life advice. After like they just told me I had like almost 30 minutes, seven minutes passed, and then I have to like run past everyone, uh, to the front of the stage. And then afterwards, I was already so worried about it, and then sure it was like, yeah, Ryan wasn't super thrilled about that. I'm like, yeah, me neither. I mean, I guess I guess I should have just hung out backstage the whole time, but I was
just informed. We had a plethora of time. But that was probably a low, and that wasn't even really a U-Lo. That show wasn't the best live show I've ever done. So it was, it was the worst, no offensive. Yeah, everyone that was for everyone. Yeah, it's not anyone's fault. It's not old. This is fault. It's not certainly not anyone on the production side. Lisabeth is an absolute champ and everything. So I would hate for forever. It didn't work. The LSU travelers were going to get
there late that night. Right. So it was like, we miss that night game. So we missed the LSU crowd. It was during the day. I desperately wanted to do a show from Ole Miss. And then it didn't work. And then fans like dog ate a tennis ball. So like, Van was going to be my buddy for the night. And then he couldn't even go to the game. He'd like go back to LA. Yeah. So that part of it sucked. And it was like, you know, you need the night. You need the night life to have those shows really
work. You'd be doing something special with the liver during the day. And it was almost like an assembly. The way it was set up. Because no venue wanted to give us no one wanted to give us their venue for the night. Like, are you kidding me? Like, one of the seven-ray home games we get. We're going to give you our fucking place on the Saturday night. Like, or you nuts. So it really wasn't even that though. It was a Friday, too. I think it was the day or the game wasn't it? It was a Thursday. I believe.
Right. It was a Thursday day. I believe only because we like the process of getting that show out. Those show would like if we released it Friday afternoon, it would suck and you can't release something on a Saturday because it's going to be dated by then. So like we had to tape it early enough. Wait, but but the game was obviously on a Saturday. It's just I don't I just don't think doing shows it games like that probably works before away from the game time. Yeah, but right.
And it was then I just was in Ole Miss for the rest of the time. And by the way, the Ole Miss
“people were incredible to me. We did go to that great bar. I had a slushie. I remember that. It was fun.”
Purple. I went out on myself after the game and it wasn't even close to like having. I ended up hanging out with that guy who everybody knows like a little bit because he knew all the LSU people that I knew and they were just doing the phone cup. You're talking about your good friend Tigraves. No, wasn't my best friend. He's he's definitely I'm not being his plus one to the white party. But yeah, I look, I built up Ole Miss the whole thing and the fact that I didn't have
any dudes and then it was over and then I was living in a strip mall and then I had to stay there. Like I stopped doing that thing where I would go to an SCC game and then to make sure the Monday pot was good and I watched everything on Sunday. I would watch everything on Sunday and I'd be in a room and then I would be leaving like the SCC town on a Monday night to get out of there.
I don't think I do that anymore.
Speaking of in our motto of ideas, this is response. This is from a while back to the succession
“comps on the last Friday feedback. And Jerry was spot on. I think Jerry. I think Jerry's awesome.”
So he's awesome. Yeah. Like kind of awesome. And kind of awesome. Thanks. It's the reason. Yeah. Who knows. So Rudy's wife is explaining. He's kind of hot. You remember like Jerry from succession? Yeah. Just like that. Like we ever seen Steve with the glass or something. I mean different kind of Kyle's cousin Greg. No. No. But Ryan is one of her percent Kendall. Ryan even tried to do a self-conf his Logan, which is an all-time Kendall move.
It's a great. It's a great. I don't think I'm like any of them. And by the way, like Logan doesn't love his kids children. Like if there's one thing on all the rewatches, I cannot stop watching. I just throw on episodes all the time. It's actually getting weird. But what you realize is the Logan does not love the way a parent is ever supposed to love. And then it's all manipulation on stuff. So I don't even think I'm a Logan really. So let's make the case for Kendall. Let me
preface this by saying the characters on succession or objectively terrible people. So this is an a one-to-one personality comp. Was Tom a terrible person? I don't think so.
“I think he was a greedy person. But I don't think that's rags among the worst qualities, you know,”
an operator. Yeah. Yeah. You know, on on some rewatches, socks is Rome. Roman socks. Oh, yeah. I mean, he's awful. Like when he brings Tabitha to fucking Tom's wedding. I mean, it's great television. Yeah. But I mean, I was sucks. And then the baseball game in the Hampton's where he
likes screw with that kid's head and like tore up a million dollar check in front of him. I was
like the episode one. I don't think I was tough. Yeah. I mean, he's funny at times. But I don't think everyone in one's like, hey, that's an awesome dude. No. All right. So so this is a one-to-one personality comp. I've been listening since day one, Ryan is generous loyal and genuinely compassionate. A person torsively cares about this strictly about the parallels. Wow, this is well-written. Ryan's the main character on the plot of the same way succession is mostly about Kendall's journey.
Kendall losing the shadow was far as his father's larger than life present. Ryan constantly referencing and idealizing his dad's basketball prowess. Salt to the of the earth, grit and height. Yeah. Well, there's some parallels there.
“I think you could say the Logan is Kendall's hero. So I think that works.”
Both of them can have an occasional blind spots with self-waters or social cues. The core's light situation still plays. Yeah. That's fair. Career driven to a fall, often sacrificing friends and family pursuit of something greater. Check out their affinity for rap, sneaker, streetware fashion and basketball. Naming your son, Iverson is a reseller move. That's definitely not true. Yeah. Yeah.
As much as I want that to be Jed's not true. Yeah. That part is not true. By the way, him naming his kid the writing room to go what's Kendall's kid's name and they're like, it's Iverson is so fucking perfect. Just so jealous of moments like that where you go like, hey, what would be the best worst name for his kid to like give us another layer of Kendall. He's going to name his kid, Iverson. Well, Kendall's humor is more unintentional. Both have
dry humor that can go under the radar like Ryan when he was on with Bill and find that you're both the eldest boys. I am the eldest boy. Strong taste. Just like to make fun of me with that. But if I were ever Kendall, like if anybody looked at me as Kendall in my friend group, that would that would bum me out. That would definitely be like Kendall's coming. Yeah, I think there are some good points there. There's some harshness of Logan. I think some
people I think can see you as harsh. I don't think you are harsh, but I think some people can be intimidated by you. So I think you have that. Is there a little shiv in there too where like you can be, like she's kind of cold? Doesn't really, you know, especially I mean, maybe I'm just thinking that the Tom relationship is a great like partner. Yeah. She's got some, she's good at some things, but she also has some points for us, you know, personally man and open
relationship marriage. Yeah, after you get married. I think Tom knew it had a time. But Tom was ready to move. Remember, he starts talking about like, why can't you know, there's some, I don't know that there's many Tom parallels, because I just don't know that I could be that calculated in that phony, although I love the idea of having a portrait. He's like, two a soddy. Wasn't Tom's the classic guy who he's just trying to survive, man. Like he's just trying to like
he's always like kind of an adjustable fit. Yeah. He's going to do whatever he can to super
Run about the pre enough, right?
them moving. Did you have something else? No, that's it. Let's do the cover. Quick stats or no stats,
“quick one. No stats is getting right to it. I'm never happier listening to podcasts than”
what Ryan does. It's cowherd voice. Any story that includes cowherd already demands my intention, but Ryan's impression really is the cherry on the Sunday. Included is often as crack. All right. Well, I love doing the cowherd voice. We just do it all the time in the hallway. It did it before we were friends. Don't know that he loved it. If I've learned anything, don't do a personations of people in front of them that you're not friends with because they don't like it.
But if you are friends, then you can do it. So you could say, Summerlings a lot like interest only seven year are. Oh, right on later. Love cowherd. That we turned out in your game before you did that on the microwave. It's basically the excited high pitched and then like a half-baked idea. That's basically what they put the cowherd impression. That's a good equation, right? That's pretty good. But it's a lot like a salad bar.
Low on carrots. Oh, I didn't know we had feta. Now we got a feta option.
Carefully, you don't want to flood the market. And now there's always like a salad bar I went in there
for me. But he did a rust belt one which to this day, Van Pelen, I talked about this rust belt segment that he did. And that's a beauty cowherd is that you don't understand like you're kind of like, what the fuck is he saying? And he ties it up. And you're like, I don't even know that I believe it. But man, those eight minutes. That was a ride, man. That's, if you're ever confused on why anyone in this business that makes decisions, why they've been obsessed with cowherd for two decades,
like that is it. And it was all relatable. And like I was trying to do my shit and nobody there, not because I was like brilliant. But I was like super sports guy and decision makers were kind of like, all right, cool man, you get it, dude. Yeah. Watch the games again this weekend, buddy. Awesome. Oh, you take notes. Yeah, cool. Coward. We do the thing about how retirees are ruining wide receiver dips than the AFC North.
“What was his rust belt thing? I don't remember that. He did this whole thing about how the”
big 10 was toast because of the rust belt migration numbers. They can Colin did that. Wow. No, it was SEC Colin when it was the ESP. Right, right, right, right. And now he's now he's big 10 Colin. So time to be big 10 Colin, honestly. Yeah. He knows his partners. He doesn't well, it's another reason why people in charge love him. Yeah, he got, he got really into soccer and things and would fox. I love it. I'll be honest with you, but it did happen. Yeah,
because prior to the soccer boom when Skipper picked up the soccer deal, I remember him doing a segment
about soccer being like, basically homeless people play it. So I don't know, culture enough. I mean,
he was, it was ruthless. It was like 2014 content, 2012 content where you could, you could say, like, for the great awakening or whatever. Yeah, right. Look, you could say some shit you shouldn't have said, you could also say some stuff where it's like, yeah, I don't know that that was that big of a deal that he said that, but then it got processed all different 16 17. I think is when the shift happened. Kyle is loving the Lucy pouches. He's just on it. He's like, I can't believe
this is one of the perks at being at bar stool sports. They come in handy when they need to come

All right. Confirm that Ryan is a base 2. I need to confirm that. Maybe after the cowhert voice. I do a big fan riding. My brother I have an ongoing debate regarding whether you are a
Base 1 or a base 2.
and a second tenor with the resonance of your profundo register. However, I would be shocked if you
were not consistently hitting the D2 notes as a true base. Yeah, I was I was base 2 in high school.
“I don't know what happened. It was it was early. You have the same stuff in high school?”
Yeah, I was in the choir. Like I was in like the good one. Like choir and over sounds. Choir sounds like well, same not an elective. Okay. All right. Well, I was in it. I was in the one you took. Well, they took it so seriously in my high school that you you could make you did you could just be in chorus right anybody. Like instead of an instrument. Or you have we had the we had a piano player you know somebody who played piano. No, I'm saying like you either played instrument or I think you were in like a music
class like chorus. You had to do one or two. I think it was one or the other two years and I play.
Yep. Well, I had to carry that right now around for a few years. I just put my fucking clarinets on kids. So such a bummer. That's a wild thing though. If you think about it. Like everyone like it's good for the arts, right? But every single kid at some point has to pretend he's going to be in the music game long term and you're looking at the catalog. There's so many trumpets.
“I think that's good. You don't think that's a good thing. I do think it's a good thing. But I also think”
it's kind of wild from like a markings. I don't know if that's still the same now. But I remember being there like by brought back my my thing and I like I think I want to play trumpet. You know and I showed the catalog to my dad and he's like you're going to sing. It's true. He did. You already got all the equipment bow. You don't need to you don't need to professionally clean your vocal chords. So we're ready to go. I don't know that you took the recorder series enough.
You know what? You go. Good. All right, fine. So what was so funny is like I think I had the middle school like or the middle school elementary. Whenever they maybe start doing trumpet I had the thick-to-schools version of that and then I had to switch over to my ants old one and I didn't want to do it at all and we had to pay to get it professionally cleaned and then they were like holding this thing over my head that like in your aunt you know gave you this trumpet or the gave you this
yeah and this is the worst part of my day and like you want it like what was it grateful to you
“and I think in her every month for this I don't understand but like they were they had a totally”
different view of it that I did. Yeah, I'm just assuming that they don't like guitars not up one of those things like why couldn't I learn to play guitar high school you know like why is it it's not like more of a club it's all the classical instruments you know big rooms could I play drums I could be like drums a nice school big band now isn't the whole big horn dude let's take all me yeah I'm gonna tell you I'm gonna I just love throwing big in front of anything now
it's just so great isn't it? I mean it's probably ROI yeah more often than that it's like that way every year but like ever since like the normal awareness just throwing big front of something yeah it works it plays it's been playing now for a little while yeah mix it in the year routine yeah based to clearly based to I probably could go down and do a scale right now if I wanted to but I don't know man that's gonna live forever so I might not do it I'm actually not going
to do it but yeah I'm I had an absurd absurd like low deep singing voice I could hit all those notes
down there yeah yeah people thought I was doing a fake voice when I first was on the air they're like
no way no fucking way like this guy is a fake voice well if you came out with some sort of like music collab situation then you'd be more like Kendall you know some maybe that's I'd down that half well done well done all right the only child hatred needs to stop I think that's directed at me wonder who that's coming from long time listener here I'm writing a new expression frustration that I've had for the past several months of the groups to stain for someone who's only child I guess
all of a sudden whenever it was a joke yeah oh okay I've brought it up I've brought it up yeah there have been life advice emails so it'd be like are you an only child and then some guys usually will like follow up me like yes I am or like the one guy remember the one guy was like mad about his roommate set up and I was like you sound like you have like two older sisters or whatever he's like I can't but he goes I have two older sisters and there's like a huge gap
look yeah I can tell I mean look doesn't mean I'm gonna get it right all the time but like sometimes I can tell but based on personalities like you had two older sisters that like baby they should out of you I think you're a little soft and then it's like all right so back to the email um whenever an only child is brought up during life advice there's a collective agreement
That someone with no siblings tends to be a loser I don't think lose I think ...
characteristics as an only child to myself but look like predispose it things it doesn't mean you're
“gonna get you know that disease that your grandfather had but I think you're predisposed to”
certain things also it's sometimes a bit so yeah as an only child myself I heavily disagree with the sentiments I would like to share some perspective though hopefully change your minds especially for silo's although Ryan does have siblings his current lifestyle is extremely similar to that of an only child growing up with those siblings you learn to appreciate being alone there's in someone around your age you can constantly turn to your interact with his a child as I've got
older I realize that being an only child has made me very comfortable being by myself sometimes I actually prefer it I feel that this perfectly represents Ryan saying of I'd rather be alone than annoyed might be a slight shift on that philosophy but Ryan you may not think about it but you're living the life of a mature old child us only children aren't weirdos desperate for attention like you may think we're independent can handle situations such as solo dinners travel movies just
some perspective I wanted to share I tend to agree with the group suggestions but your opinions on being an only child are disappointing I hope Ryan can reflect upon this and accept he is one of us also RIP to Oregon and would love to see his Zach Haul swap for an episode I don't think it can be I don't think that the criticism usually comes from like being weird I think sometimes it's like you're not playing well with others I think that's more
where that's really what it is like you're not interacting well with others or it's like you're having a hard time when this thing is not 100% going your way and it's just specific to some emails we get and they're Ryan Ryan I think he Brian knows he rows up only children out there and so he goes a little bit harder once we get on that topic but you know we're just saying sometimes you're predisposed to certain actions by not having to share as a kid
I've had some serious relationships with only children and there's just things that you'll notice to be different okay put the same way like as I mentioned the younger brother scenario with two older sisters that just ran them into the ground like all of us can have great things about a space done where we are in the sibling chart like I think because I'm the oldest and there's such a massive gap between the youngest to the oldest that I tend to care you could even say
worry about them a little bit more because I feel like I'm somehow their protector even if it's sort of absurd because we don't live together anymore but like if something happens to one of my siblings it devastates me and I don't know if I if I were the youngest I'm not saying that the youngest doesn't have that same compassion but I might be more predisposed how much RAM is that taken up for them you know right right yeah you know the middle child thing is is the one that's
always sort of fighting to be noticed you know like all of these different things I would just say
whether you're skating relationship it's Kyle raises his hand we're a user or you the oldest
“on the oldest so that that's what I was saying like you and I I don't think we have different”
oldest child qualities okay I because like I I'm one of three after younger sisters my youngest is classic youngest is funny she's outgoing whatever you had up my middle is classic middle and I think I have some oldest qualities like I do like to kind of like do things on my own like not be bothered I can be baby I'm probably my mom's favorite um probably laugh at that so you're definitely your mom's favorite uh but I don't know like you and I I don't think you and I we are different
like we are oldest oldest different whereas I think like only child only really means
like you kind of only know like the the world kind of is always revolved around you right
yes I think that that that there's and there's varying degrees of that like our friend Rochelle Smallman only child there's some things that I feel like oh yeah there's an only child come out of you and then but she's always like very similar I forgot and she's she doesn't it was not these things she's an oldest child yeah so yeah I think there's you know it's a skin you can be anything you can be it yeah you can overcome yes I would say the downside of it that I have noticed
time and time again is that there is a bit of like there's there's it feels like there's less empathy okay and there are our times that I've noticed where it's like hey do you not realize like and that that person maybe never had to realize it because they just and it's not necessarily their fall it doesn't mean that only children or excuse me only children are worse than the oldest or the youngest or all that kind of stuff is that we all have some things that we
maybe are more likely to kind of like develop and I I don't want to call it selfish because that's not entirely fair but there there have been sometimes at least in my experiences where there's some selfish tendencies where I don't even think the person is a selfish person it's just
“kind of a default setting of like I'm usually gonna get my way because that's what's happened”
yeah for my entire life it's a different between correlation and causation right we're talking correlation here yeah what do you just worry for did I do it was that like no I'm sorry
I was just impressed by you by you dropping out that that that now I don't sa...
VFW okay we're still as a hypocrite about bulking aging and NBA big men not love hearing all the times year how Ryan is injured himself during working out trying to maintain his bulk well more of it's now fighting but not like really I'm not going to sparring sparring against people that could kill me okay but they're paid by me as coaches so they don't really get to kill me I'm gonna have to be in the booze yeah although I've said hey you
you know you can start like punishing me a little bit more here buddy like you can't let me get away with this shit like when I get cracked in the nose and I like stop for a second and then they stop
“and I'm like you can't stop like I'm mad at myself and that's why I just stopped you”
I'm gonna hit you again get yeah you're gonna break me of this habit because there is no stopping you're just gonna go hey time out all right that's in the side there what are if guys ever try that
like a real street fight like what are you guys ever tried yeah never you're shit I've never seen
like a time out I've seen like other guys like all right we're gonna get you guys off each other but like you want to get like this time out time out young kids go like you're gonna kick yeah maybe kids all right and again this is just working out by the way this is not like me rolling this some badass gym and torrents being like who new guys in town all right so gets her all the time then he has the audacity to get on an bead and Anthony Davis for keeping
their bulk when the model big man Tim Duncan lost weight is older years maybe try to follow Tim Duncan's lead and what you preach and slimmed down as you approach 50 to ease the stress under your joints otherwise don't complain about and be and Anthony Davis don't complain about the embies and 80s of the world when you would also rather try to have bulk cheers yeah this was bait this was bait yeah this was bait yeah we even need to address how fucking dumb that email is
yeah I mean do we want to point out like the obvious fact that you don't get paid to play it to fight people or to do more tie and these guys do and your job is so interesting about talking about them and I'm not taking a 30% of your cap coming back out of shape every single year
never being able to finish a season in dooming millions of fans favorite teams chances
“I think there's a slight difference I do think we've gotten obsessed as a and I'm part of this”
problem we've got obsessed with like pointing out hypocrisy and all parts of life we're like now we don't even know what it even means or where it applies properly and this is a perfect example of like that doesn't make any sense like I even asked you I joke I mean I forget what we're talking about remember when I was like what's your goal because you're talking about some sort of lifting thing like what do you try because so I thought about it like why are you still like lifting to
get paid like what is the goal like what are you always trying to get bigger and trying to maintain because I don't know so I think it's fair to be like what the hell is Ryan doing but then to be like actually then you can't critique Anthony Davis or Joel on beat is just like all right now now you're just a troll so sorry dude I feel was a great email but I lectured you know why aren't you a guest on Dan Patrick more this show and Dan Patrick show or really all I haven't consistent rotation these days
I can't stand most of the sports talk shows anymore to me you are the two most authentic people talking sports this is very nice even though sometimes both of you all have some bozos on his guests but I get it well name names I'm almost I'm almost 40 so Dan Patrick is legendary as I grew up loving sports center
I locked in a D.P. show around 2017 full-time I'll be honest I never really listened or watched you with
S.V.P. I started listening to the show around 21 and enjoyed your interviews on P.M.T. anyway I guess I see a lot of parallels between you and Dan Patrick I like how you all ventured off for me as being a built something special without them and you all do it without the hot take the Atrix it'd be cool to hear a story about y'all's relationship and if I you know if you get them I had them on the pod and I'll tell you it was kind of that episode and I also know that he hates doing
everybody else's pod especially with the guys cranking out five days a week all time like even me doing
“three sometimes four things a week I don't really feel like doing a lot of other stuff so I think I've told”
myself I was never gonna ask him again to do it I love going on with him but I'm also like the times that I've gone on with him it was kind of like hey can you do this at 7 a.m. and then one time I was like at the finals and even I was like I don't know if I can even fit this in because it's him and I'll tell Fritz I'm like hey you know I'll do whatever I can for Dan like for the rest of my life because but I didn't have we were not tied at ESPN he was kind of on the way out as I was coming in
I thought like he and Kilburn my two favorite anchors ever we don't we're not like buddies but I do always think of sending him a text every now and then just not like something that'd be very classic me and like not making any sense like I almost center picture me taking shots like around July 4th was like thinking about you on 250 which has
Been saying because I wouldn't be thinking about Dan Patrick what I it's some...
that kind of stuff because I have the relationship with other people but look I love Dan
I love Dan to death it's just likely a scheduling thing but I I know when I go on with him like I want to do a great job I want him to be psyched that I came on as a guest because I just look he wasn't just a great sports center anchor his radio show when I was driving around before I even worked at ESPN and then like that jump from being in my truck listening to him every single day and then four years later trying out there like you want to talk about the timeline of your
your life and that I don't know that I've ever had anything close to that quick of a jump from that moment to then four years later and then you start going like oh this is going to be normal the host in the fucking grambies a couple years which I would be terrible at wait did you overlapped
“at in radio with him then when I was doing fill and stuff yeah yeah it was done I think what”
oh seven was he done yeah so if I look it up man that might be right on the number um because before I got there I just know that I was there in 11 yeah because when he left radio it was like big deal man I mean obviously it was a huge deal but I remember everybody kind of like milling around the office in the radio cubicles you're like what happened and there was some story about how like somebody flew in her ashes he'll meet with him and he was like nope
and then he just knew and by the way what he did on his own versus me just joining a podcast company they cannot be compared like he was doing real pioneer shit I just was part of the wave
of what had already happened so um but yeah I think he had a little bit of a never say
so we should like that so you're definitely not gonna know that is but oh well look it's true it's true I don't when when we talk about like what guys have done and put a flag and it's stuff or like if somebody was trying to compare me to McAfee and I was like I don't I don't look at myself at like McAfee came from a position where he already was known first of all and so there was there was an easier transition for him because who he was but that also allowed him to like call
his shots in a way that very few people could ever call their shots and it's worked out fabulously for him and you know I always admire shit like that so I don't think every single guy that like leaves yeah you could argue he in an odd way like sort of reverse engineering it
“because he like then teams up with the big guy which is the best thing you can ever do like when”
ESPN wants you when they don't have you you were gonna do so much better than when they really have you absolutely all right where is all right this is a one we get a lot of where is Kyle and sororities relationship outside of the show tells you all you need to know I would say there is probably room for more it was that fair to say Kyle totally you know I thought about this summer I've been like hey
like you're close like before you used to be in LA so it's like okay I'm not like a hangout Kyle when I go out there and now you're about there too I was like should I know what you're gonna say I was like should I have met Kyle and Dan Berry should we had a day together like I do I have thought about these things I will say it's not an excuse but I will say it is a little bit difficult to kids there's some schedules going on we got swim lessons in the afternoon and
“different things going on but yeah like I don't know I think Kyle and I have always been cool like it's”
are we like do I know all the intro is Kyle gonna hit me up about like serious life stuff probably not I'm also like a hard person like I don't I am close with like five people and I just I just kind of have a limit and not that like short increase rate into that or something but like and they're like long time dudes and I'm not even including Ryan and that I guess Ryan would would kind of be in that category too you may be the sixth guy but but my sort of friend
I'm sort of at I'm sort of like at a capacity with like really close friends and then I'm and I'm not like a social butterfly in any situation to be like hey let's go hang let's go to the yard go to the game let me meet you halfway I'm just like bad at that stuff so I guess like my self or four car could be I it could be better but like there are there are absolutely times and I'm like man like I would have like when I was younger and like whatever like Kyle and I
chopping it up I could have been a lot of fun but it just I feel like I don't know that I'm at that
point my life yeah I mean he was he started as a we were always remote co-workers never had
have not been that right uh he started like coming in as my boss and like we did he did like a tiptoe around me I was actually really happy to have like I mean Ryan was talking about him forever and like I was happy to have like a boss sort of like to put one between me and what are the higher-ups that I like so I kind of he was always like dude I'm not trying to step on any toes and I did I tried to break through that pretty quick I was like no dude absolutely not this is great
Honestly I think we worked really well together at our last stop and then I t...
like almost every day during the transition here during that summer and stuff so um yeah and then every time we're we're in like a city for uh either with that core week stuff or we'd go on a travel thing it's like you know I don't want to say fast friends but it's like I guess you
could say like it's like we picked up right we're left off and he's always he's always asking
“me because I think he knows I got the I got the the late night uh burn the late night oil in”
me everywhere we go and he's usually getting off a flight he's always like all right we'll find what daddy want to do it is I try to get this one is he's going to be the next one to get me choice as soon as we get there so like he's uh he's he's a good friend to me and I think now that we're you know we're in an hour or two away from something that we could both go to uh I think it'll happen more but again father or two totally get it I think it's fair okay next email Kyle where does
upstate start Kyle where do you believe upstate New York starts I'm from southern westchester and resented whenever someone would call that upstate I personally use the kipsy New York as the border thank you for your attention to this important matter and um I also bought the risotto sobbing on block is a wedding gift still available by the way um saw we just going to the case over here with the house all right so yeah Kyle you take this one
“I've been I do I soften on this over the years I used to I used to resent it as well um and then”
I went to college with I mean you can't tell in New York City person anything listen if I'm like if I'm in a in a bar in this in this mid-hutton valley area I'm talking to somebody from yeah maybe well I'll get a little bit more intricate or nuanced about where the line should be but if I'm talking to somebody from New York City I'm just like yeah man whatever you're right because I mean now there's like there's gift shops around the vaster college area here and in the window
they've got all these t-shirts and shirts that say upstate and chill and I'm like all right this is in my own backyard they've they've resigned to this upstate I can I'll say like the mid-hutton valley I tried it you know I went to school upstate New York that was my whole thing it's like how can I drive five plus hours and that's still upstate New York from where I left so you know you can't tell New York City guy anything I'd say probably above Westchester it's upstate to anyone in New York City it's
all that's fucking sticks to them anyway you know so sure I live on upstate New York I live in the Mid-hutton valley I live in the crown jewel and I guess I also live in upstate well so if you google upstate New York they'll give you a map and pickips you is not in that little red zone it's just south of it starts as like when it's not sure yeah below Albany all that little I don't know and then Albany still four five hours from the top of New York state so it's like whatever and he gives that weird
Western New York part I don't even know so yeah I guess I'm upstate did we already address why Kyle is voicing the afflicking tro one Netflix is opposed to the way it plays out on audio I don't know if
we were maybe I tried to I tried to bring that up the other day I thought we I thought we did basically
we just yeah we don't have the rights to it I don't know if we should say this I'd say it loud but yeah yeah fortunately yeah that's a bill guy yeah yeah that's a billy and dollars and we said no and yeah that was just kind of like a legal worker so I was like if it sucks like would let's not do it and I didn't know because it's my own voice it's really was like that's way better than I thought you were gonna do so it was good so long story sure it was good enough I
“guess yeah I love this one because I think there's like a list of stories where I”
it was almost tempted to go over and was so rude and be like okay like I don't probably need to tell the story about how Danny Angel told me cap space is pointless anymore and there's a few of those which obviously now means you guys are just gonna hit up the emails be like here's a story you don't have to tell anymore but there was um there was a thing once with Mike and Mike where they did this study and I think it's bullshit I think they
just did it to like motivate us and stuff that was like something absurd was it was like 75% of Mike and Mike's audience is within the last six months but then they kept saying it was like this
would be like 4 billion people would be watching a show we kept doing compiles like numbers on this it
doesn't there's no way that makes any sense and it was obviously just a monster monster of a show but the point was is that if people are only with you for 15 minutes if they're if these shows are growing at this rate and it and it looked as showed it incredibly well but it just was an impossible like set up it was just the math on that like there's there's no way the show's been on for how many years and you're trying to tell me that like three quarters of the audience is just
finding out about them in the last six years and then that just adds to whatever like no and I remember like somebody said it in a meeting once and then middle managers couldn't stop fucking repeating
It would go on for like years yeah it's like what's like the Marilyn Manson r...
someone just made it up and then it just been then it just became a thing for a while yeah guys is a legend whoever got that to stick that guy's fucking legend yeah I know you go anywhere in the country and a guy's would be like yeah heard that too you know why did it it's crazy it's crazy
“yeah that starts that you're right like who even told like who don't remember like imagine like the”
or just sort of who's the first person to tell you that to like I don't even like who told me that
imagine if you tried that with different guys and then like Marilyn was the one that got to stick yeah he was like yeah he did it with me and it's like no one believed him but yeah that's great that's smart Kyle I like that so we sometimes the podcasting thing is different you're not listening to me for 15 minutes you know and if the podcast things even more intimate than me just being an option on the station that you're listening to because you'd like the
line up or you more importantly probably hate all the other lineups back when you were at ESPN so this is an ESPN story that we have brought up a few times the canal putting Wendy's on blast story gets told every year too I remember when it happened it's a memorable story in laugh I guess we were drafting what fast foods we were trying to figure out a new way that we changed it so many different times we were trying to figure out a way to make that last
five minutes segment of the show be some sort of appointment listening thing which is sort of the motivation behind life advice because I was like we just need to end shows fun but have some
sort of appointment thing all the time and we used to always try a million different things and
some reason the radio thing had never really felt like an even clicked but we got into the old drafting game which is never necessarily a bad idea we were drafting fast foods and can it all just was like Wendy's their fries talk or like they said trash fries was the durian
“yes they're not even tough Wendy's in trash fries yeah it was like I think we did”
after doing Wendy's minutes later yeah not a great idea so the email continues however never since right with me that canal gets the full front of it I don't know the intricacies of the podcast produced responsibilities but I've always suspected the good chunk of blame falls on serruti surely with a top 10 french fries segment it's not a producer to be in the co-host ear with a firm keep in mind that Wendy's as a sponsor I repeat Wendy's as a sponsor
on my mind because I'm at Wendy's an unsponsored fast food establishment eating soggy fries and appreciating Danny speaking the truth PSI loves serruti but the everybody hates serruti angle does make for funny content even though that's kind of what that email was no I actually think your he's right I don't remember though I don't think we were drafting like I don't remember what the origin of it was like if it was a straight like hey yeah we're drafting fast food things
I probably could have been like hey don't trash our sponsors here the three of them like kind of be nice to them I don't remember what the actual premise was for though so I could be wrong you know it feels like it came kind of out of nowhere it's on us the people talking okay on that one that is 100% on us that's not if you knew the dynamic and how that worked I mean yeah maybe like a 20 year producer goes hey if you're doing this let's make sure there's no sponsors on that
serruti's role at that time at ESPN radio on that show he would not have been expected now granted if we got into trouble then serruti probably would have got yelled at although they didn't mind yelling a canell and they certainly weren't afraid to tell me that I wasn't break but that was just what actually don't think it was Danny's fault either because he didn't really do the reads on that show so he wouldn't you know he probably doesn't is he listened to every single read that you got
that you would do probably not you were doing most of the stuff like what you I mean we shouldn't be doing it now because we don't know when these might come to the sales guys with a buy or something we love Wendy's what they do that the only one she nuggets come on she didn't even say that you want to have an open mind about sponsors you don't even have right you want to be nice about a potential sponsor so it's not great business to be on the air trashing any brands
“whatsoever so I just I'm sure you have to trust me on this actually it was not a position at that”
time to be telling Danny what he shouldn't be doing actually and that now I think about it too I think we were I think I think it was a draft of things that we liked somebody said Wendy's fries and then he said oh those trash fries like it was not a negative segment now that I'm
now that I'm first of all who would say Wendy's fries dude I don't know I don't know I love Wendy's
I think even when he would admit yeah yeah yeah that's like Burger King like now you've seen their new ad pictures like our food used to suck our bad it's better to see oh it's like I don't expect it yeah but it's like my whole real chicken brand where it's like no one should be psyched about you saying hey it's real chicken now yeah you now it's 100% real cheese now it's like an 80 ad campaign all right 1980s contra you know like I got it
Hostage is you you want to sit there and tell me like it's real chicken in 19...
this is great just like whoever did it in 2021 I was this is fucking stupid all right last one here this one might be a little deeper um I guess all right Ryan's self awareness spiral hey gang 27 510 180 250 bench through 65 squat and clocking in the 39 minute 10k that's five miles
“shout out Oregon yeah sure I think that's good just thinking about what I had to do it”
10k is not five is no it's a 3.6.2 yeah is a 5k 3.1 yeah sorry I got feedback is simple Ryan is so self aware it's almost to his detriment I agree self awareness is probably your biggest ally and socially navigating the world and Ryan is the final boss of it he's aware of how he's being perceived and he's aware that he's aware of it philosophers could be stumped by that one Ryan builds counter arguments almost every point he makes is if he already knows the push
back before anyone says anything same with flexing about his own life or career he could brag but doesn't because he's already thinking about what people could come at him for sounding air again
Ryan is playing social awareness chess out here I've always wondered if he is actively thinking
about this or knows it about himself well clearly if I'm that self aware or is it actually built up from people tearing apart every possible take love the pod girlfriend's Kyle's number one fan you just a dress here and shit like that good one and done yeah you talked about I don't know you was on or off air was it's like yeah we've banked I can't remember where it was but this was like in the last 48 hours 24 hours you were talking about this okay I'll do two parts on this
obviously okay part one is the social media has made all of us to talk for a living different and I would argue at times force all right because what you're doing is I watch a game I think about the game and then I immediately know the 10 different things that people will say and unfortunately and it's a habit that I told myself that I'll break but I have not broken the habit is that it's like just make your fucking point man just make the point all right so
“I think the social media part of this where you just know that that's what people their desires are”
is there any possible way somebody got something wrong or left something out let me get my fucking two cents in because whoever's doing that constantly every single day I actually kind of like feel bad for it all right so that is something that is very common with all of us that talk for a living there is a shift once we all started paying attention to social media where you started building up defenses before you actually built up the offense of whatever you wanted your
point to be if that makes any sense I would say the second part though is kind of who I've always
been so maybe it's amplified by social media but I always felt like if I were going to present this argument I hate this is how I feel because I know I get criticized for this I'm going to present the opposing argument to try to present it acknowledge it not because of the social media part
“of it just because I think like a natural debate that would be something that you would want”
of the pair for so I like saying hey this is how I feel but it could also be this this this or this because there are very few things as I've aged that I feel like our as definitive is we want them to be unfortunately with this job you're supposed to be incredibly definitive which is maybe why I'm more of like a taste than I am the home run that I think people in programming would want like if I went and tried out right now somewhere they might be like a case get a deep voice
we're giving some Saturdays but they would rather me come out and go hey um you know actually I can Caleb Wilson is going to be more to the NBA than women y'all I could ever dream of programming people like fucking give this guy a show I would be like well I I can't do that because I don't believe it and it's absurd and there's no chance we can possibly be true but if I were leaning that way I'd say hey I think Caleb and I don't think this but like hey I think Caleb Wilson
like you know there's some things here that are so special like I could see this but then I would have to kind of dismantle what would be an absurd out there position that almost no one else would ever have because I just think it's disingenuous to not even acknowledge what what the opposite side of the argument could be so you know times when I've I've heard or seen someone say like you know in the monologues with your too long you know I'm trying to get better at it but I I know how like
that's the other thing is you can just kind of just you could destroy anything you want to say like somebody says something and just go oh is that you really feel is that the real reason and it just sounds good and it's just like you can't really defend against it but I don't know
I would never want to not acknowledge a counter argument to the argument that I'm making but I
Generally do end up closing on the point but maybe it's just not as in your f...
or pushed on you in a way where I'm unmoving because I feel like that's a very closed off way to think even if it's better for doing this job and to add to that unlike the bragging thing I mean this I don't and somebody's gonna know this is true but I I've had a really good run but I'm I'm less impressive myself than you could ever imagine okay so there's a lot of things that I don't know if I'll ever get to do them or not this has been fun and and I have a great
living and I have a really good life and all that kind of stuff but yeah I think sports podcasting on the life option chart you know like this is good I've got nothing to complain about but I'm not like I don't you know I'm basically a fucking movie critic for sports which I would rather be
yeah there's a world where you're writing the best DJ and Jamaica right I mean that never happened
I'm probably top five if that's up no I don't think I want to be a DJ although fuck you see go to these things that are awesome the work hour seem pretty thick hours yeah but you got to make a decision you know like dip low it was very clear he was like I'm gonna get running and some fitness stuff like I can't I can't keep this going anymore I'm not saying that I want to be a DJ or wish I were a pro athlete or all that kind of shit because like whenever
I mean that'd be ridiculous to sit there and dwell in those kinds of things but I would rather have have done something in a creative way that maybe stands out a little bit
“more than this and that's that's the truth so that's why I don't think I'm very confident I”
haven't even go but I don't think I'm like this shit day to day because the show does well to your to the point about just like having to set up every argument I do think it isn't knowing because I feel like the audience and I don't I'm not mean like to criticize the audience but like there's a lot of stuff out there not our audience that means some audience to come but like
there are the audience has never been never felt more confident in arguing something that they
probably have seen or read less about like in this is sports this is politics is everything like you can watch 90 seconds of an hour long interview taking totally out of context if someone's saying something and forming an entire opinion about what that person is and what they stand for and then you listen to the entire thing in context and you're like and I know out of context is like all right yeah like some people uses a cop out but like a lot of times I think context does matter
and so it's it's very easy to listen to somebody say something in a clip and be like oh that's wrong here's what's wrong this is stupid and just pick the entire thing apart that's very easy to do everyone does that but to to to to to do an 10 minute segment on your own where you're having to
basically take account for those people say something interesting be kind of funny like that's a
really hard thing to do like I struggle with it I don't even like doing it like I remember deep in my toe into like the content thing and the stuff that I do with scale like I just didn't feel comfortable with like saying something every day I like saying something when I have
“something to say but like that's why it's if you're if you're doing a show if you're like”
Ryan or Dan Patrick or Kyle heard like we can make fun of some of those guys but like that's a hard job you're going to make mistakes you're going to say dumb shit you're going to say stuff that's wrong and for some reason like we we don't let anyone just like be wrong they it has to be some bigger pictures thing about how dumb they are how seriously they take themselves and like I'm just like can we just all collectively kind of calm down and I get caught
up and do it too like I'll watch a clip or read something out of context and be like that look at this idiot and then like you kind of get put back in your place later when you realize that like oh this is the bigger thing of what they were saying or actually that's not who that that's not what they are that's not what they're about so I don't like have a solution for I just think it's really hard to be like a content person in today's day and age because
everyone wants to tell you how stupid you are all the time because it's easy
“every single day and you have to figure out a way to get through that you're going to drive yourself crazy”
you know well one thing I put my hand up here for guys that think I'm stupid I know we're not getting back into the timecoats thing here just I'm not gonna explain what I'm not gonna I'm not gonna re-explain with dynamically add insertion is but I've just been guessing now I take whatever time it is and my little pro tools file and I throw a 30 to 45 seconds ahead of it I like that now I'm doing like five second intervals and zero but I don't know what ads are going to
be randomly put in there sometimes like 30 seconds sometimes they're longer than that so if you're frustrated that you have to click around a little bit on the shows that have the DAI ads you can look up what that means I'm now just I'm guessing a little bit further ahead but you know it's going to be what it's going to be there's really no even if I know what they are one day they will change they have the next day and it will be wrong so we wish it was easier yeah I'm not exactly I'm not
Quite as much of a fool as you think I am I am now giving it nicer numbers I ...
it to end at a five or a zero so I think it just looks better in the description but yeah you're
“going to have to click around a little bit sorry about that I had a buddy that used to press like”
92 on the microwave and said a 90 I don't know what you're doing any goes just going to wear out
your zeros and five's man wow I'm going to talk about it yeah yeah yeah 20 seconds or two how
“about 19 yeah I never stopped thinking I would ruin my 30 years that's just a guy who's brain”
works different that's those are the guys we should be you know putting in the space program
who knows what we're missing but I'm not having those kind of brains I have OCD that would
“fuck my damn I can't like the volume always has to be even number 60 seconds 257 like it's”
64 I'll over I'll overheat something just to get it done if it's on an even number I don't just like I got a lot of finish well that's just there you guys what I know I have a seat there's like a little like you guys could live together yeah all right that'll do it for Friday feedback thanks to everyone on the show Ryerson show Arster Sports [BLANK_AUDIO]
