I need everybody to wake up today because a lot not a lot happening, but Excuse me, I will say Richard Caripass you got to give it to him right Johan called it on the move plus yesterday with you He has been trying and trying try this guy's a good rider is one the Olympics he's one a zero He deserved the win. I'm happy for him today I thought that was really the only man that's not true that we're really too exciting things in today's stage that his performance was I got to give it to him

Caripass is a beast. He's a beast. Yeah, and every year we see the same thing in the third week of the two to France with Caripass These are class acts and he deserved that win more than anyone today And I don't think he's done yet. There's George the same when we were watching he gets on a roll now And real calculated too, you saw yesterday clearly he couldn't have been in that final move as well Let's probably hang him back just for today the team controlled it from kilometer zero just for him to go up on that first category climb

And he just pulled it off. I was really impressive when really missed the move. Yeah, it was to reach the start And that's not easy then when you bridge up and everyone knows that you're the favorite to win and he still wins It's funny isn't it because I started watching the race at half five this morning And as underwhelming as the second half of every stage has been The starts are actually the best the day because it is just on and just to make those moves

I don't think a lot of people if he's just switching on the tour watching that final 20 30 k you don't realize how hard it is to make the break And for Caripass to finish off the stage like that what it took for him this morning to make it into that move is quite something And the same time a day like today Caripass is looking at the profile he's won the zero to the Italian like one of the best climbers in the world He knows he can make the break on a day like today. He knows it's not it for sure. It's not a lucky break

You can break a TV attack break. It's one of those hard man breaks selective breaks and he went into today. I'm sure very confident that he'd make that break away

It has been hot guys are getting sick. Branden McNulty another one of looks like Adam Yates did recover today as we sort of Talked about yesterday branden McNulty I suspect that's just going around in the team he did not finish

But it's been tough so for yeah for these dudes in the third week a guy like him. It's it's easier for him to do that. Yeah, it's never easy, but still got to go do it

Still question at the end why was Red Bull pulling I still don't know why yeah, why was any of that happening? Yeah, I was Q 36.5 pulling I could see they probably scared of Caripass creeping ahead of them and not but see right now Caripass is he is 12 minutes no, he's yeah, like 13 minutes behind Tom Pitcock. Yeah, but they they know this one says guy gets on a roll and they can't sight

“I'm guessing that's why they were pulling but it was strange tactics and there was a couple interviews after the race where there's”

For saying UA is not looking as strong as they have this in the ring of the race like obviously branden McNulty gone Who knows if it was from the car accident two days ago or is getting with Adam Yates God Couple of the guys apparently didn't look great, but they'll tour on tired of course to look at yeah, I think for for Red Bull You know, it's a lot easier for them to set a pace like that when they're riding to nullify the attacks because UA ain't gonna ride because don't have the numbers And then it's easier to ride a tempo like that than the all back off and people start firing up the road. I want to save I want to save the that I want to go there on that conversation

Here in the here in a sec because I am just I'm just sort of concerned and I have questions about what we just watched, right? We are three days from the finish. Yeah, I'm going to go with muds Patterson and the disappointment yesterday in his interview. He was very straight talking yesterday Very honest and to go up a cap one climb today and make the break and do what he did that was quite a ride

Like I mentioned a couple of times he was in the break way he had you a not wanted to chase it down or the tactics were different from you. He probably would have won those stages as well But what a fighter just kept believing the team the whole team was behind them and I thought it was exciting I mean, you know, he came to that final climb with some of the best climbers in the world and just kind of double attack them

First one was just kind of like a a test attack. I believe and then looked over and said seeing the dosious work had to go

Three kind of three point five could go Caripass was great, but I'm going with Patterson. I mean, they've very started on a cap one climb and I had a strategy for a team in this race said last night No way you can make it in it. No way And some of the best climbers in the race can't get in that move and Patterson goes up there and even though his little track team is chasing as hard as they can to keep him out of that break way He's up there, Paul and his heart as he can. It was unbelievable. I couldn't it was I was speechless. It's crazy. Yeah, yeah

Yeah, I'm in terms of I mean, look, it's a toss up for me In terms of you know, in terms of difficulty, I think it was a lot harder for Matt's Patterson to do that than it was for Richard Caripass to do what he did. They were both exceptional But for a guy like that, I mean and without what it's all on the line like we were kicking around before the show does this Sure up his green jersey. I mean in theory yes, but things can happen. You could get a flat. I mean Phillips and could get some intermediate points that you just get

No points right that starts to get close with who knows what happens on those final circuits in Paris But this is I mean you and I'm with you like his interview at at At the finish yesterday he was completely defeated and deflated and he admitted on in the interview that hey, I think this comes down to Paris And he must have gone to sleep last night or before he went to sleep said no actually Let's try this. That's so hard for he's a big guy

Exceptional. I'm happy for him. I'm happy. I mean, and I know I'm not a big fan of that team

What the fuck is going on in this fight is anybody attacking Bogotaur is anybody trying to get unseat Remco for second is what's going on with the white jersey They're just chilling like I just I don't think that's that exciting. I don't know who I don't And and and here's it and this is where we were all all rolled up Um, as we're watching you know that this look we love this event right and and we've all been there. We've all done this This event somehow has to figure out a way to make it exciting

It not become newsworthy because of a 2 a.m. Doping control. And I said it to you, Bradley. Like I love sports. I watch a lot of sports. I read ESPN. I go you know that's ESPN dot com. I'm like what does it take for the Twitter friends to get on the cover of ESPN dot com or the cover of the athletic. And what is it, right? If two guys got off their bikes and started fist fighting in the middle of a stage that would make the cover. Uh, if somebody had a really bad accident, that would make the cover and a 2 a.m. control.

Hey, the cover that this is not how the event ought to be known. And so it's just yeah. And it's all this been, you know, it's all that's been in the news the last four or five days since that happened. You know, everything that comes up on my social media feed is someone commenting on this 2 a.m. Don't control. And obviously more information has come out about it now. And the only person I've seen who's talked any sense about it is the head of the CBA Adam Hanson who did a great interview with someone yesterday.

Um, who spoke a lot of a lot of sense in that and was actually very defensive of the riders, but it's um, he also said they didn't have to do the two.

So yeah, it's, um, it's overshadowed this third week of the race. I think.

Well, back to your point about maybe not being as exciting for the GC paddle today. I mean, a lot of us or I'm not, but I'm waking up early watching the stars and sponsors. I mean, the ship is absolutely ridiculous at the start. I mean, the, these guys are going so hard to make. Green jersey points to make the breakaways the first two hours or over the top part. And I think it's actually nullifying a lot of the action at the end. Like they're getting closer to the finish. They're like, we had to go so hard to figure out.

And, and that's completely shaping the way these finals are going right now. I think too many summit finishes too, because who in the right mind was the tech bogotcher. He's just going to whack you. And I'll see if bogotcher first, he's pretty happy with that. Rimco's second. That's like winning for Rimco, he's not going to do anything.

“That's how it was there. He's pumped six hours. It's four. He's only one with any grievance, but he's only 20 seconds back. So he's thinking I'll wait for up to us. One of you so is is a miles away on the moon. He's nine and a half minutes back.”

She almost is sixty's five. Like, no, there's no incentive for it. But they're really happy with fifteen six months. Yeah, it's a really great result for them. The third, I mean, and the, and the potential. Well, like I said, I think there were just all the head there at the end. I mean, the first two hours. Yeah, you said that. You mentioned that speculation as we were watching.

When they finally went to that group, he kidding me. This guy was peddling one like it. He might have been wearing black shorts.

By the way, I think he should always wear black shorts.

Yeah, this whole thing of like getting all dressed up and all the different things that matching this and that, that's stupid. We're black, any marks where it's black shorts. Fact, just do that. So I don't, I don't read anything into that. All I read into or saw, he was noodling. There's nothing wrong with daddy, poker char. But what, what is going to happen is to how they're going to go all in.

Daddy's won the tour deference pretty much. He's going to go all in for the tours third place or second place. Well, he's going to try to set the record on afterwards. Well, he's going to try to set the records and go over another stage one. I mean, that's the question.

And that's going to make it, I think. I believe. I mean, if he wants to set the record/destroy the record, he can do that. Yeah. Very easily.

That's, which would explain why he doesn't. He's not trying really in these stages. I hope he does. Yeah. I hope he does.

He's going to fly up that thing, rip the pavement right off it. Honestly, at this point, I go for it, man. Well, Red Bull leads him out. It's perfectly done. So, but I just think this may be ought to be and should be.

And we'll be the last time we talk about this two AM thing. As it has just been too much, right?

It never should have happened.

Let me just be really clear. That never should have happened. And it should never happen in the future. This is the hardest morning event in the world. No other sport would tolerate it.

for British people, certainly in the summer, and lots of people come to Lucian to watch the sort of fronts. In all that kind of chaos riding up these climbs and the effort you're making,

Yeah, I really just depends too if it's a final climb. If you're in the first group, if you're in the Gropetto, like there's all different scenarios when you're going through these people. If you're in the Gropetto, it could be a lot more fun. Like you said, you see people, you know.

But when you're going forward, like it doesn't really even affect you. You hear the noise, but you're so focused that you're not letting any of that stuff mess up your focus.

Yeah, there's always something that makes you laugh as well.

You know, some guy who run next to you dressed as a gentleman. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I get that question a lot. I mean, I think for the, for the lay person that watches the race,

they watch and they think, wow, that must be scary or,

You have this sort of subtle just knowing that they're going to get out of the way, right? Also to keep in mind, especially when it's a small group, there are cars right behind. So the people aren't stupid, they see, they see the writers, but they also see the cars and the motos. They know that they have to get out of the way, but it's, it's very special. I mean, I think most guys really look forward to it.

It's what makes house bold unique because, yeah, it's the crowd. If you took the crowds away, we wouldn't have a race, would we? No, no. And you see it. I mean, you see this and for whatever reason, I guess, just to kind of make things a little cleaner and a little safer towards the finish.

Two or three kilometers from the summit or from the top of the climb. They start barricading the road. And then you see, I mean, you're going from what looks like a million people to 50 people because nobody wants to be behind the barriers. They want to be on the road, touching the riders and yelling in their face. But the second, they put those barriers up, which sort of flies in the face of what you just said that the people don't want to be there.

And you're, and you're, and you're a heyday where you ever, did you ever have fear?

“I think we didn't sometimes, one year or two years, you had the security, right?”

I mean, there was, yeah, there was there was a couple of years there that were a little, but I never, you didn't worry about it like in the race.

You wouldn't think about it. No, no. No, I was given out to us. That was 2004, out to us. A lot of going on.

That was the year trying to break a record. But it was also an interesting time globally, politically, geopolitically, right? 2004, we had just invaded Iraq. It was wildly unpopular in France and mainland Europe. It was, it was unpopular all over the world.

I had a very close relationship with President Bush. People knew that. That was well, publicized. I just assumed, I was riding around the country. But we were riding around the country.

In a jersey that said, the United States, postal service. I mean, you just kind of keep adding them up. Plus I wasn't doing myself any favors to endure myself to the public.

“And that, that, out to us, time trial, that was, that I've never had an experience like that where the state department gets involved.”

And says, do you really want to do this? That's a waste of time. I said, then they say, the threats are credible. Yeah. Do you really want to go out there?

Of course I'm going out there. There was no doubt in my mind. I said, where? I'm going to go start my warm-up now, because I'm going out there. I'll be fine.

But yeah. And I was. The US was not as popular as it is now. In Europe. Didn't Joe hadn't had someone in the country.

I didn't want to get to that part. There were people stationed on the corner. But I just didn't think about it. All right. Bring that days.

And then it was so nice to, uh, was nice to catch BASO, because I really liked him. But I thought, by at least I'm with somebody who I know really likes me. He's not good with this guy. All these other people have not so sure. That can feel every two.

She was nice, but was not interested. But her driver was a big fan of ours. And her driver slid me the number. So I got the number that started texting her. She's like, what?

And the app had a number. There's just two thousand three folks. Nobody's sliding in any of the others. There's a note. And she wrote by saying, I'm not interested.

But on the need that note was a number. And in different color in from the driver, he gave me the number. Obviously. So I started texting her. And here we are.
